Went Monday night. A few minutes wait for a table, booths were available. We had a new server who did his best to give excellent service. We ordered calamari and chicken parmesan as dinners. Our server brought the calamari as an appetizer then the chicken parmesan as the meal. The restaurant was out of clamshell to-go trays, so we got the foil to-go carry-out tray. The server applied the cheese as requested, and brought additional marinara and shredded parmesan cheese for the to-go box. He offered fresh bread to go which we declined. Our resort gave a coupon which we used, and really enjoyed our meal. read more

Was very disappointed, while I have always liked the food and service when I went to pay they added a service charge for using a debt card. This is one of the worst and deceptive things a restaurant can do. I know that they have to pay the credit card processor but that is a cost of doing business build the fee into your price in doing this all you are doing is upsetting your customers and result in the service staff getting a smaller tip do to such poor business decisions being made by the owners. This practice of nickel and dime the customer is a sure way of making them not come back I hope your service charge you collect is worth losing future business. read more

This little place is the real deal. True Mexican. The hot sauce has a bite and it's homemade. My husband had taco campemenchos, and he loved every bite. I had a crab quezadilla, it was very good. This was one of the best Mexican places we have been to. read more

I was craving Mexican but I'm not from this area and someone recommend the Italian place across the street but I came here instead and was glad i did! The service was fast and friendly and the beer was cold. I order a side of I got a lot of food for the money and best of all, the guacamole!!! I couldn't have made it better if I tried! The guacamole and friendly service is why they are rated 5 stars. Real pieces it avocado in it unlike most places were it's all mushed up. I ate at this location on today, and half the way through my food I discovered a deep fried spider under my Chimichanga! The owner, manager or cook didn't even bother coming to the table, they only sent the waiter to tell us we wouldn't have to pay for the meal. As if I would've paid anyway!!! I was traveling I-81 and had a severe Mexican food jones going on. I exited at Kingsport thinking that there HAD to be a decent Mexican place nearby. I saw the two previous reviews but, when there are only a limited number of reviews for an establishment, I generally take them with a grain of salt. Also, there were a lot of cars in the parking lot so I figured, "How bad can it be?" Well, the answer is, "Pretty bad." I was only slightly more impressed than the previous two reviewers so I gave them two stars rather than one. It wasn't THAT bad but it sure wasn't that good. The chips & salsa - generally the first chance that a Mexican restaurant has to dazzle you (or not) - were OK but totally uninspiring. I forget what kind of burrito I had but it included shredded beef. I was unable to find anything on the menu that wasn't covered in cheese sauce. This one had it, also. I guess it is a good thing that the sauce was watery so it slid off the burrito itself. I was glad that they give you a big bowl of salsa with your chips since I was able to drown the burrito with salsa which helped tremendously. All-in-all, edible but not that much more. The service was only marginally better. Not unfriendly but certainly not attentive. No one came by during the course of my meal to ask how it was (not sure that I would have been honest anyway). So if you find YOURself cruising up or down I-81 with a Mexican food jones, find another place. Don't be fooled by the crowded parking lot. read more

When in Kingsport I always go to this restaurant. In the past I went with a few coworkers and ordered a drink or two. I always remembered the food to be pretty great! I went last night with another coworker and bragged about this place. Well, sadly, without the alcohol it wasn't the same. Lol. I had the rojo chicken and a beef taco. While the chicken was cooked okay, it didn't have much flavor and the beef taco tasted bland. Now, all this was fixed by added hot sauce and salsa but I think the taste should stand out on its own and not be masked by condiments. The service and atmosphere has changed a lot too. This change was for the better no more weird neon interior mood lighting. It's now bright and very VERY clean looking. The service staff seemed to be attentive and friendly when you had questions. Overall a honest 2/5. read more

Poor service. Waited 10 minutes for someone to ring me up for a carry out order because the cashier was sitting at the bar eating girl scout cookies. When she did arrive she was short with me and mildly rude. When I got home I found the order was wrong, this was after the initial call in where she repeated the order back to me twice. The positive side, it was clean, the waitress was very sweet, the prices were right & the food came out quick. My dining partners thought that the margarita was good & the $4 32oz beer was nice & cold. The salsa was good too. It might have been homemade but I wouldn't bet a nut on it. Now for the letdown; the food. I had a combo plate, #21, consisting of a taco, chili relleno & tamal. Everybody thought I was being sophisticated when I asked what the chili was stuffed w/? I was told hamburger. This is what I got; roughly 10% of a poblano pepper, & I mean just a sliver, covered w/ browned ground beef & cheeze. The taco was as almost w/o flavor. Ground beef in a soft corn torilla (which I am sure was not homemade) a pinch of nondescript white cheeze & lettuce. The tamal, I was told was made the prior evening. I assumed the waitress meant handmade the day before so I threw caution to the wind. I believe what she meant was that the can was opened, the tamale was removed & plated w/ a crumble of ground beef & a smear of salsa rojo & heated the evening before, covered, placed in the refer overnight & served to me now after a brief exposure to microwave rays. There was nothing redeeming about the orange rice & the frijoles referrito was heated up right out of the can. This place is right up the alley for a person who hasn't had real mexican cooking. Kind of a dis-service to those Mexican guys & gals who put their heart into their cooking. This place isn't it. read more

Once upon a time, like fifteen years ago, this place was awesome. Not anymore. I ordered the "Chile Relleno" and got a pile of refried beans with a 1"x1" cut square of green bell pepper in the middle of it. Oh yeah, there may have been some cheese too, not sure because I was anxious to ask my waiter where the Chile Relleno was. He said that was it, that they don't stock poblano or anaheim peppers anymore. If that's the case then why is it on the menu? That is not a Chile Relleno and La Carreta is not worth the effort it takes to drive there. There are much better selections in the Tri-Cities areas. I would rank Taco Bell above this place. Do yourself a favor and heat up a microwave burrito instead of going here. read more

They put my hard shell taco into another hard shell taco because it was broken. They could've easily made another taco. Our waitress brought our check three times laying it on the table and then asking if we needed anything else and the last time she just set our check down and walked off. The special la casa is great and I love the rice with cheese sauce on top. Everything is always fresh and hot when I've gone. Top notch service! Food is more Tex-Mex than traditional mexican cuisine but is still great. We dine here at least once a week. They have a varied menu and everything is usually really fresh. Pico de Gallo is some of the best I've ever eaten. read more
