I have taken the Northeast Regional line and the Acela line. I like the Acela best because you can snag single seats, but the Northeast Regional has also been wonderful. The Amtrak employees are AMAZING. I've now taken several trips with this same crew, from DC to Baltimore to New Haven. They are SOLID people you feel safe with. For example, I fell asleep once and missed my stop. The conductor/employee helped me off and to find the train to get on to get back to my intended destination. This time around, the employee/conductor told me that I could get off in CT at State Street, which is what was on my ticket, but I would have to stay on the train much longer because they would have to turn around and re-align the trains. He gave me the tip that most passengers get off at Union station (SO close to State Street, it's a negligible distance). Then he took enough care to come back by again to tell me that Union was the next station if I wanted to get off. The cafe car was also wonderful. His credit card machine stopped working. I told him that I had cash, but made the joke that I didn't look forward to walking the LONG walk from the cafe car back to business class to get that cash. He offered to COME TO ME to get the cash later, and he did! Tipped him majorly! Business class is more expensive than coach, we are talking two to three times the price, but you get to choose your seat. On this particular line, it's never been full and I've never had anyone sitting next to me. It's worth it to me, but for some, it may not be. Cafe car has plenty of drinks and snacks. Sandwiches, cheese and cracker trays, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Nothing fancy, but gets the job done. But I can't get over how these guys have seemingly looked out for me and taken care of me on my many trips up and down the rails. read more

My amtrak to the city was wonderful. We were delayed though thanks to people not complying with the mask mandate they agreed to. The Amtrak on the way back though left a lot to be desired. I unfortunately had to sit across from people and the girl sat with her shoes off on the seats and nobody said anything to her. Now I know to take an even later train the next time. read more

The most horrible ordeal. Both ways from Ct to RI the train broke down for 5 hours.!!! I missed my sisters's surgery. No one tried to help. And you can't talk to a soul to get your money back. It's quite a scam.. works to their advantage. It was $100 each way. Never again. Be careful trusting this rail line. They were totally unprepared for this and I'm told it happens ALL THE TIME. No food or drinks left for passengers either. I'd rather walk. Awful people. read more

AMTRAK I have to use them on the weekends recently and their service is extremely poor NEVER on time at all and certain places the go my take Amtrak riders even though they shared CTRail riders as well they are always SOLD out because they because certain cars are BLOCKED off coming from NYC.. They are are always DELAYED sometimes for hours, track issues and whatever other issues they might have ESPECIALLY on SUNDAYS and don't let it rain it's worse...Every week the 750pm and the 950pn is always late never on schedule at all... I wished I could give them a better rating not deserving I do not know why CTRAIL do not have more schedules going to Hartford on Sunday except for the 730 but you can go into New Haven 11pm.. CTRail also needs to step up their game with more morning services on Saturday 815pm and 930pm and do away with Amtrak services.....Recently they are having a lot of Amtrak accidents in many parts of the states read more

It was really nice for my 1st train ride experience, everyone was helpful because we had no idea where to go. The Cafe bar was limited in their selection of food but pretty decent in breakfast sandwiches, fruit and snacks. They do have adult beverages and Water, Soda. I liked it but the other half got motion sickness lol. read more

Although I'm not a fan of trains, by accident, I wound up in the quiet car. Nice, clean seats, comfortable ride, and no cell phone tsk allowed--I feel like the old days! Suggest getting to the station early to park, grab a sandwich, and relax a bit, instead of running in at the last minute like a few people did. Makes it more enjoyable! read more

This is an average train station. Currently the down elevator is under construction, so you have to utilize the elevators or stairs. This location has quite a few food options and there are plenty of agents & kiosks available to assist you in your ticket purchases. This station is screaming for a deep clean. This includes the bathrooms. Those need both a deep clean as well as full renovation. Just old & disgusting. read more

My daughter and I took Amtrak for the 2nd time from Hartford, CT-transfer in New Haven, CT to Norfolk, VA and we loved it. Because Hartford isn't a major station, we had to transfer trains in New Haven. This was difficult for me since I had my daughter and suitcases. However, a helpful rider helped me during the transfer. Also note that Amtrak so has workers who help those needing assistance, however, it can take long. The rider from New Haven to Norfolk was pleasant. The seats and storage were roomy. And each seat has charging ports. We stopped in DC for 30 minutes and we were able to get off to get food. DC station is pretty busy and it is easy to get lost, definitely try to remember the location of the train. read more

This was one of the nicer Amtrak Stations. It had some decent food options - Subway and Dunkin Donuts. The convenience store also had some decent snack items. The bathrooms are reasonably clean and the ticket agents are friendly. read more

I left an important belonging on the train by mistake and the conductor refused to let me back on the train, saying repeatedly that I'd "just have to buy a new one." It's sad that Amtrak is basically my only option for train travel. After the experience I just had, I'd gladly seek another option. read more

Got on the Acela to Philadelphia. Got to the train station 5 minutes before departure and had to change my ticket. The person there worked very fast to make the changes and told me to run. Got on the train just before the doors closed. The conductor was helpful in finding a place for my bag. Great service all around. So far I am off to a good start. read more

I wish I could say something nice. My mama always told me, "if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all." But sometimes you just gotta speak the truth, even if its ugly. I love trains. If I could, I would take the train everyday. I commute between Boston and New Haven on the regular, and driving up 91 to 84 to the MASS Pike is no treat. The traffic sucks. The weather is horrible. People drive like nuts, flying by you at a buck-10, swerving in-and-out, on their cellulars, flipping the bird, and smoking a cig at the same time. Dangerous, stressful, and long, that is the way to describe any automobile journey between the two points. I'd love to take the train, but no, Amtrak, you won't let me. If you want to get to Boston at any reasonable hour, Amtrak used to just run the regional. But the regional wasn't good enough. So they upgraded to the accela express. Express my @$$! And it's my only choice. Either that or the 4:40a.m. No discounts ever on the accela. Always $100 + one way, no matter if you buy it a year in advance. So it's either $25 for the dangerous, stressful, scary drive down America's crumbling interstate highway system, or $100 for a slow, rickety @$$ train with super-plush seating, overpriced food, and occasional wi-fi. I can get to beantown 4 times for the price of 1 accela ticket. So I just can't smell it, no matter how much the commute sucks, and how nice the train is. . . The accela is just a way for the wealthy consultant class to get away from the unwashed plebs that make up the backbone of America. Unless you are writing the journey off on your company expense account, there is absolutely no way you would ever consider dropping that kind of dough for a one way ticket. No way. . . So you drive. . . driving gives you road rage. . . Feel my rage Amtrak. You could be the solution, but instead you're just part of the problem. (I use the second person because corporations are people and deserve to be yelled at like people). . . My advice to you Amtrak, and I know you won't take it. . . You've got some well heeled consultant-type telling you to stick it out, that margins are up, that traffic is good, that you are reaching the right demographic. . . But I'll give it to you anyway. . . as hard as I can. . . How about you stop trying to squeeze every penny you can out of your busted @$$, dilapidated, rails and reinvest in a true high-speed network that can handle high-volume traffic at a reasonable price? Or would that make too much sense? America used to be a great country. We had the greatest infrastructure in the world. Now look at what we've got. A quazi-governmental corporation that screws over the taxpayer before turning their greedy, beady little money grubbing eyes towards the consumer. Supply and demand? Where is the supply? I've got a demand, but not at that price point. Problem is there is no competition, so those of us unwilling to fork over exorbitant stashes of cash for a sub-par jaunt down a rusty, 100-year-old track are $h!t out of luck. Customer service stinks. Agents unavailable after 9 and you can't get any info.about the tracks their trains are arriving/departing. When you call for the info you are on hold for 30 to 45 minutes and then the agent says "I apologize but we do not have that info. " the station agents should have it. Fine, no Amtrak station agents and the metro agents give you wrong info. because they don't work for Amtrak. read more

I usually take another train, if I can, because Amtrak can be pricey, but when Amtrak is my only option I look forward to the ride. It's quiet, clean, cool, and has free wi-fi. You can really relax. But what prompted this review is their response to my crisis a couple days ago. I had put my backpack in the overhead baggage area, and forgot it when I got off the train. By the time I remembered, the train was moving. This bag had my computer and all my favorite clothes. I went to the information desk, and they called the train and got someone to find the back and secure it. Then they sent it back as checked luggage on another train and I picked it up next time I went to the station. Of course, this is how you expect any business to react, but sometimes it doesn't work out so well--and when I came so close to losing precious valuables, I really appreciated the swiftness and assertiveness with which Amtrak acted. read more

I booked a train with a baggage car because I had to bring home property I had inherited in another state. The ticket I purchased entitled me to two checked bags complimentary. 6 hours before my train was to leave I got a call informing me that the train would not have a baggage car and I could no longer bring my two checked bags. I had to get to work, so taking a train 36 hours later (the next one they could accommodate me on) was not an option. I had to leave my cargo (the whole purpose for the trip) with a friend and have someone ship it to me. Amtrak still charged me for the full amount. Their customer service employee gave me a half hearted apology but refused to refund any of the fare. Basically, they sold me a service they didn't deliver on, then kept the money. read more
