First time visiting Poblanos and I'll definitely be back. After only finding mediocre Mexican food in the area, I was on a hunt. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance and decor are nice inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For a unique spin, you're served a bean dip with the chips after being seated. The dip had a great flavor. I missed having salsa however and it wasn't until I asked that I learned there's a salsa bar next to the host stand. There they have both traditional red salsa and salsa verde. I preferred the salsa verde and the red was pretty thin. I ordered a hibiscus margarita to drink. They don't give you the margarita menu unless asked, but have a pretty good list. I didn't know at the time of ordering there's an up charge of $1.50 for a flavored margarita. I likely would have ordered it anyway, but would have been nice to know. For my entree, I did a combination of 2 with the enchilada suiza and burrito. Both were very good and I'd order them again. You also pick 2 sides. I went with the black beans as my bean choice. Nothing wrong with them, just ok in flavor and after also having bean dip, I didn't really eat them. I'm used to traditional Mexican rice but saw they had cotija Mashed potatoes. I'm a fan of contija cheese so wanted to try them, even though the server didn't really seem too impressed when I asked her about them. They were actually very good. The inside is neutral tones of light colored brick. The music playing in the background was folksy American music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Immediately upon sitting down, we were brought free chips and salsa. The chips were warm and fresh tasting. Then within another minute, the hostess (Hayley-hope I spelled it right) came over and said our waitress was tied up temporarily and the hostess took our drink order which was super nice (and efficient). The menu has plenty of food and drink options: tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, burritos, salads, quesadillas and more. The waitress (bartender) came to the table and took our order. She didn't write anything down but she got the order right and it was absolutely delicious food. She has clearly been in the food industry a long time because she is friendly and knows what she is doing. I had a question about the cheese and wanted to know if it was shredded or in liquid form. She knew the answer! I can't tell you how many servers at other places who do not know the answer. The food was fresh tasting; the chicken enchilada was absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned. Always great service! We typically sit at the bar and split fajitas with a top shelf pitcher (best deal by far if there will be more than two margs ordered overall). Only reason it's not a 5star is that I do enjoy a salsa bar and being able to create my concoctions; love that creamy jalapeño/cilantro dip that some other joints have in the area. read more

Enjoyed an early dinner with my adult son and were delighted with our server, she was definitely a professional but the food was unimpressive with both of us noting it was bland and lacked any wow. My fajitas came to the table quiet, no sizzling and unevenly prepared with big chunks of uncut onions and peppers. His fried chimichangas were excellent albeit not being really crunchy. I'll admit that I'm not a fan of the bean dip with chips as the complimentary offering and much prefer the traditional salsa. We come into town to visit our friends 3- times per year. The bar staff has been there for several years. They were training new staff when we were back in town a few weeks ago. DOGFOOD - DON'T EAT HERE To start off, when you come into a restaurant that says, "Please wait to be seated." You expect to be greeted in a reasonable time. I think reasonable is 5 mins or less. I had a pick up order and I waited just over 5 mins without a soul at their post. When the young man walked up, he immediately ignored me and greeted someone that walked in after me and assumed the other person was first. Fortunately, the man after me waiting with me acknowledged to the host that I was their first. We ordered Chile Relleno. When we got home and opened the bag, (5 min drive), the food was cold, it was unsalted, and rather flavorless. Very authentic Mexican food and grill! We visited on a Monday evening for dinner. They have a small salsa bar and all the salsas are good. They bring you complimentary chips and beans to start with and Fresh guacamole made at your table to go with your chips and salsa!! We ordered the Chicken Pollo Which was chicked strips covered in queso with beans and rice Enchiladas, quesadillas and their chimichangas Everything was fantastic All in all the food was very good, the decor was very authentic and it was clean. My wife and I went to Poblano's recently and were very pleased. Most Tex-Mex places in the area do not offer soup or salad. This place offers 2 soups! Perfect for a cold, rainy evening. We had the Puchero. It was delicious and HUGE. Potatoes, zucchini, a mini corn cob, pulled white meat chicken....and very hot! Our server was taller and wore glasses. She was delightful as well. My wife had the mezcal based Roasted Cadillac. It was strong and tasty. We ordered the Abuela's guac - it's chunky and heavy on to tomatoes and avo. We also tried the puffy carnitas tacos. Very yummy. The restaurant is fairly new and was very clean. The only nitpick is the menus seem to be fading in places and the white dishes we were served our food on were chipped and scratched up for such a newer place. Other than that...we both think we found a great new Tex-Mex spot! We will definitely be back! read more

Walked in and noticed they need a greeter for the register and or for the seating. We waited a few minutes. Noticed the salsa bar only had three options which were better than the black bean dip. We ordered a margarita and a Modelo. the barbacoa tacos were great but my carne asada was over cooked and some what dry. The only thing I enjoyed was the salad and a few bites of rice. Unfortunately I noticed they didn't have any seafood so I had to go with the carne asada. Although it wasn't as great as we'd hoped. We may eat here again. My husband, daughter, and I just came and ate here for the very first time this evening and as you can see from my five star review it was very good. Our server was absolutely amazing. I believe her name is Cat/Kat... sorry not sure of the spelling. I had the puffy tacos, which I absolutely loved, and they are made of a Massa so they are thicker than a typical tortilla, crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. I had the Carnitas and they also put in pico de gallo, Cotija cheese and sour cream, and they truly were very tasty. You get two of them with your choice of two sides and they were plenty enough food for me which is not something I say all the time. I did choose the french fries and the plantains which I am not a huge fan of plantains, but I did try them and they also came out with a condensed milk, dipping sauce, which made them so good and it truly tasted like a dessert. My husband had the Carnitas platter and it is something that he gets at every Mexican restaurant he goes to and he was very impressed with the tenderness of the meat and the tastiness of the sauce. It did have a little bit of a kick to it but it wasn't over the top. He let me try it, and I was able to handle it without a problem, and I consider myself somewhat of a wimp when it comes to spicy food. My daughter had the burger and fries from the kids menu and she said it was very tasty and I was pretty impressed with a Buc and they use a very good quality hamburger bun. The french fries are definitely frozen and not the best quality although they weren't bad but I'm not going to rate it on french fries at a Mexican restaurant. I just was craving french fries so I ordered them. The atmosphere is very nice. It's a very large restaurant with a lot of tables and a lot of weight staff, which made it nice. Everybody there seem to be very friendly and we got sat right away on a Friday evening, which was a plus for us... If you are thinking about giving this place a Tri I would definitely recommend it. They seem to have a pretty extensive menu so I'm sure there's something for everyone... We will definitely be coming back, and I will definitely be getting the puffy tacos again. read more

Food didn't live up to the hype. The bean dip was great. The refried beans we very unexpectedly pale and bland. Rice was great. We had the chicken fajitas. Big skillet of expected onions and green peppers, however, there were not very many pieces of chicken for the 3 small tortillas. The only thing chicken flavor was really nil except for the flavor imparted by the saluted veggies ... A little cilantro, cumin... Salt... Pepper... A squeeze of lime even. But the table side guacamole that wasn't made tableside for just under $10 was really what turned us off... Looked fresh, but loaded with so much salt, oh my gosh. Wasn't able to eat it. I ordered the sampler platter. It consists of ribs, wings, taquitos, and queso dip. I also ordered a mojito to drink. First of all, the ribs were old, cold, dry, hard, and had been microwaved several times. I couldn't bit into to them. The wings were bad too, no flavor and dry. Next the taquitos, the beef was supposed to be shredded, instead the meat was so clumped together that it all came in one bite. I gagged and thought I would choke. The queso dip was okay, but tor $15.99, I expected better quality food. Lastly, the mojito alcohol drink. It was purely soda and lime, no alcohol, served in a small glass. It cost $4.50 at half off, originally $9.00. That was an expensive soda. I should've ordered a soda, at least it would have been served in a larger glass. read more

We ate dinner here after driving from the DC area to Watauga Lake. It was perfect. The most striking thing is the festive decor which is really colorful and bright. The restaurant was very busy and seems to be a local favorite. The staff got us seated and served quickly. The menu selection was good and the food was well prepared. The prices were very reasonable.
