I have left around 2pm and returned around at 10pm. I feel the station is always busy and plenty of people coming and going. I feel safe when I travel out of Central Islip. Plus, they have more parking and brighter lights than most stations. Don't forget you have MTA police literally down the next block.

The station has a decent size parking lot and a very small sitting area which closes at 4/5 p.m. I have a separate beef with MTA and LIRR but that is a separate issue. Peak hour trains come in the morning towards Manhattan twice an hour from 6-9 am. The train time from KP to Penn Station during peak is anywhere between an hour thirteen minutes to an hour and twenty two minutes. On the weekends and or off peak hours its about 20 minutes more, aka fooooget about it.

The station house has one bathroom, a few shelves of books, and a little newsstand; everything you need and nothing you don't. A few fresh coats of paint would honestly do wonders for the place, but it seems to be holding up. At the very least it smells clean enough. There's only one platform, and it looks similarly dilapidated, though serviceable. The neighborhood is nothing to write home about either, unless you're really into E-list historical landmarks.

And the Speonk waiting area is right by the track, whereas in Westhampton you would have to walk a few minutes to the platform. All in all, pretty good station. There are no bathrooms at the station. There is a coffee shop near the train station that opens 6am to 6pm. Overall, I enjoy the convenience of this station. The first time I used it I was confused by the ticketing machine. Now I use the MTA train time app which is more convenient and easier to use. It provides live updates regarding delays and track changes.
