My wife and I made a reservation the night before to dine here for dinner on a Sunday evening. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table by the window in the dining room with a view of the kitchen. An assistant server, setup us up with a bottle of water and a bread basket with butter and a yummy chive spread. Our server survived a mini barrage of questions by my wife before taking her order. We both asked for their Wiener schnitzel. My wife got the secret recipe potato salad while I got a salad with Viennese dressing. For drinks, my wife had a Vienna lager on tap and I went for a glass of Merlot. The schnitzel was crispy, light and delish. I enjoyed a little cranberry sauce with each bite. The serving size seemed perfect. The potato salad was incredible. We couldn't figure out the secret but perhaps using tarragon? My salad was enjoyable as well. I always struggle getting enough green vegetables while traveling so this helped. Service was great and we had no trouble with using English here.

Duck Liver Creme Brulee. SS Rating. Best thing I've had in Vienna, must try!! Insta/Beli/TikTok: @amei_eats

(Overall: B) - Plachutta is a famous chain in Vienna that specializes in traditional Viennese cuisine. Their menu offered a good balance of traditional and elevated fare, and a pleasant ambience to chat and vibe for a long period of time. (Beef Tartare: A) - This is a plentiful portion of tartare that has nice balance of flavor with the heat coming from that chili soothed by the ambundance of cream. (Duck Liver Creme Brulee: SS) - This was my favorite dish I had during my entire week long visit in Vienna. The duck liver is a lovely fatty upgrade to the traditional butter to pair with bread, and the cranberry jam was instrumental in adding contrast and acidity to help make the dish balanced. I loved that they elevated this dish by making it a creme brulee with that caramelized sugar crust, and microgreens to make it a high class dish. All this was only 10 euros! (Salmon: C) - Although it tastes reasonable, the heavy presence of the white sauce I feel seems to add flavor in a way that does not lift and brighten the flavor of the salmon in a carpaccio, and this setup may work better with a crispy skin salmon skewer. (Wiener Schnizel: A) - I was impressed by the tenderness of the veal, which paired well with their tartar-like sauce, and their horseradish-based sauce to add some flavor complexity. The intricate detail used to cut the lemon was also quite impressive as a way to highlight sophistocated technique. (Beef Offal: D) - This dish certainly does not gets its appeal from looking like a murder scene, but the offal is quite tender and pleasant to consume. I could not care for the dumplings as they are just a ball of flour. (Boiled Beef Soup: B) - This is a soup where you look forward not to the boiled beef but that luscious bone broth infused with bone marrow and those root vegetables for a hearty soup. I love the strength of the hearty broth to make a comforting dish. Food: +1 Presentation: E Price: E Atmosphere: +1 Service: E Menu: +1 Overall: +3 B Insta/Beli/TikTok: @amei_eats

Plachutta, known for its top-quality beef, has several locations in Vienna. We visited the one near the opera, which is clean and welcoming, though it can get quite busy, so reservations are recommended. The restaurant attracts both locals, especially businesspeople, and tourists, thanks in part to their long-standing ad campaign at the Viennese airport. We had the classics: Wiener Schnitzel (veal, the authentic version) with potato salad, which is beef stock-based and served lukewarm--not mayo-based like in Germany or the U.S. We also had the Tafelspitz (various cuts of cooked beef) with traditional sides like spinach, apple sauce, sauce tartare, and Groeschti (hashbrowns). The soup in which the beef was cooked will be served afterwards, and it was outstanding! Service was good initially, but our waiter disappeared after we finished our mains, and we had to chase someone down to get assistance. Despite that, the prices are fair, and the food quality is consistently excellent. Highly recommended for tourists seeking an authentic Viennese dining experience!

From start to finish this was an ultimate winner. Fabulous shaded outdoor seating, impeccable linens, service that is to die for. And that's before the food. Ordered the schnitzel & potato salad. All you need. And thensome. Vienna at it's finest

I came to Plachuttas Gastaus Zur Oper for dinner with my boyfriend on a Saturday at 7pm. We didn't have a reservation but they found us a seat immediately inside of the restaurant (they have both outdoor and indoor dining). Our server was super nice and brought us table bread-- around 5 different types of rolls--to begin with along with butter and some nice chive/mustard aioli which I think is included in the table service cover charge according to their website. These breads were all delicious and very unique, some flaky and fluffy, others more like a traditional pretzel roll etc. Really helped because we were starving when we got there. For food we ordered: -Wiener Schnitzel: when people say this is a tourist trap, they probably mean you will definitely be trapped here in Vienna because you will not want to leave after eating this ... truly the best schnitzel I have had in my life. Incredibly thin and tender pieces of veal that are only lightly battered and which come with lemon and this cranberry sauce which adds a nice sweet/ tangy contrast to the dish. The schnitzel was really flavorful and not oily at all-- for someone with really bad intolerance to fried food, this didn't make me feel a thing-- and was a perfect, satisfying portion. - Potato salad (Erdäpfelsalat): they recommend that you pair the schnitzel with this salad and I really second this! Not like the usual American potato salad, this is lighter, and has nice flavors of vinegar and mustard. Super flavorful and feels a lot healthier. Also the mustard/vinegar mix goes really well with the schnitzel, it's insane. Not a huge fan of potatoes but these were exceptional. - Cucumber salad (Rahmgurkensalat): we ordered this and were super happy with the decision since this was a very creamy but light/refreshing dish that perfectly contrasted the veal and potatoes....almost served as a very pleasant palate cleanser. It has really thin and fresh slices of cucumber with a very mild pickled flavor, some yogurt (or other creamy addition?), and dill. Spectacular :) TLDR The ambiance is very casual and relaxed. Service was really quick and kind. Food was out of this world. I am already looking forward to returning if I come back to Vienna.

This place is so good. Two entree is plenty for two adult and a 8 year old. We got the roast pork chop on sauerkraut and the Boiled Beef served with Soup. Plenty of great food for family of three. The beef was so tender and so was the pork. The sauerkraut was delicious! The service was very friendly to English speakers. We sat inside as there were smokers outside. The space was nice and clean. Great for a pre-opera dinner. The soup was delicious and savory. Was an unexpected good surprise!

At the recommendation of our concierge we stopped in for dinner. The setting, food, and staff were all amazing. We couldn't get over how accommodating and helpful everyone was. There was a delay/mixup with one of our meals and they brought out wine as an apology. Amazing service!

This restaurant is a must if you are in Vienna! Located in the heart of the city, they serve authentic Wiener Schnitzel with all outstanding sides. Our server made me feel welcome and were quick to bring out each course. There is indoor and outdoor seating available and they can accommodate small or large groups!

    Weiner schnitzel

Best Weiner Schnitzel hands down that we've had in Austria! The goulash here is my husband's favorite, the meat falls apart. We went a second time the night before we headed home because we couldn't get enough. Our servers were amazing and remembered what we had the time before and that we liked ice It has an ambiance where you can sit outside while you eat. *This was recommended to us by locals that considered themselves foodies

In the touristic/commercial area in Vienna. It is a huge place with indoor and outdoor seating. It was our first night in the city, it was late so we wanted to eat fast and nice. So it was. Our waiter was superfriendly and the food and wine were really good: roast beef with crispy fried onions + Tafelspitz.

Found this cozy spot a few blocks off the Stadtpark and figured I'd give it a shot. So glad I did. it was pretty packed when we got ther, we were able to get a high top table after just a few minutes wait. Ordered the beef tartare and schnitzel. Be forewarned, they don't skimp on the portions here. The tartare was delicious and came with a salad and about a half of stick of butter, which was interesting. Schnitzel was big enough to feed at least two people and left me feeling like I had finally experienced a real local meal. Wine was also great and made me wish I could have stayed there drinking it all night. But alas, I had an early flight to catch the next day...

Quite tight seating. Restrooms are not accessible by people with limited mobility. No baby changing stations. The food is okay. The schnitzel was fine and so was lamb. Okay to eat but not memorable. Caprese salad was tasty. In conclusion, if you are passing by and hungry, feel free to stop by. If you are looking for a memorable lunch/dinner experience, plan to visit a different establishment.

We showed up with my mom's little mobility scooter, and the bartender came out and helped me get it inside over the little step. They were very kind about helping us find somewhere to put it that it was out of the way. Atmosphere was lively, and I enjoyed the interior of the restaurant. It was much nicer than it looked from the outside! They had an ever dining area that was a little bit on the trendy side, and the lower dining area and bar was a bit more classy. Our server, Issa, was extremely kind and patient. My mom is not much of an adventurous eater, and she was being quite picky and asking a lot of questions and he never seemed bothered by it. He also listened to her explanation of what she wanted in a coffee and he made her coffee the way she likes. In Vienna, everything is espresso based and my mom just does not care for the taste. She likes something a bit more mild, and Issa delivered. When my eggs Benedict came out I wasn't particularly impressed by the looks of it, but the taste was amazing. The hollandaise sauce was so rich and creamy, and they were a little buttery, crunchy chunks of bread, I guess like croutons, sprinkled over the sauce. Get in my belly! The muffin that the Benedict was on was delicious as well. We both had fresh squeezed orange juice that was also outstanding. 100% make sure you come here for breakfast if you're staying in Vienna!
