Fast, prompt, and comfortable ride. Ill definitely use this more often to travel. Better than driving. There's wifi and a cafe.

Cool little station, enterprise fish company shares parking lot so you can grab a nice bite. I took the train from San Diego to SB for a quick get away. For $4 you can leave your bag at the station and walk around before getting on the train home. Lots of cool restaurants within a close walk. Super helpful staff. Call Amtrak ahead of time to get the best rates. Plenty of parking, lots of cabs should you need. The Coast Starlight will take you north without all the annoying stops that the other trains have. It's a 9 hr trip to the Bay which leaves plenty of time for reading, work, movies and naps. You can take carrying luggage, pillows, a blanket and even a small cooler in case you get thirsty. Party train to SF anyone? read more

Worst service I have ever had. Don't go to this Amtrak, they do not have their stuff together. My helper, Moises did very little help for me. He was abruptly rude to my little sister and I, and did very little help. He also then insulted me to my face. Honestly, I can't believe they let someone like that man work in a social place. Completely ridiculous, and I will not go there again due to the bad service I have encountered. Employees like that man should not be hired for a job like that. Instead, people like that should be hired to clean up elephant shit at the circus because that is the only potential scums like him have. read more

Worst train station configuration for Amtrak so that I missed the train, even though I arrived ahead of time. The train waiting in the station was too long that it blocked the all traffic intersections that lead to the station. It lied in the intersection in front of me with a flashing red road road crossing light, while the station is just on the other side of train. This created a dead lock situation: the train was waiting for me but it blocked me from getting to it. read more

Public transportation near the bottom of the barrel. Train is often late, south of LA; business class reservation (nicer, but not necessary) is invalid if you miss your train and don't call to cancel, and the entire ticket is invalid. If you have to be somewhere, I would drive or fly. If you have lots of leisure time, the train, especially the ocean side, can be lovely. But this is clearly for casual travelers, not business travelers, or anyone with a timeline. read more

Great venue but horrible timing. You would think the train would be convenient but I've been on this train for 15 hours when I only should've been on it for 10 hours. Conductors and other workers are very rude. Except for the man working the concession stand with the food and drinks. Just be careful when using the Amtrak train for long distance. read more

Train ride home was cancelled had to take first train home the next morning. Between hotel, cab fare, missed wages and purchasing additional tickets was over $500 out of pocket. We were in the cafe car the air was broken as well as the restroom. Imagine being stuck in a hot overflowing portapotty for 5 hours. It an awful way to end a beautiful anniversary weekend. Ticket checkers were not friendly or apologetic for the situation. The first one scolded us for having only 2 people at a table and said we may be asked to move if a family wants it as it requires a party of 3, he acted like he didn't smell the stench and acted surprised the bathroom was broken. Got to Union station and they acted like they fixed it. A supervisor got on watching the guys working and at the top of his lungs shoutingJESUS CHRIST IT STINKS WHAT IS GOING ON HERE. WHY DOES IT STINK SO BAD? WHY IS IT SO HOT IN HERE? THERE IS NO AIR! After they pretended to fix it, The First Lady who used the bathroom came out and told the lady waiting in line that it wouldn't flush so she might want to use a different bathroom. Yay us... We got to smell poop the rest of the way home. The ticket checker who got on at Union station also started to scold us that we were not supposed to sit at group table and I interrupted that the bathroom was broken and she said that they weren't supposed to unlock it, of course it doesn't work the air is broken in this car. She proceeds to lock it without putting an out of order sign on it. We wrote out of order on a cup and put it on the handle as people would wait thinking that someone was occupying it. I had high hopes that Amtrak would be better. My husband now calls Amtrak the Poop train. A normal business would not survive a day with this kind of service from the crappy attitudes to the horrific environment you are trapped in just to get home. If I were you I would seriously weigh your savings vs. plane or driving a car, because Amtrak litterally stinks. I will update with my request for reimbursement. Ps the only reason I included cost of cab is because we had family to pick us up on Sunday but they were at work on Monday read more

very convenient, especially during the holidays when it can get pretty chaotic with all those people traveling. the train itself was very spacious when i rode on it with family during a trip. didn't seem so sanitary though but you can't expect much from a train right? amtrak's the way to go when you want to avoid traffic. read more

I frequently take the bus/train combo when traveling from Nor Cali to So Cali and almost always have a stop in Santa Barbara. The train station itself is very charming and reminds me of Union Station in LA- very old and historic. Unfortunately, the general property is overrun by homeless and "interesting" characters. And don't even get me started on the bathroom... Let's just say, it would probably be more sanitary for me to find a tree and not wash my hands than it would be using the bathroom at the Santa Barbara Train Station. They have coded locks on the doors, but the code seems to be well known to the "transient train population" who use the bathroom as their bedrooms/bathrooms, etc. The station doesn't have a lot of indoor seating which forces passengers to sit outside in the sun. Not a lot of comfort at this station. Another observation was watching the front desk representative hit on almost every female passage who approached the ticket counter. It was like watching a bad reality show on how to be a gross and sleazy when you work behind a ticket counter. EEEW! I definitely dread this train station more than the dentist, but it's a forced pitstop on the Amtrak journey, so be sure you get a hepatitis shot immediately after your departure from the Santa Barbara Train Station! read more

This review is more for the Amtrak trip experience than the SB station it's self. I took the Coast Starlight train (#11) from Chico down to Santa Barbara. It took a little over 15 hours for the trip and cost a bit over $100 for my standard coach ticket. The trip was relaxing for the first few hours, but drove me stir crazy during the last half. The seats are comfortable enough (bring a pillow and blanket for max comfort, the AC runs cold!) and the view is beautiful, especially in the lounge car. But on the down side the bathrooms were FILTHY, nasty smelling with pee and toilet paper everywhere. I don't think anyone bothered to clean them during the whole trip. The food in the little snack shop is bad and expensive.. nearly $6 for a microwaved cheeseburger? The food in the dining car isn't much better so bring your own if you can. All seats had outlets for charging your personal devices which was nice, but the Wifi did not work at all during the whole trip. Several people brought it up to the staff and their response was that it's messed up and usually doesn't work. If that is the case then maybe they should stop falsely advertising that they have working Wifi! Overall the train is an ok was to travel provided you are willing to devote your entire day to it because it is slow to begin with and often delayed. It would easily be made better if they would improve the quality of the food they offer and do a much better job keeping the restrooms clean. read more

When I need to travel into Southern California I will take the Amtrak from Santa Barbara if I can. I live an hour north in Santa Maria and hitch rides to Amtrak with friends who work in Santa Barbara. The station is two blocks from the beach and when I say beach, I mean Pacific Ocean! It is so beautiful. The staff at the station are respectful and helpful. It is clean and the best part is when I board the train and get to see the ocean for miles and miles without having to watch the road. Amtrak when I can! read more

For starters I just want to say that overall it was a good experience for me because I realized people are even shittier than I thought. Wifi sucked. I had to use LTE the whole time which was annoying. My daughter tried to speak to one of the conductors but he looked at her and acted as if he didn't hear her. Like what the hell? You can't answer my daughters simple question? Whatever. The food wasn't bad but next time I will be bringing my own food options. Even though most of the workers are mean and stupid, the other passengers seem to be easy to talk to. I enjoyed the people I was sitting near and we had a blast talking to each other. I had booked our tickets hours in advance. Our train was supposed to depart at 5:30 pm but ended up leaving at 6:20. Not only that but it was a school night and my daughter was already pretty sick so she wanted to be home so that she didn't get other people sick that were on the train. It was a fine ride but could've been greatly improved read more
