Absolutely horrible company. We have been waiting to have propane delivered for two weeks! We still have not had the propane delivered after two weeks and now the tank is almost empty, below 5%. Every time we call we are promised that it will be delivered the next day before 8pm. We have made sure someone is home as now a safety test is also required. This is beyond unacceptable and quite frankly dangerous. We are freezing and still no propane. Also the customer service is horrible. Stay away from this company! Beyond awful. The customer service is Kafka-esque. We are selling our home and need a change service date for the buyer. They came and shut the propane off a week prematurely and say it is IMPOSSIBLE to turn the tank back on after they issued their final bill. This was THEIR mistake! They outsource the service calls overseas, those poor people. There is no one local to speak with. The holds are interminable. I guess they just get sick of unhappy customers, so they put you on hold or disconnect you. Billing is one area, service is another. They act like these things are not related. "Oh I'm sorry, that's a service issue." YOU TOLD ME TO CALL THIS NUMBER. THERE IS ONLY ONE NUMBER. It's beyond maddening. If you have any other propane options, go with a competitor. Even one star is too good for Amerigas. We are on a scheduled fill so that our tanks are always "topped up" and never empty. Amerigas can monitor the tank level online. But they missed our last fill, rescheduled, and then missed it again, and now we are EMPTY, and it is less than 20F outside. For DAYS we have been calling them. We have no hot water, no heat, no cooking. My indoor plants have died, my kids are freezing, and when we call, we are either 1)on the list for delivery, 2) upgraded to urgent delivery, 3) upgraded to emergency delivery or 4) due to some computer glitch no longer on the delivery schedule. It makes no difference, we aren't getting propane in any of these situations. But we still call, multiple times a day, and get to talk to a call center person who promises things that don't ever happen. Please get your propane from anywhere else! read more

I wish I could leave zero stars. Given the cold, we used more propane than normal. We ran out Monday morning and called for emergency fill. They said they get out and I stayed home so they could access. At the end of the day, I called their useless offshore call center, and they said they would come today latest....within a 24 hour window. Today, I called since I hadn't heard, and they said they'd try to deliver by Wednesday. Our house is cold. It's snowing. We have no hot water. And Amerigas could care less. read more

Frederick, MD: This should be negative stars. It's been 25 days since I scheduled tank fill (even though I'm on auto-fill.....which didn't happen) and I still have NO delivery. I've called the cust serv line THREE times, which is a minimum wait time of 13-25mins before anyone picks up the call and is farmed out to another country. They have no way of escalating anything or actually providing you with service. My tank is completely empty.....no stove to prepare meals for my family and I took time off of work to be home for the service that was "supposed" to be scheduled TWICE and no one ever showed up. Now I'm told someone will be out FIVE days? Seriously? Please look elsewhere for your gas and propane needs. read more

Ordered a refill two weeks ago and they did not show in the estimated week long window. Called and they put me for the emergency delivery which would be in 24 hours, since we have no propane/heat at this point. A day later and no show so I called back. Apparently they have major delivery issues. The regular delivery schedule is backed up a month and the emergency is two weeks. The customer service representative moved me up the queue so it would only be a week. Would have been nice if they were honest with me from the start. To me and the rest of the world 24hours is 24hours. I have an 82 year old mother in law and a 5 year old, so I have to try to get an emergency delivery from someone else. Don't use their services unless you need it in the spring, and if you do put in your order now (January). read more

The absolute worst customer service that I've ever experienced. I am on auto delivery and my tank went down to 10%. I called to let them know and they said that they would come within 3 day. We have now been out of propane for 2 days and still have not delivered. I called 10-15 times over a three day period and was told multiple times that they would come "tomorrow". Tomorrow never comes for Amerigas. I filed a complaint and they service was escalated to emergency. The only way to get them to deliver is to call multiple times a day and continue to ask for a manager. I will not be using them in the future. read more

Not only are their prices high, we ran out of gas on one of the coldest nights of the year after they failed to make a delivery for over 10 weeks. Writing from Johnsville, MD - we are Amerigas customers (not for long) and on auto delivery. Woke up this morning to no heat. Never in my wildest dreams did we think we had run out of gas. Well, that is what happened. I started calling at 6:38AM and called for 12 hours straight. At 6:30pm, we were deliberately disconnected two separate times. They would not transfer us to a supervisor. The customer service agents were rude, condescending, and unwilling to yield from their tortuous script. Bottom line.....we now have to wait 24 hours to get the gas we should have had via auto-delivery. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING. II put in an expedited request for gas delivery 10 days ago and have yet to see a truck. Keep in mind, I'm on automatic delivery. Customer service is literally non-existent as nobody answers the phone or responds to an email. I've been trying to contact them for days now and the phone just has hold music with the message that someone will be with me shortly.... one time I even waited 50 minutes on hold with no answer. My emails have gone unanswered as well. Amerigas charges double what other local competitors charge for the gas, charge much more for the tank rental fee than competitors, and are unwilling to match prices. I have been a customer for over 20 years. I have NEVER been treated so badly as this past week. I am on automatic delivery and checked when I got to 32% full. On 2/3/21 my account showed "pending delivery". When no delivery appeared I called on Friday 2/12/21 and was told "you're actually scheduled for tomorrow". Saturday came and I called at 4:30pm to inquire and was told "they only work until 5pm so you'll be scheduled for Monday". Monday I called at 07:30 and was informed I was scheduled. NO delivery again. I called again and was told "I've escalated your delivery and it should be by tomorrow. Guess what...Tuesday...no delivery again. Was told "I'll have the Frederick district manager , Mr Horton call you". No call, no delivery. Called again today 0815 AM and was told "we've got 5 trucks delivering in your area but I don't see you on their schedule". If I run out of gas they can come take their tank away after 20 years. Currently at 22% and calling for 6-9" of snow tomorrow. Good luck. read more

I understand if you heat your home with propane that you might want to be on autodelivery. In this case, it is just for an ambient fireplace. They put us on auto delivery and proceeded to deliver propane filling the tank at the highest cost of the season .We did not request auto delivery! read more

I'm a "will call" customer and called in to report a suspicious smell near my outside tank. The customer service rep quickly outlined precautions to take and then dispatched a technician to investigate. The technician (Jason) arrived within an hour and 15 minutes. He was very courteous, clearly explained the potential causes of the smell (and how I could turn off the gas in the future, if needed), and performed a leak test. (Fortunately, no major issue was found.) I was extremely pleased with AmeriGas's responsiveness on this call, especially given that I'm not a regular/frequent customer. (The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that I did get some conflicting information from the customer service rep about how to turn off the gas as a precaution -- I was told to rotate the handle in one direction and it should have been the other.) read more

We have never written a bad review on any company until now so it must be bad. We cannot come up with one positive attribute about this company that we have had to endure service (or total lack of) through the last few years after purchasing our local gas company. We have been disputing an Amerigas bill for months based on a propane delivery that service was cancelled on January 10, 2022, days before the surprise delivery. The delivery had been "Pending" since November 18, 2021. The cancellation was acknowledged by Amerigas. We had already contracted another vendor to replace Amerigas, because of their dismal service, but when the tank was filled the new vendor could not place their tank due to the proximity of the tank location and the weight when filled. It was the middle of winter and a primary heat source. We had no choice but to use the gas. We were told we would not be billed for it. Yet Amerigas has billed us for their error. We have tried in vain, for months, to reach our District Manager, Gerald Williams, or anyone with authority, to resolve this issue. We paid the bill today to avoid any further late fees that are assessed and the damage to our credit rating. We would be more than happy to participate in a class action lawsuit against this atrocious "company". read more

Amerigas is a terrible gas supplier. They keep changing their rules about delivery and pricing. They had a 400 gal min per year now they are changing it to min 800 gal per year or they impose a steep fee on you for not getting enough propane. They change the agreements to suit their own profits. Just tried calling to track down the status of my 3-5 calls last week and the phone drops you after about 4-6 minutes on hold. They over fill the 1,000 gal tank (Max is 80% of 800 gals) for expansion but recently overfill it then when you don't buy more than 400 gals over the 40% or 400 gal mark you pay a couple of hundred dollars since you did not get a 400 gal fill up. Now it is 800 gals and the only way I could use that much is to help with Global warming and open my windows in the winter. One person is looking at downgrading me to a 500 gal tank and I have to dig out the old tank. Call another rep and they will do that work. No one seems to know. It would cost me last year $1,800 to buy my tank and then another person tells me it is approx $750 to buy the tank and go elsewhere. Homeowners Insurance clobbers you for hundreds of $$$ if you own tank due to liability for leak. No more Amerigas if I can find a way around their rule changes and schemes. read more

When questioning why we were charged a late charge for not paying a bill I had never received, I was told it was for tank rental as we didnt meet the minimum usage. I called and said could they please waive it for a loyal customer. I was not only told no, but was lectured. We are in our 70's and have to be frugal. THE worst customer service I've come across in a long time. HORRIBLE Constantly rude over the phone, or flat out never available. Don't return calls. Nickel and dime you for "leak checks", because they "care about your safety". Yeah right. Rates are through the roof and they're not straight forward with their pre-buy plans when the rates are a bit less (still higher than their competition). If you don't do your research on their poorly designed website, you'll find they're purposefully charging you the higher, non-monthly plan rates. I'm a new customer and should have seen the signs when they were charging me $80 just for a "leak check" just for being a new customer who happened to buy a home where there was a leased tank out back. Forget all the money I paid for a private home inspection that found nothing wrong with the gas lines. "It's policy". The guy who came out to conduct the leak check was nice enough - he even offered to adjust my stove top when I complained the burners were way too hot. Come to find out months later, the little burner in the back goes out and leaks gas when you put it on low. It ran for 4 hours one night when we finally discovered the source of the strange smell. I haven't been able to use that burner since and when I finally called to complain about it (it was a few weeks later), there was never an offer to hurry and come out to check. It was just a note they were going to take down on my account. Uh, can someone come out and fix this ASAP? Then they berate me and ask me, the customer, the victim, why I waited so long to report the issue. And then they want to charge me another $60+ to send a tech out to fix it. They don't care about safety, they just want their money! They bragged that they offer payment plans, but when I needed my tank filled again before I paid up the remaining balance, they said they couldn't include that in the payment plan. I can't do any other plans until end of May either. wtf?! And even then, the rate is $1 more than other places. When they let my tank get to 0, and I frantically scheduled a delivery late night online, their rates shot up and I could only do 100 gal. When I waited over 5 business days to get the delivery and called to complain, a very rude customer service rep came on and said that there was a minimum tank delivery of 200 gal. I'm looking at my order online. It clearly says 100. How is that possible? So they were going to force me to pay for 200 gallons when they finally got here?? Then, when she found out I was at zero, no sympathy, just another mandatory $50 leak check again. These people! I cancelled my delivery, and I'm making them take their tank away even though, again, they're charging me $50 more than it takes to have another company bring me one of theirs. They're not getting any more of my money. read more

Having been their customer for over 20 yrs, we were very disappointed to find that 2 other gas companies in the local area charge $1.50 to $2.50 per gallon LESS than Amerigas. Upon calling Amerigas, they were not interested in price matching or working with us to receive a better rate. They are very polite & friendly in the office & so are the drivers, hence the 2 stars. 0 stars for not caring about long time customers. This is one of the worst companies I have ever tried to deal with. I already have a propane tank on the premises hooked up to a gas fireplace. (we just purchased this home) I called to get a refill of propane. It would cost nearly $600 to get it checked out and filled and the tank rental, they were charging $4.33 a gallon because we only have it hooked up to a fireplace? I asked them to come and get it. That was over three weeks ago. Called back today to see if they are planning picking it up. (I have a new tank coming Thursday, thought 3 weeks would be enough time for them to pick it up) Surprisingly got a call back from Brittney, (someone needs to let her know that when she says stuff under her breath I can understand it) Come to find out they were supposed to pick it up in June, but couldn't find the house???? My propane has run out twice this winter and we are on auto fill. The office is difficult to get ahold of and they shut the phones down on the weekends so if you have an emergency you have to try a different location. Total pain. It is hard to be forgiving when you are freezing. This branch needs to tighten up. When I have gotten ahold of someone they are willing to do what is needed but it is extremely frustrating to be put in these situations. read more

They constantly make huge mistakes in billing, delivery, and in just about everything they do. I have not had a single interaction that has actually gone smoothly. My interactions with their staff have shown them to be incompetent and rude.
