Pro: The price is good. Con: The customer service is terrible. I paid for my gas six days ago and still have not received it. On the fifth day, I called to check on the delivery and waited over an hour just to speak with a representative. Vicki was polite, but she wasn't able to offer any real help. She told me the scheduler would contact me, but I never received a call. Now we are facing what is being called the winter storm of the century, and my family is completely out of gas--not because we didn't pay, but because Thompson Gas failed to deliver it in a timely manner. This situation is both ridiculous and unacceptable. Based on my experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend Thompson Gas to anyone. read more

Thompson gas are over charging people and has a lot of hidden fees. They have been charging me more than $4.00 per gallon. When I inquired about my price, they adjusted it to a little over $3.00 per gallon not counting all the hidden fees. I call them about a mistake that was made on my account. I had a bill of about $244.00. The have taken $600 from my account, and everytime I called about refunding my money (it's been a week now) they have given me the run around. The first time I spoke to them, they told me 2 to 3 business days to return my money to my account. The second time 3 to 5 business days. The third time they said it would take up to 7 business days. Today they are saying that it takes up to 10 days To say that I am very disappointed in Thompson gas would be an understatement. They have treated me very bad and as of today, my money has yet to be returned to my bank account. read more

Shut off my son's propane remotely and it was only a couple hundred owed, he realized and made payment, they are going to take up to 48 hours to turn back on. He has small kids and it is during the coldest time. In addition to other issues where they install the valve wrong and gas leaked out or when the valve was bad but they didnt have the part on their truck and would just put it off a day or two until they could find time to come back. read more

Generally service is good.But this winter an 8 day delivery wait when you have elderly in the house is disappointing. You can do better.

Thompson Gas has been a terrible experience. They tell you to call when your tank is at 30%, but even after taking your money, they take so long to deliver that your tank runs out before they show up. When you call to ask about your delivery, they just give excuse after excuse. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but this is unacceptable. This is the third time my gas has run out due to their negligence. Taking your money and failing to deliver on time feels shady. I'm officially switching to another company. read more

6/3/2025: Q from the Manassas District was EXCEPTIONAL in his work and customer service. He inspected our propane tank, helped us with relighting our hot water heater and educated us more on our gas lines. He also provided us with educational material related to propane. this company is not trustworthy . They installed electronic metes for us and the billing skyrocketed. $950 / month . When asked to investigate the meters i was asked to pay $150 service fee first . They also charge $10 fee per month for reading the meter which does not make sense . Washington Gas never charged such a fee and is much reliable . The owner has monopoly and we don't have a choice of choosing another provider in our neighborhood. read more

Stacy/Staci changed my account information without my authorisation, knowledge, or consent. I called to be promised a callback from the regional director and have it undone. It wasn't. I emailed to be promised in writing a callback from a manager. ThompsonGas said they called and left a voicemail. My phone records clearly show they didn't. ThompsonGas illegally withdrew money without my authorisation, knowledge, or consent. ThompsonGas changed the my account without my authorisation, knowledge, or consent after reaching agreement with Matthew Sandy last year. ThompsonGas has not reached out in response. read more

Thompson Gas has to be one of the most unscrupulous businesses in the area. They discriminate against people in the same neighborhood. They make offers and then resend them in the same day. They never air on the side of the customer and truly don't seem to care about their reputation. They certainly don't care about customers. Two different prices five houses away because one group is a large group and refuses to let the entire neighborhood in. The one group is quite large and clearly has a lot of purchasing power and support of Thompson Gas. We have had an unfortunate UGLY experience w TG. A neighbor started a co-op to get better prices and has discriminated against us/13 other homeowners - from joining his co-op and TG won't extend similar price to us even though they already offered it to us. Now they are rescinding the offer with some lame excuse but we know that it's most probably on account of that unsavory neighbor threatening them. I've spoken to other propane companies and they're very surprised at the newest price offered, commenting that it's extremely high. Shout out to the amazing Sean customer service rep and Kelly Litwinczuk. THANK YOU !!! TODAY i had the MOST AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE with Thompson gas. There was an issue with our gas monitor / app they just installed last month during a fill up. For some reason the monitor didn't automatically alert to schedule a refil when the level fell below 30%. I called out of frustration and spoke with Sean who was very polite, patient, and extremely helpful. Because of the error in digital monitoring set up , i was almost out of gas at 14%. Per the app it should automatically scheduled to refill once it's below 30%. So i assumed the tank would be refilled within the week, but it wasn't. So i called office in a panic to find out what the issue was etc. I was frustrated that I couldn't use the spa because we were almost empty without a warning or auto refil. (We are use to using our spa every evening since the née monitoring app) Sean spent time trying to fix the glitch of auto refil issue as well as attempted to RUSH a truck out ASAP to fill us up. He told me possibly same day but for sure next day. I barely hung up the phone with him and our gas was FILLED ! I was in shock. Elated ! Long story short....Sean told Kelly L of the error/issue and somehow Kelly was able to get a hold of a truck in my area ASAP. I so appreciate Sean & Kelly caring enough to fix my issue ASAP. I usually dread calling utility companies with issues , especially gas companies. So i was prepared to be disappointed and frustrated . They deserve zero stars but that's not allowed. This place has the absolute worst customer service I've ever dealt with. They have the highest price for propane in the area then hit you with all kinds of service charges and hidden fees. They never said anything at all to me about being on an auto fill plan where they would come out and check the tank. I have never dealt with having to order gas before so had no idea and just assumed (my bad I guess) that they were keeping an eye on the level of gas. If it gets below 20% then they require you to have a leak check done. Well, I ran out of gas entirely, with out knowing I had. I called them and after sitting on hold for 10 minutes before anyone even picked up the phone, they wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount for the leak check, and then never gave me a time/date they were going to come out. They said they would call back and never did. I ended up calling around and finding a different company. (Shawley's) Every other company I called, on the initial phone call they all suggested being on the auto fill plan. Shawley's has no hidden fees, they were very friendly, straight forward, and I never was put on hold for more than a minute while being transferred to a different employee. I called up Thompson Gas and cancelled my service with them and told them to come pick up the tank. Instead, they came out and filled the tank and locked it because they had not preformed the leak check because no one was home when they came out, and left me a bill. They NEVER called me or told me they were coming or that they had been there, nor were they even supposed to come and fill the tank, just take it away. The poor installer from Shawley's had to move the full tank out of the way to install their tank. The ugly Thompson Gas tank is STILL sitting my yard over a month later. They told us they would be out to pick it up on Sept 27th. Never showed up, we finally contacted them and were told that the "driver was sick" and that we were now scheduled for pick up on Oct 18th. But of course AGAIN, no one told us this. No phone call, no email, NO COMMUNICATION AT ALL. This company is TERRIBLE. Avoid them at all costs. read more

When I moved to my new house I call thompson gas to provide me with there gas service the lady on the phone told me is better to go with a badget plan for $120 a month, that I did after 8month of service thompson gas send me a notice that my badget plan had been change from $120 a month to $350 A month. I tried to call the thompson gas office many time no one answered the phone just they put me on hold for a long time and I send emails to Thompson gas no one responded to my emails. Three mont later they send me a notice that my badget plan change again to $550 a month with $3356 balance due for overused heat that I been paying them every month $150 for the heat . Finally now the past three days they turned off my gas at home and no one in my neighborhood can provide the service for me bcz the only thompson gas in that neighborhood. read more

I had such a great experience with Thompson Gas I just wanted to share. Last week I called and scheduled for a delivery of propane. We added a propane tank to our house for just cooking. Everyone I spoke to was extremely polite and kind. We scheduled my delivery for Friday 8/7/2020 and then my propane tank that we had ordered (not from Thompson Gas but purchased ourselves) did not show up. I had to call and ask that we reschedule it. Well my propane tank ended up getting delivered really early Friday morning so my husband hooked it up real quick. I called Thompson Gas to ask if they could put us back on the schedule and they put us back for that same day! It typically takes 3-5 business days to get on the schedule but they were so awesome and fit us in. When their delivery guy Tony came, he was unable to fill the tank because it was too close to our AC unit. That was a bummer but we moved it over the weekend and I called back on Monday to reschedule the delivery once again. Again they put me on for that same day! Eric came today and filled the tank and did a leak test. It was hot out but he was extremely nice hope he becomes our regular delivery guy as he was just so great. I appreciate you all getting me hooked up so quickly. I have it setup to auto fill when needed and appreciate you all already. Thank you, thank you, thank you! read more

PLEASE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!! I am not someone who writes reviews on yelp, especially negative ones. However, I feel I need to do what I can to prevent someone from conducting business with such an awful company. If I could, I would give this company zero stars. They have the highest rates in the area, an excessive amount of hidden fees, and the absolute WORST customer service. We got hit with a large charge from them at the end of last year without our knowledge. We were never notified that we had an outstanding balance with them - no electronic/paper document or phone call AT ALL. One morning I wake up and realize it is extremely cold in our house - it's the middle of winter and in my area it gets really cold. When I checked the thermostat, I stated it was 52 degrees in our house. I attempt to turn the heat on and noticed it would not turn on. I initially thought it was something with our thermostat until my husband noticed our water would not get warm either. Realizing our gas was turned off and having NO idea why, I contacted Thompson Gas. They stated we were delinquent on our account and we would need to pay a large amount of money to get another delivery. I asked why I was never notified about this, they stated they had been in contact with us several times. This was an outright lie. The last transcript they had on file was me calling and inquiring on why our monthly budget plan was so high. They did NOT inform us of this large balance existing - let alone being delinquent. I asked why we never received documentation explaining this and the manager blew me off. I asked several other times during the conversation why we never received written notification of this and the manager continued to deflect and not answer my question. When I explained to the manager we do not have the money to pay everything at once because this was so unexpected, I requested they raise our monthly budget plan to pay this off so we could get our heat turned back on. I explained I wouldn't be able to make our mortgage payment and pay the amount in full because it was so high. I was told by the "manager" if we wanted our gas turned back on we would need to pay the full amount and nothing else could be done. As if that were not bad enough, they have done it again. Only this time, the manager - who the customer service woman stated [on the phone] had the authority to wave the fees and be compassionate - not only didn't wave the fees, he refused to speak with me. He made the customer service rep. relay the information he should have been relaying. I have never witnessed a company show such little empathy and compassion. They do not see you as a person, they see you as someone who puts money in their pockets. While I understand you have a business to run, there is a way to do it and still give your customers great service. This isn't just poor customer service, not notifying us of the large amount due and it being "delinquent" is just unethical and poor business management. If AT ALL preventable, PLEASE do NOT bring your business to Thompson Gas!!!!!! read more
