A pointless exercise. I've previously been to their office on two occasions and was never scheduled to see the dermatologist; but only an assistant was available. Now, they won't even answer their phones to schedule an appointment. They clearly don't want their patients to interrupt whatever else they're doing. So let's play phone tag? I don't think so... Two weeks trying to get a prescription filled. No call backs and no follow-through. Very poor communication, extremely frustrating.

DO NOT GO HERE! The front staff have no personality and are rude. You never see the same N.P. Dr. Cardenas is never there from what I have observed. No follow up when they tell you they will follow up. N.P. Virginia Gifford literally googled what a spot could be on my son's leg (I could do that, you're the professional). Absolutely awful and painful experience with this office. I had two small procedures on my upper back area. Both areas were left open and bandaged over with zero stitches. The next day I was in pain and had a fever. The areas around the bandages were red and hot to the touch. I went back to Dr's Cardenas office where the holes were treated and again bandaged over. I asked for an antibiotic- but they said it wasn't necessary. By the end of the next day- Another fever and those areas of my back were throbbing and swollen. I finally decided enough was enough with this office. I went to Urgent Care were they had to express an incredibly large amount of greenish puss/infection from my incisions. My incisions were then thoroughly cleansed and stitched closed by the Urgent Care staff. In addition- the Urgent Care Dr. prescribed an antibiotic. Is it REALLY that difficult for this Dr and staff to actually listen to what a patient is explaining to them about what they are experiencing?!? I'm filing a complaint with my insurance company regarding this lack of treatment and service. If I could leave 1/2 a star I would. read more

She is great with patients. Very good bedside manners. Very considerate to patients condition and financial problems. She calls me personally to update my condition.. Do not go here. There is no follow-up and the record-keeping is atrocious. Some of their staff relations is atrocious as well. Oh by the way this is CASH ONLY business except for the initial consultation which is only $100 but insurance takes part of that. They examined you take pictures then they tell you to come back after a month-and-a-half. Then the doctor herself determines what she's going to do like a frazzle and with this she uses about 7 hypodermic needle filled with lidocaine and she just goes to town and starts injecting right away does not give time for the lidocaine to work before she uses that frazzle stick this is totally irresponsible. I had mean at least dentist give it five minutes for it to work but she gives it like 30 seconds and she wants to spend as little time as possible with you and you better go over the directions in detail before you leave because there's a lot of unanswered questions that I had after I left and I wish I would have read all the things that she had to have me do I will never go back there again and even one employee did not have their covid shot it is she told me she wasn't going to get it so what kind of establishment is this? A cash-only establishment why I know a lot of those that are not on the up-and-up I'm not saying this is one of them I'm just saying it's a cash-only business no refunds no nothing and then the PA comes out later after nothing has happened and says well maybe we need to do it twice oh bulshit. It should have worked the first time and if it didn't they should redo it again at no charge why charge another thousand dollars again that total BS. Hey a doctor that has gone to Walter Reed hospital should know better than this she's all about making money as fast as she can which means have several people in and out as much as possible without explaining anything in detail and then when it doesn't work the PA says well sorry about that maybe we should do it again and charge you another $1,000 in cash! I don't f****** think so! Do not go here there are other places that are better. I've never seen anybody inject lidocaine so fast that there's lumps around the area that needs this frazil stick repair and the lidocaine hasn't even taken effect yet. And then she just leaves here's the paperwork and she just leaves no way to ask questions from the front desk because they don't know s***! A piss poor example of why it didn't work not a scientific explanation but a fly-by-night explanation given by the PA not the doctor you never see her ever again why is that the follow-up should be with the doctor not the PA the doctor should be making the decisions after all she is the doctor she's not a PA. Beware of this place. They are good clinicians but their billing staff are no good. They have sent me to collections both times I've went. I've never received a bill from them in the mail. By bills were $35 and $63. So they want that money. I'm never going back. read more

Yup... just a repeat of what the other customers below already stated. I waited one hour and 45 minutes. No recognition on the part of the M.A. who brought me into the room, no apology, nada. Then another 15 minutes in a paper gown in a freezing room. When I left, I asked the office staff if the wait was typical. I ended up having to take an entire day off of work for a 5 minute visit with the P.A. Bottom line, if this wait is typical, then I needed to rethink when I would make an appointment. I was astonished at the very rude and snotty reply. "This is a specialty medical office. The wait is often that long, and sometimes even longer." Not an apology. I guess because you're a front office M.A. in a "specialty medical office" in Bakersfield, that entitles you to be rude and snooty. All of us normal old patients just hoping that their little skin cancers and stuff don't deserve respect for our time or our person. I was told the Doctor was out for several weeks with a medical problem of her own. Perhaps this is the way that the office staff runs things when she's not around. Seems to me that the Doc needs to chop some of the personnel. Another concern was that the M.A. who checked me in, as well as the P.A. who saw me, both touched my skin without washing their hands upon entering, or exiting. Shudder. Flip side, when I was seen, it was by a very professional, caring, knowledgeable P.A. I appreciated the treatment which was advised. Upon leaving, I headed to the phlebotomist next door for some blood work, and she stated that she hears complaints about that business all the time. I may or may not keep the appointment that I make for follow up. I intend to notify my referring physician about the experience and see if there is an alternative. Hopefully the Doc will see the multiple complaints here on Yelp and relieve some of the key offenders from their jobs. Mickie-D's is always hiring. read more

I always wait so long at this doctors office that it takes away from the experience. (Not that getting your moles burned off is a great experience to start) Last time, I waited an hour in the waiting room then another forty five minutes naked, in a paper gown, waiting to be poked and prodded. RUDE RUDE RUDE! I have been going to this office for YEARS. I had previously seen the same Practitioner, but apparently she moved. I never had a problem previously, I could make an appointment in a reasonable time and was called back fairly quickly. UNTIL now! It took almost a month to get in. Once my date finally came, I waited AN HOUR to be called back. Now mind you, if I was an hour late, do you think they would have still seen me???? NO! Anyway, a practitioner came in, and said I'm sorry about the wait but we are fully booked. She took a quick look at my face and said, well with your insurance we need to get approval to freeze. OKAY sooooo I wait a month, then an hour, for you to charge my insurance plus my $25 deductible, just so you can spend 1 minute to schedule me an appointment??? If you knew this about my insurance why couldn't we have maybe teleconferenced and got approval before wasting my time, or squeezed me in for a quick peek. So, I was obviously annoyed. I said, "So, I wait for a month, and then an hour, and now you're telling me 3 more weeks for an appointment?" I believe her name was Virginia, but I'm not sure, said "That's the way Dr Cardenas runs her business, if would like you can complain to her." I said, "I will." (I didn't until now.) As I was walking out, she asked if I would like samples yada yada, I kept saying no...no...no. Just wanted to get out, I could feel my inner Karen coming out. So, I leave, call another dermatologist and make an appointment. I pretty much let it go. I figured I'd go in for my last appointment and then switch doctors. THEN I get a letter from Dr. high and mighty Cardenas, stating that she will no longer be seeing me. MMMMK so tell me Dr, did you ask my side of the story? Do you even care that your patients are being treated poorly? Do you want to know that your practitioner is rude and throwing you under the bus? Guess not. I would definitely NOT recommend this practice to anyone. read more

The office is very nice and the receptionist is very helpful. My only compliant is the wait is pretty long like over an hour past my appointment. The doctor was very attentive and answered all my questions. I would recommend her, but they need to work on time management. read more

Dr. Cardenas was great! I went in to remove spider veins, two under my eyes and one on my nose, she used the V beam laser. She warned me of the recovery and how it would look, very deep purple bruising and some swelling, but she thought I would probably only need one treatment to get them completely gone. I agreed and decided to do it right then and there. The cost was minimal under $100. It didn't hurt, I flinched only because of the noise. She didn't try to sell me on any other services and gave me great instructions on how to care for the treated areas and a prescription for hyperpigmentation. After 10 days the areas looked so much better and by 16 days the areas are flawless now. I highly recommend Dr Cardenas! read more

The reason I give this place 2** is because the place is clean. This morning I had my appointment for my baby and after waiting 45 minutes, I asked to speak to a manager. The person we spoke with was very unhappy and instead of trying to make things better, she quickly wanted to take his "medical history" and then she left as fast as she could. The receptionists look very unfriendly and unhappy, one of the was actually rude towards me. I wish there would be other options for dermatologists on my side of town. If the stars were for Virginia Gifford I would rate her at 5 stars. I was on acutane which most of you know is a very big deal. I felt safe with her because She was very personal, accurate, and took her time with me. She was friendly, listened very well and worked around every issue that arose. She also was very specific with doses and never upped my dose due to my body responding to the small amount pretty well. Most staff was also very polite and friendly. However the business itself kind of irritated me. One scheduled appt I was not notified that Virginia couldn't make it into our appt, (they should have called me!)which was okay with me at first until the other practitioner came in, not knowing anything about me and not even knowing I was In the process of getting ready for acutane!! I had to spend 10 min just explaining while I was there and what was going on(previous to 2-3 appts I spent with Virginia already). I was new to this also and so didn't think to question when the new practitioner didn't give me a slip for labs or even tell me I needed to have labs done before my next appt, following later I show up not having labs done and being scolded and told that "the system said I was given lab papers"(well sorry to say they thought I was lying or stupid) but she didn't give me anything at all. I left without anything. I then finished the rest of my appts happily with Virginia( still mad about the experience previously and accusations of me lying). Another incident with billing; I pay all my bills and on time to the matter of fact. A few months after finishing treatment I receive by mail a late notice of a small bill of $60 and that I would be sent to collections. First off never receiving any bills previously at all and thinking I'm paid off. They clearly had my address to send a collections notice but never sent ANY bills?? This pissed me off in the fact that the billing department clearly had my address but all the sudden the first piece of mail I get from them is late notices. PULL IT TOGETHER PEOPLE. No organization or communication whatso ever. First with the mix up with the practitioner who didn't even KNOW why I was there and not giving me paperwork or directions for the next appt, then this? This rating is for her P.A who is the WORST person I have ever dealt with in the medical field in my life. I have already made one review; however, I could make dozens and each would be 5 stars. Each experience has more excellent positives. Just to name a few: very clean throughout, very knowledgeable M.A.s, who are always friendly to me, organized, from the front office, Intake and Checkout, Dr Cardenas is beyond educated as well as experienced, as she notices every "feature" of your skin, photographs her findings at a visit so she can compare improvement or not at your next visit, very one of my questions are answered and then explained. The only time I have had a negative experience is the two times I have seen the PAs. Very rude. Otherwise, Dr. Cardenas is a gem! read more

Very disappointed with the care I received. My first visit I was seen by the Physicians Assistant. I was referred to the dermatologist for clogged pores which cause bumps on my face. The dermatologist wanted to burn the clogged pores off as a solution to my problem. Naively I agreed. Big mistake. Now I have scars where the clogged pores are. Run don't walk to a different dermatologist. As others mentioned the wait is ridiculous. read more

The first phone call the receptionist was very rude to me and hung up the phone, determined to get this removed my sister called again and was able to schedule an appointment. On the phone we told them it was very close to my eye and she said that is fine and my insurance will cover everything. We go in the next day only to find out they can't do anything. They told me it's just too close (LIKE I TOLD THE WOMAN ON THE PHONE) and they told me to go see an ophthalmologist. When we were leaving they charged me a copay....when they didn't do anything. Very nice office and convenient location. There are a few dermatologists in this building as well. There are several cosmetic procedures offered in addition to typical dermatological treatments. My one complaint is the wait time. My appointment was at 1015, I arrived 10 minutes early. I did not see the doctor until 1145, at which point I felt very rushed. I had my next appointment scheduled and was in my car by noon. I don't mind waiting for a good doctor, but please give me the time I need without being rushed. read more

I work in the medical field so perhaps I'm judging by medical standards I find valuable. I am very disappointed in this facility for many reasons. I think if you bill an insurance and you are a doctor you should have your patient's best interests in mind. DO NOT run your medical business like a car salesman, trying to push a sale. I went in for a simple procedure which was fully covered by the insurance. The PA tried to push me into paying for the laser option because there would be less bleeding. Truth be told, if she did her job correctly there should be little bleeding. Over and over she pushed the laser option for only $99. That is very unprofessional and highly unethical in my opinion. I want a doctor who has my best interests at heart, not their profit. This office has lost all credibility in my book. read more

Additionally she possesses a wealth of knowledge in her field. I did wait about 30 minutes before seeing her, but that seems to be the norm (unfortunately) in Bakersfield. I have been to this office a few times. Staff is nice, but it's nearly impossible to get through to the office by phone, and emails via the Contact Us link on the website go unanswered. Not to mention having to wait a month out for an appointment if you do get through. My appointments have always been either first thing upon opening in the morning, or first appointment after lunch (1pm). Even then, waiting room time was 15-20 minutes. I used to be a happy customer but the last few visits for my handicapped son was terrible. When the receptionist asked if he has a secondary medical coverage she was very rude and told me the office does not accept medi-cal patients. She even went too far and told me he should never put that info down on any medical forms because their doctors would never treat him because of it. I hope she is no longer employed there. I can never see Ana anymore because she has cut back on her hours. The last assistant was okay but she told me to just purchase over the counter treatments for my sons skin condition. I came down with a rash on my hands and knew that all I needed was a strong corticosteroid cream to get rid of it. I didn't want to go to my usual urgent care place because I wanted the right meds and recommendation from someone who specializes in derm. However, I called my regular dermatologist for an appt and couldn't get in for months. By that time I would just have two huge inflamed nubs. I was able to call Dr. Cardenas' office and get a fast appointment with a PA. She was incredibly thorough, nice and gave me proper recommendations and just what I needed. The rash cleared in no time. True to some of the previous comments the wait was pretty long and I was seen 45 minutes past my apt time but I came into contact with 5 different people and every one of them were very nice. Dr. Cardenas knew what was wrong almost immediately which was a relief and she had such an outgoing friendly demeanor that I was instantly comfortable. Dr. Cardenas went out of her way to even provide me with a coupon to save me money on one of my prescriptions. What put it as an awesome place in my book was the fact that they were offering discounts on procedures if you made donations or adopted an animal!! I loved this! read more

I have had good experiences in the past about 4 or 5 years ago. Now it just seems that they are in a rush and don't really care to help you but just want to give you medication and leave. I have had bad experiences with billing, sometimes not getting a bill at or being sent to collections after just getting one bill and not getting billed for almost a year later. I totally recommend this office. Almost all of the staff are wonderful and helpful. Jenn is the best!! She is knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and just lovely!! I've never had to wait too long and mostly importantly no one there has ever tried to "up sell" me on any product or service. My only wish is that they would work with insurance carriers because I happen to have coverage for some things and prescriptions but they won't do that. I chose to go to an actual doctor's office instead of just a medi spa because I thought they'd help with things like a pre-authorization form for prescriptions but I liked the office so much that I decided to stay for services. I've been seeing Dr. Cardenas for a few years now. I've finally decided to cancel my appointment and seek help with another dermatologist. Cardenas herself is friendly, but she does try to push certain options, procedures, medications. Also, her office staff is not very friendly. And, during my last appt (probably the straw that broke the camel's back), after having waited for the typical hour just to get back into a room (which is ALWAYS freezing), one of the nurses came back, implied that they were running behind and therefore needed to be quick about getting my history and updates to my chart. When I was trying to update my info, she pushed me to be quicker and talk faster so she could get out of there (not stated but definitely with body language). And, of course, I continued to wait longer in the room for the doctor. Finally seeing her, I decided to inform her that her office made a HUGE mistake and sent another patient's info to my voicemail. They looked into it and realized that they had SWITCHED some of mine and another patient's info in our charts, in their system. Yeahhhhh, better fix that info fast. I'm in medical and that's a big NO NO, especially if you leave that other patient's TEST RESULTS on my voicemail. Anyway, I know everyone makes mistakes, but if their office staff and staff in general was more friendly and humble, I'd probably be nicer about it myself. Again, some of their nurses are friendly and Cardenas is friendly and is a relatively good doctor (hence the 2 stars versus 1) but this practice as a whole just isn't for me. Buyer beware, If I could give a negative review I would. I purchased electrolysis 6 sessions for my lip area. Well needless to say after six treatments my lip are still had hair at the corners. I was given tanning glasses that never really covered my eye's from the lasers. Then she decided to add gauze to help with the eyes. I spoke to Alise their certified Electrolysis concerning how my treatments were fast and left a lot of hair in odd places. I expressed my concerned her treatment was fast and never through. and was talked into buying 2 more sessions at full price. After waiting a long time 35 minutes to be seen I was told the machine was broken. So i reschedule my last 2 sessions. Then I came in my next appointment only to greeted by Alise with a rude Why are you here? Really after the office confirmed my appointment the day before. Hurt i reschedule again my next 2 visit to accommodate their machine that was broken and never fixed. This last visit I had I was informed in very loud voices by the receptionist that this was my last visit. So I paid for 8 sessions for electrolysis of the upper lip, I got 7 visits and i still have hair on the corner of my lips. Do i dare go back in? I think not. I don't trust Alyse or the other staff at this office. They are perhaps the rudest unprofessional medical staff I have ever met. Trust me go some where else and be happy with your service. I have also been seen by Dr Cardenas who came highly recommended by a friend. She is nice however her staff chase away her patience and I wonder how she can allow such treatment of her clients. read more
