Best Mexican in the area. Foods always great, service friendly. Everyone's clean cut and just a good place.

My wife annd I ate there for the first time last Sunday. I felt that I should share how our dinner went. The hostess was nice and our waiter was nice. No issues there. That is really all I can say positive about our trip. Cheese dip was way too greasy and had very little chorizo in it. Guacamole, according to menu, was made to order. It was definatley not made after I ordered it. First off, it was sitting on my table less than 5 minutes after I ordered it. The avocados were brown and the guacamole had very little flavor at all. Quesadilla had onions and peppers in it even though waiter repeated back to my wife chicken and cheese only. Margarita was very weak We had one cheese dip, one order of guacamole, one quesadilla, and one margarita. Our check was $50. I have ate at ALOT of Mexican restaraunts. It is by far my favorite food to eat. I have been to Mexico 5 times and have eaten there as well. Table side guacamole is my favorite thing to eat at a Mexican restaurant period. After our visit last Sunday, I just felt that I needed to share how horrible it was. Feedback is how problems are fixed. read more

Food tasted okay. The quality of the meat and seasonings used is low and lacking. Portion is small. Wait staff provided good service, but cashier was not nice. He was bad mouthing in Spanish to his colleague about customers. Would we come back here again? No. There are other Mexican restaurants in the area and surrounding areas that are better. read more

My wife and I eat at Mexican restaurants at least two times a week. We are new to the area and are trying them out. The chips they brought first were stale and the salsa tasted like some cheap tomato sauce. So we tried the queso dip. It was runny, thin and tasteless. We all went to amigos to eat, there was 6 of us. The food was good, service was bad. The waitress tried her best to take our orders. She did not come back to fill our drinks for drinks. Randry, the gentleman that brought our food out was very argumentative with us. And also argumentative with the waitress. When she was trying to explain what was going on. He was trying to tell me that the order he was given me was my order which it was not. I don't take tomatoes and peppers on my amigos salad. He was argumented with my wife and my stepdaughter. The wakers did not come back and check on our drinks or ask. If we needed anything else, my other stepdaughter was going to order and mixed drink. The waker's never even come back to check on us till the end. And brought us our check and ask us if we needed go boxes, she brought them and then disappeared. So amigos needs to improve on their customer service. But the food was good, restaurant was clean. It wasn't packed, it wasn't overcrowded. The waitresses and waiters were not overwhelmed or anything like that if they were overwhelmed a lot of people, the place is packed. I can kind of overlook a little bit and then come back to check on us a little bit. But there was a few people in there. Like I said, it won't be overcrowded. You can talk and you didn't hear a bunch of people Like You would when it's crowded. So there was no reason for the service to be like I said. The food's great. So sad to say I'll never go back to this location. This was the third time I experienced bad service and food that was skimped out on compared to the same restaurant in Johnson city. Apparently there's a cheese shortage in Elizabethton every dish we have ordered the last few times gets lighter and lighter and when you ask they happily add a cheese dip to your bill. I ordered the Amigo salad, on the menu it states topped with our famous cheese, this salad had barely any cheese on it, compared to how they used to be teaming with cheese, is my favorite thing to get here so yes I do know what it is supposed to look like. Used to the nachos came with much more cheese than they do now, but funny there's more cheese on the dishes at the other location I go to so it's not that they are in a shortage. Now onto the service, used to in here the staff was busy and looked professional, now they just stand in the center and laugh and watch people eating, I'm sorry I don't speak the language but seeing it over and over them looking at people then laughing and looking like they are talking about them is very unprofessional. One would think they would be working hard but it looks as though here you can get a job stand around make jokes stand around and get paid. I remember when the wait staff would walk around cleaning or checking on patrons, the last few months here they simply do not. I've ran out of drinks, chips, and if I had a question about the order, it went cold waiting for someone to stop talking among themselves to come and check on us. Then when you do say something at the checkout, that doesn't work either, you get "oh sorry" and yet there's no consideration for the extra stuff you had to order to make your meal as it is described in the menu. Do yourself a favor, go to Johnson City if you want Amigos. The staff is friendlier, prompt, and the food is made as described. I'll never go through the doors in Elizabethton again. read more

This was the first time I have eaten here. My friend took me there. I am on vacation. The food was great. The tacos were filled with meat. The only thing I did not like was having to order rice as a side. The restaurants I have eaten in offered rice or beans with the 3 tacos. Best restaurant I have enjoyed for Mexican food thus far. I have eaten at Amigo for years and can say it is consistently excellent. Even on a Sunday afternoon when the place is packed to the gills the service is always quick. The food is priced well, and they have generous portions. The staff has always been friendly, even when they're running across the restaurant (which does happen when they're busy). Um ... NO. If you are looking for Mexican food in Elizabethton you'll be better off stopping at the Taco Bell nearby. I promise you it will be a much more authentic and flavorful experience than anything you'll find here at Amigo. We stopped in for lunch on a rainy Friday afternoon and found Amigo to be a pleasantly busy restaurant. It's in a strip mall, in a fairly large space, but the interior isn't much to look at. There are four rows of booths and a single row of tables. There were big flat screen TVs lining the perimeter of the room and that's pretty much it. I ordered the Lunch Special #3. It had an enchilada, and a taco, with rice and beans. I asked for beef. My dining companion ordered the Steak Fajitas. She had a sweet tea, I had a Sprite. The salsa that came with the complimentary chips was surprisingly bland. The half-bowl of chips themselves were room temperature. Every other Mexican restaurant I've been to serve them warm. Were our chips recycled from a previous table? My companion said the sweet tea was fine but my Sprite tasted strange. It was like an old dusty book had been dissolved into the liquid ... so I asked for a glass of water. The lunch combo was awful. The refried beans were edible but sorely lacking in any real flavor. The rice was an embarrassment. I may as well have had scraps of colored cardboard on my plate. The enchilada was packed full of finely ground flavorless beef, and covered with an oily red sauce-like substance. I gave up after two bites. The hard shell taco arrived on a separate plate, covered with a mountain of queso blanco. It was also packed with that same flavorless finely ground beef. I poured a bit of salsa into the taco and got about three bites in before giving up. My dining companion picked at her steak fajitas and left about ¾ on the plate. While I applaud their use of real plates, I was disappointed that we had to eat using cheap utensils obviously stamped out of a sheet of metal. I kind of like points on the tines of my fork. The service would have been better if the waiter could speak above a whisper. He seemed to be terrified to be out on the floor. When we got the bill I discovered that instead of charging us for the lunch version of the steak fajitas at $7.79, they charged us for the dinner version at $12.29. Was it an honest mistake? Incompetence? Greed? I'll never know because I'm not going back. read more

Would have given 0 if possible. We have been loyal customers for years, until today. Placed an order. Person taking order made mistake after I repeated 3 times. Called to see if restaurant would fix. They were going to charge us for the correction, we would have had to make a 2nd trip. Good customer service would have warranted the correction at no charge. We WERE frequent customers. As a generally loyal Amigo's customer, I'm leaving this review to let it be known I was a little disappointed tonight. A typical Amigo's dinner for me consists of two cheese quesadillas with a SIDE of lettuce and sour cream. The quesadillas were excellent; however, I was BEWILDERED as I glanced at my check. My SIDE of sour cream was three dollars and 40 cents. $3.40!!!!!! for a SIDE of lettuce and sour cream that they think they can charge you an absurd amount for because they title it a "sour cream SALAD". So beware, fellow Amigos lovers, do not order a SIDE of lettuce/sour cream unless you are fully prepared to pay the price. What kind of circus are they running!? read more

So, I returned after a not so impressed 1st experience and I found my calling in terms of what I really like there. The quesadilla was really meh that I will hold my ground on...not enough cheese for me. But the burritos... OMG. The first time in I was overwhelmed by the extensive menu and being part of a large party but going with just my husband and being able to ask questions without feeling like I was holding up every one else... by becoming familiar with the menu the more I've gone in. It's grown on me. It's big but it's because they have a lot of good food to offer. This is definitely our favorite local Mexican place not only for good and fast service but for the good food whether it's burritos, enchiladas, or cheese dip with chips (which is the best by far). read more
