    Styrian Salad
    Taylor C.

We dined at this restaurant to experience traditional Austrian food and ordered Braised Organic Beef Cheeks and Styrian Salad for our dinner. Each dish had multiple plant-based ingredients in addition to meat (good for our gut biome), and the taste can certainly be characterized as very good for the reasonable price.

    Pasta bolognese

We ate here one night for dinner and it was good. I ordered their lentil soup and it was delicious and comforting. I know this seems a little crazy but they did not have the goulash that I wanted so I ordered pasta bolognese. It was so good that I could have been in Italy. My husband had the pork schnitzel. He felt it's not as good as the veal schnitzel at other restaurants.

    'Roast beef' with potato wedges

Decided to check this place out for dinner while I was in Vienna. From where I was staying in Stephansplatz, I took the u-bahn and got off at the stop that Google maps said I should and walked the rest of the way to this place. Location-wise, it is kind of hidden but you'll recognize the outdoor courtyard area with all the plants. Make sure you ask clearly for the 'English' menu if you're a tourist like me. When I asked they came back with another menu in German and I was like 'uh...English menu?'. But the waiter apologized and came back with an English menu so it was all good! I ordered the Roast beef with potato wedges. FYI, I think roast beef translates to just steak because that's what it was. It was a seared steak with sauce on top. So if you order roast beef, don't expect the roast beef you get in America. The food was delicious and the ambiance was awesome. I could tell that this place has a lot of locals, actually, I think I was the only foreigner there. I tried my best to blend in. My only complaint is that the service is a bit slow but I hear that is typical in Austria so there is that.

Nice atmosphere, vegan soups :) many options for vegetarians. Very good service, really nice. The only con I have is the same one I have with all places in Vienna where there are two separate places smokers/non smokers. They are not really separated, the smoke travels easily two... three meters to the non smokers tables. I think it is a pity.

The Garden, perfect for hot summer days

Very nice for traditional Austrian food (with a modern twist) and good wine. They have outdoor seating in a nice port decorated with plants and cozy seating. Tip: If it's raining and you still want to sit outside, don't worry! They have a shield which covers the seiling in the port! Close to Museum Quartier and Mariahilferstrase.

    Viennese breakfast

Don't make my mistake. I think we were pretty much only two who stuck to the written menu. On menu, you will only find a couple of options for breakfast. We naturally ordered Viennese breakfast and Oriental one. It was so disappointing. They seem to come out of processed food canteen. Take a look at my photo... heartbreaking lol Please do ask for menu such as goulash, schnitzel and so on. They will accommodate you (we witnessed a couple next to us asking for other options than the menu since it only states three options). Good luck!

I was impressed by the location and the sittings of this typical Austrian restaurant. The ambiance in the backyard is so lovely, with small wooden tables, beautiful oriental parasols, trees and wine leaves around and above us! The waitresses kept smilling and were very attentive to us customers, so that we spent a nice and relaxing lunch in this beisl. The food isn't as extraordinary as the decor lol, but it remains some good and tasty Austrian food. A bit disappointed by the salad maybe, but thumbs up for the daily menu: the fish and its pumpkin sauce was simply delicious!

    Nice patio

Good food, good prices, and amazing courtyard that works in the winter as a Christmas market punsch and Gluhwien stop or a summer anytime relax with friends drop in. My experience was to avoid some rain but also get the patio feel. Success. Daily menu looks good, but I first tried a condon bleu from pig, along with a prosciutto/olive/baguette appetiser. Delicious! All in all a nice place in the spittelberg area. My only issue is it can get smokey. :/ Thus, I give it 4 stars.

The staff are so welcoming and nice, there s no English menu but they explained to m what to order, the outdoor area r really cozy and very chill prefect come during summer at evening even just have a drink. Lots ppl but no feels pressure! I order the beef, it's really heavy but good for a male. I enjoyed very much

With those thoughts in mind then I can only be thinking of the good old Cafe Rüdigerhof. This is one of the best chill spots in Vienna .... well actually maybe in all of Central Europe. When you think of Vienna ... and being in a cool-looking place with atmosphere .... and talking with friends ... and enjoying some tasty food and a good beer or wine ...just totally chilling - the Rüdigerhof is made to order. The Rüdigerhof has both an inviting interior and a super Schanigarten for warmer days & nights. The building it is located in is a Jugendstil landmark by the architect Oskar Marmorek. And then there's the food - a selection of tasty dishes from the classic Viennese Cookbook at very reasonable prices. I especially love to go there in the winter and get a warming Gulasch soup. There are rooms for smokers and non-smokers. The smoking room is the best because everyone stays late in this room and it has more of a buzz. It just feels more like a Viennese café. The non-smoking room is not bad - it's just smaller and not as cool. Anyway, I'm lucky that Café Rüdigerhof is so close to where I live. Everyone should have such a place in their neighborhood!

One thing my wife and daughter wanted to do in Vienna was to try the local cake, the Sachertorte…read more There are a few apparently famous venues for this (and a slew of other places too). Gerstner is a long-standing bakery with a few locations (including at the former summer palace). They had a shop relatively near our hotel, so we stopped in early during the trip. If you are facing the State Opera House, Gerstner's is on the right across the street. Note that there is also some as or more famous outlet for cakes behind the Opera House also, but they appeared to have a line when we walked by. At Gerstner's you enter at street level where they have a dessert counter with displays. You can get a slice to go here. However, if you want more of the full experience, you can go upstairs (they have an elevator as well). A wide curving staircase gets you to the rather small 2nd level (the first floor, in local parlance). There are some tables here, but it has the air of a bookstore coffee shop. We opted to continue up to the next floor. Here, there is a dark hallway where you approach the host stand. There was one couple ahead of us and they got seated quickly. I think they had a bar as well as dining, so they ask which you want. We just wanted dessert, so they walked us past the bar. This floor has high ceilings and palace-like decoration. The vibe is definitely 'special' but they don't charge extortionate rates for it, which was nice. We were shown to a small table in the main dining room. I think you could see part of the Opera House out of the open windows. Two of us got coffees and we all split a Sachertorte. We enjoyed it, but everyone agreed that it was a bit dry. Maybe the Viennese don't go for moist cakes. They do have other items on the menu and I think you can get a regular meal here (schnitzel, salads, etc.). However, we visited around 2:30 p.m. on a weekday, so we just wanted the cake. The bill was reasonable, and we all agreed that this was a worthwhile experience.
