We planned a trip from Fullerton to San Diego in the business class section of the train. I can honestly say that business class is the way to go. We had plenty of leg room, and it was a smooth ride. The train crew were polite, and super friendly. Making it a much more enjoyable experience. Not to mention the snacks they offer. That's always a plus. My only complaint and reason for 4 stars is the un-manned information booth at the Fullerton station, where our day started. We had a couple of questions because we needed assistance on where we had to board. There were no employees in sight. We found ourselves having to ask other riders if we were at the right location. Aside that little bump in the road, everything went smooth. We definitely had an awesome experience and will be looking forward to future trips on Amtrak. read more

This was a very nice and clean train station. Parking in the large outdoor lot is free, and the signage guiding passengers to trains is clear. There were two main issues with this station: 1. No employees were visible anywhere in the station. Many passengers felt confused about where to go or had questions regarding their trips. The sign on the information window explained that no staff were available because they were trainside- those with questions searched repeatedly for employees but found none. 2. The PA system was very hard to hear due to heavy static, and in Area 1, the Business section, messages broadcast to other parts of the loading platforms were nonexistent. Customers waiting to board tried to help each other. Despite these two issues, I would definitely use this station again. read more

I've ridden the train a few times over the last 20 years. Fullerton to San Diego. Fullerton to Chatsworth. Lovely experiences. Unfortunately, my recent trip, Fullerton to Burbank, was interrupted by an engine breakdown. I arrived at the Fullerton station 45 minutes before departure time. Train was on time until about 15 minutes before it was to arrive at Fullerton Station due to "traffic." Ten minutes later the announcer said, "engine breakdown. Estimated 1-2 hour delay," Amtrak was to drop me off at Hollywood Burbank Station at 3;38pm Southwest fight to depart @5:55pm. Same day. Amtrak ticket cost: $18 I had a plane to catch at Burbank Airport. If the train was 2 or more hours late I'd miss my flight. So I drove my car home & hired an Uber. Before Uber arrived I received an Amtrak email saying the train was only 37 minutes behind schedule and had resumed service. Uber cost: $107. Lesson Learned: Do Not rely on Amtrak for same day service to the airport. Either travel the day before or drive. read more

So I started off in Palm Springs en route to downtown. First off, the driving during rush hour is a major bitch so finding other ways around was a lifesaver. Started off in Palm Springs Airport which leads you to the Fullerton station in downtown Fullerton. From there, the start of the Amtrak to LA. The station itself is decent. You have the ticket counter with a little seating area. Restroom are located there which you would need to show a ticket in order to use it. They don't want people just walking in and about. There's also a cafe right next door. While waiting for your train and grab a snack or something to drink. I had to do that later on the return. There's two side with the stations. You have the screen telling which track to go to depending on where to start and finish. There's a bridge that connects you to the other side for the other track. This connection to downtown was only about half an hour which it's the next stop. So that was nice. The station does get pretty busy with both locals and travelers. You'll see people with suitcases as well as locals going about their business. It's a cool concept and a new way to get around without having to drive and sit in traffic. Only downfall, if there's something wrong with the tracks or system, it could be a major wait. Give yourself extra time incase that happened which it did on the return. A lot of the trains were stuck as there was something wrong with the system. Otherwise, it's fairly decent. read more

Pretty convenient station! I booked some tickets to go to the Del Mar Horse races and got off the train at Solana Beach station. It's a good price and very convenient if you don't want to drive and get stuck in traffic. On the weekends, it gets insane in the morning! The Fullerton station has ample parking and it's easy to navigate. Another plus is that there is a lot of food spots near the station. As for inside the train, you are able to drink and bring your own drinks but if you forget, they also have a popular bar/snack cart in the front of the train. If you go on a Del Mar Race day from Orange County, expect it to be packed and know you might have to stand. Inside the trains, they have bathrooms, the train isn't super clean but it isn't too noticeable. read more

Did not want to sit in L.A. traffic after spending all day sitting in L.A. traffic for work. I was headed to the Pantages to see Book of Mormon but the only way to get back to Orange County via train, at night is with an Amtrak ticket. I purchased one at the window at the Fullerton train station and it was a quick and easy process. The last train leaving union station is at 10:10 pm and I would have had to leave the play early to catch the train, but I ended up getting a ride back with family to Orange County. I've taken the Amtrak in the past and it's always been a pleasant and comfortable experience. read more

What a way to travel!!! From Fullerton, it was a beautiful 2 hour ride to Santa Fe Depot which was basically in the heart of San Diego. Train arrived on time. Took a ride on metrolink to union station in downtown LA. Jumped on at Fullerton station for a pleasant ride to Los Angeles. Walked around China town, had lunch at Philippe's, and strolled olvera street before returning to union station and riding metrolink back to Fullerton. It was an easy way to make the trip. No parking issues in downtown, traffic congestion, or other headaches . Sat down and chatted with some friends who joined us. My only disappointment was that the ticket kiosks were not very user friendly. On our return trip a friend showed me how to buy a weekend day pass for less than the 2 one way tickets I had purchased. I wish that option was easier to find, but I will know for next time. read more

We loved the train ride. Smooth and punctual. But absolutely hated the restrooms. Filthy bathrooms and the seats, windows and curtains are all filthy. Maybe it was the train we rhode to Santa Barbara. 765 and 790. Both trains to and from were dirty and older. But the train overall aside from the restrooms, seats and curtains being dirty there was no trash and the air was breathable. The cafe was the highlight though. This Amtrak station is very odd. They have a waiting room full of passengers but keep the two restrooms there locked. To unlock, you have to ask a clerk behind the counter to press a button to let you in to the use the restroom. Often there is a long line of people waiting for service at the counter so if you have to make a quick connection to another Amtrak train or the Amtrak bus, you have to go to the head of the line, excuse yourself, and interrupt the clerk to press the button for you. Today, as I quickly had to make a restroom stop between Amtrak connections, both restrooms were locked - as usual. I went to the counter and asked politely "excuse me could you please unlock the restroom." The clerk (who was helping a customer) looks up at me with a stare and has the audacity to say to me "that's kind of rude" while a line of 10 people is waiting to get to his window. What an ass - if you don't want to be interrupted, keep your restroom amenities OPEN and AVAILABLE for your paying customers! They create a situation where you have no choice but to do this, and then try to make you feel like YOU did something wrong asking them to do their job! Very unpleasant situation and they should reexamine their practices. read more

He made the trip uncomfortable and when he was handling out snack boxes he passed us up. Never had someone as rude and not willing to help. Took the train from the LA/OC area down to San Diego on the glorious pacific surfliner. I haven't done this route in years and was really excited to get on this train again. I have to say, it did not let me down. I took the business class option (front two cars), where they have drinks, snacks, and private large bathrooms available as well. Multiple Amtrak hosts work the cars and do a great job in making sure you have everything you need for a comfortable journey. My luggage fit without issue, and the seats were very spacious with a nice tray table that let me do a little work and read. The journey itself was smooth, no "turbulence" or really any comfortability whatsoever. I would highly recommend this as an option if you need to traverse down the pacific coast. read more

Took the Pacific Surf-liner from Fullerton to SLO for the Memorial Day weekend to visit some friends. The train ended up being 30 minutes late, so we waited in the dark near some sketchy homeless in the area. We paid for business class but service wasn't great. There was self serve water, coffee, juice and pastries. The complementary snack box wasn't even handed out until 15 minutes before our trip arrived to our destination, 6 hrs later! So bring your own food or plan on paying for something in the Cafe car. Our return trip left about 20 minutes late, waiting for a conductor driving in from LA. It was quite busy and the train filled up in a few subsequent stops. The views from the upper level are amazing along so much of the deserted Central California coast. I would still ride this train again just for the views and not having to drive in traffic. Seating is comfortable and has plenty of legroom. read more

First time using this station in Fullerton but somehow when i was asking question at the window, the clerk seems agitated and mean. I was just asking which side of the train i have to board but maybe she wants to go to lunch already and i was keeping her or maybe she doesn't like it that she has to work on a holiday whatever the reason, she wasn't very nice unpleasant to talk to. This review is specific for John, ticketing agent at Fullerton station the morning of 1/28/25. I received a phone call, text and email from Amtrak less than 10 hours from my scheduled departure that my train was cancelled. The messages from Amtrak assured me that an alternate bus has been arranged. I showed up to the station about 30 minutes from my scheduled departure and had the unfortunate encounter with John. When I got to his window I asked about the bus and where should I board. He then replied, "You know the bus won't leave until 10:50 and will only take you to Los Angeles. The next train to Burbank won't leave until 3 pm. Do you know that?" I replied, "No, I was not aware of that. My final destination is Burbank and the message I received stated that there is an alternate plan for me." He continued to scoff and berate me and said "Well, that's wrong we don't have a plan for you. Maybe there's a Metrolink that you can take maybe there won't be a train. I don't know what is the plan. We don't have a plan for you and why would you think there is an alternate plan for you." I let John know that I do not appreciate his tone of voice and refuse to be talked to in this manner. I asked to speak with a manager or supervisor and he replied that there is no manager there. He continued to raise his voice and said that I needed to step aside because he is done speaking to me. He then called another customer while I was still at the window completely ignoring me. I repeated my request to speak with a manager or supervisor. He then yelled at me again to get out of HIS station then pulled his blinds down. At this point I left the counter and contacted the Amtrak corporate office. I was speaking to an Amtrak customer representative when 3 Amtrak police officers tried to approach me. John felt the need to call them because he felt threatened that a colored woman refused to be talked to by him like a second class citizen. I was also informed that I am not allowed to board the bus. read more

Amtrak from Fullerton to San Diego! It was my first time and I loved it. The only down side was the morning was gloomy but overall a great experience. Restroom in Fullerton are open as soon as they open the rep at the counter will buzz you in. For over night parking they do have a parking structure Available if needed on the next block not at the Fullerton station. For all day parking the last lot is for Amtrak passengers, we parked at around 6:30am and returned 9:20pm from San Diego. Also unsure if this is something to be aware of but Amtrak sells more coach tickets than their are seats available so on our way back their were people standing, if this is useful for anyone . Please book at your own risk. I will certainly be booking again for the convenience but I am now aware of how coach and business class work. So just a note for you to plan accordingly I hope this post is helpful read more

I highly recommend buying a $15 ticket and jump on the train instead of driving in traffic!! I just wish it went to LAX!! read more

I love taking the train. I grew up in Fullerton and remember this station from high school. I usually am taking to train to visit my son in Colorado. But now he strong stationing at Ft Drum in Upper State NY. We are going back in May for his wedding and my wife and I are taking a sleeper car. Mr Johnny B. helped me get the best tickets possible. Design-wise, Fullerton rail station is like a mini Union Station in DTLA where California Mission & Spanish Colonial blend as an homage to California's Spanish colonial & Mexican past. Surprisingly in this age of automation & interacting on the web w/ smart phones, this Amtrack & local regional Metrolink station still has a manned office but only from the hours of 5:30am - 10:45pm. Any time, use the automated ticket machine in the waiting room that takes credit cards for a paper ticket. Or go on the website for Amtrack or the Metrolink trains and buy w/ a credit card where I assume it will give you an e-ticket to be scanned via the phone screen on board the train by one of the conductors. I'm tired of driving on ever more crowded freeways that are choking themselves. The trains are for the most part smooth, quiet, & fast. It was amusing to see clogged I-5 freeway on the way to Oceanside chock full of stop & go cars while we whooshed by. Stress free riding so you can nap, read, text, make phone calls, etc. Great way to travel and not be worn down by hassled, tedious driving. The weekdays see regional MetrolInk service & Amtrack Pacific Surfliner & Coast Starlight, but no Metrolink for the weekends so there is less scheduled train service. There is day parkIng as well as longer term overnight parking up to 72 hours. Don't park on any Fullerton street since it is illegal to park between 2am -5am at any time even with a handicap placard. In some ways, Fullerton still lives as though it thinks it's still behind the bad, old days of the Orange Curtain. Next project is to figure out how to get from Burbank to Fullerton. Especially convenient for meeting up w/ friends, relatives, paramours who can come pick you up at the station. read more

I normally take the Amtrak from Fullerton to San Diego-Santa Fe Station. Considering I hate to drive, this is a great option for me. I have the option of booking and buying my train ticket on the Amtrak app, but I prefer to deal with the reservation agent face to face. They are always very nice, and provide personal information on traveling. This particular trip, was during the Labor Day weekend. The thought of driving on the 5 fwy to San Diego, was not on my schedule. I envisioned hours of driving on a packed holiday weekend would be miserable and nerve wracking....did I mention I hate to drive? Train 1572 was on time, and I boarded and found myself a window seat. Luggage secure overhead, to allow other riders to have a seat. I dislike when the train is semi-packed and you have a lone rider with all his bags on the seat. Train started rolling, found myself getting comfortable. Overhead I heard a male voice, advising us that the cafeteria/lounge was now open. This is what he stated "The Bar is fully loaded, and so am I.... this totally cracked me up!!! I had to get up and get myself a drink, and find this Amtrak associate! I found Charlie, and we had an awesome conversation-he gladly posed with me. After securing my beer, and getting back into my seat-I started to look out the window-so many things/places you see when your not driving. I especially like when the tracks gets close to the Pacific Ocean, surfers and families in the water enjoying themselves. I arrived at my destination relaxed, which was within walking distance of the Santa Fe Train Depot. All the associates at Amtrak are awesome, they are warm and you can feel that they care about you having a great experience on the Amtrak. I'm seriously considering take a longer trip on the Amtrak with the sleeping accommodations. There are phone outlet plugs to charge your phone. Amtrak station is actually pretty nice for a train station. Ample parking and actual restaurants across the parking lot. Downtown Fullerton is right here so it is well policed and clean. Walking bridge connects the South and North sides of the station so you aren't left with a precarious run through train traffic. I also like that there are benches to sit on, and shade (just in case your train is late). Restrooms are available inside, but you have to get buzzed in by an employee. Vending machines, a small convenience store, even a cactus patch! What else can you ask for? read more

I usually only take an Amtrak train if there isn't an available Metrolink train running around the same time. It usually costs about twice as much as a Metrolink train, however Amtrak is a bit nicer for a longer trip. I usually only travel up to Union Station or down to San Diego. It sure beats having to deal with downtown Los Angeles traffic or the staycation traffic along the 5 freeway. Pay close attention to the announcements over the PA system, so you don't end up taking the wrong train. Sometimes multiple trains heading for different destinations will arrive fairly close to each other or the trains will be using a different track than the usual. read more

Heck yes! How much better can traveling get? Big ol' windows to take in the views, café car for dining and drinking pleasure. Your excursion literally starts as you get to the train station. I've yet to meet a conductor that wasn't friendly and super cool. Seats are always pretty comfy, especially if you get the ones that have the pop-out leg rest. There are outlets at every row of seats and also WiFi! The train can get pretty crowded depending on when you are traveling (dates and/or time) so if you aren't traveling alone there may be a time when you can't sit together. But I would say 90% of my trips were average crowd and no problem finding seats together at all. I've also been aboard when it was standing room only after a few stops!! Café car has beer, wine, drinks, snacks, soda, coffee, candy, sandwiches, fruit and other items to tide you over. Depending on the train, kind of depends on what you will find in the café car. My favorite train is the Surfliner... I take it from Fullerton to San Diego several times per year. You roll down the coast and see the Artic transportation hub in Anahiem alongside what I still call The Pond and also the Big A, you'll see Orange Balloon at Great Park in Irvine, the piers of San Clemente, Oceanside marine base, cool campgrounds, the boobs at San Onofre, palm trees, surfers, all the people stuck on the 5 fwy and much, much more. I also love taking the train to downtown LA and Union Station. There you can get out and do some shopping and site seeing, I especially love that Olvera Street is just across the street from the station. Join their online club for discounts and deals too! I found the Amtrak train itself to be pretty spacious. The train is two levels! I was fond of the fact that they had several outlets on the side where one can plug-in their electronics! Train ride itself was nice and smooth. They would tell the travelers ahead where the next stops were. I'd give Amtrak four stars except for two reasons: one, certain areas of the train had a weird smell and two, we were 40 minutes late to when they were supposed to arrive. Overall however, the Amtrak was a nice and convenient way to get to the destination I wanted to get at. It's a easy peasy, stress free way of traveling to San Diego. read more
