Poor management when questioned. I had an issue about whether 800 gallons was actually delivered to my home. I have a 1,000 gallon propane tank -- when I got to about 150 to 175 gallons, I called for a refill. When I received the refill, they refilled to 800 gallons (which is typical -- 80% total). They gave me a bill for exactly 800 gallons delivered. I questioned the invoice because I knew I called in when there was no less than 150 gallons, which means if I had 150 and they put 800 in that I'd have 950 total. They said they put in 800 and my tank must have been completely at zero and that my gauge must be wrong. I check my gauge every week and know it was not at zero or even close to it. My email was initially ignored, then it was clearly misread when it was responded to and not sent to management. I had to call to get a manager (or I think they connected me to a dispatcher), who tried to placate me to get me off the phone with the understanding he would follow up in a couple of ways, which he never did. When I finally followed up a few weeks later by email, the assistant contacted the the manager (or dispatcher) who told her to pass along that the driver who made the delivery was contacted and said that there were in fact 800 gallons delivered and everything seemed ok at the time of delivery. My emails to Valley Energy and my discussions were clear in that I was not seeking not to pay for gas I did not receive. I was interested in finding out if my gauge was wrong to have it fixed, or to learn if the gas truck that did deliver to my home reported the wrong amount as being delivered (they track all amounts all day) -- I indicated perhaps at the end of the day there may have been an extra 200 gallons on the truck. In any event, they handled it wrong and they lost a customer. I was with them four years and will be no longer. This experience leaves me with a taste of mismanagement, possible dishonesty and siphoned gas in my mouth. I'm not suggesting Valley Energy actually billed for gas they didn't provide to me, but the way they handled this incident, it gives me great pause to consider whether it is just bad customer service. I've lost my faith in them.

It turns out that the electrodes were slightly misaligned, causing a small accumulation of oil within my unit. Unfortunately to get to this resolution, it took a 1-star experience. A very unhelpful technician (1-star) came and went in less than 10 minutes, telling me he couldn't smell the odor so I'd "need a second opinion". I called back to SMO for further assistance. Tyrisha Monroe assisted me (5-stars!). Each time I called in, I spoke with Tyrisha. She was extremely courteous, understanding, and helpful. She immediately scheduled a more experienced technician to my case. Within a few hours, Reggie was at my door (5-stars++!). Reginald Morton has serviced our furnace in the past. He is extremely professional, wise in his trade, and a genuinely nice man whom I gladly welcome into my home. Reggie worked hard, trouble shot the issue, explained everything to me, then made sure the entire space was nice and clean before he left. I have always been impressed with Reggie's quality of work and kind demeanor. After today's experience, I requested that he be tagged as my preferred technician (I'm not sure if that's a thing, but I certainly hope it is!) --as long as all you Yelp readers don't start requesting him to the point that he is not available when I need him. ;D Well done SMO, you have two extremely professional employees who care about their work. They deserve your acknowledgement. In this day of so many people being more interested in themselves than their job, this was refreshing.

I was gone for about an hour and 20 minutes, driving about 5 miles. When I returned to U-Haul, I waited for about 10 minutes for someone to check the van in. They sent me away before checking the vehicle. To my surprise, I was charged for 37.1 miles although I only drove the van about 5 miles and only had it out for a bit over an hour. Either the attendant recorded the odometer number incorrectly or the van has a problem with its accuracy. A rental that was supposed to cost about $35 cost me over $90. I called the store upon seeing the receipt, and I was told that a manager would be in touch. That never happened. I called a second time and got nowhere because I had not taken pictures of the dashboard. While I accept that I should have taken lots of photos, with the high volume in Washington, DC on a Saturday afternoon, it would be logistically impossible to move even a few things, drive 37.1 miles, refill the van's fuel tank, and return the vehicle in 80 minutes. Given U-Haul's unwillingness to entertain the possibility that either someone in the office made a mistake or that there's an issue with the van, I will not return.

During this time, they allegednly sent the bill to collections. They then attempted to hold delivery of Uboxes hostage until I paid them... another $30. Why? For the gas I put in the tank, apparently. If I don't deliver in 24 hours, the bill for the containers rolls over, and it's another $250. We just had a whole house generator installed, and this is the company that we used to set up and fill the propane tanks that will power the generator. The initial delivery of the tanks was coordinated by the generator installation company, however, from the day of tank delivery up until now everything has been fantastic. Dennis, the delivery driver who brought, installed, and filled the tanks up was very helpful. He answered all of my questions and took great care to install the tanks in a manner that was safe and in the location that I needed. When dealing with the staff that has handled everything else when I've called, I've been incredibly impressed. I initially spoke to Lynn, who just like Dennis, patiently answered all of my numerous questions. She explained the process of getting us set up with our own account and what to expect for the next steps in the process. Now that everything is up and running, I had the pleasure of speaking to Mary yesterday. Again, Mary was very helpful, professional, but also very friendly and personable. I love supporting locally owned small businesses and I'm so glad this is the company that the generator installation company works with because I could not have picked a better company to service my tanks! If you're looking for a propane company, definitely give them a call. Their prices are reasonable, the service is great, and I have been very pleased already.
