What an amazing experience and way to get introduced to a city! Brent the owner was our tour guide and is very passionate about his work and does a great job in storytelling. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Texas and brings a lot of authenticity and passion to the way he tells his story. Wish the tour was longer with food stops along the way where we would get a chance to hear the history and influence of Texan cuisine from Brent. This tour is a must do and should probably be the first thing on your list when visiting San Antonio. read more

This is the absolute best way to get acclimated to San Antonio as a tourist! We arrived in town, and thanks to advanced algorithms we were offered about a dozen paid tours (walking, hop-on/hop-off, riverboat, etc.). Since I always want to get my steps in, a basic online search revealed this more innovative and affordable approach - A free tour, where the compensation is handled by tipping based upon the satisfaction with the experience. The tour was easy to book online, with just a day's advance notice. Well, Jane was an absolute superstar! She met us in the center of town (Main Plaza) and provided the history of the city, it's residents and its cultural changes over time, the development of the riverwalk and so much more. She gave great recommendations for other places to visit, and even good restaurants along the river. The result was an informative and educational experience in a small-group. Amigo does also offer other paid tours, but for our purposes this was a great way to start. Well done, Amigo! read more

We did one of their Signature Tours (not the free walking tour). We paid about $40 per person to tour the Tower Life building, and I must say that it was totally worth it. (the $40 per person fee was required for this tour - I think the free walking tours ask for a voluntary donation of whatever you think it is worth) Our tour guide was Brent (a different Brent, not ME), and he was THE BEST tour guide I have ever had. He is very energetic, informative, entertaining, accommodating, and funny (I know it sounds like me, but it really isn't). The communication prior to the tour was perfect. We found the meeting place with no problems, and the tour guide was right on time. The tour lasted just about 2 hours, which was a perfect length. I had no regrets at all and I highly recommend this tour company - it was very fun! P.S. The Tower Life building tour will not be available for long because they are about to renovate the building. - May 2024 read more

It was a very interesting tour with Jane. She has lived here a long time and knew the history well. Saw Main Plaza, River Walk, Alamo and some of Hemis Fair grounds. It was free but most of us tipped about $20 each, a bargain for a 2-hour tour. read more

Highly Recommended Tour! My wife and I took our grandson to San Antonio this past weekend, and the highlight of the trip was the Amigo Tour lead by Sabastian. We loved it, as did everyone in the group. That's about the most enthusiasm--genuine enthusiasm---'ve ever heard from a guide. Brad cared about our well-being, called deeply about the value of the place we toured--the Alameda Theatre--and was genuinely interested in what the audience had to contribute. Happily, three of us had actually attended a program there when it was a living theatre. Sebastian was our tour guide on Jan. 26, 2024. He met us promptly at 4:30 in the designated meeting spot and began the tour promptly. He was extremely knowledgeable on the history of San Antonio and the geography. He was so polite and constantly asked if we had any questions. He was very attentive to the group and did a lot of it while walking backwards so we could hear everything he had to say. He was very witty during the tour. He allowed time for a bathroom break but kept to his schedule. We will certainly refer friends and family to Amigo tours during their getaway to San Antonio. The walking tour of the Alameda Theater was incredible in every way! Brent provided a wealth of history and insight, not just about the theater itself, but about the San Antonio culture that influenced the theater's developmentand use. Best walking tour that I have taken was of the Tower Life Building in downtown San Antonio TX because the guide Brent did a lot of prep work learning historical facts & trivia before heading out on the 1st tour & now that iconic office building is soon being vacated so that 'apartments for rent' can be designed in the space; & residents will be living in what was once considered a "skyscraper of the south" like those in much bigger cities like NYC & Chicago I'm hoping before those new residential apartments are closed to the public we are allowed to have a tour of the remodeled spaces that we saw on this recent tour read more

Another incredible Signature Tour that was amazing! I had such a great time and learned so much from Brent. He is a master at just the right mix of story, fact, history, people, art, architecture... you learn something new about everything. I can't imagine the time and effort put into designing and preparing for these Signature Tours. As a guest you get the skip the research and get right good stuff in a super 2 hr package. We are huge fans of free walking tours since they rarely disappoint. We have done them all over the world. Since the guides work only for tips the quality of these free walks is very good. This was true with our historical walking tour of San Antonio with David. He was excellent and his knowledge of history and details was mind-blowing and entertaining. Great history lesson! Before I took this tour, I did the River Walk boat tour, I took a educators class at the Alamo and took my time after the tour to watch the video and read all the info, I went to Mission San Jose and took the tour there and I also took the Pearl Brewery tour. Then I came to this tour....I had my tour with Brent. Wow talk about having an intimate look at San Antonio. He was full of knowledge. He talked about some of San Antonio's not so well known heroes, but made a but impact in the city. Brent was a great tour guide. Be sure to reserve your spot for the tour and wear walking to running shoes. On the day I went, it rained in the morning. The rain must of scared some people off. By the time the tour started it was dry. For my group there was just a handful of us. The weather in SA is weird. But don't let stop you. Just bring an umbrella and light jacket for the colder months. read more

There's no set price for our Free Public Tours - you tip whatever you feel is fair at the end - so you are guaranteed priceless knowledge and possibly a shot at one day winning Jeopardy, all while having a good time and seeing the best sights of the city. Various themes of stories and history are offered on routes Downtown (from the historic block where San Antonio began to the crown jewel of its skyline) and in King William District (one of the city's most beautiful neighborhoods, where homes and individuals have royally contributed to San Antonio's culture and history). As there's no set price, every visitor and local has the opportunity to learn the fascinating twists and turns of the city's more than 300 years of history.

Amigo Walking Tours started where many great ideas find their birth: writing on a napkin, illegible thanks to transatlantic turbulence shaking the tray table used as a desk. San Antonio is a world class city of tourism, and it absolutely deserved a walking tour that showed off its jewels without making tour members sell their own jewels to come along. Our mission is to be a friend to any person in San Antonio - visitors and locals alike! The first Amigo Walking Tour took place in May 2018, and it's been a remarkable adventure ever since.

All of the customer service staff at the shop were amazing, one of which went digging through boxes in the back for 5 minutes so they could find my size in a shirt I really wanted. Since my partner and I were there to celebrate my birthday, we decided to splurge for the bus tour so I could see the local cemeteries. Our tour guide was Lady Lex who had big theatre kid energy in the best way. She was incredibly engaging and patient with everyone who wanted to take a lot of photos. Our bus driver Robert was great as well. I was truly appreciative of Lady Alex's statement at the cemetery that while the stories are intriguing, ultimately they are about real people who lost their lives and we should respect the tragedy of that. While I love a good ghost/true crime story, I think it's important to humanize the subjects of those stories. Overall I had a fantastic time and was really thrilled to see the beautiful architecture of the Menger Hotel and local cemetery. I would definitely recommend the shop and the tour.

The city keeps doing more and more to make the space memorable, so permanent art installations, parks, and other similar features keep getting added as time goes on. If you're visiting from out of town, I can't recommend adding the River Walk to your trip enough. It's absolutely worth experiencing for yourself.

As a San Antonio native, Brian also gave us a list of his personal favorite local spots. We couldn't hit them all, but we did make it to Teka Molino for puff tacos and fajitas... and WOW. A 10/10. Truly some of the best tacos we've ever had. We'll absolutely be back for another tour -- and more tacos!

Brian made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable throughout the journey. The route was breathtaking, taking us through stunning mural routes; we saw hidden gems we would have never discovered on our own. It was a perfect balance of fantastic murals and flat terrain for all levels of riders. What truly stood out, though, was the attention to detail and the little extras that made the tour unforgettable, from riding through San Antonio's historic streets to having a sneak peek of amazing art inside Hopscotch to taking in all the visual goodness at The Pearl and let's not forget - the under-the-highway SASAI Pillars. While I attended a convention and only able to catch the last 10 minutes of viewing part of the…read moreAlamo. I was just in time to hear the story about the Alamo. Monte, our storyteller, told us this story of the Alamo, I felt as though I was there! People gathered and it was free will offering into the hat. He was better than any taped headphone set. He was very knowledgeable and gave people his time to answer plenty of questions. Monte is a must see while at the Alamo plaza! He even mentioned he has other points of interest in town to tell about...I can't wait to visit again. Monte will be on my list.

The guide never showed up. They did not answer their phones when we attempted to call to see why…read moreno one showed up. We ended up doing the standard audio tour after waiting 30 minutes past the scheduled time (after arriving 25 minutes early). I've called them several times (never returned my messages). I've emailed them for a refund (never replied). Extremely poor service. We were so excited for this tour. While it is not a large amount of money that we are out - it is the principle. Very let down.
