While it wasn't exactly cheap, they restored all of the files on the USB drive including the ones I had lost on my computer. That was great. Also, last year our computer was acting up and running slow so I brought it here. They did a scan of the hard drives and reformatted parts of the storage so that we had more free space (so our computer wouldn't crash every time we needed to do something) and removed some programs we didn't need (after consulting with us first). After admonishing them for considering putting their computer into the vile hands of the generally-incompetent shitbirds at Geek Squad, Computer Renaissance is usually the place that I recommend. I don't deal with them for service (at least not directly) because I don't need to, but I do interact with their staff when I'm looking to purchase parts. From these interactions, I can safely say that unlike Geek Squad, these guys really know what they're talking about. Not only are they very familiar with the more advanced and high-end solutions and products, but they're also helpful when it comes to the more standard and common equipment. In other words, they're not the place that's going to pressure you into an upsell. They understand all facets of the industry well enough to recommend a solution that meets your needs, and they're certainly proficient enough to trust your computer to for repair. I can go into this place and talk to them about components for the $5000 uber workstation that I'm building, but also know that my completely computer-illiterate family member can go here and they won't talk down to her or try to sell her something that she obviously doesn't need. From my perspective, this is a great shop because they sell components and accessories that generally aren't available as in-store items at competitors like Best Buy or Wal-Mart. If you're looking for a less-common adapter cable of some sort, chances are that Computer Renaissance will have it in stock and at a decent price. Other places like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, or even online-only retailers like Amazon and NewEgg, will have the same parts, but will have to ship it to you... so you add a delay in receiving the item on top of potential shipping charges. Definitely give these guys a call first if you're looking for something, because you may save yourself some time and some money.

Capital Tech quickly reached out after I posted my desperate plea through Yelp, and were willing to come out to where I was to pick up the machine, quickly identify the model of the necessary part, and gave me the option to have shipment for the replacement expedited, dramatically shortening the turnaround time for the whole process. Throughout, they were very communicative, reaching out with regular updates on the status of the job, and their charges for parts and labor were entirely fair and quite competitive -- moreover, their willingness to come out on site within their service area (an approx. 25 mile radius) was truly a lifesaver in my case. The pure convenience of being able to call Chris and have him come right to your house (masked up and with plastic covers on his shoes to protect your floors) to tend to your ailing computer aside, he's incredibly nice, friendly and professional, and great at warning you about best and worst case scenarios for the issues you're having with your computer and talking you through your options for dealing with them ahead of time so you don't get any nasty surprises. Best of all, having him come right to my house to fix my laptop has consistently been both faster AND cheaper than leaving the computer at a repair shop where it will languish for days on end before anyone gets around to looking at it.
