You can't beat the Amtrak here in Southern California. It's so easy and relaxing as opposed to driving on the 5 freeway! I love looking at the ocean and all the beautiful palm trees along the way. It's super crowded today on 2/27/26 and we found seats in the first car. Next stop, Anaheim after Santa Ana. They have free Wi-Fi and you can work or nap or read. read more

This is for Santa Ana station parking structure My advice is avoid using this spot for OC Bus Express for OC fair starting next year This literally just happened right now and I'm so furious. I chose to park at this station for OC Fair Express! Literally as I took my last bus back to Santa Ana station from OC Fair, the parking garage is completely locked and closed and I can't get my car back. I'm literally having my brother pick me up to take me home and I have to come to the next morning to get my car. What a total BS! The parking structure saids it's closed from 12am-4am but when I try to go to the garage, it's already closed and it was 11:41pm!!! I tried calling the number and they're not responding or reaching back! I will file a complaint to OC Fair about this & Next year I'm not using this station for OC Bus Express!! I will stick with either Anaheim Artic or Fullerton Park n Ride In addition, imagine if I took A595 or A794 to Santa Ana, either of them face severe delays and by the time you arrive back to SA and notice the parking garage is completely closed because of being late due to train delays? That's a beautiful station, archtecturally and it looks more historically, I don't know, "correct" than the newer-looking one in Irvine. At least I was happy to be able to get out of the train and go into a climate-controlled waiting room for train passengers. I like the idea of that vegetarian sandwich machine thing-y over in the corner by the vending machines. It actually had stuf in it. Other than that it's kind of sad to see so much of it closed up and boarded up with locks on the things they use to close off areas, I don't know how much of that is COVID-pandemic related and how much of it is "people don't ride trains anymore especially in southern Caliornia" related, but if it's the latter it's even more saddening. With more frequent connecting bus services that place could be NICE. Other than that it's just standing there being probably the only thing "pretty" in downtown Santa Ana. read more

Any transportation business has a tough job. I want to give kudos to the station managers and attendants who staff the station and the trains. They, like airline employees get an earful every day from unhappy customers about situations that they have lttle control over. I saw the train attendants kindly assist a disabled woman off the train and they helped my girls who were traveling alone to get where they needed. The Santa Ana Amtrak Depot is one of the five train depots available in Orange County to board the Pacific Surfliner to Union Station for travel up the California Coastline. Coach and Business class seating is available on both trains. Seats in business offer more leg room and wider seating along with complimentary bottled water, coffee and a few packaged snacks. Both business and coach have outlets to power electronics. Union Station is the transfer point to the Coast Starlight. If you need to use the restroom and grab a snack both are available in the main staton area. It's worth the walk to stretch your legs and get a view of the beautiful architecture in this historical building. Starbucks, pizza and a small convenience store anchor the depot. Small booths selling souvenirs and magazines near the reserved seating area are open later in the day. Tips: For an ocean view from your seat sit on the left hand side of the train. Outside food is allowed. The cafe has a decent selection but not many healthy options. Use the Amtrak app to purchase your tickets and earn loyalty points and train updates. Arrive on time! This was a very fun way to travel from Orange County to the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego for my birthday weekend. Not much difference between coach and business class on such a short trip but we got a free drink and snack. On Del Mar race days, it get crowded coming out of Irvine so you best prepare for the onslaught of loud partiers. Kind of like a Friday afternoon flight to Vegas. We got on in Santa Ana and the trip was about 2 hours. Nice coastal views on the Coaster. About $80 for two round trip business class seats. Had a fun afternoon of lunch and drinking in Gaslamp before a Padres game, night in a hotel, brunch and train ride home Sunday. Named after Ana Kendrick and Ana Karenina, this is the heart of regional transit for this part of the OC. The Santa Ana bus station is right downtown at 1000 East Santa Ana Boulevard and usually closes at 5:30 p.m. which is a little bit unusual, but it's basically part of the Santa Ana Regional transport center, and on holidays the hours are even more restrictive. It's an absolutely beautiful Center, and they built it looking like some kind of a Spanish Villa or Mission. Like a huge beautiful Citadel with the typical red and white buildings looking rustic and tanned and sunkissed, and palm trees and an absolutely gorgeous stairwell overlooking the Amtrak rails. It's been made absolutely beautiful and is a great example of how perfect California is. But that's Orange County for you. Lavish and expensive and putting way too much money into themselves. read more

I found this train station to be confusing despite its size and how quiet it is. Upon exiting I went up stairs and although I followed all the signs, I still managed to get lost. Finally finding the central area of the train station, I became confused as to which door to exit. There is a main courtyard area to sit and wait for trains. There is plenty of interior seating in the dark area of the station. Bathrooms are clean, but old looking. When my friend picked me up, there was not much card to confuse that part of my journey thankfully. read more

0 stars Amtrak was my favorite choice of traveling to San Diego because of its speedy transportation and great view along the way but unfortunately traveling this thanksgiving weekend 2023 left me very disappointed. First, I paid for my ticket which yes was coach class and upon boarding the train there were literally NO seat at all available! The train workers blocked a total of 10 seat which said; reserved for staff only, never did I see staff sit down. I wasn't the only one standing on the isles of the train but there were also elderly people, children, adult and our luggage's taking up the walking space and even a dog as well (I'm so glad I did not pay an extra $50 for my dog because he would also take up the isle) the train worker informed us we could not sit on the reserved area as they are for staff and he also Informed me "when you purchased you're ticket , it says in small writting not a guarantee seat" 1) this is a emergency/fire hazard people standing on the isles could break an ankle or wrist if they fall, hit there head and have a concussion or fall down the stairs. There were literally people on the stairs and the walking path standing. 2) no one checks to confirm passengers boarding really bought a ticket with "seat" or "no seat" (which might explain them over booking the train) 3) I saw twice two homeless men board the train and both seem to have mental illnesses and causing confrontation with passengers. ( no security present) Note: we pay a pretty penny to board the train we deserve a seat with coach or business it shouldn't matter. Where's all the money going to? The seats and windows of the plain and the floor/carpet should be clean yet looked dirty. There's no train attendant passing by to pick up trash which is why people leave their trash on the seats. Me and my family a group of 8 travel to old town every year twice for thanksgiving and Christmas. Definitely looking for a different means of transportation. read more

We arrived to Santa Barbara around 2pm-230pm. We were hungry, exhausted, and now crunched for time because our Amtrak back to Orange County was scheduled for 7:02PM. Train 796: Made the best of our day by eating at a nice restaurant, visiting a few wine bars, but still missed out on experiencing the fish market because we just did not have the time (thanks to Amtrak's delay). But still, we are pretty positive people and try to make the best of any situation. On the way back home, same day, again delayed. Amtrak suddenly stops about 20 mins outside of Ventura and there's an announcement about a relief crew on the way from Oxnard?? Then something happens to their "motor vehicle" and we are further delayed and not moving until the relief crew gets to our Amtrak. We did not make it back home until almost 130AM that Sunday thanks to Amtrak. My fiancé and I were trying to celebrate our anniversary together and planned a quick getaway and thanks to Amtrak, we were only exhausted, famished, and pissed off by the end of the day. Therefore, no, I would never wish such a dreadful experience to anybody else. I don't ever see myself recommending Amtrak to anybody and next time, I'll drive myself to Santa Barbara. read more

When I went to Coachella in 2015 they told me I had to go from LA Union Station because there was no direct connection to Santa Ana. It was a bit tough because I didn't want to be getting off in the crowded ARTIC Station and got no interest in doing so. The Amtrak crews were very sweet and caring because I am a frequent rider card holder (Amtrak Guest Rewards). They were so nice that I nearly cried with happiness. Never in my life would I see such polite people "Mr. Wang, would you like a drink? We have a nice beverage for you in the snack car" It reminds me of a former Youtube video called "Amtrak Holiday Tail" I was trying to get to my mother's cousin's house and Santa Ana Station was just the right place. The Santa Ana Station is not very noisy which is perfect for me because after a rowdy time in a music festival, I need to calm down. read more

Arrived here at the Amtrak station last night from the Rams/Seahawks game at the Coliseum. What a nightmare with Metrolink in the morning as the last time to leave at Union Station was 6:00 so I missed it. Next option was Amtrak. It saved me! I was so pleased to enjoy how seamless the whole experience was. The announcement was very clear as to each stop and it really was so relaxing. They do have food service and bar/beverages. Bring your Wifi plug in unit if you need your phone charged or service. Both the 7th and Figueroa location was very pretty inside (the employees behind the ticket counter were slow and without personality) but the Santa Ana arrival was welcoming and also had some very pretty Spanish decor. First time experience and I am pleased to say I am excited about using Amtrak again as it was by far superior to my Metrolink experience.. read more

Absolute horrible customer service. No one knew what to do with my special luggage items. Had several men yell at us where to go giving us the run around. Finally put my bags somewhere because someone told me to and then they told me it wasn't protocol and to move my stuff. I was left tired and confuse going back and forth. Everyone was rude except for the amazing conductor Joe who absolutely made our day and our whole trip worth while. He was very sweet and thoughtful and went the extra mile. Other than that it was not a great experience. It's such a bummer because it really could be magical. On the way there the cafe cart person was very sweet to us but on the way back the lady was not pleasant to deal with and it such a because we spent a lot of money in the cafe. Not sure what was up with everybody but the communication and customer service was horrible and waited on the phone for a total of 5 hours altogether when needing assistance with tickets and questions. This train station has Metrolink and Amtrak running back and forth daily. Just like an airport, there are different airlines. In this case, there are different train companies. My destination was to Santa Barbara so I went northbound on Amtrak 763 Pacific Surfliner. First off, go inside and double check everything with your train company representative! Take the elevator up to cross the bridge then go back down and wait by track 1. Make sure you wait at the correct track! Keep in mind that Amtrak and Metrolink uses this station so make sure you get on the correct train! It was very confusing!! I saw someone almost get on the wrong train. Thank god I ran into 4 other newbies and we all stuck together to help each other out. - Snacks, water, coffee are sold on train. - Beer and wine are sold on train. - Restrooms are available on train. Recently travelled from Santa Ana to San Diego on the Surfliner and was amazed by my experience. The lady at the ticketing counter was extremely helpful and friendly. On the way back I forgot a duffle bag on the train. She quickly called to the Fullerton station and asked they send it back on the next train. I was able to retrieve the bag in less than 30 minutes. I wish I noted her name. The folks assisting with business class are also very attentive and made for a stress free and quick commute. It was exactly what I needed to and from vacation. read more

I love the Pacific Surfliner route. Of course, I had a train obsession as a child I think I never grew out of. I've been using it for years now and there are few things more pleasurable to me than sitting back on the upper level, having a glass of wine and taking in the amazing views of the Pacific Coast heading to San Diego. For a while I was doing this twice a month (since I partied in SD often while living in West Hollywood). I'm unsure why it would have low reviews. I've been in trains fir over 10hrs today due to multiple mistakes & problems. 1st the train going from LA to SD was not on track 12 as advertised so it left me behind 1 hr to catch the nextra train that we sat on for 2hrs because the staff hadn't arrived then the train shut off, so they had to "reset" it to start up again so we stopped again for30min. A little while later the signal ahead was supposedly not working & there was another train in front of us so we stopped again for 1 hr. They refused to let me off. Its clearly not safe to be on this train. My wife can pick me up in 30min but they refuse to cooperate or update us. Poor service, poor management, poor accountability. I will never use ride here again it's after midnight & I started on a train at 1:30 from Fresno to SD read more

I cannot imagine what she deals with on a daily basis, and she still has a smile. She even took the time to get to know me a little, give me traveling tips, and make sure i was taken care of. Highly recommend this mode of travel of not in a hurry!This was a great experience! Last month, we traveled from Santa Ana Station on Amtrak to Union Station L.A., then to Vancouver, WA. for a total of 64hrs. round trip. We chose NOT to have a sleeper which next time we will have! However. the comfortable seats reclined so the pillows and blankets we brought were just fine for the long trip. We are seniors and hadn't been on a train for several years so this was an extraordinary experience. The staff were good at meeting all our needs. The food was good and tasty though pricey. The scenery over the Cascades was spectacular viewing in the dome car. Even though there were many stops along the way, the night for sleeping was quiet and restful. When traveling leisurely again, we will again take the Amtrak. read more

Rode the train from Santa Ana to San Diego. First time rider with no clue what to do. Told the conductor I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do, was instructed where to set my bag. The person at the othe end of the car got a lot more info. Still waiting on my complimentary anything. Paid extra for it, the steward came thru and talked to everyone but me. I cant find anyone to ask anything and I am not really happy with the lack of info right now. The other good thing is the scenery. FINALLY...1+ hour later I get some service. It's been years since I've been to this train station. I love the history and architecture of this place. It's located near the county courthouse and parking is ample. We were going to Del Mar for the races and decided to take the train. We arrived in the morning and there were a few people walking around, but the area was clean and not crowded at all. We purchased our tickets and waited for our train to arrive. This gave us a few minutes to walk around and enjoy the architecture. My only complaint about the station was the signage wasn't great telling you which track was where. People were asking others where their track was. So it wasn't just us that were kind of confused. The ride itself was awesome. The conductor was great. It was starting to get crowded so we went into the business seating area and she didn't mind as the train filled up by the time we hit our next stop in Irvine. Comfortable ride, we got enjoy the scenery of the ocean and beaches. If you don't really need a car I would recommend taking the train. It was a great experience and nice just sit back and enjoy the ride. read more

We have taken the Amtrak many times out to L.A. from Santa Ana and I love it. I love not worrying about driving, staying stuck in traffic, the possibility of getting lost, saving gas and the best part is that I can relax. I love the cafe on the train as well. I like getting one of their turkey and cheese sub sandwiches (ask them to warm it up a bit, for sometimes they can be ice cold) oh, and ordering a mini bottle of wine or beer. You can even bring your laptop on board connect it up and watch a film while in route to your destination. The staff are usually a bit quarky.. Last weekend we took the Amtrak leaving from Santa Ana to Union Station in L.A for the weekend. Ticket prices were very reasonable. The price for two one way tickets to L.A. was only $24. That is so much cheaper than what the gas would of cost and the fact that we could relax and have cocktails was like a little holiday. Note: The Amtrak train leaves as scheduled so no farting around. I've been taking the Amtrak regularly since summer of 2012 so I can now comment on what separates an average station from a great one. This is bigger Amtrak station since it also serves the Metrolink and there's also buses going to San Diego and Tijuana. The train station is big so there's everything from bathrooms to a little souvenir shop. The reason why I'm making a deal out of those two things is because Old Town doesn't have a damn bathroom which sucks. This station also has free parking for 72 hours which is freaking great! You can leave you car here and head over to San Diego for the weekend and not have to worry about your car. The train station is also very nice looking. It reminds me a lot of a Spanish hacienda. It's always great to see nice train stations in California since a lot of the ones I've encountered don't have anything interesting going on. As for the Amtrak itself what can I say? I see a lot of people complain about how the train is late but this is public transportation! Stuff happens! Europeans are used to trains being late but a train is late here and everyone starts freaking out. Just roll with the flow and accept it. If you're complaining then just drive out to your destination! You'll most likely encounter some traffic and then pay for parking wherever it is that you're going. The Amtrak is generally extremely busy on Saturday and Sunday at 8pm (if you're heading southbound) which is the second to last train of the day. I would recommend you to take the last train if you can since it's generally really empty and perfect if you want to sleep. It is seldom late as well. I have a love/hate relationship with the Amtrak but I would rather take the train than be driving north. Book in advance when you can and if you travel as often as I do then consider getting a 10-ride pass. read more

I suggest leaving from Santa Ana though because parking is free, if your leaving from LA. Try not to travel on mother's day or even comi con weekend because the train gets packed. What a fucking joke the train is. The conductors are useless. Going from Santa Ana to Solana Beach for a day at the races. Of course, the train is packed. After going up and down the train on both levels for the first 15 minutes there was no 2 seats together for my girlfriend and me. The conductors know the train is going to be full. Why wouldn't they make the single riders that don't know each other sit together so groups of 2 can sit together? Or how about designating one coach for single riders? On top of this, a very nice lady that was next to us was made to move from her seat so a family of 4 could sit together. Why do they get special treatment? Make them split up too. When the lady complained about being moved the conductor's response was "well you don't have to take the train". Who the fuck do you think you are talking to her like that? So I try to go to Amtrak.com and complain but their website is as bad as the conductors. It's a damn good thing they for them that don't have any competition because this is a horribly run business. read more

I take Amtrak from Santa Ana to solana beach all the time to see family. It's way better than driving. I love the staff and the accommodations they have for persons with disabilities. I take my clients on this train and they are very happy. I would prefer to take Amtrak to San Francisco, sacramento and truckee as these are places I need to frequent and there is no trains that go there without having to switch to a bus. That's why I choose 4 stars! I know it costs money but I would rather the city spend money on railroad tracks then more freeways. read more
