There was a BAT flying around in our room at 3 am, to which the Inn told us to "deal with it" since no employee would be on site until 7:30 am. We immediately vacated the premises out of concern for our safety. The Inn not only refused to refund us but also showed zero sympathy. In clear defiance of public health guidelines, the owner told us we should have stayed in the room and should not have left. The owner said that I needed to "act like an adult," called me "an entitled little horror," and screamed, "This is New Hampshire and not a war zone in Ukraine!" She blamed me for waking them up at 3 am and even accused me of bringing the bat into the room. She was inconsistent, at times saying there was no bat and at other times saying it was just a fruit bat. Bat exposure aside, their costumer service is the opposite of hospitable, with zero regard for our health and safety. Also the room was dirty, with dust balls and no hand soap. read more

We recently stayed here on Oct 3-6, and I would have to say the experience was a mixed bag. We stayed in the Monroe suite, which was roomy, had a nice fireplace a great water pressure. The breakfast was overall good, but I wish there more than one fixed savory option. The host was helpful and friendly. But here is where it goes downhill. First of all, the room was dirty with cobwebs and dead insects in the windows. But the worst part was the room was infested with fleas! My wife went home with welts all over her body and we never went in the woods or anything else that would have caused that. I understand a place wanting to be "pet friendly" but with that means you actively make sure rooms are free of pests. I wish this hadn't had happened as it really left a sour note for our stay. read more

My wife and I have visited the Glynn House Inn a number of times and the stays have always been very good. The hosts are friendly, helpful, engaging, just all-around nice people. We stayed in the Grant room and it was comfortable and roomy. The breakfasts are yummy and filling. I loved the fireplace , bedroom , hot tub and African decor ! The coffee and tea upstairs The never ending roasted peanuts ... The swing on the front wrap around porch was divine and a special treat for us .. Huge Fireworks right on the porch ! ( July 4th week) You could even see them from our bedroom window ! We even brought our huge dog Gabriel .. who was instantly greeted with dog biscuits and dog bowls ! The breakfast at the inn was delicious every morning I loved the pesto eggs Homemade muffins ! After searching Expedia for 4-5 * places in the lakes area that allows dogs, the Glynn House Inn was one of the few that came up on the search. At almost $600 for 2 nights, it was a little steep but I figured for 4 stars it's worth it. I would rethink that after having stayed in the Inn. The Good: Breakfast! While served a little late for my taste, it was a wonderful meal presided over by Glenn (husband/Innkeeper) and cooked by Ingred (wife/Innkeeper). Good selection, great taste, proper portions. Suggestions: Glenn is super knowledgeable about things to do and see in the area and will whip out a map and highlighter at the drop of a hat. The Bad: I was emailed about a $250 dog security deposit (not mentioned in the policies, I always look) but they backed down when I questioned it. The wifi-it was broken which is a problem as there is maybe 1 bar of cell if you're lucky. The Room -reeked as if someone smoked 5 packs of Camels per day for a year. We bought clip-on deodorizers for the AC unit to deal with it. Overall for the price and the star rating I was hoping for a better experience. A little more panache if you will. I guess in the lakes region of NH this is what first class looks like. read more

Easily the best B&B my wife and I have ever stayed in. We were in the Washington Deluxe Suite for our first three nights and it's an amazingly beautiful room. The thing we enjoyed the most about the room was enjoying the unique round sitting area with the soft chairs. It's a reading paradise. We then had a reservation at another place up in Sugar Hill, you know the one that looks nice on the website but is actually a dump when you get there, and we hated that place in Sugar Hill so much we called at a very late hour to come back and thankfully we got the Coolidge Bedroom which was their last room for the night. Talk about something that was meant to be. The breakfast everyday was fantastic. When we got to the Inn we had just driven up from Manchester and along the way stopped to pick some fresh raspberries. When we told Pam and Ingrid about that they asked if we had some leftover (we had more than enough) and they incorporated the raspberries into one of the breakfast entrees the next morning. The location is very easy to find, the drive is and area is very scenic and the Inn is close to plenty of activities. This place is the real deal! read more

We recently had the pleasure of staying in the Eisenhower Suite at the Glynn House Inn and I must say it was one of the finest places I have had the fortune to stay at, and I have stayed at many hotels, Inns, and Bed & Breakfasts throughout New England. The room was true to the period, tastefully decorated, impeccably clean, and extraordinarily comfortable (especially the bed). Glenn is a knowledgeable, gracious host, and not to mention a fabulous chef (do not skip the breakfast). Oh, and if you are looking for things to do or places to dine, just ask Glenn or check his website. It beats Trip Advisor or Yelp any day. Trust me. He's got your vacation planned no matter what season you are traveling and whether you are adventurous, laid-back, or a little bit of both. If you would enjoy staying at place like those found on the Historic Hotels of America list with Five-Star Service, this is the place to come. The only regret we have is that we had to cut our stay short. We will definitely be back; in fact, I think this will be our new "romantic retreat." read more

Glenn and Co. were amazing. When we arrived, Glenn's wealth of information about the room, Inn and local treats were shared enthusiastically with us, and we even caught a rare sighting of their two Dalmatian princesses! The whirlpool bath was amazing, as was the fireplace and firm mattress, thank god! The breakfast was incredible......grilled cheese croissant breakfast sandwich anyone? Yes please, both mornings for me. I had two gigs up here that weekend, at Mad House Coffee House and the Purple Pit Jazz club, and enjoyed xc skiing all day around Lake Squam. Great place to stay a few nights or a extended period. The staff is great lead by Glenn who is a great host and swell chap. He has great knowledge about the surrounding area and can offer suggestions regarding restaurants or day trips. The suites are fantastic and most offer a jacuzzi tub and propane fireplace. The breakfast is leaps and bounds above others Inns in the area. No cheap pastries here, the muffins are fresh, the eggs are great and there's plenty of juice coffee and tea to go around as well. My wife and I decided to go on a last minute trip to NH to getaway for the weekend. Were glad to find Glynn House Inn in our search. We arrived past the check in hours due to traffic but the keys with instructions and a welcome packet was waiting for us. We stayed in the Adams Deluxe Suite. The suite is big and extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the jacuzzi hot tub and fire place in our room. The next morning we met Glenn and Ingrid. They were extremely warm and friendly. They made us feel right at home. Glenn and I could talk for hours. The breakfast was great as well. The homemade peach muffins were delicious! During breakfast, Glenn gave us some recommendations for hiking and restaurants. We had the most amazing hike with stunning views. The restaurants were great as well. Six burner bistro and the Italian farmhouse were great recommendations. We took advantage of the wine and cheese hour after our hike. Glenn also surprised us with homemade chocolate chip cookies which were my favorite! It was a nice surprise and a great treat after a long day of hiking. We were extremely happy with our stay. We strongly recommend the Glynn House Inn. Thank you for such a great experience. We can't wait to come back! read more

I just got back from the most amazing weekend spent at this B&B. My husband and I picked out this place because it is reasonably priced, it has private bathrooms, and it looked gorgeous on the website. Turns out those are the least of the great things about this place. Pam and her daughter Ingrid welcomed us warmly, and we immediately felt at home. We arrived just a tad too late for the complementary wine and hors d'oeuvres, but heartily enjoyed them the second night. Instead, with a wise tip from Pam we headed over the Common Man, a quirky, rustic restaurant and bar with surprisingly good food, just a couple blocks away. The room, admittedly the cheapest in the place, was nevertheless cutely decorated, with a comfortable bed, well-controlled heating, and a modern bathroom. Also, my husband enjoyed the bowls of pretzels and candies outside the room when he felt noshy after the bar. The next morning we were treated to a fantastic breakfast. Poached peaches, fresh muffins, and the most perfectly poached eggs. MMMM! Not really having planned ahead, we asked Pam for advice on a good hiking route--nothing too strenuous, but will pretty views. She gave us a map and directed us to the perfect hiking trail in the White Mountains. An easy 3 miles to a waterfall, it was just what we were looking for. That evening brought an unseasonal snow storm, and we were glad to have the restaurant in walking distance so we didn't have to drive. Even if we hadn't gone out, Pam has a bookshelf full of complementary movies we could have snuggled down with. In the morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see the 6+ inches of snow shoveled off the path to the main house, and from around our car, by the time we went to breakfast. We left Glynn House Sunday morning, thinking we would never have to look for another B&B so long as we live in New England. I cannot say enough great things about the Glynn House Inn in Ashland, New Hampshire. Situated in an old town in the Lakes Region just off I-93 and close to Squam Lake, it's a perfect location less than 2 hours from Boston (we didn't hit traffic, thankfully). The town itself is nothing to write home about- it's a fairly cute working class village with a couple of restaurants and a small grocery store. On to the actual inn: Hosts: 5 stars- Glen and his family were unbelievably welcoming, friendly, and helpful in getting acclimated to the inn and with arrangements for activities and restaurants. They made us feel right at home, despite the many guests who were staying there during the weekend. The room: 5 stars- While retaining much of the old charm of the original house (uneven floors, for example), they did a wonderful job juxtaposing modern amenities and fixtures into the 19th century carriage house. There was a nice sitting area, relaxing whirlpool tub, and comfortable bed in the room. The room was also spacious and secure. The inn: 5 stars- Absolutely fantastic. Glen pointed out the beautiful curved window, the nice white oak accents, and other fixtures sprinkled throughout the house. Beautifully maintained. Breakfast: 5 stars- Couldn't have been better. My fiancee and I split the quiche and Belgian waffle, both of which were amazing. I dare say that the maple bacon was probably the best bacon I've ever had (though I will be going to hell for eating it). :) I would highly recommend the Glynn House for anyone traveling to the Lakes Region. My boyfriend and I absolutely loved it here! If you're looking for an authentic bed & breakfast experience this place will not disappoint. Owners (and their Dalmatians) are very welcoming and we genuinely enjoyed the time we were able to spend chatting with Glenn. Don't be afraid to ask for any type of local recommendation! Just returned from a very bad experience at the Glynn House. We stayed in a Suite in the "Carriage House" It started badly and just got worse.... Upon our check in the Innkeeper showed us the Suite which I immediately noticed smelled strongly of paint fumes. He explained that the pipes had recently burst and they had just finished painting the rooms that day. There were no other rooms avaialble so we took the room. Although the Innkeeper believed there was no odor, it was very bothersome to us and gave us headaches. Initially, the gas fireplace seemed to work, but when we returned to our room after dinner, it would not relight -- and we could not get it to work for the rest of our stay. The Innkeeper explained later that they had had a problem with a gasleak and unfortunately there was a problem. The bigger problem to not having a working fireplace was that the Suite was freezing cold -- the heat either was not working or was just working very slowly..... so the little time we spent in our room (which was minimal due to paint fumes) we spent literally wearing our winter coats and scarves. We travel with our dog and this Inn advertises as a "dog friendly" Inn --- on this visit we had no problem --- however dog owners should be aware that they do have a young dog that, on our Fall visit, was allowed to roam off-leash and is aggresssive toward other dogs --- this made our previous visit quite uncomfortable. Had the InnKeepers been willing to really listen and understand my concerns and offer something like a discount on the room (as it was not what we had signed up for) -- we probably would have left happy guests planning on returning --- however, their only offer was that we could RETURN AGAIN (!) at a discounted rate. On this trip we had brought friends with us and I was so embarrassed that I brought friends to what was such a disappointing and uncomfortable expeirence. We will not be going back. read more

We had a very nice, albeit short, stay at the Glynn House. The hosts are very friendly and knowledgable of the area. Our room was one that included the jacuzzi/hot tub, which was immaculate and big enough to accomodate my 6'8" frame with room to spare. There are several options for your stay, including a self-catered apartment which will likely be my choice the next time around. No complaints with our room, mind you, but for an extended time I'd like the privacy and setting of the apoartment. One minor disappointment was the lack of the advertised wine and cheese happy hour in the evening which never materialized. Perhaps it was because there were only 3 rooms occupied that night, but it was something we were looking forward to. Breakfast choices were plentiful and nicely prepared and presented. We decided last minute to take advantage of the newly fallen snow and find a place up north to go skiing and bring our dogs along for the ride. We were incredibly lucky to come across the Glynn House Inn in our search! Glen and his family are spectacular and run a charming establishment where no detail is overlooked. Our spacious and comfortable room (The Roosevelt Suite) was very well appointed and we loved having coffee in front of the fireplace each morning. Glen was incredibly knowledgable about the area and all of its attractions and provided us with in-depth restaurant recommendations. We were disappointed when Six Burner Bistro was booked solid but pleasantly surprised to find the Inn had a table holding for guests hoping to get in, so we were able to go after all and had a fabulous meal. Breakfast was delicious and hearty, with more options than I have come to expect at a bed and breakfast, each more enticing than the last. We also took advantage of wine and cheese hour. Though the Inn was full we were alone in this venture, which was great because it allowed us the opportunity to have a wonderful discussion with Glen and play cards in the sitting room. Last but not least was The Cottage House- a separate building from the main house that has their dog-friendly suites. When we made our reservation we were offered the option of having dog beds in the room for us, and on arrival there were bowls, biscuits, and fresh water waiting. Traveling with the pups can be stressful but they had as good a time as we did! Bottom line: we couldn't have been happier and have already talked about returning in the spring for hiking. We recently had the fortunate opportunity to stay at the Glynn house Inn at the end of August for our 1yr anniversary/engagement celebration. I luckily came upon this bed and breakfast while searching 'gluten free' and 'bed and breakfast' when planning our weekend getaway. After reading all of the positive reviews, looking at the website, and reviewing the Squam Lake/Golden Pond area, we quickly decided upon Glynn House. We arrived at the 3:00 check-in time and were warmly welcomed by Glenn, one of the inn-keepers. During our quick check-in, Glenn gave us a quick rundown on the complementary wine and cheese hour, a full selection of library videos that were available until 7, as well as restaurants and activities in the area. He asked about any food allergies and made a note that I would be taking full advantage of the made to order gluten-free breakfast. Glenn took us up to our room and we were pleasantly surprised to find out that we had been upgraded to the Harrison Room. The room definitely had a romantic feel and even had a shower in the sleeping area facing the bed. We had full access to cable and were provided with the wifi-access code in case we needed it during our stay. The two mornings we stayed, we took full advantage of the made to order breakfast and sampled the stuffed French toast and pesto poached eggs. Breakfast always started off with a plate of fresh cut up fruit, juice, and warm muffins (gluten free for me). Both breakfast choices were delicious (both the gluten free and regular versions). The service was just as good if not better than most restaurants we have visited. Just to note, some of the other reviews I read while planning commented on extra charges and the late check-in time. Now, there are extra charges for room and food taxes that are separate from the room prices, but these charges are fully listed on the website. I can also fully understand the 3 o'clock check-in time since they have to get all the rooms ready after the guests leave at 11 o'clock. We would 100% recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone traveling through the area. We have stayed at the Glynn House four times now and enjoy staying in the carriage house behind the main house as it offers beautiful spacious suites with fireplace and whirlpool baths. The three course breakfast prepared by Pam and Ingrid are always wonderfully delicious and a great way to start the day. BEWARE. Stay away. The inn was okay. Not great, not terrible, but the service was horrible. We booked our stay as part of a special discount described on their website - book within 24 hours of arrival, and receive a 10% discount (http://www.glynnhouse.com/specials/id8.htm). We tried to book it through their website, but it wouldn't take the reservation, stating that it could not book same day (even though that is the nature of the special) so we booked through expedia. The inn would not honor the discount, even though it states nowhere that it must be booked through them directly. The worst part is they were extremely rude to us when we just asked about the discount, raising their voice and be insulting, indicating we should have called to book it (even though nowhere does it state that), and literally insulting us. My wife cried on the way home because the whole scene was so disturbing...nice way to end a getaway. Rude hosts. I've disputed the charge with my credit card company. For a mediocre place, not worth dealing with their scam. Worst customer service ever. read more
