Crazy good! We stopped in on our way through from Arizona to Colorado and what a nice surprise. The interior was modern, clean and very nicely decorated. The server was a sweetheart. And the food was ridiculously good! I got the Navajo Burger(because I love fry bread). The burger was HUGE, juicy and perfectly seasoned and cooked. My husband had the combo plate that came with so much food. Each one of our meals was $15! I have no idea how that's even possible to provide so much good food at such a low price, but it was true! Fabulous! We had the mutton tostado which was absolutely amazing- so well seasoned and delicious, the fry bread chalupa was outstanding- fresh and the blue corn fry bread was soooo good. Kids had fry bread tacos and a burrito and cleared their plates. Really delicious food, with the fresh ingredients of local Navajo food and the heavier spice of Mexican food. Mutton tostada was well-seasoned and tender; red chile pozole had a wonderful richness that complemented the blue-corn fry bread; three sisters burrito had everything cooked perfectly. One of my dining companions thought the food came out a bit cold, but that didn't personally bother me. Having eaten a lot of both traditional Navajo food and various Mexican food, it's great to see them combined, and the result is delicious! A charming cafe right in the center of town that's very clean and has friendly service. I ordered a Three Sisters burrito, a vegetarian option, which included corns, beans and squash. The size of the portion was very generous and I could only eat about 3/4 of it, but I savored every mouthful! It was delicious. The menu (see attached pic) offers a delightful variety of choices. Servers were very patient and friendly and the place was nicely decorated and had you feeling like you were on a dessert oasis. The best part? Their food! We ordered the blue corn fry bread dessert and shrimp entree. The fry bread is such a unique dish and extra moist and crispy at the same time. I wish I had an Amigo Cafe close by!! Amigo Cafe is an upscale Mexican cafe in Kayenta AZ, a place where dinner might be Hunt Brothers Pizza, if judged just from the map. Well shame on me. Amigo Cafe would be at home on any street anywhere. The menu is modern Tex-Mex with some touches worked in from the local Navajo culture. Don't be put off by the somewhat dumpy exterior with garish industrial lighting. Inside the look is modern and neat. Offering include traditional tex-mex dishes and some creative new menu ideas from the kitchen. I had a trio of pork tostadas with a light creme sauce with chips and salsa. THe salsa was a fresh light mix. Service was prompt and friendly. Masking is required for entry. (This is Navajo law, not just policy, and I found it refreshing to see public health seriously, for a change. If that kind of thing bothers you, there's always that chicken place that is closed on Sunday. (But not within 200 miles). read more

Friendly staff, one of the best Fry Bread Tacos I've ever had. Tried a bite of the pork taquitos which were excellent as well.

We absolutely loved this place. The food was excellent, the service was great and it is warm and cozy inside during cold weather. My husband ordered the mutton tostadas and I ordered the 3 enchilada meal with rice and beans. All were delicious, quick and hot. Even though we were full, we splurged and ordered dessert. They had apple pie nachos which were off the chart good! It's a huge serving and we scarfed it up. We hope to be able to come back one day if we're in this area again. read more

I found the best Mexican food in Arizona! Who would have thought a little spot in Kayenta would leave me despairing that they are so far away. I had the pork taquitos with lime crema and green chile sauce. The tortillas were delicate and fried perfectly. They shattered when I cut in to them. After that first taste, I abandoned all decor and just ate them with my hands. That crema and green sauce were pure magic. My SO had a Navajo taco that was huge and piled high with chili, beans, cheese, tomatoes and red onion. The taco was light, not greasy and very good. I didn't taste the rest, but he was very content. The two ladies running front of house were very busy yet managed to keep everyone satisfied. Did I say my iced tea was perfectly brewed? Lol. If you find yourself on a road trip (for example, coming from Page and headed to Monument Valley) then I definitely recommend stopping here at this local and quaint restaurant in Kayenta. It's going to be your best option for food and it will give you a delightful break from the road. The service is solid and the staff are very kind. Nothing to critique or complain about. And the restaurant is very clean as well! We ordered : 1. Pork Pozole (Top Recommendation) 2. Mutton Tostado (Recommend) (Get your sheep game on, yum.) 3. Chicken Nachos (I would pass on this next time, I think the chips & salsa is just fine. Their salsa is indeed DELICIOUS!) 4. Chimichanga (I was a bit disappointed and this is why: I would recommend ordering it extra crispy, I don't think it was as crispy as I would have liked, especially the inner parts of the tortilla. Also the listed ingredients that describe the Chimichanga describes what's plated, not what is inside the chimichanga. So what's inside the chimichanga itself?...just the shredded beef. OMG! What a quaint cafe with mouth-watering food. We stopped here for lunch after a trip to Monument Valley. There was a bit of a wait for a table, but once inside it was definitely worth the wait! We ordered a variety of dishes, including chicken quesadillas, fries with pumpkin mole, burritos, and delicious Navajo fry bread. This was, by far, the best food I've gotten while in the area. And I can't forget about dessert! We ordered an Affogato and a Mexican chile lemon cake. I think I just discovered my new obsession! Both were delicious. The Affogato was refreshing and the Mexican chile lemon cake was so flavorful and fluffy. You have to try this!! This cafe was affordable and worth every penny.
