I grew up receiving unconditional love and support from Amy and Olga. I lost my hair at seven to Alopecia Areata, then graduated to Totalis and now Universalis. I'm not going to lie. You're going to drop loot here, so if that's your main consideration, go to Party City and get yourself a $5 party wig. I came here with my mother to get some wigs because she is going through chemotherapy and didn't want to walk around looking like a new recruit. The staff was really really helpful in finding products that would look natural on my mother, as well as accessories (she bought a couple of soft head covers to sleep in- she really likes the beanies she got there, they are very very comfortable and made in the USA- I had to stop myself from buying one). My mom chose the synthetic wigs- and they look awesome. They were about $200-$300 a piece, but again, no maintenance and they look great. The lady was really patient with us because, as her daughter, I don't want my mom walking around looking funny- I was a harsh critic, so they spent a lot of time with us, no sense of rushing at all. Guess what? If you want great service and great products you have to pay for them. There is mostly/only street parking, which may be an issue with people who are undergoing chemo, but I've been there twice now and I didn't find an issue parking close to the door. Bring your quarters if you don't already have one of those online pay for the meter things. I hope this doesn't come out wrong, but this is a store for white people hair. People of other ethnicities might want to consider another store. read more

I had an excellent experience with Tina. I expected the wig to be expensive, and it was. But it is worth it. It looks natural and actually better than my hair before my chemo, and I am so happy with it that I'm planning to use it even after my hair grows back for occasions like virtual work presentations where I really need my hair to look good. I went with two friends "C" and "J" and J's husband to Amy's of Denmark to select a wig for "J" who has had a series of medical setbacks and has lost most of her hair. Maybe it was just time "J" had some good karma come into her life, but we had a positive experience at Amy's. When we pulled up there was a parking space right out front but the meter didn't work. Husband was left behind to move the car. But who should happen along but the "meter reader" who told him not to worry about it since the meter was broken. As we enter the store I see an employee I know from high school, who I have not seen in many, many years, but I recognize her from Face Book. We chat for a few minutes and she says one of their consultants will be with us shortly. Well Amy, who has retired to Florida, just happens to be in the shop. She helps us select a wig and a hat with hair fringe that are both adorable and look fantastic on "J". She then takes the inexpensive wig that was being used to tide "J" over until she could get to a nicer shop and restyles it so that it looks much more natural at no charge. (Seeing the $150 wig versus the cheaper wig you can see the difference in quality and why the one is more expensive). In the meantime, another customer comes in and, though I didn't hear the whole conversation, I heard her tell Amy that "you changed my life." I'm sad that "J" even had to do this but I'm so glad she ended up with such a successful purchase at the hands of such an experienced shop. read more

The new 'do got thumbs up from friends and family, and a nice compliment from a casual (and stylish) young acquaintance. They are wonderful working with hair loss from chemotherapy. Compassion, great selection, great service and knowledge. So happy with my wig. I chose to get one good human hair wig that is more comfortable than any others I've tried. It was more expensive than other wigs I tried in another shop, but it is comfortable and looks like my own hair. Better in fact than my hair looked before chemo started. Another shop told me I would not want to wear my wig because they are all uncomfortable, so naturally I kept looking. So glad my oncology nurse recommended Amy of Denmark. read more

I bought a natural hair wig for $1800 due to hair loss from chemo, but unfortunatelly developed a contact dermatitis to the lining of the wig (medically documented by my oncologist). When I called the store to arrange for return, they told me that "Federal Law forbids return of hair goods." I checked with FDA policy, called and emailed FDA and received a response that they are not aware of such regulation. I also found a state policy that requires desinfection of natural hair wigs prior to resale, but nothing about them not being returnable. I called Ammy's back and offered to read the FDA statement to them - they refused to hear. I asked if they can sher the Federal regulation policy they are referring to - they refused. They proceeded to state it's their store policy, yet it is not noted on their receipt, and I was not informed. I offered to bring my oncologist's note demonstrating the presence of contact dermatitis - they refused to see it, and said that they will not accept a return and hang up. The person I spoke with was the owner. When I actually got fitted for a wig, the service was very pleasant, but such lack of transperancey on their return policy, and lack of integrity stating in black and white on their receipt that "Federal Law prohibits returns" when it does not, is unacceptable and should be known by the public. I filed a dispute with my credit card, and a complain with MD Consumer protection. My advice - do not go to Amy's. I found many places that sell fantastic natural hair wigs for $400-900 dollars and accepted 60 day returns, no question asked (try Curediva.com or TLC.com). read more

AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL! I accompanied my mom to Amy's in the hopes of buying her a new wig. She purchased a wig from Amy's several years ago and had a good experience then, but this time it was completely different. Sales staff were rude, inconsiderate, and incredibly impatient. They offered no suggestions and acted like they were doing us a huge favor, often blatantly checking the time and walking away. They completely lacked empathy in dealing with my mom and even ripped the wigs right from her head, leaving her vulnerable and feeling very insecure. We ended up leaving without buying anything, and my mom left in tears. Sales staff definitely didn't seem to care at all. My mom has suffered enough, she doesn't need a traumatic experience like this to add to it. Stay away from this establishment. read more

After realizing we were going to need a wig for a very good friend going through Chemo for breast cancer, we shopped serveral of the local metro Wash DC wig shops. Big learning curve. Amy's of Denmark is a small wig shop in Wheaton Md with big help. Amy's offer a lot of different kinds of wigs. Real hair, fake hair, real and fake hair, short, long, monofilament etc..all colors and style. Amy's of Denmark is offering a service to women struggling with the side affects of Chemo. The staff is polite, extremily patient while you sit and try on different styles and colors. they leave you alone and let you ponder over the type and kind of wig you will need, no rushing. They will cut your falling out hair, style the wig, fit the wig you buy from them for free! That is a huge help! They do not bug you while you shop. I loved everything about Amy's of Denmark. I have been going to Amy's for many years and they are the best! The hair/wig stylists are so nice and accommodating, and they are truly experts in both wigs and hair. I wear human hair wigs and get compliments all the time on my hair, or people ask me who my stylist is. They are also perfectionists - Tina and Sandy will make adjustments multiple times to get a wig to fit and look exactly right. As far as their prices, I used to buy my wigs in NYC before I discovered Amy's and they were much more expensive in New York but the quality was not up to Amy's standards. read more

I recently went to Amy's to get a wig because of my hair loss from chemo. The sales rep did OK in selecting wigs for me to try on. However, when we were done, she yanked my wig cap (which I brought with me) from my head, leaving my bald head for everyone to see. I was mortified by her intrusive gesture. She gave a very matter-of-fact apology. None of the managers apologized either. read more

Terrific experience here today. I was helped by Tina who really knows her stuff. She was both extremely kind and professional at the same time. I am 47 and needed a wig for chemo. Amy's was recommended by the nurses at my oncologist's and by my hairdresser who has had a number of clients come here. It was really a super experience. The neighborhood is a little inauspicious and the salon gently faded, but the staff are second to none. Everyone was really friendly. I thought not being able to make an appointment would be a drag. Not an issue. Highly recommend Amy's if you need a wig for chemotherapy. read more
