I don't remember the name, but this was super good!

The food is wonderful! The menu is extensive and everything looked amazing. My sisters and I came in for lunch and it was extremely busy. The service wasn't great, but I think it was due to how busy they were. The place isn't large and it seems like people stay for awhile. We tried a variety of things. I loved the potsticker appetizer and my flaming sushi roll.

Found my new love ! Their sushi rolls are over the top !! Bond Girl is like a regular California roll on steroids!! they won me over with a sliver of shrimp and avocado over the top of stuffed crab filled roll then drizzled with a special sauce

One of the best restaurants in ALL of Bloomington by far. The food is always prepared fresh, yet quickly. The service is very friendly and courteous, and the restaurant is kept quite clean (such as no flies flying around inside). They do have a basement to accommodate large groups, or if there is high demand for eat-in. Prices are quite good and relatively student friendly. Ideal location if you are a music student at IU. My personal favorite to get from here are the combination bento boxes. They're well priced - you can easily order multiple food items at once for the same price as one sushi roll. Bigger bang for your buck! The only thing I would say is stay away from their ramen, but that's only what I've heard from others. I haven't actually tried it myself, so I will still give this place 5 stars based off my own personal experience here. Ami is an absolute gem in Bloomington.

Terrific sushi and the outdoor patio was wonderful. We enjoyed several sushi rolls and a boxed meal on our recent visit. I really liked the spicy California, and with the added miso and salad it was a terrific deal. Generous pour of wine was appreciated. All the other rolls we tried were excellent. The Korean spare ribs were tender and full of flavor. Great spot for sushi right by campus.

The building Ami is in is so cute that I wanted to be obsessed with it, but the food wasn't good at all. They first brought out miso soup and a salad and it was decent. I ordered the katsudon, which comes with rice topped with vegetables, chicken katsu, and an egg. The rice was a bit wet and the vegetables were tough. As for the chicken katsu, I think they just cracked the raw egg on top of it and let it just steam until it cooked and infused with it. The breading was completely soggy and the egg was fused on top of it. The chicken itself was also really tough. I've never had katsudon this way I know this is a sushi place foremost, but if the other dishes are that poor in quality they just shouldn't be on the menu.

First time at Ami ! We had no wait and were immediately seated and served. The food was also out in minutes after we ordered. I was a little nervous since I'm not really familiar with sushi - but, it was super easy to order ! Everything on the menu says exactly what's in it and some items do have photos. Each entree comes with a miso soup and salad. The salad was honestly my favorite part - no, it was just that good ! Unsure of what their dressing was, but it was so good I dipped my sushi in it. I ordered the dragon and my partner ordered the spicy California roll. I wasn't a fan of the texture of what was on top of my roll, but the flavors were really good. The California roll was very tasty. We also got gyoza to share - I loved having something crunchy to cleanse the pallet between each sushi !

I was having sushi cravings a bit early on a Saturday morning and was pleasantly surprised to see this restaurant opened at 11am! I feel like most sushi places are open for dinner only. The food was delicious and I was shocked at how affordable everything was. If you are a tea lover I highly recommend getting theirs. So yummy.

Ami is one of my favorite places for Sushi in Bloomington. Well priced and love the complimentary miso soup and ginger salad. Fast service.

    Dolsot Bibimbap w/ Fried Tofu

This place was pretty good! The decoration is nothing fancy but it's definitely nicer inside than you'd expect looking at the outside, and the hidden seating area in the basement is cool. There were a few things marked as unavailable on the menu, but thankfully nothing I wanted, and even so they still had a pretty wide selection of Japanese and Korean food. I ordered the dolsot bibimbap with tofu. Like most meals, it included miso soup and salad appetizers. Oddly enough the kelp in the miso soup stood out to me as being really good - it actually had some texture to it which is unfortunately not always the norm even at otherwise decent Japanese restaurants. The salad was fresh and the ginger dressing was strong and very tasty. The bibimbap was really good! It was my first time getting bibimbap in the stone pot and I was impressed when it came out sizzling and then kept sizzling. The cooked vegetables were cooked just right so that they still had a bit of crunch. The only things off for me were a matter of personal preference - the egg was fully cooked while I prefer a runny yolk, and there was some oil pooled on top, but the oil ended up being not very noticeable. It was nice that the sauce was served on the side so I could dress it to my liking. I had the "original spicy" sauce which definitely has a kick, but the sweetness cuts it a bit and it wasn't so hot that I had to be sparing with it, but they also have a milder sauce for those that prefer less heat. I was there with one other person, and we got a table right away, but they were pretty much at capacity while we were there. Our food came out pretty quickly, though, especially since they brought out the soup and salad first. The prices were a big highlight - my bowl was only $14 and it was so big that I couldn't finish, not to mention the complimentary soup and salad. Everything on the menu seemed like a good deal. My friend got a combo where he ordered ramen (which also comes with miso soup and salad) and added a roll of sushi for $3 - a ton of food for a relatively affordable price. But despite the low prices it didn't taste cheap - it was simple stuff, but legit good food. I'd for sure come here again if I lived in Bloomington.

Best sushi in town! I love the super omg roll! I highly recommend getting it without the tip lit because sometimes when they light the top lighter fluid gets into the roll and it taste funky. Without that it's hands down the best roll on the menu Side note: please bring back your lunch card! :)

Excellent sushi! I did not expect the sushi plate to be so big and high quality. Highly recommend. The service was good, our waitress took awhile to check-in and they were not very busy but it could have just been less staff working that day.

    Ramen

本当に美味しいです! I selected this restaurant for my dinner as I can no longer tolerate Indiana University's terrible food in cafeterias. It turned out this trip was totally worthy. The restaurant is not big, but it is nicely decorated. The price is relatively reasonable (I ordered this Ramen for around $10, and they also provided a free soup and a free salad). Also, their service was great, and the waiters were friendly. Most importantly, their ramen tasted quite authentic, and its soup really made my day! I will come back to it!

The noise level was low and the lighting was neither bright nor dark. The atmosphere is cold & pretentious. From the limited menu, I ordered spaghetti with mussels, salmon with summer squash and flatiron steak & frites. Why the server had to educate me the meaning of frites, I'm not sure, because I simply asked if the entrees came with any extra sides. The mussels that accompanied the spaghetti were not fully cooked. Mussels should be fully cooked. The salmon was overcooked, which made it dry & chewy. The steak was medium as requested but the meat quality was subpar. Flatiron cut is supposed to be very tender & flavorful, but either the meat was old or prepared by inexperienced hands. Neighborhood street parking is free. For me fine dining is reserved for special occasions. I randomly found The Elm because it was open until 10pm for a late supper due to a late arrival. The food preparation was amateur and the experience was poor due to our server who went out of her way educate me, assumed I didn't know any French terms, and tried too hard to earn her tip. Speak gracefully & succinctly with a courteous tone. Any hint of pretention can insult the customer & spoil the appetite. The only thing 'fine dining' about the meal was the bill. I've had much better quality steak & seafood at famous chop houses in large cities for the same price. I do not recommend The Elm.

It was an interesting addition to the sandwich because it made the sandwich a little more sour. I added a little hot honey to help counter some of the sourness. The Hive bun was very fresh. It was very expensive for such a small burger that did not come with sides & drink. I liked the big plastic cups for water. It had a bunch of advertisements on the cup, but thought it was great sizewise for water. Usually we get a small plastic flimsy cup for water at other restaurants, so it was a nice surprise. The banh mi wasn't traditional - the mint and cilantro were more like a pesto instead of whole fresh herbs and the marinated tofu is a little different - but I really liked their take on it. Both desserts were really good, but in particular the gooey blondie with the flaked salt topping. I'm also grateful for the option to add cream to the Italian soda here - I love Italian cream soda but this is the first place I've been in a while that makes it. We tried calling several times throughout the day to notify FARM that we needed to change the reservation because two of our guests were ill and would not be able to join. The restaurant's phone just kept forwarding to voicemail. We arrived at our reservation time and were told that we would be charged via OpenTable for the guests who did not join. When I mentioned the phone issue, the hostess said that it did not matter if we had called today, because the cancellation policy is 24 hours in advance. I did not know they would be ill 24 hours prior to the reservation - but whatever. I was not happy, but did not argue the issue. We were seated, only to find that there was a prefix "Valentine's Day Menu". We thought that was interesting because we had researched the website & menu before the evening, and there was no mention of this menu being the only option for Friday (2/13) night. Even the menu PDF says "Valentine's Day" - there were signs throughout the restaurant noting "Valentine's Day Menu". The server also mentioned that many other patrons were upset. The items on the menu were also priced far higher than the regular menu. So, we were excited to try FARM, arrived to a very sassy attitude (from the host) about the party size, noting that I was going to be charged. Getting to the table to see a modified menu, whose prices were jacked up. The (very sweet) server validated our feelings and confirmed that other patrons were upset, too. We finally just decided to leave. On the way out, the "sassy" host was snarky and mentioned that we would likely be charged again for the remaining guests leaving and not eating. I have pictures of the signs, and screenshots of the website - and I dare FARM to charge me for their false advertising. At least note the website, signage, and OpenTable if you are following modified menus or processes, and train your team better!! We were thrilled to try FARM, and left saying that we would NEVER go back. So disappointed :(

Anyway, it is a little out of the way. It's walkable from downtown but not really in the downtown core. Pretty quiet when I was there, but the atmosphere felt approachable. Some of the chairs were like school desk chairs (adult-sized, of course) that I haven't seen since I was in primary school which was kind of funny. The guy at the counter was cheerful and friendly. They looked like they had run out of some of the hot savory items by Saturday mid-afternoon, but there was still a wide variety of sweets. I believe the current owners are Indian, and you see some of those flavours featured. I got: Samosa handpie: Good, not mind-blowing, but good. Nice flavours. If you like a flaky crust, this is not it, but I liked the rustic pastry crust. Pistachio cardamom donut: Loved it. Before I moved to Bloomington, there were a few bakeries that offered vegan-GF cake donuts that I loved, and this was the first thing I've gotten here that reminded me of that. Pleasant texture and strong cardamom flavour, not too sweet. I think these are baked donuts, so they're a little different from regular fried donuts, but in a good way IMO. Rose dream latte: Milk with rose syrup topped with coconut whip and nuts, no espresso. Tasted great, but more of a dessert drink than I was expecting. The coconut whip was quite thick. The concept could probably use some refinement, because the whip was too thick and rigid to drink without a straw, but the nut pieces were too big to go through a straw, and so I couldn't figure out the best way to drink it. From what I understand, there are some longtime fans of this place who feel like the quality has dropped since the most recent change in ownership, but as someone who had never been here before, I really had a good experience. I get why people would be upset when something changes, but if you are considering trying this place for the first time, I wouldn't be too put off by the negativity around the change in ownership. There's no other place specialized in vegan baking in Bloomington, so I think it's good to support what they are continuing to do here, and even though I am partial to vegan food I wouldn't say that if it wasn't also GOOD. They also had some refreshingly unique options for baked goods.

Their vegetarian dumplings are all tasty but each is a little different. I've only tried the steamed so far because I really like the tenderness of the steamed version. The dumplings come with soy sauce and chili sauce for dipping, which are not optional - you need to dip them for the best experience. The chili sauce isn't too hot, so you can and should be generous with it. The Tibetan tea is interesting - it's a smooth milk tea, kind of like a milder version of Indian chai, but it does have its own unique taste that I can't totally put my finger. Other drinks are all good too, thought some aren't exactly as you might expect. The iced Indian tea is a little milky for my taste but the hot version is stronger. The Thai iced coffee is great but it's less sweet than the usual ones (not inherently good or bad, just depends on your preference). The mango lassi tasted closer to mango juice, but it was really refreshing. All of the food is kind of different from the usual restaurant style food from the various cuisines represented on the menu; it feels more like home cooking, so more subtle flavours, less salty and a little lighter, but very wholesome and hearty. The hotter spice level comes from a chili paste they add, and I recommend getting at least a level 2 (level 1 is no spice), because the chili paste also flavours the dish and level 2 is still pretty mild. The people are very kind and I love the calming atmosphere. I have seen them get busy in the evening on weekends, but usually you can count on being able to get a table.
