This is a pretty good thrifting location. It was smaller than I expected for a Value Village but still a decent size. I mostly shop for clothes and they have a great shoe section and a well organized bag section. There are no changing rooms here. The bathrooms were clean and nice but you do have to walk through a staff area to get to them. I found some really great pieces here! Some Value Village tips- think carefully about which day to come. Mondays and Thursdays have 25% off sales but they are busy. Weekends are busy too. You can always get a 20% off coupon if you donate. Also, since there are no changing rooms wear something close fitting so you can try on clothes over what you're wearing. read more

What can I say besides, there are always gems to be found at Value Village. I donate really high quality children's clothing here and I feel like the good thrifting energy comes back to me lol. I've gotten a great pair of Levi's that I then turned into shorts, a North Face vest, graphic tees, overall high quality stuff. Also, another trick is that if you go on a Monday, everything is 25% off, who doesn't like to save extra?! I've also gotten some good toys because we know kids can go through some toys or develop beyond particular toys relatively quickly. The only unfortunate thing here is that sometimes there may be a person in the front asking for change etc. Overall, Value Village is the place to come to if you have an open mind and maybe a little imagination too. Back to reality and me attempting to find quirky pieces for my new apartment. I am one that would rather browse through a good thrift store to find something to reuse than buy new. Especially since my taste is eclectic and I don't mind that nothing matches that I have. I am in need a few items that aren't necessary but would allow for my apartment to finally function correctly. I came here in hopes of finding said items and was left a bit down. It's not entirely their fault as what they have for purchase all depends on what they have donated. I did take my time in their furniture area in hopes of finding something to take home, but it was fruitless. I ended up browsing a few other areas in here in hopes of finding different things, but I wasn't lucky in the least this day. I do enjoy how huge this place is. They do offer a lot of things if you have the time to browse. Like, you might need the whole day to come in here and just go over everything. The biggest thing I didn't like about this spot was the parking lot. Given that they are doing roadwork right outside on the main drag, this might be alleviated in the near future (or however long it takes the state to complete the ongoing roadway improvements). read more

I like to thrift. I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by, to get a look. First of all, if you're going realize there is construction, massive pot holes, dips, pits, broken lights in the neighborhood. My brother in law lives about 3 miles away from this location. I visited 4 years ago and the "construction" has had little to no progress. Just be aware and add 15-20 extra minutes to your ride. The whole area is a mess. The store is huge. Lots of people, lots of different items if you're looking to thrift for clothes, housewares and other items for the house. I was shopping for clothes, particularly jeans. The selection is big but hard to find your way through. Most clothing stores hang from the top (the waist) these folks hang from the side (??). Jumbled sizes made looking difficult. A 40x30 pair hanging next to 32x30. I moved on to shirts, flannel and otherwise. Same jumbled mess of sizes. Lots of colors, styles and prints. If you're looking for something different at a good price and you can find it, this is your store. After a while I gave up looking and went exploring the rest of the store. Lots of stuff if you're moving in or looking for a change. Then it was back to the potholes and disastrous endless construction. No good pictures to take as the lighting isn't the best inside. read more

I came here to donate items, as I was purging my closet. I decided to to stop and look inside. It is a huge store. Not the best, or organized. The staffing is to the bare minimal. The care more for checking you at out. I would recommend carrying some hand sanitizer. So, I love finding things to flip for my e commerce store, I love finding shoes to flip. I was able to find some nice Nike Airs, Sam Edelmans, and Coachs shoes to flip. The prices here are reasonable. In the housewares, you can find some gems, I saw some almost brand new crock pots, ista pots and other brand new appliances, but I would test them out before leaving the store. Any clothes you take I recommend 1 or 2 washes, and disinfect any appliances you buy. read more

This place is beyond wonderful. Imagine you find yourself in a predicament. It's a few days before Halloween. You're going on a caving trip where the most creative trail clubs from around the Mideast are converging for a giant party. And you need to look bad-ass. Sound unlikely? You may very well find yourself in this very situation, so what should you do? Go to Value Village! I found white pants, a tan belt, a killer hat, and a blue button up shirt (with lapels!) for under $20 altogether. A few miniature plastic baggies filled with flour later, and I'm a goddamn Colombian drug lord (see photos). But it's really just a great thrift store. Tons of stuff, down to even the most obscure things, including - no kidding - the stuffed and mounted ass of a deer with a slightly missing left leg. This place is well worth your time, and your meager paycheck. And to top it all off, the profits go to the children's charity that runs the place. Not bad, huh? read more

Oh Value Village...I don't know what I would do without you. Basically there are aisles and aisles of used clothing, as well as sections for blankets, shoes, toys, bikes, furniture, cookware, and any kind of random object you can think of. Surprisingly, they have really cute baby clothes. The prices are very strange--everything is either ridiculously cheap or ridiculously overpriced. You can get a couch for $10, but the backend of a deer mounted on the wall is $250. You can get an entire outfit for $8 or buy an enormous kimono for $300. This is a great place to buy some cheap clothes/household stuff or just go exploring for treasures within the endless aisles of random shit. read more

So Value Village and Unique thrift are the same chain. There's a handful of them in the DC metro area. I've been to all of them, and currently this is my favorite. I have found in my thrift experience, a thrift in an easy metro accessible area, or near a high traffic/volume area is going to be over picked and overpriced. You would have to drive to this place or take a bus. They have a decent amount of furniture in the front area, and I seem to buy more at the place than the other places. As with any Value Village/Unique Thrift if you get a Member's appreciation card (free) everything is 25% on Thursdays. Every Monday everyone gets 25% off. AND when there's a 3 day weekend, like memorial day or labor day, that Monday EVERYTHING IS 50% OFF!!! Although, on the half off days it used to be a mad house, now it's just very busy. Do yourself a favor and don't go the Tuesday after a half of Monday there will be NOTHING left. read more

This is my regular thrift store. An actual thrift store, not a "consignment shop" or some other foolishness. Pros: Well organized Good selection of clothes if you're stylish and in your 20's or are plus sized. I find a good selection and I'm a size 8 Mixed variety or name brands. Cons: No fitting rooms but the fitting rooms at VV Hillandale stink so I prefer to try on in the aisle. The floors collect this white powder dust so keep that in mind when trying on skirts or pants--- they will collect the dust. I never seem to find shoes or the shoes they have are overpriced compared to the clothes Prices can be hit or miss. I have found dope blazers and pants for 3 dollars and somethings priced at 12, 14- which is high for me. Discounts: Monday are 25% off for everyone Thursdays are 25% off if you have a "VIP card" and you can't get a card on Thursdays so be sure to request them Holidays are 50% off- I have gotten great deals on Holidays but my goodness....I don't know that it's worth it. It's a mad house. I see reviews saying it's packed but when I go in the evenings around 6 pm, Furniture: Pretty hit or miss but it's worth a visit, I found two beautiful chairs for 6 dollars, and saw an adorable vintage couch for for 35 bucks plus 25% off. I think it's worth the look but you may find that Hillandale will have more furniture selection-- but not necessarily better looking. read more

I visited this store in December in search of an ugly Christmas sweater and cookie tins. While I found some tins, the cheapest ones were $2 and were plain green or red. I could get cute new cookie tins at Dollar Tree for a buck! Additionally, the housewares section was gross! They were selling pots and pans that looked as if they'd never been washed by the previous owners. I understand not everyone can or wants to buy expensive pans but go to Marshall's and buy a new, CLEAN pan for $8 instead of Value Village- it's not a value if you're going to get sick from using it! I give VV props for recognizing ugly sweaters are a thing now and displaying the majority of them up front near the registers. I didn't find anything since they were mostly in plus sizes but oh well. I browsed the rest of the store but it was awkward because the shoppers were kind of aggressive. Relax little Guatemalan lady, I don't want the Aeropostale shirt you seem to be so interested in! The book section is actually very nicely organized and I've been meaning to go back for another look. I also like that to make a donation, you simply pull up and dump your stuff outside at the designated area. No human interaction, yay! read more

I haven't tried donating but I bought some great bargains here--a martini mixer, 6 cereal bowls, some socks, blue jeans (just tried them on under my elastic waisted skirt), a silk tie,a brass candle holder, and a blender and hairdryer (you can plug in to see if they work) -- all for less than $40! And new stuff was coming on to the floor the whole time. I didn't buy but saw a Med woman's full length leather coat for $12.99, some almost antique wooden furniture, and more bags and shoes and shirts and hats and gloves. The place is very big and seems well organized, labeled and priced according to quality and usage, so you will definitely get a bargain. Takes credit cards! read more

I've been a VV shopper since way back in the day. I just recently visited this location and managed to get 5 items of clothing and 3 needed household things for $33. Where else can you pick up that adorable (but overpriced) soap dispenser you saw at Target last year for 99 cents? Oh and one of those sweaters I bought? Cashmere. In perfect condition. Sweet. Yes I agree with previous reviewers that there's no place to try stuff on so you do take fate into your hands when you purchase items like pants. And when I arrived, many pieces of furniture were getting rained on in the parking lot -- but where else can I find multiple choices of knife block at multiple prices? My most recent shopping trip to Value Village in Hyattsville Maryland was today. I came in to get some work pants because their prices are pretty affordable/bargain price for work pants(the listed brand of the pants is Express Design Studio). I prefer to come to this place for my work pants for both the discount prices and the reasonable amount of time that the pants last after I buy them (I currently get black jean pants for my current place of employment). I've been to four area locations and this is the worst! Not as clean & organized and the prices are higher.

Value Village is HUGE and requires much patience and time to sift through. There is no dressing room, so come in leggings or other close-fitting clothing to try on at the mirrors (note ladies- you will most likely get harrassed by random male shoppers while doing so- I would pay them no mind). Prices are sometimes absurdly too high. They may be artificially inflated to compensate for 50% off days (every holiday) and other discount days. Quality varies drastically - from H&M tops to a new with tags Escada dress. This VV has far less furniture than the New Hampshire Ave location, but has a better clothing selection in my opinion. Oh - and it's probably THE best place to find books (bestsellers, cookbooks, etc). read more

The store is like standing in someone's closet. The perfect place to buy toys for kids, clothes for little ones who grow too quick and bargain hunters. College students could furnish their rooms and stay within budget. The prices have increased in the past year or so. Sale days (25%) off on Monday and Thursday (with a free VIP card). There are frequent 50% off sales, which are not the most fun times to be in the store. Donations are easy. The employees will take bags from your car and hand you a donation receipt. After all these glowing reviews on Yelp, I half expected the heavens to part open and a blinding ray of light to envelope me as I entered this thrift shop. No such luck. I didn't last 5 minutes in this shop. I really don't see what all the fuss is about, and frankly I'm disappointed that I drove allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way out there to go to what is essentially a big covered yard sale full of stuff I don't want. It reminded me of a seedy Goodwill. You know the ones where you're halfway scared to touch anything? Yeah, well that's how I felt. Don't get me wrong. It is so well organized, it's scary. And you could tell it used to be a grocery store -- down to the several lanes of checkout lines and the huge parking lot out front. Still, this could not make up for the rather unfortunate selection of items I saw inside. What cooked my goose the most is that I had specifically gone there to look at their furniture items. I needed a dresser. (SN: Do you hear that, furniture stores of the DMV area? A dresser. ONE little ole' measly dresser. Not a whole bedroom set, just a dresser. In a light pine color. Who knew it was that hard to find? But I digress...) So I drove all the way out to Value Village, braving the pellets of rains that were coming down like darts from the heavens the whole way. Well, I get there to find that the selection is not only paltry, but get this --- more than half of it was sitting outside in the rain during the rainstorm. It's like someone on duty got up this morning, didn't check the forecast, and hauled most of their inventory outside. Then, it started to trickle. Then it began to pour, really pour. Then buckets of torrential rains fell from the sky at monsoon speeds. (Ok, maybe not monsoon speeds, but still...) And the employee just shrugged. And then went on break. Surely, that must have happened. How else can you explain what I saw when I arrived? Real wood furniture, particle board furniture, dressers, desks, tables, you name it were all sitting outside soaking wet. No one made an attempt to cover it, pull it back in, or anything! Everything just got a bath...and a shower...and a skinny dip... Thus, I caution any of you who happen to make it by this place on a nice, sunny day. Don't be fooled. I love this thrift store. The hipsters have taken over so you have to pick a good day to go there and rummage. It takes patience and dedication, but most importantly a good eye for fashion in what may otherwise be garbage. I have found some great items that I will cherish more than the person that donated the items. Par exemple: a Louis Vuitton weekender, a television, designer shoes, interesting shoes from all over the world, one of a kind jewelery, and items for costumes. GIGANTIC, so many items, so well organized. Whatever you need (unless it's complete dining room sets, or large furniture, or non-water soiled furniture--since they leave their desks/chairs outside, even in the rain...), you will find here! I always come to look for non-clothing items, unless it's for my husband, men's clothes are much easier to sort through. During halloween season, they have the entrance stocked with old and new costumes, the new ones are very very nicely priced. The only con about this place is that it smells super perfume-y.. my nose is constantly running and i'm sneezing out the butthole every time. This location has some very good quality finds for reasonable prices. I've gotten some nice clothes from there, and the days that they have deals are great. They also have fitting rooms now. The reason I didn't give this location a higher rating is because their customer service yesterday was lacking, which left a bad taste in my mouth, given how many things I've donated and the amount of money I've spent here. I tried to exchange a purse that I discovered had an issue with the zipper. I still had the receipt, tags and was within the 7-day time frame. Only to be met with "We're not doing exchanges today" by the cashier. When I ask why, she says it's because it's a sale day, and the store is too busy. The store was indeed busy, but there was no one behind me in line at that time. She called over a manager to confirm that they wouldn't do the exchange. In the time it took to do that, they could have done the exchange and I would have been on my merry way. It's not like it was a lot of money, but come on. Don't put on the receipts that you accept exchanges, when you arbitrarily decide that on some days you do not. And of course, it was the 7th day, so now I'm out of luck and stuck with a defective purse. You win some, you lose some. But I'll be taking my business to the Unique in Wheaton from now on. read more
