There is an interesting underground path that takes you to the main station. It is a very small station compared to others in New York City or Philly. There was a small gift shop and a Dunkin Donuts which had a large line. Outside there was a crowd of people waiting for an Uber or the local bus to downtown. It cost about $20 each way from the city. It was only my first time in New Haven so I didn't know what to compare it to. It was a cloudy rainy day so everyone seemed miserable. I would have to come back here on a sunny day to see if there is a difference.

I have taken the Northeast Regional line and the Acela line. I like the Acela best because you can…read moresnag single seats, but the Northeast Regional has also been wonderful. The Amtrak employees are AMAZING. I've now taken several trips with this same crew, from DC to Baltimore to New Haven. They are SOLID people you feel safe with. For example, I fell asleep once and missed my stop. The conductor/employee helped me off and to find the train to get on to get back to my intended destination. This time around, the employee/conductor told me that I could get off in CT at State Street, which is what was on my ticket, but I would have to stay on the train much longer because they would have to turn around and re-align the trains. He gave me the tip that most passengers get off at Union station (SO close to State Street, it's a negligible distance). Then he took enough care to come back by again to tell me that Union was the next station if I wanted to get off. The cafe car was also wonderful. His credit card machine stopped working. I told him that I had cash, but made the joke that I didn't look forward to walking the LONG walk from the cafe car back to business class to get that cash. He offered to COME TO ME to get the cash later, and he did! Tipped him majorly! Business class is more expensive than coach, we are talking two to three times the price, but you get to choose your seat. On this particular line, it's never been full and I've never had anyone sitting next to me. It's worth it to me, but for some, it may not be. Cafe car has plenty of drinks and snacks. Sandwiches, cheese and cracker trays, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Nothing fancy, but gets the job done. But I can't get over how these guys have seemingly looked out for me and taken care of me on my many trips up and down the rails.

My amtrak to the city was wonderful. We were delayed though thanks to people not complying with the…read moremask mandate they agreed to. The Amtrak on the way back though left a lot to be desired. I unfortunately had to sit across from people and the girl sat with her shoes off on the seats and nobody said anything to her. Now I know to take an even later train the next time.

This is a better location for picking up your family members or close friends. You can avoid the…read morecrowds and there usually is no difficulty finding parking. It is only useful if you know, the trains are running on time. Union Station is located nearby and is good for purchasing tickets and making connections. It is also convenient if you want to check if the train is being delayed.

This is one of the best LIRR train stations for several reasons. First, it's in Port Jefferson, the…read morecoolest hangout spot on the north shore of Long Island. Second, a mile away is the Port Jefferson ferry to Bridgeport CT, which makes this station one of a rare few to have a corresponding ferry nearby. Third, there's always parking. Fourth, if you live in town, there's a dedicated resident parking lot. Fifth, there are bike racks. Sixth, it's located in upper Port Jefferson, within a short walking distance from plenty of shopping areas. Seventh, it's very well maintained, unlike some other LIRR stations. Eighth, parking is allowed and free 24/7.

There are two platforms with for 4 tracks. There's elevator. The station is clean and there's a security office with cops, as well as a sandwich and coffee shop. There's plenty of seating in the waiting room, and again, it's very clean and well heated. Very organized. There are parking garages close by. The train to Grand Central is convenient and clean, with good service.

One of the best things about this station is that it's directly connected to the Bridgeport Bus Terminal, so you can easily transfer to pretty much any local or regional bus from here, super convenient if you don't drive. There is a commuter parking garage nearby on Main Street. It's affordable on weekdays (about $6/day), but heads-up: it's closed on weekends, so plan ahead if you're traveling then. It feels a bit safe here, there's usually a police car parked outside, and the station is pretty well lit. It's not fancy, but it gets the job done and the location makes it easy to get around.

My friend is big into old historical buildings with intricate architecture and I'll admit it, I like it too. This place is like a little city. Besides transportation, there's plenty of shops and restaurants. So much history in this building. I can't help but think of all those who had to say goodbye to their loved ones as they took their long travels out of this terminal. There's so many photo ops and it's soooo large, you can spend hours here exploring.
