I ordered takeout today and it was incredibly disappointing. (frankly for $30 I am NOT HAPPY!) I got a steak quesadilla and a spinach one with a side of beans, and the quality was just NOT unacceptable but UNEDIBLE. The steak pieces were -tough, chewy, and looked like scraps from the grill. Inedible, oh and y need a toothpick to pick out that horrible meat. There was no cheese, only meat scraps, making it even more unsatisfying. The spinach on the other one was hardly recognizable; it was mostly mushrooms and onions, with only a faint hint of green. Again, where's the cheese? NONE TO BE SEEN. I called the manager to discuss my concerns, but I was dismissed with the comment, "everyone makes mistakes!" Instead of receiving any acknowledgment of the poor quality, I was told to either return for a replacement or make the effort to come back for a refund. This is not how a business should ever operate. I shouldn't have to return to a restaurant that failed to deliver a satisfactory meal. The steak was gristly, tasteless, and evidently old. Spending $30 for this was a WASTE of my earned money. The manager's tone suggested that it was my fault for choosing their establishment, which is entirely inappropriate. There are numerous excellent Hispanic restaurants in the area, and quite frankly, I regret not trying one of them instead. Amigo's should not be your go-to place; this experience was beyond disappointing. read more

Haven't been here in years as not a fan of plain "Americanized" Mexican. Oh how they have changed their game on cuisine. The "traditional" quesadilla was off the hook good. Full flavored and I am absolutely stuffed . Combo of the spicy chorizo, well seasoned shredded chicken, grilled veggies topped with the sweet mango pineapple chutney really brought this home for me. Stopped into this place by chance. We found it to be very clean & comfortable. We were greeted warmly & seated quickly. Staff were fast and attentive. Good afternoon , Tuesday 8-26-25 around noon. My wife, myself and my trained Service Dog, Flash, were denied entry to the the Amigo Mexican Restaurant, 3211 Peoples Street #70 in Johnson City. We were physically blocked from entering the front door. The person blocking us repeatedly stated, "No dogs." I responded, "You can't say, "No." That is a violation of Federal law." The person remained, blocking our entry. I asked him what his name was and he replied, "That's none of your business." I looked around and I saw people inside and outside the restaurant had stopped and were watching what was going on. I felt embarrassed and humiliated. The three of us left. I was medically and honorably retired after an almost twenty year career as a street cop and detective for a Large California Police Department. I was diagnosed with Cumulative PTSD and severe depression. I don't understand yet why, but looking at the gathering crowd looking at me, and being unlawfully denied entry, triggered something inside me. I can't express, I don't have the words, to describe what it feels like to be in crises. Flash and I trained together twice a week, over the course of a year, with fourteen other people and dogs in the same boat. after an almost twenty year career as a street cop and detective for a Large California Police Department. It's what you expect as far as Mexican food goes in this area. I always get queso as it's my favorite part to go with the chips and to pour over any main entree I get. Today, I got one of their lunch specials, nothing special in terms of flavor (but it was good!). They give you a ton of food though! I always have plenty to take home and their servers are always the nicest!! I took family here that had never been and they automatically began talking about coming back to show other family members so I'd say they enjoyed it! read more

I ordered the Amigo Salad to go. I looked online and it said onions, peppers and mushrooms. When I opened it, it was loaded with tomatoes. I'm allergic so I called and the guy that answered was so rude and said well, it comes with tomatoes. It clearly does not say tomatoes on the menu online. He wouldn't give me a credit or even offer to make me a new meal. I'm angrier at the fact they didn't try to accommodate me and I have a meal that I paid for that I can't eat! We really need a crazy good authentic Mexican restaurant in this area (on top of a couple already around off the top of my head). Unfortunately Amigos isn't on that list, nor does it have to. It caters to mainstream, and that they do extremely well. Taking Mexican dishes, and making them Americanized but not "too" Americanized. I came in on an afternoon because I was in that shopping plaza doing Christmas shopping, and Mexican sounded good. Actually let me clarify. A 32oz draft beer sounded good (after being around all these holiday shoppers), and it just so happened that I wanted food too. Ordered the Lunch Special #7. It was a chicken chimichanga, a tamale, and something else I forgot.. with lettuce/veggies in a creamy sauce with mango and pineapple.... sauce again?? Portion is HUGE for the price... which reminded me that Mexican restaurants really like to feed you. For cheap. I can't recall ever being able to finish a meal at a Mexican restaurant. Ever. I can and do however always finish my beer. Flavors were standard. And that's not a bad thing. Perfectly palatable and even enjoyed... but not something that you consume and wonder if you'd just died and gone to heaven. Unless you just got out of prison, and this is your first visit. In that case then yeah, you'd think it's the greatest thing ever! 3 stars but additional one because the staff are cool. Gentleman who waited on me checked up on my on numerous occasions and was very polite and friendly. There are thousands of restaurants, all offering a type of food that may or may not resemble the other 1000. Chile relleno was not what I am used to. It was stuffed with some kind of meat sauce. Not breaded or fried. The taco shell was of the hard, crunchy boxed variety but had plenty of meat and white cheese. Not sure if the beans are canned or fresh cooked chips and salsa was good. They give you plenty to eat. I'll have to go back to El Paso or Las cruces if I want Mexican food I like read more

The food is very good. I'm usually not a fan of refried beans but I always order a dish of theirs if it doesn't come with the meal,

The cheese dip is phenomenal and the grilled burrito, chimichanga, and several other items are our go to favorites!

Service was super quick and friendly. The chips and salsa were pretty tasty, although the chips weren't as fresh crispy as I would have expected. It did not stop me from eating the basket, however. I ordered the a vegetarian option that was super spicy, but it didn't knock my socks off. I enjoy heat, but I want complex flavors as well. The restaurant was super busy while I was there and it looked like a lot of repeat customers. Should I get back to the area, I will definitely give it another go, ordering something different. read more

I admit that I often find Mexican food to be a bit......ordinary. I eat Mexican food in Mexico and it is...ordinary. There is a degree of sameness about it that I find...ordinary. It's not my favourite cuisine. Once, perhaps, I may have described it as Pal-ish. But, over the years, I have become a much more sophisit..sofistoca..sufis-tik-ated gourmand and now I don't call it Pal any more. I was convinced to go to Amigos by my insistant partner. "Not hungry" said I. "I'll get something later".... ........So, I had a taco, encillada, beans, (of course you had beans it's a bloody Mexican restaurant) and a salad...with a side of fried fresh jalapenos and it was....... BLOODY FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!! Yay for the Mexicans. Donald Frump is wrong. The waiters were efficient, friendly, happy, busy, and the place was neat and clean and noisy, in a very Latino way. We ate a hearty meal for a total of less than $20. Bargain!! Go there...especially if you are a Mex food sceptic. You will thoroughly enjoy it. Guaranteed! read more

If I could rate negative star I would... .Salsa tasted like watered down.chilli flavored tomotoe sauce. Got a Taco Salad which I thought was hard to.go wrong. Although was wrong. Not enough to cheese to eat three bites, so much sour cream and lettuce that was abusrd. Shell was cold and tasted old. Meat was cold. Prices also more expensive than La Careeta and food quailty was way below par. Will never eat here again. Every time we order carry-out, we get home to find we've been shorted on portions. If you've paid for their high priced Abuelas' guacamole, you expect more than a tablespoon's worthy. Buyer beware. We had eaten here a few years ago. Not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but we like the outdoor seating. Yesterday, while going to visit our daughter at ETSU, we decided to stop by amigos for an early dinner. After we had finished eating I asked the waiter if we could have two to go boxes for our leftovers. He said sure and went back inside to get them. He comes back out a few moments later and tells us they don't have any extras because of the to-go orders and suggests we stuff our food in a to-go cup. Mind you, we were seated outside and have seen many cars go thru the pick up window and being handed to-go boxes. I asked if I could just have one instead of two. He says he will go inside and ask as he lays our tab on the table. I'm not even exaggerating when I say 45 minutes later and several sneaky peeks at us through the window from our red headed waiter.... We are STILL waiting. At this point I don't even want the to-go box because my food is covered in flies. I just want to pay and leave. I even waved the tab with my debit card upon one of his peeks at us thru the window trying to get his attention. I swear he took off like I was trying to serve him court papers. My husband finally says we can't wait any longer and he goes in to pay. He is gone so long that I got fidgety and started to stack our plates n clean up our mess. We are messy eaters. One of the bus girls comes out and tells me NO NO and takes the plates away. FINALLY my husband emerges and tells me no one wanted to take his payment! The red haired boy who waited on us took one look at him and hid in the back. Thankfully, my husband was able to get someone to take our payment after a second trip in. I'd personally recommend just skipping this place and finding another place to eat. The food is meh. It's definitely not authentic Mexican but will do in a pinch. But the service is what really ruins it. All I asked for was a take home box. I'm really quite confused why we were treated the way we were. No one yelled. No one was angry. And I know they had boxes. And why did no one want to take our payment? Very weird and uncomfortable dining experience. Been to many Mexican restaurants all over and Amigo's has always been remained my favorite. The food is delicious and unlike most places who are stingy, they give you plenty of cheese dip on the "Pollo Loco" which is their most popular dish (known as Arroz con Pollo in other places).
