I've always enjoyed coming to Amigo Taqueria, and their food is usually really good, which is why this visit was so disappointing. My family and I arrived about 30 minutes before closing, and when I asked to order fries, I was told they couldn't make them because the fryer had already been turned off--even though they were still open for another half hour. We were planning to order additional food, but it felt like they were already shutting down and weren't willing to accommodate customers who arrived during business hours. To make matters worse, they were also out of guacamole, which was surprising for a Mexican restaurant. On top of that, the cashier came across as rude and didn't seem interested in helping. I understand that employees want to wrap things up before closing, but if the restaurant is still open, customers should be able to order from the available menu until closing time. I'll definitely come back because I enjoy the food, but I hope they improve their customer service and avoid shutting down the kitchen so early. read more

Don't let the area dissuade you, go inside. This place is very well managed, everything is nicely cleaned and bright. The tacos were amazing. I got the cheek, tongue, and Al pastor, none of which tasted dried out like they can from many taco joints. The flavors were all well balanced and cut perfectly by the cilantro, lime, and onion. Had a great snack after stoping by Amigo Taqueria food truck. They were in the Laurel Park neighborhood for our neighborhood day. Due to this being a rain date there were not as many vendors as expected. Nonetheless we enjoyed $2 soft tacos. Filled with steak or chicken lettuce, cheese, cilantro (onions) and salsa to add. This is hands down one of my favorite Mexican Restaurant! While I have never dinned in Amigo Taqueria, so I can't explain at the atmosphere of the restaurant. I have ordered Doordash from Amigo Taqueria numerous times and failed to take pictures every time. Lol. Their food is amazing and extremely fresh. I have tried the breakfast burrito, cubana, torta, and carnitas dinner plater. They load you with soooo much protein and it's soo juicy and flavorful. Their carnitas with the fried pork tips are extremely tender and it just melts in your mouth. Their portion size are also HUGE! Staff was good/nice, food was not. In fact it was horrible .. and expensive too. We both ordered a plate of three taquitos with rice and beans. The taquitos were totally burnt on both sides - I have never had that happen anywhere in all of the Mexican restaurants I have eaten at. The rice was cold and tasted like it was made the day before. The black beans tasted canned. The tortilla chips tasted like something out of Food Lion's stock. The salsa was meh, didn't taste homemade. I have no idea why people like this place. Found this place which is listed everywhere as Taco Express and recently re-opened under a new name. Staff was real nice and this place is the real deal. Real authentic mexican and gigantic portions. Being from San Diego this place reminded me of home. I got the campechano quesadilla and it was enough for two people. Friends got tacos and also loved them. Their hot sauces are also clearly home made and both the salsa verde and hot sauce were awesome. I wish I lived closer, id be eating here alot and its definitely going to be the choice for any trip to Charlotte from Raleigh. read more

My experience has been anytime there's a smaller Mexican restaurant it's probably pretty good. This is no exception! As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted with a warm, genuine smile from the staff. They are very friendly. It has a quaint, authentic feel. My son prides himself as a Mexican cuisine foodie of sorts. He had 3 tacos - shrimp, al pastor, and carne asada. He said they were definitely in the top three with the shrimp being the best he's had. Pretty impressive! I had the chicken enchiladas. Finally, I found a place that seasons the chicken in this dish. While the Salsa Verde wasn't the spiciest I've had, the overall dish was very flavorful. The beans were actually re-fried and not a puree mess. The chips were fresh and the avocado salsa had the perfect spice. This was an overall successful trip to this local spot in Kannapolis. We highly recommend this restaurant and will be back for more! read more

There are quite a few Mexican restaurants in Kannapolis/ Concord that are good but this is the most authentic one! I have been coming here for 3 years now and have ultimately decided that they have the best authentic tacos in Kannapolis/ Concord. The owners of Amigo Taqueria are actually the same owners of El Amigo which, is located a block away by Food Lion. I personally feel that Amigo Taqueria serves better food than El Amigo. If you are Latino or have had homemade Mexican food you very clearly tell the difference between something that was made fresh and with love vs. something that was reheated in the microwave. That is the clear difference to me between visiting their smaller restaurant compared to the larger, busier one. Due to the pandemic Amigo Taqueria has had to adjust their hours to only breakfast/ lunch as well as raise their prices but, I would still rather eat a taco from here compared to any other taco spot I've ate in my 11 years of living in North Carolina. read more

I have to agree with the other reviewers. There is nothing fancy about this spot but the food is absolutely delicious. I came for tacos and was not disappointed. I tried my two favorites which are carne asada and al pastor. They were on house-made tortilla shells. The queso fundido was also divine. I would go on Tuesday as that's Taco Tuesday so all tacos no matter the meat are $1.50 each. This spot is a must try and is clearly not getting the attention it deserves. I had a taco craving since I woke up this morning and worried that because it is December 24th I might have a hard time finding a place open for business. I called ahead and sure entry were open. I ordered two Al Pastor tacos and two carnitas tacos with a side of beans. First off, the tortillas were fantastic. Either someone is back there pressing tortillas from scratch or the have a fabulous source for tortillas. The beans were exactly how I like them; retried and creamy with a few whole beans. The tacos were good but I have to admit, every time I order Al Pastor tacos in the U.S., I'm always a little disappointed. I would love to see it cooking on a vertical spit with the pineapple skewered in top and the cook slicing it off with those big knives like they do in Mexico. Regardless, they were still really good. As far as the carnitas tacos, I couldn't tell you because what I'm pretty sure I got were chorizo tacos wHich I like too. The salsas were nice too. Great place to try. read more

Best Mexican food I've had since moving to the East coast! The tacos are incredible, the chicken nachos are insane, and the green enchiladas are to die for. If you want REAL Mexican food, barbacoa, al pastor, carnitas and asada with homemade tortillas, beans and rice then get down here and eat! Well, it's official, I have just found the perfect taco! I got delivery today via Postmate and I am so happy I've found this place. I got two beef tacos and I asked for the lettuce and sour cream, and I wasn't prepared for how beautiful these tacos were. You can tell the tortillas are homemade, as they were soft and fluffy. The beef was cooked perfectly, very tender. They also put that soft crumbly cheese on top (I think queso fresco). Then there was just enough lettuce and creamy sour cream. I was in love after the first bite. They also included two sauces, green and red. Let me tell you what, that green sauce was AMAZING. I also tasted the red which was a bit hotter and tasty as well. I got a side of guacamole and it too was fresh and homemade, with nice chunks of avocado, tomato and cilantro. And they included a bag of chips. So glad I saw the great reviews for this place.
