OK......it's now Friday and YES.....we came back to Amimoto Sushi restaurant ..... twice in one week !!!! . We enjoyed it so much earlier this week. This time, I changed my order up. I asked for my Okinawa salmon roll but added a twist and they accommodated my request. I asked for 50/50 salmon and Hamachi (yellowtail tuna). For a $2.00 up charge, I was all in. No spicy mayo for me but the eel sauce complimented the sushi very well. Maria was our server this time and what a delightful young lady. Such a nice pleasant smile and welcoming personality. Talked a little more with our Sushi Chef.... Nick. He speaks more English than we thought last time. Very friendly. Again, maybe not next week but we will be back to have sushi at Amimoto's. We stopped in to Amimoto after a visit to Port Charlotte and really liked it. The restaurant had a typical sushi restaurant vibe but the staff was very welcoming and attentive. We sat at the sushi bar I was greeted with a smile. They brought out a spicy tuna wonton appetizer, compliments of the chef. We loved the crispy rice and spicy tuna appetizer. We ordered the salmon, escalar, and octopus sushi and really liked it. We also ordered the Okinawa roll. It had good flavor but something was off with the Cucumber. It was fresh and tasted okay, but it was cut thick and with the skin on and it just didn't pair well with the delicate sushi roll. The food was delicious. I was impressed with their list of sushi and other foods. We couldn't decide on one thing so we tried a lot of items. The Pad Thai was one of my favorites of the night. I have tried a lot of Pad Thai at different restaurants and this was one of my favorites. We also ordered several sushi rolls that were a good size and flavorful. We had the Godzilla, Samurai, and Niji. I liked all three but I think the Samurai was my favorite. My sister in law had the Sumo and loved it. Omakase! My date and I decided we wanted sushi for dinner, so we went to Amimoto, where I had eaten lunch several times. The place was empty. So, we asked the manager if we could do Omakase. He conferred with the chef and gave a positive answer. We sat at the counter, and the experience began. The meal was phenomenal. We were served 16 pieces of sushi, all of which looked like pieces of art and tasted exquisite, nothing like the on-menu offerings. Amimoto comes very close to the Michelin-cited sushi restaurants at which I have eaten. The meal wasn't cheap at $350 for two, but it was in line with what I have paid for Omakase at top tables and completely worth it. I am sure that they can't do this on a busy night, but one can always call and find out. read more

Food is great! I have only carried out and last night I did delivery via Instacart app which engages Uber Eats. It all was very timely. The app and driver- 5 stars. Restaurant 4.5 stars. It was a bummer that they did read NEARLY ALL the instructions. We did ask for 2 sides of eel sauce and we did not get any chop sticks with our meal. I started with a bowl of Tom Kha Gai soup that was of the best I have ever had... husband started with a crab & avocado salad that was also wonderful. Hidden away in a corner of a strip center, it was a pleasant surprise to walk in the door and find a very nice and comfy, clean restaurant. Ambience is great, but could be helped with some nice quiet Japanese music in the background. The food was fantastic. While I was in the Air Force, I spent 3 years in Japan and I was glad to see they had Yaki Soba on the menu which was very good. It came with 2 pieces of fried Gyoza (dumplings), also excellent and a bowl of the best miso soup I've ever had. Sushi looked great, but saved for next visit. Service was fast and friendly. The Takoyaki (squid balls) were a very tasty with a serving of 5 on a plate of bread crunchies and carrot slivers to complement the softer texture of the Takoyaki. You can tell the moment you walk in that the Sushi Chef is there to provide us with a great experience. This restaurant is the epitome of supply and demand. Nestled in the middle of Port Charlotte, Amimoto is probably the only Japanese Restaurant around. Because of this, everything is crazy expensive...and I mean crazy expensive. Don't say I didn't warn you. Amimoto is very similar to any other Japanese Restaurant you'd find in any other city. The menu has it's regular range of sashimi, rolls, dinner dishes, and what not. To me, it was pretty ordinary. The sushi itself was pretty fresh, so I don't have many complaints. I ordered the Udon noodles with an Alaskan roll. The Udon noodles were pretty plain and simple. Nothing made them too special, but it wasn't too bad either. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with the side of soup and salad like the other entrees. The service was fine. There were times when the server didn't understand what was on the menu and exactly what we ordered. Even with the slight language barrier, I found our server to be quite helpful. However, the food took FOREVER to come out. If you're thinking about grabbing a quick bite to eat, then think again. This takes place takes forever...like forever forever. We literally waited outside the restaurant for it to open and were the first ones in there. Even though we took these precautions, it still took over 45 minutes to get our food out. Although we had several mishaps, the one thing that will move this location from a three star review to a two star review is that they wanted to charge us $5 to share a dish...Let me repeat that: $5 to share a dish. Is that a joke? Already overpriced sushi and you still have the nerve to ask for $5 for an extra plate? Yeah, I'm out. tl;dr - Desperate for some Japanese food near Port Charlotte? I called the restaurant and asked if I could take out and they said that if they weren't too busy yes . I drove there to get a menu and planned on going the next day . I decide to show up when they opened so I could get in my order . I got there right when they opened , they took my order . I was the 1st order in the restaurant. There was only 2 other tables . OK... I read the reviews about how crowded it gets, and there's only one sushi chef, and it takes a long time to get served.... so, I went on a Thursday. A Thursday in early September when it was 90 out - and there's no snowbirds coming down to Florida. And.... I sat at the sushi bar and was the only one there. I got served immediately with fresh sushi prepared with pride. I had a nice conversation with the sushi chef who has been doing this 20 years and takes quality over speed. I tried spicy tuna nigiri, unagi, and a couple of rolls. All the ingredients where fresh. The waitress checked a couple times to make sure I was fine. I'd never had spicy tuna nigiri and it was a treat. Prices were on the low side from my experience for this kind of food - of course I live in a much more populated and expensive area of the country.
