The reason I contacted Amstill Roofing was because I saw a sign by my friend's house few days after Hurricane Beryl. A group of workers were on top of his neighbor's house replacing roof. I thought, wow, that's fast service. They are already working on the roof. I immediately stopped and took a picture of the advertising sign they posted on the curb. The day of the storm, I wasn't home. I was returning home to a completely peach-black town with no electricity on Monday July 8, 2024. That morning, a tree branch felt on my roof and punctured a hole then went through my ceiling. The tree branch caused some damages on the roof and chimney cover. The ceiling hole is less than 4 feet by 4 feet. I was desperately searching for roofing repairmen to get it patched. I called them about a week later and got an appointment for the following week. Customer service representative was very cordial. She gave me the scope of their service. At that time, I was clueless about Amstill Roofing. After the call, I started to read their website, it looks like a legit business with long history of experiences. On the day of appointment, the roofing consultant arrived right on time. He walked around to check on the damage and I sat down to listen to his 10-minute presentation. Basically telling me that they only use the highest quality roofing material and best in the industry. At that point, my roof repair was $6799 with tune up and chimney flashing. The price included communication with the insurance company on my behalf. Once he saw how much my insurance adjuster's summary, he immediately dropped the price to $3790. I asked him to submit it to my insurance company anyway. Few days later, my insurance adjuster told me that they wouldn't answer their request on itemized estimate. They want to understand the roofing company's pricing and how they charge for the repairs. That was on July 30th. So, I simply texted my guy next day, asking what "asphalt repair' means. Because my insurance company will not approve that charge, I need an explanation. Crickets... I haven't gotten a reply back. Today is August 10 and my roof still got a hole. At this point, I don't think I want to do business with Amstill Roofing anyway. read more

Their rep came out, inspected the roof, gave me an estimate in person, and everything seemed fine. But shortly after, I received a text saying they couldn't move forward with me because I needed a "state licensed roof inspector." Let me be clear: Texas does NOT have a statewide licensing requirement for roofers or "roof inspectors." This is confirmed by the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT), which only offers voluntary licensing -- and even that isn't state-mandated. So Amstill's excuse wasn't just inaccurate -- it was completely misleading. I reached out for guidance on a possible roof repair and was left with no documentation, no help, and wasted time. On top of that, the estimate they gave me for a very minor repair was outrageously high. If you value your time, money, or basic honesty, go with literally any other roofing company. 5 star service from start to finish! Sales Manager Kristian Ball helped us tremendously. Very knowledgable. No upsale, very prompt response. We went back and forth a few times to change specific material and he was patient and courteous. Biggest draw from Am still for us is roof carpentry work that we needed. Our chimney and dormer sidings needs to be replaced. Their crew was able to do that along with the roof. Field supervisor Mr. Jose Lopez getting in the attic and helped us put bath exhaust fans up the roof. Not an easy job. He did it very well. Forman Chino and the large crew were courteous, fast paced, and hard working. My husband said that the roof carpenter paid attention to detail. They arrived at 7 am and finished by 6 pm. Cleaned up so well afterwards. Office lady Sofia was efficient communicating with us with reminders. I would not hesitate to recommend them to our neighbors and friends! Please note that you do need to be diligent in checking the materials and communicating ventilation etc especially if you have specific requests. They did a good job checking, but human error happens some time. We were able to avoid that. read more

So it has been a month now that the roof has been installed. Right after the storms blew through the next day Amstill sent out an email to have our roof inspected. Just wow that a company is being proactive on possible damages. To date our thermostat for the AC is set to 75 where in the past it was set to 73. Just the savings on that temperature is huge. Hired Amstill roofing to install some vents, they all leaked and had to come out 6 or 7 times to attempt to fix. There is still a leak and I've given up calling them back as its clear they can't fix the problem. Full details: I hired Amstill to move my furnace vent and garage attic vent so I could place solar panels where they were. I decided to hire a reputable roofing company instead of trying to do it myself. They came out in a marked van to quote and confirmed they could easily do all of the work, and they gave me a quote that seemed reasonable. The salesman was very knowledgeable. They also pointed out that my hot water heater chimney/vent probably leaks (It did, as it turns out) and they would fix that with some caulk when they do the work. They came out in an unmarked truck to do the work, and I wasn't sure it was even Amstill at first, as the man spoke poor English and just pointed at the roof. I let him up and he did do a very good job at patching the holes where the vents were now removed. You could not tell anything was ever there (Though, these locations would be covered with solar panels anyway). However, the installation of the furnace vent and the attic vent was very poor. Both the newly installed furnace vent and the garage vent leaked immediately, and they also never fixed the existing issue of the hot water heater vent leaking. The new attic vent was poorly spray painted while on the roof and did not look good. I called them back for them to address the leaks, and they just put a metric ton of brown caulk on everything they could see. I do not know why you would use brown caulk on a silver vent, as it looks terrible, White or clear would have been a better choice. When they left I was not pleased with the appearance, however I was happy that the leaks should be fixed. Next time it rained however, both leaked again. They came out again and put EVEN MORE CAULK on everything and left. At this point they are making a mess of my roof and I wish they had never came out to start with. I could have installed a leaky vent myself for a much lower cost. They came out yet again, said everything past was done wrong, and tried to fix the issue again, adding yet more brown caulk. The garage vent still leaked. I called them back and they got the caulk gun out. This is when I told them that I am not happy with the existing vent, clearly something must be wrong with it and I don't want even more caulk just randomly installed. At this point my gutters are scuffed up and my roof has been walked on by countless people getting to the vent, I feel like I should have never bothered to call them. The guy went down to Home Depot and bought a vent they had to install (I could have done this...) and they installed the new vent, slathered more caulk all around it and left. The vent still leaked. They came out again and put more caulk on the vent, and assured me it was fixed. It was not They came out a final time and decided to replace some shingles around the vent (My roof if from late 2018, the shingles are fine) and told me all my problems would be solved. They were not, the vent still leaks, though not as badly as it did to start with. Now I out around $900, and my roof looks worse than it did before I hired them, and my garage leaks. Avoid at all costs. I decided at this point that they are doing more damage to my roof than good, and are clearly not qualified to install a vent in a roof. While I am not happy at all, I am happy that I now know to avoid them, I can't imagine the issues I'd have getting an entire roof from them. read more

Prior to installation, Trent was with me on the call to the insurance company. Picking the color of shingles was easy Then, he was here off and all the day of installation of the roof. The crew that was here were such hard workers, they got everything done almost in one day. My experience with Amstill Roofing surpassed all expectations except for one. They're customer service. Their roof inspection was incredibly thorough, identifying areas of concern that were missed by a previous opinion. The representative was extremely knowledgeable, demonstrating and explaining the superiority of their products compared to competitors. The replacement materials were of high grade and precisely as quoted. True to their word, they completed the job on the promised day. Even after enduring three intense rainstorms, the roof remained leak-free without any issues. However, approximately two months after the roof replacement, my wife noticed that the GFI outlets in our kitchen were tripping. Upon investigating, we were shocked to discover water inside the electrical outlets when we opened them. I immediately contacted the company, and they promptly sent out one of their installers. While we didn't find any evidence of problems with the roof itself, we made a startling discovery. Two of their nails had pierced our cold waterline, leading to significant mold and water damage in our walls. Consequently, we had to bear the cost of not only the roof replacement (amounting to $16k) but also hiring a plumber to fix the compromised pipe, along with a substantial deductible from our insurance company. My only issue with this company is their complete lack of accountability for this accident. This is precisely why companies invest in insurance coverage. It baffles me how they can disregard our situation and absolve themselves of any responsibility. Their response that "your 17-year-old home was not up to code, which is why we hit the water line" implies that they consider the fault to lie with our home. They should have told me that before they did the work. To compound matters, my wife suffers from severe mold allergies, making the situation even more distressing for us. An excellent experience all around! Gabe came out to see us to inspect (with a drone!) and talk about all our options. In the end we opted to replace our 20-yr-old roof completely because their price was so good. Gabe was extremely clear on the materials and how they'd be applied, and even forwarded info on tax rebates for using energy star compliant shingle. The team arrived at 7am on the day of the job and worked until after 9pm. There's a lot of mess from a project like this but the team spoke to all my neighbors and arranged cleanup on their properties for anything that fell there. Short Review: All in all -- they're just "OK" as the 3 stars suggests (positive for professionalism; negative for the higher pricing; Neutral for the mediocre customer service). I think the 4.5 stars is a little overstated, as they are not much different than any other contractor. The extra upfront charge should be backed by a level of quality/excellence/customer service, which I did not get. Eh, it's part of home ownership, right? Dealing with contractors. Long Review: I had a roof leak and had gone on Yelp to request a few quotes. A few contractors got back to me and gave me a quote for the work. Amstill's pricing came out slightly higher (couple hundred dollars), and they quoted me an additional optional $725 to reseal/replace all of my flashing on the roof as a preventative measure. I signed a contract with Amstill for the level of professionalism they presented and didn't haggle anything. With that I also paid them extra to reseal all of my flashing per their recommendation. I figured since they're already up there, I might as well have them do the extra preventative work. They did the work -- I paid them. Everything went as expected -- their contractor came out and sealed my leak. After 5 days of raining here in downtown Houston during Harvey (about 5 months after repair), I noticed a water spot on my wall. I had initially assumed it was a leaking shingle since I just sealed the flashing. It took me a while, but I eventually found the small leak of water dripping down the side of the pipe a few weeks after Harvey. I had contacted Amstill regarding the leak from the flashing (which I had paid extra to reseal; It was from one of the ones they worked on). They had their contractor come out and take a look at it from inside. They called me back the following Monday and quoted me $375 for them to come back another day and repair it claiming it was storm damage. They claimed it was a new leak (ignoring that they touched it during preventative maintenance.) I requested to speak to Sam, but instead an admin called me back to tell me he was busy, they spoke, and that the pricing is that -- take it or leave it. I ended up paying the $375. It's not a lot, but it's the principle of customer service and guaranteeing your work. It's arguable that it might not have leaked had they not initially touched it and that maybe the leak was there when they completed the work, but it had not surfaced until enough water had collected inside to damage the wall. They warrant their work for 45 days (stated on the contract; I asked for 90 days like in some reviews, but no go) which is not quite enough time to really diagnose their workmanship or for a failure to reveal itself (unless you climb up to your roof and then hose it down; could fix your own roof at that point). The mantra of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rings true in my case. I saw a reply to one of Amstill's review suggesting a reviewer's roof was ready for bad weather... can you back that? I was hoping they'd go above and beyond their competitors since they charge a little more and I invested a little extra for preventative service, but instead they decided they could make a few dollars more. While I picked Amstill due to their level of professionalism, I would say that's the only edge they have over their competitor. You're paying a little bit extra for the professionalism, but the overall care/customer service is just about the same as any. read more

Once I asked why it was so expensive and what about the military discount it went down to $375.00 to replace only (3) shingles. I guess they are charging $100.00 per shingle. I hired this company to do a complete repair on our roof in 2017. 2 years later the same repair has be redone with same areas leaking on the roof. I paid for top recommended materials. I called them to come out and they said they no longer service 3-story buildings. They were quite dismissive. I got another company to come in to inspect and provide a quote which basically means I have to pay for same repair only 2 years later. Amstill stood out as an ethical and honest company from the first time I spoke with them until after the job was completed. They asked me what I wanted, committed to meeting my expectations, and made good on those commitments, some of which went above and beyond what a standard roof install entailed. We had a major hailstorm and our area was almost immediately flooded with roofing contractors that wanted our business. I spoke with several of them before Sam approached me and introduced himself. It was very apparent that he stood out from the rest of the solicitors in the manner he presented himself and the way Amstill does business, so I signed a service agreement with them because it was clear they were the right people to get my job done. Within days, other roofers came by, some of which asked me to back out of my signed contract because they would "treat me better." The first thing that came to my mind is that if the company asking me to be unethical and break my deal is that casual about doing so, where else are they going to be unethical? I would be kept up at night every time we had a storm wondering if a corner was cut or something wasn't done right. I don't have to worry about that now. Amstill took care of ALL interactions with my insurance company, leaving me to worry about things like what color shingle I wanted while they worked out the details in bringing the insurance company's initial lowball offer up to what it actually takes to replace a roof in the proper manner. Amstill demonstrated a real commitment to safety in their proposal, including the fact that anyone on the roof had to have an OSHA compliant harness and be tied off to prevent falls. Lots of roofs have been replaced lately here, and I've watched the crews that did the work - most of them were not tied off. I don't want to risk someone's life just to put a roof on my home - it's just not worth it. Their entire crew, with Jose at the lead, was courteous, committed to doing the job right, took care of protecting my property, and were done with almost 4600 square feet of shingles, including an immaculate job of cleaning up, in one day. They even sent someone out the next day to be sure there wasn't a single nail, piece of roofing scrap, or sign they had ever been there! Dealing with Amstill for a roof replacement has been a nightmare. I understand that errors happen- like supposedly being shipped the wrong color shingles. However, to install nearly 10k in materials without taking two seconds to verify they were actually installing the correct agreed upon shingles- just an example of the quality of service received. Still can't quite understand how it is the distributors fault that Amstill installed the wrong product as they insist it was not their fault ?? See complaint now made public on the Houston BBB site-although quite long it is not an exhaustive list of all of the issues we have encountered- having a credit application accessed without our knowledge or permission, attempting to pad the price of contract with non-disclosed fees of over $ 500 which per lender were NOT TO BE PAID by customer ( it was a MERCHANT fee ! ), sloppy installation in areas such as edges and flashing, failing to complete all work as indicated in contract, installing the wrong shingles, damaging our gutters which per Amstill they were supposed to remove before installing roof, roofing over holes in decking, etc etc etc. To date, of the dozen or so issues presented in BBB complaint, they have failed to address the majority of them at all- this speaks volumes ! Perhaps the icing on the cake if you will- after being told specifically NOT to walk on a specific area of the roof as I questioned the integrity of the decking they had replaced in that area, Sam proceeded to access our roof anyway, walked to the area and began jumping up and down to show it could withstand his weight- no need to explain how reckless and disrespectful this was but guess it was par for the course for Amstill.
