My son has been a patient here since he was about 8 months old (he is now 10 1/2)and I have 0 complaints. There are a few different doctors the children can see, and I've liked every single one. I have never had an issue with improper diagnosis or medications. They take great care of my son, healthy or sick. Another thing I like is that they have a healthy entrance and sick entrance with their own waiting areas. I would recommend this place if you are seeking great care for your little one. read more

The only redeeming quality of this office is Dr. Francemone. Everything else is a money grab. COVID procedures should be different than other stuff and they took advantage of a close contact to get close to $100 dollars out of my pocket. They lied in their submission to insurance and said they did a sick visit because of cold complaints. They also lied and said they have to do an examination in order to request a COVID test. I had a recent visit where there were actual symptoms and they sent us directly for a COVID test to contradict a previous statement. I have no doubt they only did that because it was late in the day and I haven't paid for this office visit while appealing with insurance. They do not care about their patients. They care exclusively about how to get the next buck and I told them on the phone that they are scam artists. If you are looking for a new pediatrics office, look elsewhere, like Buffalo Pediatrics. The ONLY reason a two start review is given is because of Dr. Francemone. He is absolutely fantastic. I've had issues with other doctor's, the head nurse is very cold and lacks the amount of compassion I think is required for family medicine. I'll also add that my last visit involved a 35 minute wait in the lobby and an hour and 15 minute wait in the room. Happens everywhere I'm sure, but Dr Francemone was the only compassionate individual that day apologizing numerous times. There is at least one nurse there that is always great with my daughter and was the one keeping me updated after I was able to catch her in the hall 45 minutes into my wait. read more

As a physician, I was very disappointed in my most recent visit- for my child who was having minor issues. The nurse was wonderful. We were roomed quickly. The secretaries were very nice and helped me with some documents. The nurse told me the doctor had a "medical student" rotating with her. I had no problem with that. However, here is where it went downhill...not a medical student. This practice has apparently decided to allow NP (Nurse Practitioner) students to shadow their doctors. How many "shadowing" hours do these NP students need to then be handed a prescription pad, and be allowed to care for patients? A grand total of 700 hours (that's spread across Peds and adult medicine, by the way). Compare that to an average of 15,000 (that's 15 THOUSAND) hours a Pediatrician has- 7 YEARS of training minimum after college, before they are allowed to practice medicine. Even Petsmart dog groomers require 800 hours to be certified- and that's "hands on." What the NP student did today was barely hands on. At least the decision making was all by the physician. I was upset by the initial misrepresentation, and I'm not happy that this practice is now training Nurse Practitioners. They should be training medical students and residents, which I would have no problem with and would be pleased to see. I never allow my children to be seen by an NP unless I (as a physician) already pretty much know what is going on, but merely need a third party to write a script. I wish this practice would reconsider their decision to train NPs- a group that is militant about having full-practice authority (practice with no physician oversight) after only minimal exposure to the complexities of medicine. read more

I've gone here since I was a kid, and my mother went here since she was a kid. For well visits, they're great. But when patients are unwell they have nearly always been unhelpful and dismissive. I have probably about a half dozen stories I could tell but this one take the cake: I went to have a mass in my neck looked at (because I hadn't gotten an adult general practitioner yet) and to discuss my croup-like cough which I'v had for far too long. She (wish I could remember her name-very young) barely gave me the time of day, was very condescending, but wrote me a script for an ultrasound. I received a call with the results saying I was fine, sort of in an "I told you so" tone, but thank goodness I went elsewhere to a specialist because lo and behold I have Hodkin's Lymphoma. Good lookin' out doc. Way to trust me. read more

Run!!! Do NOT take your kids to this place!! I don't believe any of these reviews are real. They only treats kids if they are completely up To date on shots. God forbid you miss one or two, you are not a patients until they can pump your kid full of vaccines. Then you may proceed. It is by far the worst place I have ever been to. Our son is 17 and he's been going here since the age of 4. This is a lukewarm review because I have no reason to make the case that this is a special place. Our son has been healthy, generally, so we haven't been here any more than necessary. The doctors seem competent, and they seem to care OK. The problem is... I've been on hold for ten minutes now. The answering system is a maze. I've left my number on the automatic callback, and it calls me back whenever I hang up to tell me I'm still in the same place in line, and asking if I want to leave my number. I've now been on hold for nearly 20 minutes. The entire time I've been second in line. Whatever the quality of medical care, the office is such a mess that dealing with these folks can be massively frustrating, as I'm experiencing right now. Hey, I'm caller #1! They're supposed to call me back. Let's see... Ten more minutes have passed. Half an hour on hold. OK, here's somebody. The doctor I guess I need is not in today. I should get a call back tomorrow. So, the jury's out on that one... Maybe every pediatrics office is like this one, I don't know. But what I've described here is not unusual for Amherst Pediatrics, I'm sure. read more

Easiest way to explain how amazing Amherst Peds is... 1. Daughter was born in 2013 and the day after, we met Dr Francemone and immediately knew he needed to be her doc. She's never been anywhere since. 2. Every single thing my daughter ever needed he has provided, questions answered, etc. 3. October 4th, 2016 our son was born with unexpected health issues. Dr Francemone was there every step of the way. 4. After 5 weeks in the NICU our son is home, with Dr Francemone making sure he's always available for us, making sure we are comfortable caring for him. 4 months later our son catches a cold and is in the PICU for 5 months. 5. Countless visits from all of the doctors there while in the PICU, and not all from Dr Francemone were during his shifts. 6. Consistent family meetings with the PICU team included Dr Francemone every single time. Always made sure the team knew how we are as parents, never let us get railroaded and was even complimented by the PICU chief attending for his attendance and participation. 7. Our son passed and he attends the funeral. 8. Our daughter suffers after the loss of her brother and he's never more than a call away, helping in any way he can. These words honestly aren't even enough. and to those who complain about wait times...these doctors are late for your appointment because parents like us have questions, and they actually take the time to answer them! read more

My daughter has a rare disease and we were out of town and she got sick. The hospital didn't know what to do and they wouldn't fax a paper to the hospital for her fever protocol!! Not sure who is leaving all these fabulous reviews but it makes me wonder if they are genuine. This place is terrible. A good Dr uses his/ her medical training and EXPERIENCE to make a diagnosis. They listen to the parents bc we have "mommy radars" and they do not let the corporate office dictate how to practice medicine. This unfortunately happens at big groups. My son was sick for a week so I went in bc my son developed a fever after starting to get better. I explained to the "dr" that he was sick a week ago then got a little better and just now started a fever of 101. The office measured his temp and it was 101 with Tylenol. Dr said throat and ears were fine. I didn't verify this with my own eyes although I had seen some pink in my son's ear a few days earlier. I have an otoscope bc my son is one of those kids that is always sick and gets fluid and ear infections. I have come to realize that unless these drs see a raging bright red ear infection, they say it is fine. Well it wasn't fine. My son had a classic secondary bacterial infection. He ended up with two bright red painfully infected ears filled with fluid and a fever over 101 for FOUR days. *Parents be careful, if your gut tells you something seems off, find another dr. The good thing that came out of all of this is that I found a pediatrician I LOVE from sunrise pediatrics. On my follow up at Amherst, the nurse practitioner questioned the zpack I got from urgent care bc the default is amoxicillin. I proceeded to tell the nurse that my son cannot handle amoxcillian bc he gets violent explosive and painful diarrhea and she said "oh that is normal". Normal?!!!! I further explained that it is explosive on the FIRST dose. It smells like ammonia. My son is hunched over in pain and can't function. I added that he will end up in the hospital dehydrated if he is put a 7 or 10 day course. She pointed out that it was not a true allergy and handed me the dismissal chart and walked out! Is she serious?!!! My old pediatrician was the one that told me to take him off the amoxicillin and noted his chart bc his reaction was not typical and the side affects were making him worse. I would have explained this if had been given the chance, but she just got up and left the room. Sorry but the drs and nurses both equally suck! They are combative and dismissive. They make poor judgment calls. Oh and they have also called in a wrong dose for a medication. They can't get anything right. read more

As a former happy patient of Amherst Pediatrics myself, they were a top choice for our daughter after moving back into the WNY area. I'm very disappointed to report that the vast majority of staff (nurses, doctors, midlevels, and secretaries included) are rude, dismissive, and downright condescending. While there are several legitimately concerning things we've encountered since taking our daughter to this practice, I'm only going to share the particularly alarming occurrences. A few days before Easter this year our daughter had fevers of 103-104 persistently for three days despite giving Tylenol and Motrin around the clock. My husband called the sick line, and the nurse told him "it's probably a GI bug", despite making it abundantly clear that she had absolutely no GI symptoms and that it just needs to "run its course". Well, that course took us to Pediatric Urgent Care and was followed by a visit to Children's ED for lab work, IV fluids, and IV antibiotics for an abscessed tooth and ear infection. Called to schedule a follow up as advised by the ED doctors, and told "well if she's feeling better we really don't need to see her". As someone that's worked in healthcare for the last 12 years, I was floored by this statement. Blatant disregard for continuity of care not to mention a clear indicator this practice doesn't consider the general health and wellbeing of your child is a top priority. Last night I had to call Amherst Pediatrics after hours line when my daughter suddenly spiked a 105.8 degree temperature. No, that's not a typo, 105.8F. She'd had a productive cough & runny nose in the days leading up to this but otherwise afebrile, normal, happy girl. When the doctor called back I relayed this information to him, he seemed generally unimpressed and I asked, "is this not concerning?", to which he replied, "not necessarily", and advised us to take her to Pediatric Urgent Care, which he assured me was open until midnight. Drive there to find an empty parking lot and completely dark building with a sign on the door saying they actually close at 10PM. Luckily I put a call into the office where we're transferring our daughter to (but hasn't had her first appointment yet) because I truthfully couldn't even stomach the thought of having to speak with the same doctor from Amherst Peds. I was so relieved to speak with a kind, caring nurse who advised me to take her directly to Children's ED. I believe her exact words were, "anything over 105 needs to be seen immediately". I almost had tears of joy! My daughter hasn't even been seen by them yet and they've already demonstrated a kind, caring demeanor to a terrified parent and better yet, proof they have standards of care and parameters their staff follow when it comes to after hours triage! Want to know what she said before hanging up? "Yes, take her to Children's and call us this week to schedule a follow up". A practice that actually wants to follow up with a patient after an ER visit?! There is hope after all! It's ridiculous that as a concerned and terrified parent, you can't even feel comforted that your being appropriately directed by competent, caring medical professionals. In case anyone's wondering the outcome of last nights events, my daughter was diagnosed with pneumonia. I would like to at least make it known that Dr. Montgomery and Dr. Maggioli are absolutely wonderful physicians. They're the only two individuals from this practice we didn't have a negative experience with and made us feel like our daughter was in great hands. It's unfortunately not enough to keep us at their practice. read more

For several months I complained that my child would not eat but was dismissed every time or told to just go to the ER (where they only force fed her and nothing else was solved) I was constantly told that it was my fault for "letting her do whatever she wants" which was ridiculous because I followed the doctors orders every time (which oddly was to not let her drink juice or milk and only drink water... so then she would consume even LESS calories when she won't eat in the first place) Finally after my child starved herself for 5 days straight they agreed to see her. By then she almost had to be taken to the hospital. It was a total nightmare. They treat parents like idiots here. read more

I cannot day enough great things about this practice. I was skeptical as we live in downtown Buffalo, but my significant other insisted we use Amherst Peds for our (now) 9 month old son. Every visit has been wonderful from the very start when 3 of the doctors came to the hospital when our son was born to follow up with him after he had a high bilirubin count. The doctors and nurses are friendly, well educated, and very informative. Most recently, our son was up screaming for most of the night. I called this morning right at 8am (keep in mind it's a Saturday!) and they were able to get us in by 8:45am. We saw Nicole Mackey (one of the PNP's Who we always see!) and she was able to diagnose the little man with an ear infection right away. It was so relieving to know the cause his pain so we could stop wondering. The front desk staff and everyone there is so helpful and a pleasure to work with. read more

This office is bad. The people who answer the phones are so bad we never got in to see a doctor. Vanessa in the new patient area is horrible. I wrote a previous review which, to his credit, the office manager followed up on and emailed me a copy of the call. Vanessa was not helpful but was not as bad as I had recalled. He was great with follow up - the rest of the office - not so much. Aaron was great but Vanessa and the other office personnel who answer the phones project the image of the office that they are willing to do the absolute minimum necessary to get by. I don't want that where my child's health is involved. read more

I would give zero stars, if possible. This office turns single parents away, refusing to work out payment arrangements. They also do not know how to use office equipment, evidenced by an office staff member who put me on "mute", and proceeded to talk about me with the other staff. They are rude, which is unfortunate because we had a really good doctor--who they refused to let me speak to in order to try to stay on as a patient. Even some of the nurses are nasty. When my daughter was a baby and had a hard time with b. feeding, a nurse had me in tears over how bad it was that the dr. told me to supplement with formula. They are all about parent shaming. In the end, even though I offered a payment arrangement, this office let my daughter go over a trivial balance, after she had been a patient since she was a baby, and I had even been a patient as a child (and now as an adult, I have a ton of health issues--go figure, perhaps this is a blessing to move my child elsewhere). Also, you never can get in with the doctor that you want. Same goes for sick visits. I had to take my daughter to urgent care almost every time she was sick because they couldn't fit her in. I think they have just gotten so busy that they can no longer provide decent service, and they forget that they are dealing with CHILDREN and humans. Take your kids elsewhere! read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would! I have 2 children who go here, and I too went here when I was a child!... It literally looks exactly the same! If you look at other parents' photos of their kids at nearby pediatric offices, they're just stunning compared to here! I mention this because at our visit there were paint chips on the floor from a door knob that's constantly hitting the wall, and the walls are just filthy in the room we were in! That's not a major concern though... I agree with most reviews on here that the doctors- most- are very good, but the staff is just awful!!!! I have NEVER encountered such rude staff in all my life, but then again, I only come in for my kids check ups and the rare sick visit so I don't bother going through the trouble of switching practices.. If I was their more often for whatever reason, I would have switched a long time ago! But with how things are going lately, it's just such a hassle and inconvenient to spend an entire morning or afternoon just for a well check up I am switching! I let my kids roam the halls when they take this long, I will not sit in a poorly ventilated room (you all know what poor ventilation is like in here!) for over an hour with an impatient child, it's a pediatric office, toddlers aren't that patient! Try pinning them down after they've been stuck in the room for over an hour most times and giving them a check up, the kids have no patience left! The phones- they literally never answer them! I call when I know they're not busy and they refuse to answer, same with when I call the sick visit side of the office- I literally have to put my phone on speaker and call over and over and over, and try again until they finally answer, and even then they're just rude and brush you off! This is a pediatric office, if you don't know how to show respect, leave!! Most reviews on here and Google are very accurate, and all state the same issues one way or the other! I'm sure they have viewed these reviews over the years, but honestly I think they just don't care- they have a good amount of patients and things haven't changed, so why would they now with just another poor review? Also the wait times are RIDICULOUS! The last 4-5 visits we were there for 1.5-2.5 hours for well check ups!! All these times, we were either the only ones in the waiting room, or there was only 1 other patient and parent... There is absolutely NO reason to take so long, I've worked in doctors' offices before, and they are just lazy or busy chatting, it's very unprofessional! Seeing and hearing of 2 other parents on our street switching to other nearby pediatric offices and how much nicer and accommodating and shorter wait times makes me want to switch now... Get it together Amherst ped's, I KNOW you know you're losing patients, and I hope it eventually makes a big enough dent in your business that you start making major changes! I have never met a front desk employee with ANY respect! A few have been working their for MANY YEARS and I think just have an attitude of being fed up with their job- quit already! If they have nice doctors that are having patients leave because of their staff, they should realize that, eventually, people aren't going to keep coming just because of the wonderful doctors- the staff plays a major roll and eventually you can't take it and leave! I've always been very polite because I understand what it's like to deal with patients and frustrated parents, but to treat everyone with such attitude and disrespect is uncalled for! I love everything about this entire office. Staff is friendly, all of the doctors and nurses are caring and helpful. The lactation nurse is fantastic! She was just a call away whenever I needed any advice in the beginning. They are always available if you have a concern about a sick child, and can schedule you in quickly if needed. I also love the fact that they have separate entrances and waiting rooms for sick children. My children will be longtime patients for sure!!! read more

I've been taking my kids here for nearly 3 years now and am less than impressed. I like Nicole Mackey, the NP, and the newborn nurse, Karen. Everyone else is either not very intelligent, or they completely ignore what I as a parent am concerned about. I had taken my son probably 6-8 times over the course of 2 years to address his wheezing and trouble breathing and was repeatedly told by several different doctors that "it was probably nothing". It took him ending up in Urgent Care with a major asthma attack with O2 levels of 86% to finally treat him for asthma. I took my infant daughter in 4 times because I suspected a yeast infection. Was told nothing is wrong. Same story- took her to Urgent Care and she was diagnosed with a nasty little yeast infection. The doctors do not listen to my concerns as a parent, the reception staff is hit or miss with friendliness, and one of the newest complaints is that they clean the sick rooms with straight bleach. The smell is so overwhelming every time I walk in there and I become physically ill. I've told the nurses that I get sick from the smell (being that I'm pregnant) and they offered no solutions, and even tell me to keep the door closed so my kids and I don't get any air flow. The place is a joke. It used to be decent, but it's gotten too large and taken on too many patients and the care has seriously suffered because of that. read more
