The food is always very good, but I would never recommend eating in. Every time I have gone in there, the service has always been horrible- terribly rude, inattentive, and slow (even if there is only one or two other tables sat in the building and the servers are all sitting at a table chatting). We went in most recently to use a Hooked deal and were told after we had finished our meal that the deal was for carry out only even though this is stated no where on the deal in the app. Honestly they have some of the best Indian food in town, but I don't really want to continue to support a business that treats their dine in clients so badly. read more

I came here for the lunch buffet, which was on the smaller side. The food was good - pretty standard, but good. The stand-out part of eating at Amrit is the service - I was welcomed as soon as I came in, the server kept my water glass full, and I never felt rushed to leave. I noticed that the server provided the same service to all of his tables, which is an art that I can certainly appreciate. My boyfriend and I are new to Bloomington and we were getting pretty hungry so we gave this place a chance. The food was excellent! The next time we went out for dinner we tried to go somewhere new but there delicous plates were still lingering on our tongues so we returned. I would definitely recommend there chicken tikki masala and there vegetable biryani was pretty yummy too. We get it at a mild level all the time at both Taste of India and India Garden and its always flavorful. We arrived around 6PM on a Friday, got seated immediately and experienced a wonderful Indian meal of keema naan, chicken tiki massala and paleek paneer served with rice. Disappointing. I used to come here all the time with my sister, so much that the waiters know us. We recently noticed that the quality of the buffet has been falling but we decided to give it one last shot today. Big mistake. Every meat dish had bones throughout, they had frozen fish sticks that they thawed and then deep fried, and were missing standard dishes. While paying I mentioned to the waiter how the quality had gotten so much worse, and that my sister almost choked on a bone hidden in the curry. He responded with, "Yeah. Okay." I came here for a late lunch with my fiancé and we were extremely pleased by their food! We ordered the butter chicken to share with the chicken 65 appetizer. The chicken 65 was a delicious combination of mustard seed, curry leaves and spice. We ordered it hot and definitely could've handled a higher level. For the butter chicken, we ordered that medium but also definitely will be ordering it spicier next time. They refilled our rice for free which was a very positive addition to our experience. I have never tried Indian food before coming to Amrit and now I am hooked! I have tried other Indian restaurants in Bloomington since then and I have been disappointed. I don't like spicy food, but level 2 is just right on the spicyness scale. It's just spicy enough to give it flavor. You should order a higher level if you are looking for something very spicy. All of their entrees are good but my favorite is Mixed Vegetables. I'm looking forward to trying more of their entrees! read more

I came in during two different times, the first for dinner in which I ordered from the menu. I remember being served the incorrect menu item despite clearly articulating three times what exactly I wanted. They made it right and the food was better than any other currently existing Indian restaurant in Bloomington, but I ordered only three items and it got quite expensive, definitely pricier than the other two in town. Before creating a review, I decided to evaluate the restaurant all-around, by checking out the lunch buffet thoroughly. Most of the food had no flavor whatsoever, the tandoori chicken tasted as if it was not even marinated (clearly yogurt wasn't used), only colored red and very lightly salted. The gobi aloo was the most flavorful item, but it had a mushy consistency. Overall, I would say that many corners are clearly cut on the buffet. The price is not bad to get filled up, but certainly not particularly tasty or even good Indian food. I will say the naan was very flakey and well-done as well as most items well-cooked. I do miss Bombay Café a lot as its Indian food was by far the most authentic in town and easily the tastiest, but maybe once in a very rare while I will come back and order off the menu, when I feel like splurging as the food off-menu was above average. I will likely however not return for the buffet. I have not had the other two buffets in town, but there simply must be better to be had in this great food town. The buffet is very tasty with a good variety of options. I would give it 4 stars if it weren't for our hostess giving the impression that she was more preoccupied with maintaining her phone conversation than making sure the buffet was replenished. I was there towards the end of the lunch period but many of the dishes were looking crusty and like they were ready for the dishwasher. The best Indian food in Bloomington by far!

I can't speak to the quality of this restaurant for dining in, but I ordered through Hoosierfoods and had a meh experience overall. First of all, it was pretty pricey - $30 for two $10 entrees (no extras), partly due to the delivery fee. Amrit doesn't offer delivery themselves, so the fee is unavoidable. I figured we would get plenty of food to make it worth it. Unfortunately, the butter chicken (which was just ok) was mostly sauce. The Baingan Bhartha was pretty good and much more plentiful. The plain naan was good. I will probably stick with the Indian lunch buffets around town in the future. read more

Amrit has the potential to be the best Indian food in town. However, as a longtime customer, their food--both in terms of overall quality and levels of spiciness--is extremely inconsistent. Half the time, their food is perfect. However, a "1" on the spiciness level can result in anything between a flavorless dish and something that tastes like a "6" (their highest level of spiciness)--even according to my boyfriend, who's a lover of all things hot. First off, I love all of the Indian lunch buffets in town: India garden, taste of India etc. But Amrit sticks out for its killer variety in the buffet. Today there's a total of five different chicken dishes, galab jaman. Mango lassi, excellent saag with lots of spinach, soup and all the rest. This place is Bang Bang. I used to work at an Indian restaurant, and I have been to many of them across the Midwest and South. I can say with assurance that Amrit is up there with the best of em'. I often times find myself venturing in for the lunch buffet, because for only $8.99 it will leave your taste buds, stomache, and wallet feeling very pleased. The lunch buffet offers a wide array of traditional Indian dishes, which includes a good selection of vegan options - which is great for you non-carnivorous folks like myself (for the most part). Their pakoras are always crisp, not soft or soggy like many indian restaurants I've been to. The curry dishes are always very flavorful and consistent, and the channa masala (chickpea dish) is very authentic and one of my personal faves. So if you're looking for a good, authentic indian restaurant in the Bloomington area - congratulations, you've found it. read more

The atmosphere is definitely a lot nicer since they remodeled the inside. My co-worker and I ordered the lunch buffet to-go. At 5.99/lb it is more than reasonable. There was a good selection of food and every single thing I ate was delicious. The Palak Paneer was perfect! The Indian place here before has the most AMAZING mashed smoked eggplant dish. This place, however, does not and I will always lament the loss of that baingan bharta. I found a maggot in my rice when I went to reheat last night's take out. Even before that happened, the food didn't seem very fresh. It was like they put scraps of chicken in a microwaved sauce. It used to be way better than it is now. The quality has gotten terrible, you can tell they're cutting corners. I went in for the lunch buffet, and hardly any of the food was actually edible. The butter chicken was composed of odd pieces of meat and was so full of little bones I couldn't even keep eating it. The rice was super stale and dry, and all of the curries had hardly any meat and no veggies. Instead of the usual chicken served in Indian restaurants they had barbecue wings (I'm not kidding) as if we wouldn't be able to tell? On top of all this, when me and friends complained about the quality and lack of food the waiter looked he could care less and didn't even say sorry or offer any sort of compensation.
