As other users have said, Amerigas is good at price gouging their customers. Their gas is by far the most expensive (up to $1 plus more per gallon than competitors), their fees are outrageous (pick up fees, drop off fees, rental fees, late fees, etc etc etc), and the constant billing errors make this company a hassle to deal with. Do yourself a favor and go with one of the locally owned competitors with much better pricing and service, and support a local company instead of an out of state corporate behemoth that couldn't care less about their customers. read more

Is this business a joke or a drug front????? Because there's no way that a real business could be so unprofessional. Our monthly bill has been an average of about $12 a month over the last year and some how we get a bill for $893.13. We called once and they told us they put in an "action" and someone would get back to us within 48 hrs. Surprise surprise we didn't hear from anyone! Called again and they told us that an action was never filed.... Another 3 days go by and still nothing. Called again and no one seems to want to help us or put us in touch with someone who can. After being hung up on and talked over, we were told we have to wait another week. This is crazy!!! It's beyond me how this place is still in business. Simply, the worst company ever. They can't get their charging department together. Charge wrong amounts, charge on wrong dates, charge highest rates for lowest service quality possible. I made an experiment with this company to order propane. This was in April. Called the San Marcos office and asked how much do they charge for a gallon. Got a quote of $3 per gallon. Called them 10 minutes later and told them I have only 5% propane left in my tank and immediately was given $3.5 a gallon quote. These guys will most definitely take an advantage of you when you are in need! read more

We had nothing but issues with this company from the moment we started. There was an AmeriGas tank on the vacation rental property we remodeled used to heat the pool, spa, and fire pit line we had run. They almost never showed up for refill appointments, and regardless of our many calls stressing the importance that the tank never get below 40% we ran into multiple angry guests not being able to use the spa or fire pit. This is our business so it's extremely frustrating when a company causes us to disappoint customers and when we call they cannot make it out for days to rectify the situation. At one point we were put in a "auto refill program" which was supposed to make sure it never ran dry again. It did. We were paying an average of $1,300 per month and they consistently showed no remorse for no-shows or inability to keep up with the refill program. The last straw was during a requested refill (at 30%) they noticed a slight leak around the level gauge and called to say they would be replacing the tank later that day or the next. Ok, we let the guest know the pool heating may be off for a short time but shouldn't disturb their stay. The next evening the guests called to say nothing is working...The same tank was sitting there, with leak warning tag, and empty. A few angry calls later we learned they didn't intend to replace it for another 3 WEEKS and wont refill a leaking tank. A supervisor came by and we sternly told him how important it is that there be propane...he agreed to send someone out THAT DAY to fill to 60%. Never happened, we called and were informed someone will be out "tomorrow" to fill....ya right. Fool me once shame on you- fool me 100 times shame on me!! This complete disregard for customers has cost us $600 to date in refunded pool heating fees and apology gift baskets (that still don't make up for a ruined vacation) and most importantly lost us return customers in a very competitive market. Who knows how much the leaking propane cost us... Needless to say we switched to pacific coast propane- they installed a new 500 gallon tank the next morning, gave us a commercial rate which is 65% CHEAPER, and installed electronic monitoring. AmeriGas now want to charge us for the 10% which is left in the tank that we couldn't use due to the tank being unleveled (showed 4% before moved) and shutoff for leak issues....we'll retain a lawyer before they see another cent from us. We are SO HAPPY to be done with the constant headache that is Amerigas & I highly recommend you avoid them at all costs! read more

If I could give them a zero star I would. Everything you read is true, this company has zero customer service or accountability. My home installation required three workers and a 500 gallon tank. They came out four times, yes four times with two guys and a small tank. Even when I called the night before to verify that there would be three guys and they promised me they would, only two guys showed up. Call around- you can find way better and way cheaper. I have been using Amerigas for a little more than 2 years now and I've finally had it with them. Every time I need gas I have to call other companies to get current propane prices. Then I have to get that in writ ting. After this is done I call Amerigas where I start by sending the (way cheaper) quote from (ANY) other company. Then I have to haggle with the woman who answers the phone and who can't come down more than .5-.10 cents. Next I have to get on the phone with her supervisor (which always takes days) and haggle with her. Recently I had to haggle to get my tank rental back down from $75 to $50 (like other companies.) They also charge a very high interest rate if it took me a few months to pay off the bill. Last straw-3 weeks ago I needed gas so I started calling around, PDS was $2.95, Pacific Coast Propane was $2.85 and Amerigas quoted me $3.99!!!!! More than a dollar more per gallon!!! I have now switched to PCP who has the cheapest prices, 1st year free tank, very polite and friendly people and no finance charges! To top it all off-I have been calling and leaving messages to pick up the tank (that's been sitting in my driveway for 2 weeks) and no one answers at San Marcos office.....could it be that all their customers have left and they've gone out of business? I need that tank out of my driveway. Now, after reading the post above I sure hope Amerigas doesn't try to charge me to pick up their tank, UGH!! I'll post again if they do. read more

You want HOW MUCH ($3.83) when everyone else is charging a dollar + less per gallon? That's really, really not OK, Amerigas. I've been a customer with Amerigas for 5+ years, and although they are pretty good/prompt with delivery, I have had to haggle and bargain and offer to sell my bone marrow to try and get a fair, consistent price with these people. Apparently they have moved up to kidneys because they wouldn't even bother to negotiate this time. The customer service crew needs a group hug, or perhaps an apology from their mothers for being raised as the ignored/barely tolerated child. "This is the way it is and I don't care" is their bold and unfeeling motto, and I'm sure that is emblazoned on a banner in the call center so that they won't ever forget it and possibly be nice during a call. They couldn't care less what you need or want, or if they lose your long-term business. I lease my tank, too, and they charge about $20 more per year than the competition. Sorry, Amerigas- I'm out. I have not been able to speak to a human being in a week. Local office not taking calls and hangs up, and the main Amerigas line has us wait on hold 90 minutes then hangs up. The one time I was able to speak to someone, they transferred me, I waited an hour, then it hung up. I've sent 3 emails through their website with no response. This is by far the most absurd customer service issue I have ever dealt with. This company actually believes that they can charge you, not provide the service charged for, and expect people to be happy. My goodness. We are terminating service. Tank has been removed and is waiting on our property for pickup. A termination letter will be mailed to our local office. After delivery of letter, if tank is not picked up within 18 days (per California Code, Civil Code - CIV § 1983), it will be assumed abandoned property. read more

BEWARE!!!! You will be charged much more than the going rate if you do not set your price by contract before your tank is filled. The difference is almost an additional 50%. Do not trust Amerigas to charge you a reasonable rate. You will also be charged additional fees with every fill that are not charged by all other companies. Amerigas charged me TWICE. I prepaid the day they delivered and thank goodness kept the receipt in an easy to reach spot. They also marked the tank as empty even though it was not. Hmmm, not really interested in paying for something twice. Later received a bill to pay. Called and told them I had paid, they said I owed, I told them I had the receipt and was very clear with all info. After insisting I knew I paid, which I did, they apologized and said they actually owed me money! They admitted they had charged me twice and it was their mistake. WELL, today I see the Amerigas guy drive up and he is here to tell me he is turning off service! Glad I was home. I showed him the receipt with his Amerigas employee's signature that I indeed paid everything on the day they came out. He called the office, they agreed that they did owe me money and would be calling. The drivers are very nice, so this review is not for them, it is for the person who is not doing their job in billing. Hope to receive an apology and refund in short order. read more

This may be the worst utility provider-ever. I was formerly attorney for several utility companies and now as a consumer of Amerigas, I can not understand their approach to safety or customer service. When you call the Amerigas contact number thy say customer service and safety are their top priorities--not true. You call and expect to get the office in San marcos but end talking to Charlotte, NC or Cleveland, Ohio. They cannot connect you to a live person to answer a question or respond to an emergency. Amerigas San marcos apparently does not exist. They have literally lied to us on several occasions and then defend the lies. Please choose any other provider. read more

Great rate, really friendly service, incredibly helpful and friendly to boot. Our nonprofit has used AmeriGas for a while at one location. When another company (rhymes with Keith Urban) started jacking rates up it was impacting our budget. I cntacted AmeriGas and not only did we get the lower rate we were already getting at location 1, but a lower rate for both. In addition, we had the install planned for the Friday of the Lilac fire, so it had to be postponed. Our rep stayed in contact and ensured we got the next available slot as soon as were cleared to return. The installation itself was quick, professional, neat and clean. And the over all service and communication has been incredible. Every dollar counts when you are a nonprofit serving the chronically ill. I'm glad AmeriGas understood that instead of squeezing every possible dollar from us like Keith Urban. read more

I have been overcharged, double charged, wrongly charged you name it. Too much to tell everything, but here is a sample. Charged for a regulator that was less then 2 years old. they couldn't find our account after being a customer for (at that time) 7 years. Illegally marked gas tank. Finally (after 5 orders and 7 years) swapped out the tank for a legally tagged one was then charged twice for the gas. cancelled service and still got tank rental charges. They wanted to charge me $130 to pick up the tank. I switched to Pro Flame have had great service and even help to deal with Amerigas. read more

Yelp needs a zero rating because that is what Amerigas in San Marcos, CA. is, zero customer service. They said they would be out between 1-2 pm on 12/14/15, made appointment on 12/10/15. Called them at 2pm and they said they had no record of my appointment. When I got upset they put me on hold and when they returned said their supervisor did remember my Thursday call so they would squeeze me in by 5 pm. I had to leave by 3:30 pm. Demanded to speak with manager, told they were all in a meeting (must be their standard response). I said I would call every 30 minutes to speak with a manager. 25 minutes later Operations Supervisor John called back. 3:20 pm technician arrived to get my heat working properly. There valve on the tank went out and now they want me to pay for it. I am fighting that so we shall see. read more

They charged me 65.90 to come pick up their own equipment after I canceled with them. I would give them 0 stars if I could. First, let me start by saying that the people I've worked with in the local office have been a pleasure. Unfortunately, everything is now funneled through a central office, and their support infrastructure has been a total mess with Covid. Multiple emails that have gone unanswered--to include a request for more propane through their website! Three phone calls, all of which required about half an hour on the phone to get a person. No help. A manager who said he would call back, and surprise! no callback. It's as though they're trying to run their customers off. While I've had pretty good service in the past, I would never recommend doing business with them now. They're a complete mess and unable to support their customers. I'm gone. read more

I've played all of their games, talking from one person to another, attempting to get a lower rate on each fill, etc., etc. The only good thing about the company is their drivers - they are very nice and accommodating. I'm not sure how these guys are still in business. My last bill came in at $430 for 56 gallons of gas. Propane price was $6.729 per gallon plus fees and taxes. I called 3 other companies and they are all at $3-$3.30 per gallon with no delivery fees plus free tanks and a free propane storage cage. I will never use them again. read more

Horrible...first, I am pretty sure they outsource to a phone company to handle calls. Could barely understand my lady on the phone. Second, they pressure you into work and come out even after you've asked them not to just to lock your propane tank and tell you your tank is leaking without doing any checks on anything. Very disappointed! They shut our gas completely off without verifying if there was even a leak, locked it and threatened to call the fire department. It was excessive...turned out our tank wasn't leaking it all and we had a leak in the backyard because the previous owners didn't shut off the fire pit all the way...completely separate gas line and it took half a turn to get the problem resolved. Worst of the worst consistently! If is a pity that the star rating system doesn't allow for zero stars, because Amerigas deserves it. These guys have been a pain for the past 14 years. Now I have finally had enough and moved on to another company. Pros- if their computer tracking system screws up, and you run out of propane - as has happened to me more than twice - they will come out pronto and fill your tank. Cons - everything else. Biggest is price. These guys charge almost 2 times what everyone else is charging. $4 + per gallon, vs $2+ a gallon. You can call them, and they will reduce the price to $3+ per gallon, but only on the most recent delivery. I asked them, "Why this haggling pricing system, why not just charge me a reasonable rate?" What is incredible, is the people at the San Marcos Amerigas office, including the manager, very patiently explained to me how that's just the way things work and imply that I am asking an incredibly stupid question. So after many calls to get my bill reduced from ridiculous to just over priced, I've had enough. I'm gone and will never look back. In addition to the cost of propane, they charge a couple of add on fees per delivery, and their tank rental price is higher than what I am now paying. I can't overstate how frustrating it is to try to talk to these people. Whenever I call them I feel like I'm in a bad SciFi movie talking New Speak. Lastly, communication within the local office is so screwed up they can barely get out of their own way. I tried to get my tank painted for months, and kept being told yeah sure, but it took over three months. It turns out that no one had told the person who's responsibility it was to paint the tank, that we wanted it painted. The most recent thing was they called me and said for various reasons they were going to change my tank, at no charge to me, I should call and set up an appointment. I called and we agreed to wait until the propane level dropped significantly, and I would then call them to schedule a specific date. Sounds good so far. The next day I got a call from a third person who had a computer generated prompt to call me and schedule an appointment to replace my tank. read more

What a deplorable company. We had them when we lived in Vista. I was a prepaid customer. However, on numerous occassions I would later recieve a bill for an outstanding amount in $.01 or $.10 not sure how I owed them when I prepaid the amount they gave before delivering. Delieveries were often late, and once even with paying the fee for expedieted delivery, it took over a week to deliver. Reported we were moving out of state, 7 months later received a phone call stating we owed them even more money that was due 4 months after we moved. Truly a disgusting company to work with. Just switched from Ferrellgas to Amerigas. Hope my luck is better with this company. The customer serice has been exceptioanl. Had a new tank delivered and installed. Abraham and John came out to install in the pouring rain. It took a few hours to install due to the conditions. They were very professioanl and respectful. My understanding of propane service these days, is you as a customer have to stay on top of how much gas is in your tank...if it gets low call. Don't let it run down below 20%. Worst customer service ever! I I requested service and was told the San Marcos location would call me back. I asked when that would be and she said " that's a trick question and I'll just have to wait till they call me"! When I didn't receive a call for three days I called them again and was told I would be contacted within 24 to 72 hours. no call. Called again, they said I should get service within 5 days. I explained I called the 17th and it's now the 23rd. "You will get a call in the next 24 hours" No call. Called again the next day requested to speak to a supervisor, after 47 minutes on the phone he told me he would expedite my request and receive a call that day or the next day for sure he promised. No call. I called again today and was told they wouldn't have anybody available to service me, not even next week. So he told me he would expedite it with an email. "That's what your supervisor told me and if he couldn't do it what do you think you could do?" Told them how lousy they are and will find a new company. Amerigas has over charged us multiple times. They have sent 2 bills each month and we have called them several time to get correct bill. They charged us double and put a wrong meter reading, which I called them to tell them to credit us. We finally cancelled their service and when the amerigas person came to unhook, did not close the valve. We paid for the gas in our line our bill until 5/28, which was when they came to take the tank. We smelled propane and when we called amerigas to tell them they didn't close the valve and asked them if this was their routine, they said, "Well I'm sure the company you go with will fix it all up." We had to close the valve and lost the gas that we had paid for. Horrible costumer service. We will be looking into having them investigated for criminal behavior. read more

Mostly happy with the install. It was in a difficult location. I offered help and hung around in case they needed it (they finally asked for it). When reversing the truck down my driveway, they hit my fence and broke a section. As a contractor, I know that it would have cost the company a lot to repair (new post, stucco patch, and paint). For me to perform the repair for a customer, I would have had to charge a more then what the final bill for the propane install would have cost. Plus, I will be removing the fence in the next year or two. I told them not to even report it to their supervisor. Being honest employees, they said that they had to. They triple checked with me that I was alright with the damage and did not require them getting someone out there to repair it. Amerigas, ended up not charging us for labor. I appreciate that. My only complaint would be in a lack of communication between employees as well as with the customer. read more

I am a 17 year resident of Hidden Meadows (North Escondido). For 8 years I used Surburan Propane as our propane supplier. In April of 2016 I noticed that we were being charged over $3 per gallon. I felt that that was a lot, so I started researching other companies, and received a quote from Ferrell Gas for $2.19/gallon off peak and $2.89/gallon on peak months. I contacted Surburan and asked if they could match it. They agreed since we had been a customer for so long. Little did I know that they only intended to give me that price for one bill. By the time I needed another fill, they were charging us almost $4 per gallon. I immediately contacted them, they informed me that the lower rate was a one time courtesy, even though all of our communications were in writing, and they never said that. Then they proceeded to tell me that I should have asked for the seasonal fixed rate...I was never told of a seasonal fixed rate...and the deception continued...I guess customer loyalty, their word, and commitment doesn't mean anything to this company! After several phone calls to many different propane companies in our area, I found the best deal around! Amerigas has a Hidden Meadows rate for all residents. They charge you $1.40 over their cost (i.e. their cost now is $.98/gallon so our cost right now is $2.38/gallon), and that will not change. Also their first fill rate is the cheapest around as well...$1.79/gallon. Most companies have their first fill rate at $1.89 - $2.15/gallon. With Amerigas the rate fluctuates in peak and off peak months (like all other companies), but with the HM rate it will be less than other companies in the area! This is probably the worst service company I have ever dealt with in my life. First, they charge well over 50% more than any other propane provider in the region. If you happen to notice it, and you call them, then you will get your bill adjusted, but otherwise you will be charged an exorbitant amount for your propane relative to the average rate in your area.. When I finally decided to terminate their service, they charged me $50 to come and pick up their tank but they graciously "waived" the $150 policy termination fee. There are far better companies to deal with in the area for propane service. Avoid this company like the plague read more
