I'm shocked not everyone is giving this place five stars. We stayed three nights here and the service was incredible, the views were spectacular, and the food at the restaurant ranged from really good to decent. For lodge food, you're not going to do much better than that. We stayed here for a college visit to Georgia Tech. It wasn't a bad drive down to the university and back, and then we spent the rest of our time hiking around the falls. We had a wonderful long family weekend. I much preferred staying here than in a hotel/motel. The breakfast buffet was really good. I can't think of anything I wanted that they didn't have. The dinner was decent, on lodge food level. Maybe I'm grading on the curve, but to be honest I'm not expecting Michelin Guide levels of restaurant quality at a state park lodge. I would strongly recommend the ground level rooms so that you get a patio. That was super nice (see picture). I highly recommend the lodge. I'm definitely bringing the family back sometime. read more

*Review of Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge Hotel** This property desperately needs better care and attention. The rooms were not properly cleaned, and the bed was slanted and uncomfortable. We also did not receive the room we originally booked; staff gave us an excuse about plumbing issues instead. Although the waitress was pleasant during our first dinner, the food itself was poor and the menu lacked good options. Overall, the hotel is not well maintained and does not meet basic standards of comfort or cleanliness. If your goal is to visit the waterfall, I recommend booking another hotel in town and driving up. I will not be returning to this location. read more

My husband and I stayed in one of the cabins up closer to the lodge. We loved the simplicity and quietness. The cabins are rather rustic and older, but clean and spacious. The bed was quite comfortable. Kitchen was pretty well stocked. But just like going to a beach condo, you will need to bring some extra things such as paper towels, kitchen towels, dish soap. Being on the back deck was like being in a treehouse! We had to extend our stay 2× due to delayed work on our home nearby. The front desk staff was extremely accommodating and quite friendly. Have visited here often, usually in the RV park which is nice. This trip we decided to rent one of the cabins. Upon our arrival we discovered that the cabin is pretty dark and not well lit with numerous light switches that seem to control nothing. The website states "Our recently renovated facilities come well-equipped with heating and air conditioning, decks, fireplaces and satellite TV, and are some of the finest cabins in Georgia." I can assure you that this is not near the truth as the furniture in our cabin was really old and worn and the only part renovated was the bathroom! The kitchen might have been "refreshed" but certainly not renovated. The room was not cleaned well prior to our arrival and had cob webs on lamp shades, windows, and most other areas. (pics). We spilled some water on the floor and my wife wiped it up with a paper towel and the result was disgusting. The floors were filthy. Upon returning home I received my charges via email and discovered a 12.00 dollar per day charge for "Lodge Fees". According to their website Our $12 Lodge Fee Includes: Applies to Cabins and Lodge Rooms only WiFi Access in Lodge, Rooms and Cabins Two bottles of water in guest room In-room coffee and tea Local newspaper (available in lobby) Unlimited local and toll-free calls and long distance access $5 State Park Pass Business Center There was no water, coffee or tea in our cabin and in fact we had to go to the Lodge for coffee (up a different road than the cabin). there was a small coffee pot, but no filters or coffee. Don't know about the WiFi since we didn't use it, but can't believe there is a charge for it if you are a rental guest. Not sure about a daily newspaper, but if it is at the Lodge lobby, that is a drive to the top of the mountain from our cabin. After numerous calls to inquire about these charges, I was told that the GM would call me back, which never happened. I did receive a call from a young lady who talked in circles about the "amenities" I had access to for the 12.00 fee, such as the visitor center, trails, falls, and other park areas as well as access to the Lodge and restaurant. When I told her that day use visitors have access to all that for 5.00 per day she became flustered and said she was not explaining it well and would have someone call me back. (Never happened). While on the phone I told her about the cabin not being cleaned, she at first said she would give me an email to send them to, but never did. We did visit the new visitor center which is really nice although the folks in there seemed a bit depressed. Now the good: Shelia and Fatima at the Lodge desk were great. In fact Shelia helped us to round up coffee since we had none in our cabin. This lady has the perfect customer service attitude and couldn't have been more helpful. The park and falls are beautiful and well kept and we always enjoy a visit. We will never stay, or recommend a cabin though. If you don't have an RV stay in Dawsonville or Dahlonega and drive over for a 5.00 fee, and enjoy all the amenities of a cabin or lodge rental, who pays 12.00 per day. Bought some souvenirs at both the Lodge and the Visitor's Center for gifts and enjoyed that also, so check out those shops. This park needs a thorough audit by someone. Could be a real gem in Georgia. read more

Food was mediocre but the views were spectacular! You pay $5 to enter the park, it has a visitor center, clean bathrooms, a playground, hiking trails, and some rental cabins and camping sites. The access to the waterfall was closed at the moment, Restaurant: We paid around $18 for an adult, $10 child, for the all you can eat lunch buffet. Not many food options and food was lacking seasoning/flavor but our server was very polite and attentive. The view from the lodge & restaurant was beautiful, they also have outdoor seating that we enjoyed! read more

This place was sufficient for our needs and situated right in the path to enter the trail and hike up/down to see the falls. The comfort was fine. The bathroom door in our room didn't lock which wasn't good because it's two doors that slide to meet in the middle. So, there was an opening right in the middle. The service was lacking. Everyone was kind. But, when I tried calling the front desk to ask questions, they weren't picking up. Since it's under staffed, an extra responsibility for the guy was too much. Then again, it didn't look like too many were staying at the lodge. We went to breakfast at 7am and the entire lodge and restaurant was quiet. We were the first ones at the restaurant. During our 30 mins there, only one more person entered to have breakfast. The female host was wonderful! She kept checking up on us and helping us in any way. She was cheerful and always happy to answer any of my tourist questions. The food quality was just ok for $15 per person. Yes, it was all you can eat. But, it was just the usual choices like at your 2-3 star hotel's complimentary breakfast. There was eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, oatmeal, fruits, etc. Oh, the view! Overall the Lodge was great. How can you beat those views?!?!.... awesome access to the Top of the Falls and steps to lower levels. Easy access to Appalachian Trail for serious hikers. Room was adequate and clean. Bed was comfortable. A/C was loud but that's always a challenge in hotels. Walls were pretty thin. We could hear the neighbors but everyone settled pretty early and didn't keep me awake. With a decent restaurant this place would be amazing. The menu was limited and food was mediocre for the prices. I was prepared for that based on other reviews. The server was very pleasant and said they were between Executive Chefs. Hmmm...Again, could be a great destination with a better restaurant! read more

The lodge is set in a beautiful location, nice views. We wanted to eat lunch there and checked hours on google. However when we got there we found out we seated dining had ended and we could just order carry out. Our choice was a burger, chicken tenders or a salad. The burger was good but the chicken tenders were breaded in what looked like a fish breading and mostly inedible. Very disappointed. We had to sit outside to dine, only one table not big enough to accomodate our group, and it was raining. read more

The Lodge is situated in a beautiful setting, with gorgeous mountain views from every room. Favorite rooms are on the ground floor, which have French doors that open onto private patios. The only issue you may have is that many visitors smoke and you can easily smell it from your patio. Rooms are adequate and usually clean. The outdoor seating area on the back of the lodge is undergoing renovation and looks as though it is designed to be a wedding venue. The terrace that was shaded from the sun seems to have been converted to a dining area, with uncomfortable chairs and tables. There is a firepit area, but the seating there is very limited and completely open to the sun. The terrace area is the only open air space in the property and it is no longer usable lounge space, making the Lodge a much less desirable location. read more

Amicalola Lodge is located in a beautiful state park with the most amazing waterfall and views. While nice, the lodge itself could do much more to improve cleanliness and service, especially during COVID. The bathrooms next to the lobby were FILTHY the entire time we were there. I was appalled. Trash all over the floor, trash overflowing, no toilet paper, etc. I could tell it hadn't been touched for at least 24 hours because the same trash was laying around. Some of the desk clerks wore masks and some didn't. Most of the employees wearing masks had them pulled down. No one told us that our room wouldn't be cleaned because of COVID. Not sure why, but one would hope it was so they could devote time to more cleaning throughout the lodge. The gorgeous patios overlooking the mountain views had overflowing garbage cans the entire time. The only way to purchase an alcoholic beverage was to walk across the restaurant to a small bar area and hope a waitress had time to stop and help you. It took a long time. They could easily set up a limited bar out on the patio areas, pipe in a little locally themed music and create a wonderful atmosphere for the afternoon and evening sunset views. Instead, overflowing garbage cans, dirty tables, and no one seemed to care. The rooms were nice enough - no complaints there. The buffet meals were good enough. I would see kitchen help come out from the back with masks around their necks, though, which was concerning. THe maps of the park offered in the lobby were difficult to read and interpret. Trails are either not marked or poorly marked. Everything that needs to be improved wouldn't cost lots of money -- just attention to detail, hard work, and caring enough to make it a special place for guests. read more

I attended an educator workshop here for the last three days. The staff in all areas of the lodge went out of their way to be helpful & friendly. We were treated to breakfast, lunch, & dinner each day plus a roomful of snacks to grab during workshop sessions. The buffet was perfectly adequate...some items were more successful than others. Highlights: mac & cheese, pork tenderloin, meatloaf, steamed veggies, breakfast potatoes, and the best pancakes ever. There were misses...roasted artichokes, for example. The ladies and gentlemen working in the dining room were amazing. We were a large group and they managed to attend to us as well as the regular guests. The facility itself is very nice...clearly well-maintained and recently renovated. Our meeting space was comfortable (aside from being really cold) and there were attentive staff members who came through on our breaks and tidied up. The snack room across the hall blew us away. As teachers we aren't used to being treated to unlimited snacks all day! They had a great variety of beverages, fruit, granola bars, candy, freshly popped popcorn, and then there were the daily hot snacks (fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, fried mozzarella, and southwest egg rolls). We all left a couple pounds heavier. ;) I intend to return with my family ASAP! read more

Probably the most unusual place to stay in GA.....the views here will blow you away! This gem is often forgotten...it's only 50 minutes from metro atlanta and very kid friendly. The rates to stay are very reasonable....the rooms are dated but comfortable and clean...the view....unreal...miles and miles of mountains views....and the top of the Amicalola Falls are a few steps away. We ate at the buffett for dinner and breakfast and it's very reasonably priced for what you get. Dinner was london broil, stuffed shells, mixed veggies, homemade noodles, BBQ ribs and full salad bar...plus desert for $20. They also have a decent desert bar with 5 or 6 selections and soft serve ice cream. Breakfast the next morning was bagels, waffles, fruit, yogurts, cereal, sausage, eggs, biscuits, grits and juices for $9. You can also opt to pay $5 for just a parking pass if you like and walk down the 500 steps to the base of the falls....we did it and nearly died hiking back...but we did it. A good place to remember for sure! Spending a few hours here rocking on the back terrace at sunset will certainly create memories for you and have you forgetting whatever ails you for a bit.... read more

The Lodge is very nice and picturesque. The bed sleeps great. Our toilet wasn't clean but that's why I carry lysol wipes. Never trust cleaning staff. The restaurant, The Maple, is a buffet and nice to have on site since the closest restaurants are 30 minutes away. My only complaint with the restaurant is when we waited for it to open for an hour they told us they couldn't seat is because they had a large group who had rented out the place. Granted it was a women's group staying at the lodge but we couldn't eat until 1:30. But the staff was very nice and offered us free wine or beer. It wasn't their fault. Overall a nice place to get away to. read more

We would not recommend this Lodge. They offered a bed & breakfast special for $126.00 per night. After they add 15% gratuity & $21.00 a night lodging fees and fail to mention these charges plus taxes. We paid $183.00 per night. The pillows were nasty with drool stains & the air conditioning was noisy, we could not get any restful sleep!!! FOOD WAS AWFUL!!!!!!!! read more

My husband and I stayed here for two nights between Xmas and new year. It's a busy hotel full of kids and families viewing the waterfall and going to the adventure park so not for r&r but we knew that. When we arrived the front desk were friendly and helpful. We decided we would grab a drink and sit on the deck area after leaving our cases in the room. There were many people doing the same. My husband asked a member of staff at the restaurant where he could order a drink. She was very rude in her reply and said "I'll get it for you but you will be waiting a long time" and promptly walked off!! So we gave up on that right away. Later we decided to go to the restaurant. It's buffet style bit the options were extremely limited. The staff were friendly but when I enquired to vegetarian options I was told the only thing was salad and in fact today they were totally out of salad!!! We would have left but it was late and it's the only place around for miles!! My husband had roast beef and veggies which he said were over cooked. The selection was so limited. It cost over $20 for that!!! The next day we enquired about lunch only to be told they were only serving pre made sandwiches on paper plates as their dish washer was not working. The restaurant manager was gruff and rude about it. The hotel rooms were nice. On the small side but nicely furnished. We had a coffee maker but no coffee to put in it in the room. There was no room service available either only overpriced snacks at the shop in the lobby. The maid never came to change our room either. The bed needed to be replaced. It was dented in the middle and it put our backs out. So all in all I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel it's not worth the price. It should be a one or two star hotel with the lack of facilities offered. read more

I stayed there fifteen years ago and the view is incredible.I returned on October 11, 2015 to find the restaurant has not changed in quality of food. Except for the bagged salad which was not frozen or canned and thawed not exceptional at all. The chicken I had in the middle was not cooked. I was horrified. For $17.00 after all of these years it seems they would work on improving there selection and quality. The only good thing about the food was their oatmeal cookies. I have been a travel writer for more than twenty years and have prepared food for Camp Chesterfield during seminary week and for the United Metaphysical Chapel during convention so I know what real food is. Next time I will only sit downstairs and order drinks to watch view. A note to the buyer: Killer view and killer food literally watch out. read more

Always wanted to stay here but during Covid was not the time. The views are definitely gorgeous but the staff was really disappointing. According to the website they are adhering to Covid/CDC guidelines, but no one at the front desk wore masks so at check in you have to be face to face with them with no protection except your own mask. Maybe 25% of customers wore masks in the common areas and hardly anyone respected social distancing when we tried to be on the outside decks. We hoped for our kids to do schoolwork in the lobby but since there were few masks we were stuck in our room. The rooms are dated, toilet seat broken, mold in the shower. We paid a $12 daily lodge fee that included bottles of water we never saw. Bring your own cleaning supplies: I wiped everything down when we arrived and found food crumbs, coffee stains, hair and dust. Extra cleaning during Covid was a joke. The house cleaners in the hall did not wear masks either. When we checked out the unmasked staff were not kind at all. Really, really disappointing stay. read more

I must start by saying Amicalola Falls and the Lodge is undoubtedly one of my favorite places - beautiful views, wonderful hikes and some really fantastic people. However, my review is for those who may be thinking of planning a wedding in this location. If you're someone who cares about details, follow-through, and just all around customer service on your special day, then DO NOT get married here. My expectation was that if we took the time to review (and pay for) the details of our event, then they would actually end up as part of the event itself. That was not the case. That list of details (both big and small) goes on. And on. And on. And on. In all honestly, if my concerns had been addressed with at least a small amount of compassion, as opposed to the flippant "another #$%5 wedding" that I had to deal with (yes, actual quote from the planner, overheard by a wedding guest) then I probably would have avoided this review. Perhaps they will upgrade their event staff to match the level of their recent façade upgrade. Until then... I would not suggest this as your wedding venue. (Kudos do go to Chef Steve and to the two unfortunate staff members assigned to work an entire wedding - you guys were wonderful) My wedding was incredible. Why? Because my friends, my family and my husband are amazing. The person the Lodge has put in charge of a girl's special day - not so much. read more

Spent the weekend here for my bday, during thier christmas open house. It was a GREAT weekend. The beds were a little small, but the view is amazing from the rooms. The inhouse resturaunt is pretty decent, it's buffet style, but it's pretty good for buffet. The display with a DNR employee and the owls was very impressive. The christmas carols, story telling and so on is GREAT for youngin's and grown ups. Waking up to the view of the mtns was simply stunning. The hike is pretty amazing. My family and I love this place for lots of reasons. First of all the folks are so nice. The view is spectacular, the food is always good. Lots of goodies in the Gift Shop as well, one item is my husband's book, God-Fearing Criminals by J.M. Burt. There are lots of things by local folks. Just stop by and look at all they have, T-shirts are real special. There are also private party facilities for most events you would like to have, weddings, receptions, reunions, class reunions, you name it. An all around favorite place to go. The view is beautiful and is the best thing about the lodge. The on site restaurant is adequate. Be prepared for no privacy in the rooms because of the sliding bathroom doors, two doors on a track that I guess were supposed to come together when closed. There were huge gaps between the doors and the wall, and the doors didn't quite meet in the middle, so the person in the bathroom could see out into the room and the person in the room could see right into the bathroom. I don't care how trendy sliding doors are. Get real bathroom doors. I won't be returning to the lodge until you do. read more

Posting this review for my parents: We stayed here from 5/20 to 5/29 and not one day did our bed linens get changed and the one day we were out for 12 hours and we didn't even get fresh towels my husband has to go to the front desk at midnight and ask for them Honestly for what we spent there our room should have been spotless and fresh flowers in it everyday I can tell you now I will NEVER go back there to stay all because of the housekeeping staff They are rude as they were standing out in front of our room one day just complaining because we were not out of our room at the time we said we would be but oh well you don't wanna clean my room when I'm not there then you can wait til I leave When they did give us clean towel all they did was make the bed they never even vaccumed our floor The table that held our coffee maker was also broken my husband leaned on it and it almost spilt hot coffee all over him The vending machine on the third floor was out of order the entire week were there however if we needed something we could go to the gift store The rear of the staff there were polite and the front desk lady Julie was very kind The view there was amazing as well My husband and I should have just stayed in Jasper in a hotel but we stayed at the lodge to be close to family that is there read more

My mother and I visited for a few days with my 2 children and our visit was truly appalling. We stayed in a loft room, and the window looking out was so dirty that you could hardly see out of it, the window sill was rotten on the inside and there was mildew on the walls. Not exactly somewhere I wanted my 2 year old to be playing. We paid extra for a fridge, had to call and wait an hour for it, then when it got there it had never been cleaned. We had to scrub it down and sanitize it because it had hairs and mildew all in it. As soon as we walked in the door to the room, we could see that there was a very large indention in the middle of the bed where the mattress had been buckled. There was busted glass all over the back porch both times we went out to sit and boarded up windows all over the back of the lodge. The day we went for a hike, all of the bathrooms in the park except at the lodge were out of order and we were told we'd have to wait for porta potties. We decided to visit the restaurant and even there it was awful. We waiting over an hour for a meal when there were only 2 other families dining. The waitress never apologized, she just said well, better late than never. The quality of the food and the visit for the price was horrific. I've never complained about a visit before and I certainly have never had such a visit within GA state parks, but I can say that this one has left a very ugly taste in my mouth. For the price of our room and stay, we could have had a nice clean getaway to the beach. I'm extremely displeased. read more
