Terrible experience with Amvets. Scheduled a pickup for today. I had my furniture outside of my apartment complex by 8am. They did not pickup my couch or 2 chairs both in good condition. I called and she told me the driver said there was a hole in the couch which there is not...it is raining today so some of the things may have gotten wet but that is only because they give you a pickup window of 8am-5pm. If they told me a more exact time the furniture would not have been sitting in the rain. I won't be using Amvets again. They ruined a perfectly good couch that someone could have used. I suggest you find somewhere your donations will be appreciated. read more

We called and scheduled a pickup for yesterday from Amvets. I had everything out by 8am where it sat all day in the rain. I didn't think they showed up then found the donation receipt stuck on the mailbox at the end of the driveway this morning. Guess I have to find someone else now to come pick up the soggy mess. read more

Scheduled for Friday, April 6th and after pulling loads of stuff out of the shed and bagging/boxing, waited until 3 and stuff still sitting. Finally called the 800 number and was told "I did NOT?" have a pickup scheduled for this day (was sent an email CONFIRMING pickup from AMVETS) but then after further review, she found that I did not have a pickup because trucks weren't in my area on that day???? WTH??? Anyway, she said they would pick up on Saturday (next day). In turn, I phoned the number in Laurel and spoke with a nice lady who then informed me the truck had broken down and they would call back to confirm another date. She phoned back later in the week to confirm a Friday pickup (April 13th) and again NO SHOW/NO CALL. read more

This company really needs to do better by supervising it's drivers This is the second time that I have pulled things out only to have to drag the stuff to goodwill. Clearly they don't want or need donations I say take your stuff to the salvation army or goodwill where it is appreciated I am now asking to be removed from their call list read more

My comments apply to whatever branch of AMVETS coordinates and does donation pickups in Centreville, VA. My family attempted to donate about 14 boxes of men's, women's, and kids' clothing, toys, and baby gear, all in used but good condition. I say "attempted" because they stood us up 3 times in one week for scheduled pickups. The first one we received a note on our mailbox saying, "sorry we missed you" despite the items being clearly visible and labeled on our porch while we were home all day. The second two scheduled pickups, no one ever came. The day of the third attempt, I even called twice to make sure we were on the route and was assured repeatedly that we were on the list and the driver would not miss us again. No one came, no one called. We'll be taking our donations elsewhere from now on. read more

I scheduled a pickup with the manager for 11/16/18 more than 2 weeks ago after receiving their card in my mailbox. Came home on my lunch break at 1 pm to find items still in front of my house. Called the 800 number, gave my name/address to confirm they were still coming. Was told they would be there before 5 pm. Got home from work at 4 pm, items still sitting there. Called again and was told all vehicles in my area had left for the day. Explained that I called at 1 pm and was told truck still coming. Explained that I had someone move the furniture items because they were too heavy for me to do alone; to which she says "sorry, but we had 3 trucks breakdown and the other 2 have come back". After having the manager call me back this evening saying she would talk to the fleet manager to have a truck come Saturday morning, she called me back to say someone would not be coming until Tuesday 11/20/18. This was after she and I spoke to the office supervisor who stated "J... has to go through me". Clearly a waste of my time and energy having to clean and have someone set the items out in front of my home. A waste of my money because I now have to pay again to have them removed so I don't get cited by the homeowner's association. Will not be donating items again. I know they are needed by veterans and others, but this caused me an unnecessary expense along with time waiting to have the items removed. Can't even have them put back into my home because other furniture was delivered the same day. read more

This review isn't about just this one store. Its about this so called nonprofit company. Because I have to rate with a star, only get one but I really rate this company ZERO stars because the whole experience was horrible. I grew up with a whole family of vets. Not only that I was raised to understand to TRULY GIVE without being selfish. This company pick and chooses on what they want to take to DONATE to others! Everyone knows that when you are giving away an item it has been used at some point. So yes a little damage and yes a little worn down but its still good and stable or wearable. So when you walk into a thrift store or donation store you as a customer already know to expect damage or something. My mom who is a disabled vet and myself are donating some furniture, it has a few scratches and one broken drawer but the drawer is fixable. That's it, nothing is falling off or to bad ,its not NEW we have had this furniture for some years. This company did not tell us in full detail that they don't take scratched furniture, even so WHY NOT? Its nothing wrong with it, even Marlow furniture still sell scratched furniture. So one is a whole set and then there's a coffee table and a big huge heavy dresser. They took half of the set and left the others. How dare you all be picky on stuff we are giving you to help others. If they wanted newer fresher furniture they would go buy it at such a place, you all suppose to be HELPING people all about giving, your in the business of giving hand me downs or second hand, there's that saying another man's trash is another man's treasure well our trash is still our treasure just don't have room for it anymore,instead of selling it we gave it to you because we believe you were about helping those who needs a little pick me up. Now I know your not and I am deeply sad that you all have my precious childhood memories and don't respect it. Never again will you receive anything from me. Its really sad how thrift stores or whatever are lazy and don't actually help. Everything is recyclable or fixable at some point even people need a little fix me up sometimes. No one or nothing is perfect,especially after a point in life. We all break down at some point........ Really disappointed and hurt. read more
