The best place to stay on the Lake. Most lake cottage places give you that "Deliverance" feel, and give the family claustrophobic the vacation from hell, but the Ames family runs their inn much better than that (The same family has run the place for over 100 years). While still being small and cottage like, theres still enough room to stretch out and not want to kill your annoying family. Theres a kitchen in each cottage with a working stove and refrigerator/freezer. Not only that, but each cottage is about 20 feet from the beach (you can either go in the beaches between boat docks, or go to one of the two, larger, community beaches). Theres also a pier perfect for fishing and jumping off. Reservations are hard to come by,however, as weekends fill fast, and people who stay for week-long stretches get dibs on that same week for the next year, and most families have been going there every year for a very long time. Not only that, but theres a public restaurant up at the main house (breakfast all day). Best pancakes on the lake. No lie. Ames farm is hands down the best hotel/inn on Lake Winnipesaukee.

    By the lake front.

Cutest little lake-side breakfast and lunch spot. Like dining at your grandmother's summer cottage. Wildflower bouquets on the table. Tasty menu offerings. If there's a wait, nice spot to sit on the deck, in bright red rocking chairs. Walk down to the lake, if you're not staying there. Nice benches to take in the view.

The lobster roll was so delicious! And so were the chips! Glad I didn't switch them out for fries!

This was our first time here and i wish we would've stopped by sooner!! The lobster roll was DELICIOUS and so were the chips that came with it. My kids had French toast and grilled cheese. Next time we come on vacation this will be one of the first places we go to!

Cute farm style restaurant. The service and staff are lovely but my lower star review is due to priciness of a mediocre breakfast.

There is a special charm and feel you get from the place which is set up for families to create memories without a lot of interruption from the outside. Between the closed in porch, the fireplace or kitchen table inside or the chairs in the yard, the grills by the dock or the beautiful lake there are multiple locations to gather, play games and just share time together. We can envision our family spending a week in this unique setting and actively contemplating when we can schedule our longer visit.

Tucked into the corner of the basin of Lake Winnipesaukee with easy access to the "big lake," but all the quiet of a much smaller lake, this spot is truly a gem. It's easy to fall in love with Sunset Lodges while reading on their large dock, waterskiing around the basin or enjoying a refreshing swim. The cabins are charming, with big windows that look out on the lake and large stone fireplaces to help warm you up on a chilly evening. We also really enjoy that the lovely town of Wolfeboro is just a few minutes down the road, making shopping for groceries or grabbing a quick breakfast out very convenient. This is a great place for families and groups of people vacationing together.

We had a great stay at the Fireside Inn & Suites and would definitely recommend it!…read more The location was excellent, with Sawyer's Dairy Bar right across the street and plenty of attractions just a short drive away. The outdoor pool looked really nice, although we didn't get a chance to use it. The indoor pool, however, was amazing--honestly one of the best hotel pools I've been in! They even provided pool noodles and toys, which was a really nice touch. The hot tub was awesome too, especially with the waterfall feature. Our room was comfortable and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable, and while I wish the pillows had been a little larger, they were still comfortable. The room also had a pull-out couch and a large TV. The bathroom was great, with a nice shower and wall-mounted shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided. One thing I loved was the air conditioner. The fan was nice and loud, which meant I didn't even need to use my white noise machine to sleep--I slept great! We didn't use the fitness room, so I can't comment on that. Breakfast was grab-and-go style with a nice selection including cereal, yogurt, breakfast sandwiches, and toast. We ended up going to the bagel shop across the street instead, but it looked like there were plenty of good options available at the hotel. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would absolutely stay here again. If you're looking for a clean, comfortable hotel in a great location with an outstanding indoor pool, this is a fantastic choice!

Patrick's across the street has a great dinner. There's a laundromat and a wine store in that same mall. The suite we stayed in was older but very big with a full kitchen, living room and bedroom which is what I was looking for. The sofa bed was kind of bent out of shape but they have brand new plush mattress toppers. This is like staying in a condo, with a physical metal key. Elaine (I think that was her name) was so nice and I felt like I was visiting her house, she was so welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast is grab and go; breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, fruit cups, instant oatmeal, cereal/milk, muffins, granola bars etc, all prepackaged food. Honestly it was great that they even offered that. There's a convenience store across the street that you can buy food if you have a kitchen if you want to make hot prepared food. The air conditioning/heating is thru wall units so it can be noisy going on and off all night so I just used earplugs.

Full disclosure, we are a family of neurodivergent introverts- so some of the things people really talked about liking here, were stressful. I don't want to talk to strangers on my vacation. Even if the strangers are quite lovely. The second thing was we overlapped with two family reunions. Both families very nice, but within the pavilion is not just the fireplace and grills, but a bar. As a person in recovery, being this close to constant drinking was uncomfortable and had I known about it I would have skipped it. The owners also let their dog roam around, so be aware if any of your party has a fear of dogs. The only place to swim involves you jumping off the dock into area deep enough for boats to dock, so we had to find state parks each day. The beds were comfortable. The view was nice. It wasn't enough to keep us there for the duration of our vacation.

We recently rented three rooms and enjoyed the beauty that Alton Bay/Lake Winnipesaukee has to offer. What makes this area special are the mountains, trees and the cool water. The view is great, the staff is friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean. The rooms are not luxurious and are as nice as a well kept national motel chain room. No coffee maker or fridge in the room. The price is reasonable and is about half of what I just paid to get a room in Boston. Some of the best times we had were at night when it gets cool enough to sit around the large fireplace under the gazebo. Very nice. We also rented a boat for some water sport and docked at Wolfeboro for lunch. Five stars for the location and beauty of this family run business.
