Ana did an absolutely beautiful job with my dress. I came in with a very specific vision, that required a good deal of alteration. Ana made alternate suggestions and provided explanations for why she thought it would work better for my body and the dress. Ana hemmed it to remove the train, shortened the straps, added internal shapewear, and even more. Had a time-wasting experience with Ana Sousa today/ tonight. I called her this morning around 11am. She answered as if she'd just woken up and didn't identify herself as a business until I asked if she was Ana. I should have known to bail then. I asked if I could come in to have a dress zipper worked on. She said "I guess you can come by at 6pm tonight, I'll be there then." So, heavy with doubts, I went to her office in Hadley at 6pm to find it locked and dark. I waited 20 minutes to no avail. This person doesn't take herself seriously enough for you to risk her working on your things. Steer clear. read more

I had a really good experience with Ana Sousa. I had a bridesmaid dress that way way too big and needed lots of adjustments and a bustle. Ana and her assistant made their best effort to accommodate me, which was no easy task because I live in NY (my family lives in Northampton) and could only get to town on weekends. I also had to cancel an appointment last minute because of a funeral and they made an effort to see me the following weekend. They did a wonderful job on the dress. The only thing is that unfortunately the button Ana made for the bustle broke, but I was able to sew on a different button and it worked out. I was so impressed with how my dress came out. I had purchased an Alfred Angelo dress, and then they went bankrupt, so I had to find another one. After finding the most perfect dress and buying it off the rack, I was nervous to find a place that I would trust to take in and hem the dress due to fear of something happening to it. When my mom and I arrived to Ana Sousa Tailoring, we met Vera, a wonderfully talented, sweet woman, who made the whole process great. We met with her four or five times over the course of the months before the wedding, and each time was better than the previous. She also tailored my mom's mother of the bride dress perfectly. I would recommend her to any bride needing alterations! She was timely, friendly, and accommodating to my late-afternoon appointments! I'm delighted to share my many experiences with Ana as well as Vera (who works in Ana's shop). They've tailored many of my suits, blouses, pants, dresses, and more. Last week, for example, they shortened a pair of lined wool pants and tailored a lined suit. As always, the garments were impeccably tailored. Last summer, I wanted to wear a beautiful strapless cocktail dress to a wedding and wasn't sure about the fit and comfort. New to the area since this summer, I brought in a number of garments, including a vintage dress, for alterations to Ana and her associate. They did a beautiful job, measuring carefully, giving helpful recommendations as to enhance the garments' appeal, and delivering work promptly in the lull between prom and wedding dresses, which keeps them very busy for much of the year. They were ready to tackle each and every alteration, both simple (hemming pants) or complex (resetting jacket sleeves). It is rare to find such attention to detail and quality results these days. While their prices may be a bit more than what you might expect, I like to support a local business with so many years of experience, and I am willing to pay for that quality of service. read more

I found out about Ana and Hands on Fabric from the wonderful woman from whom I bought my wedding dress. I had no idea Ana was here and am so glad to have found such a local gem! There was some concern that it would be difficult to get an initial appointment during the busy summer season, but Ana returned my message almost immediately and was able to schedule me for my first fitting within a couple of weeks. While Ana herself did not do my bridal gown fitting or actual alterations, I was in excellent hands with Vera who specializes in wedding gowns. Both women were incredibly welcoming, friendly, competent and efficient. The studio itself is a lovely, airy space with a cozy charm but plenty of space for the magic to happen. My first round of alterations were completed within a couple of months, and when I had to have my gown taken in yet again, this was handled again with grace and efficiency. The dress was absolutely beautiful and fit perfectly when it was finished, and the cost of the alterations was very reasonably for the work and time required. Even more notably, I had ordered a "custom-sized" dress for after our wedding ceremony from a company in India that makes lovely clothing, but it did not fit as well as I had hoped. I received this dress only about a week before I was due to leave for my out-of-town wedding. The morning I tried it on, I called Ana and asked if there was any chance she could take a look and try to make some adjustments. She called me right back and got me in later that afternoon. We took some measurements, discussed a timeframe and price, and a few days later I had another beautiful product in hand! All in all, the women who own and operate this business are wonderful to interact with and do excellent work. I can't recommend them more highly, and will definitely be using them for other tailoring needs in the future. read more

I went to Ana to tailor two non-tradtional, short wedding dresses. Really enjoyed her demeanor and felt very confident in her taste and I appreciated her overall styling advice. She and I emailed to schedule appointments and she met the timeline on both dresses. The work was professional and well executed. It was expensive but I figure that's all a part of the whole wedding industrial complex and I had budgeted for it. My two $400 dresses each had about $150-185 in tailoring. But they fit well and looked good so that's worth it to me. I'm excited to wear my dress next week for my Labor Day wedding reception! I would recommend her and her associate, Vera and will be going back to her for my other tailoring needs. read more

Ana Sousa had excellent reviews so I brought two garments for simple hemming jobs, as I was researching tailors to alter my wedding dress. I also brought some pictures of my dress, to be sure it could be altered the way I wanted. She charged double what my friend paid at a high-end tailor on Newbury Street, Boston for similar hemming jobs, and tacked on a bridal consultation fee (in fairness, she did talk to me a lot, however much of it was well-meaning but unsolicited advice about what shoes and accessories I should buy). For the garments, she took double the amount of time she said it would take, without calling to tell me. When I finally called, she said she hadn't started (she said it was next in line), and laughed when I said she had told me it would be finished the week before. She was generally pleasant and did a good job on the garments I brought, but given her high prices and lack of professionalism, I didn't feel comfortable bringing her my wedding dress. read more

This is a very positive review for Ana Sousa. Anna is a great resource in the Pioneer Valley. Ana provided excellent alterations and very helpful consultation as I was trying to find the right dress for my daughter's wedding. I probably brought in 8 different dresses and in each case, Ana offered her very honest and helpful advice on what worked, what could be altered and what should be abandoned. She took everything into account including comfort, fabric, color, etc. When I tried on the last dress and Ana said, "this is it" I knew I had the right one and could trust her. She did a major hemming job to make it just right. All her work was a notch above professional. In all she altered five dresses, a blouse and two pairs of jeans. Several were items I owned that didn't fit quite right or were dated. Ana made them useful again. Now that I know about Ana, I feel like I have options and a place to go for quality alterations and great advice. Thanks Ana! read more
