For a couple of decades I have had propane delivered which through corporate acquisitions became Amerigas out of Fredericksburg many years ago. On 9/3/21 inadvertently and mistakenly $6805.69 was transferred to my account at Amerigas which was intended for another vendor. I recognized the error on 9/7/21 and called. The representative confirmed the error and said that the amount would be refunded to me by check within 10-14 days. No check came. I followed up on 10/6, 11/15 and 12/15 and 20. Always the answer was the same. O 12/17/21 I sent an email stating my claim. To date I have not received my money. I hope that I can find an new supplier, for this is totally unsatisfactory. read more

My husband and I are building a home and needed a propane tank for our fireplace to be installed prior to the inspection. I called Amerigas and got an appointment for the site survey and they said they would call me back after the survey to set up the appointment for installation. I was not at the property but told them they could meet with the builder on site for any problems. I called the customer service number the day after the appointment to follow up since I hadn't heard from them to find out they never came. The person from customer service had me on hold for ten minutes trying to figure out why no one showed up and promised a site survey within 48-72 hours. I declined and now see this company has consistent 1 star reviews. We've now had to push back our inspection and closing because of their lack of follow through. read more

DO NOT USE THIS PROVIDER!!! Go to ANDERSON PROPANE instead! This company is bad all around...from bad customer service, absurdly high rates and the unreliable delivery and services. They will fee you to death. For example, 4 years ago we started at $1.99 per gallon...we are now being charged $4.35 per gallon - if we do not pay an extra $119.00 for their "Lock In Fee." Instead, we will now use Anderson Propane who charges $1.99 per gallon, great customer service and offers discounts to military and law enforcement personnel. Go to Anderson Propane instead! I bought my tank from Amerigas in Jan 2020. Will called for propane in November 2020. Delivery man called me and told me that they are going to LOCK my tank until they perform a leak check at my expense. I'm told him that it was my tank and just turn the valve off. Nope he said we're locking the tank. It is have prerogative to hire anyone I choose to do a leak check and that have no right to lock My tank. Corks they are just plain crooks! read more

If I could give AmeriGas Propane no stars, I would. They have ripped me off for years and when I finally decided to get rid of them and go with a reputable Propane Company, they charged me $80 to "restock" the 75% left in my tank that I PAID FOR. I have no doubt that they will top it off and re-sell the propane I paid for. They charge an astronomical price for gas and you can't depend on them to deliver gas and the gas has already been paid for. I would rather freeze to death than have AmeriGas Propane for my propane needs. Stay very, very far away!!!! You can do better. Only use them if you are desperate!!!! read more

If I could give them less than one star I would. They are slow to answer the phone, their customer service is terrible, you can never get a manager or supervisor on the phone I literally sat on hold this morning for 45 minutes and still no answer. I had a fireplace safety inspection done last year and they never completed the inspection because something had to be repaired. They told me to get it fixed and then call back and schedule another one and I would not be charged. I fixed the fireplace, called back and passed inspections... Surprise, Surprise, I was charged another 200.00 fee and when I called to contest they said they would elevate it and it would be credited back to my account. It was not credited, I was charged an additional late charge of 36 dollars. They call me regularly about paying and when I state the situation, they again take a dispute tell me someone will call me within 24 to 48 hours to discuss and shocking.. nobody calls except to ask me for payment and I ask AGAIN for a supervisor I am placed on hold and nobody ever comes on the line. They have no issue calling me again about payment; I again explain and placed on hold and we repeat the process. If you can use ANYONE except AMERIGAS I would highly recommend it. Their website is trash and sometimes does not allow you to pay towards your account, but they won't hesitate to charge you tons of late fees without giving you the ability to actually pay on your accounts. We have had a terrible experience with Amerigas and would like to warn others to stay away. We were quoted $69.99 for a tank inspection (we own our own tank). The man arrived, was friendly and helpful, except at first he couldn't be sure whether we had a leak or not. After checking a second time, he decided we did not have a leak but said someone would have to return to measure the distance from the tank to the vent (it should be 10 feet) as he had forgotten a tape measure. I offered him the use of one of our 3 retractable 25-foot tape measures in our garage to use, however he declined. I repeated my offer and request that he do the measurement 2 more times and each time he declined saying the company would send someone else. He reported that someone would come within the next week to fill our tank. We then got a bill for $250. My understanding was that bill was for the inspection and to fill the tank with propane. Now 4 weeks later we still have not had our tank filled and they claim the $250 charge is only for the man to come out to do the inspection - the inspection we were quoted $69.99 for. After over 60 minutes on Hold and multiple conversations with different service agents - they cannot explain what the additional $181 is for or why our tank has not been serviced yet. Please find a different company - this company is misleading and has poor customer service. read more

I suspected a potential propane leak in my house. I was concerned for my family's wellbeing and called AmeriGas. They came out to my house and found no leak. Within two days, they billed me $242 for this visit. I called AmeriGas to inquiry why the cost was so high and they explained the breakdown of the costs. AmeriGas took advantage of my vulnerable situation and made me feel victimized by their pricing schedule. They should feel ashamed of their business practices. read more

**I had to make an account just to post this! These guys are crooks. Avoid at all costs. Use Blossman Gas instead. Bought a house in King George that had Amerigas service. Shortly thereafter was contacted by a rather rude woman from Americas who stated that: 1. They needed to perform a 'mandatory' safety inspection. 2. It would be performed on Friday (it was Wednesday when she called). 3. I needed to be present at the time of the inspection so that the technician could brief me on "emergency procedures" in case of a gas leak. When I protested that this was completely unnecessary (I'm pretty sure I can find the valve on the propane tank blindfolded and underwater) she repeated that it was mandatory. When I further protested that it was unnecessary and furthermore inappropriate I was assured that there was no charge for this service which seemed to make sense as it was apparently "mandatory". So I took a day off work and waited for the technician who was supposed to 1. Call first, and 2. Arrive between 9 and 10am. He did neither of these things and arrived around 4:30pm, topped off the propane tank and left. Two weeks later I received a bill in the mail for $174.59 for some (expletive removed) services that they ALLEGEDLY performed. Bottom Line Amerigas: YOU CANNOT MAKE SOMETHING 'MANDATORY' AND THEN CHARGE PEOPLE FOR IT! Even if Amerigas was to offer me a full refund and a year of free service I will still switch to Blossman Gas as soon as humanly possible. read more

We had AmeriGas for 18 years. After calling around several suppliers, discovered they charge anywhere from $1-$2/gallon more; but of course, you're not allowed to get it from anyone else. And when you have a 1000 gallon tank, it really adds up. Finally bit the bullet and bought our own tank. The cost will pay for itself with 3 fill ups. So, when we called them to pick up their tank they said there was a $59 charge to pick it up. I told them I was NOT paying for them to pick up their own equipment and that if they didn't pick it up, I would start charging them a storage fee and after 3 months would get rid of it myself. They picked it up 2 weeks later, but are sending me bills for the $59 + late fees & interest. Now, for the last two weeks, they call my house everyday and hang up. When I redialed the number and spoke to Darcy, she denied it at first but eventually said that I would get automatic calls everyday til the bill was paid. I guess harassment is their new standard of operation. Stay away from this company! If you have them now, it's worth the expense to get your own tank. If you're planning on building a house, get your own tank. Terrible company and worse customer service. read more

I bought a house and the seller donated his fuel to me. There is an external tank connected to the fireplace They told him all I needed to do was setup service and as long as I used some of the fuel over the course of the year I would not be charged a rental fee. I called to setup service and they wanted $185.00 safety inspection before they established service. I told them just come get it. I didn't plan on refilling it anyways just use the fuel that was in the tank but it was a huge tank. If the service is currently active why to you need to setup a safety inspection for service? $185.00 I don't think so !!! read more

Long story short...after the recent purchase of my home and going back and forth with Amerigas and their bullying tactics, I have purchased my own propane tank in which I can contact whomever I want to fill my tank. I am not bound to Amerigas and their bullying tactics....."you have to purchase propane from us and you must sign a lease agreement...."the tank in the yard of the home you recently purchaed belongs to Amerigas....and you must buy propane from us". "you can buy the tank from us if you like (its been there since 2002) but its our tank". Please provide me the serial number and proof this is your tank....Didnt happen and its not going to happen and you will never get your tank back which is on my property. My plan is to make the general public aware of the new state law which enables the propane industry to bully us around. Do not get yourself locked into renting or leasing propane tanks.... they will charge fees to come check your tank, fees if you let it run out, they will fill up your tank and charge fees that are more than the few gallons they put in your tank because you didnt put your account on a will call only. They will lock you into their prices and you will not have a choice. Suck it up and buy your tank so you will have a choice and not be controlled by the propane companies. Research your options and do keep in mind they own smaller propane companies in the area so dont be fooled by the name. Investigate and do your homework...... I am still waiting on Amerigas to provide me proof the 500 gallon tank in my yard is the property of Amerigas.... havent heard back from them. I have sent several emails to their corporate office and I still have heard nothing....why? Because they just dont care. I have heat now ..... bought a 100 gallon tank from Dan's Propane. They came out last Sunday morning with a tank filled with propane and installed it in less than an hour. They are AWESOME, HONEST and I just felt comfortable from the moment I called them on the phone. If your gut speaks to you, there is a reason why. Follow the gut instincts.....think people....dont get into the lease trap with Amerigas or any propane company. Buy the tank and price shop... help keep them honest. read more

AmeriGas is the absolute WORST propane company in the area! BEWARE and go elsewhere! They charged us almost double retail cost of propane due to our "little usage" for the 9 years I've been a customer with this horrible company. They then forced us to buy the tank on our property so we could go elsewhere and buy propane from a company that actually charges customers a reasonable retail rate. Call any other company in the area and their safety inspection fee and retail rate will be considerably less than AmeriGas. AmeriGas has TERRIBLE business practices as they were unable to produce proof of a contract ever being signed nor any reasonable justification for charging almost double the retail propane rate. If you want HORRIBLE service call this company. Prices SKY high and service Rock bottom. Been a customer for only 1 year, and it seems like 20..20 BAD years. My 81 year old mother ( a recent heart surgery patient) lives alone and ran out of gas. She accepted full responsibility and called Amerigas - at 8am. She asked for an emergency delivery and they said to fill the tank and an emergency call would be $1600.00 My Mom said ok, because she felt it was her fault. At 3pm a man called and said he would "get to her tomorrow or the next day." She (according to my grandson) pleaded with the man and told him she lived alone and was 81 years old and had no heat. He said (per my 15 year old grandson she was on speaker phone), "I said I will be out maybe tomorrow"- very loud and rude-and abruptly HUNG UP ON MY MOM- the customer paying his paycheck. My mom then retired to the bedroom, and my grandson heard her crying. When I heard of this I called the office and spoke to an Operations Manager, that accepted ZERO responsibility and had less compassion then a Poison Dart Frog. He just kept saying my Mom was on a "will call" and therefore it can take 7-10 days. I was warned by the previous owner of the home that Americas was a horrible company...I could never imagine that they could be this bad. I called ANDERSON propane and they offered to come out ASAP. He asked what he could do to help, this was AFTER hours and I could not believe the COMPASSION,,,WOW. read more

We sold our home in Stafford, VA. I contacted Amerigas to have them cut off service, read the tank and refund us for the balance of the fuel in the tank. I gave them 7 days notice. After waiting two weeks for the refund check, which never came, I contacted Amerigas only to find out the buyer of our house asked them to change over the account 3 weeks after he settled and moved into the house. We was tight on money (yet we gave him $5,000 at closing and he got $879 back at closing do his closing didn't cost him a penny. At any rate, Amerigas agreed and gave him a free ride for the gas, at our expense. They tried to tell me they have 30 days from the day I call to have the gas shut off to comply. Funny, they didn't tell me that when I first called. I read the tank on the day we closed and it was a tad over 70%, which on a 500 gallon tank is more than 350 gallons. I just received a notice from they stating they were going to refund me for the 340 gallons in the tank the day they finally got out there to read it., which was 10 days later than I requested. Plus, they charged me $19.95 for a line protection program I didn't request because we sold the house. It is now 24 days since we sold the house and still no refund check. They demand their money be paid on time or you pay late fees but when they owe you money you have to wait and they get an interest free loan. They are liars, crooks, and thieves. I was going to use Amerigas at our new house but not after this. I'm contacting the chairman of the board, the pres/vice pres, and anyone else I can to let them know their customer service and business ethics stink to say the least. read more

Worst company I have ever dealt with. They charge you an astronomical rate for gas. I called and complained that the price seemed high for the normal price of propane, they then asked what neighborhood I lived in, and said "oh, you have a cheaper neighborhood rate." This knocked my bill down over $500, but they would have over charged me that amount if I had not called about their mistake. They also fill up your propane tank whenever they want without any notification they are coming. If you do not want them to fill your tank, there is no way to refuse service! They come, fill up your tank (usually while you are at work) and expect you to pay $1000's of dollars within a few weeks. I cant imagine the situation some find themselves in who cannot afford this! They delivered to my home, of which I did not want any additional propane, so i called and asked them to come remove it. The receptionist informed me that there would be at least $150 fee for that, IF they could do it at all. She called later after talking with a manager and said they were too busy to come and remove the gas and I was stuck with $1200 worth of product I don't want and cant use. Absolutely crazy... avoid this company at ALL cost or you will pay dearly. read more
