I have used shu- fix in the past on custom boots made for me, turned out great!! This past time I went was because my Birkenstock sandal sole shrunk in the car from heat :( He fixed my shoe with the same Birkenstock sole, brand new, they have never been more comfortable. Over the years I've brought many shoes and sandals to be repaired and he's always done a great job for a more than reasonable price. Brought in three pairs of unwearable sandals in last year and got three good pair back for less than 1/2 the cost of one pair. Brought a now $200 pair of SAS shoes to be resoled this year and less than a week later had an almost new pair for $25- he even shined them for me! Repair and reuse before tossing!! read more

Best decision I ever made for my favorite pair of boots. Had a pair of Thursdays I wear almost every day. Brought them in as one of the soles was separated at the toe. Owner to a look at both - and a couple of weeks later I returned to find both looking better than when I bought them. Restitched the sole and added new heel blocks to both. I had a great first experience with Shu fix. My winter boots had one of the zipper is broken and I really love them and didn't want to get a new pair over something so silly. I'm so glad that Shu fix is local so that I can get more life out of my awesome boots! They were ready quickly and he gave me a call once they were ready for pick up. I have called him several times and he always very abruptly says I'll call you when they're ready well today I'm going down and I'm just getting the boots back unrepaired and will take them elsewhere.very dissatisfied with his service and his rude manners. read more

I don't like writing bad reviews. I honestly wanted to be a repeat customer yet this last experience left me very disappointed. This was my second time using his service, the previous time was okay. My aim was to have him add triumph toe plates to a set of slightly worn dress shoes. This would have been the first of three pairs. I made it very clear what I was looking for. Had he told me it was not a service he offered I might have still been a customer. Instead when the time to pickup my shoes came, I found he had added a pair of heal saver plates to the toes. the type of plate I wanted is flush mounted these are ugly hunks of metal that scrape the ground and change how you walk. Worse they are not even symmetrical. I pointed out that this isn't what I had wanted, he said that I could only get those from the manufacturer on new shoes. Something I know to be wrong As I have seen a number of cobbler shops advertise that service on new and used shoes. read more

A brief story, my 10 year old son had his prized baseball glove eaten by our Labrador the night before a big all-star game. He was destroyed. I called Shu-Fix in hope of a miracle that someone could repair his glove enough to allow him to use it. Shu-Fix worked a miracle crafting a new glove pocket out of leather in time for that night's game. That alone would have been enough to earn a 5 star review. But, that is only half the story. Because he did such an amazing job getting the glove to be usable my wife and I spent the money to buy a replacement glove to use for parts to get the clove closer to its original form. Shu-Fix basically brought this glove back to life using replacement parts and carefully crafted and stitched leather patches. All this incredible wor, and he refused to accept any payment because he wanted to help a child. I cannot speak highly enough about this man, his work, and the quality of his character. Truly an amazing gesture by a wonderful man. read more

DO NOT PAY ANY ATTENTION TO THAT ONE STAR REVIEW!!!! I think he/she is a little "cray-cray" as this cobbler did a beautiful adjustment on a brand new pair of 200.00 sandals. I have a super narrow foot and he actually took in the leather to make it tighter. He is a sweet man and his English is fine. Maybe this person has an problem with people with accents?? I have been in customer service and some people have unrealistic expectations and there's just no pleasing them. Period. read more

Have only been bringing them shoes and sandals and boots to repair for about 18 years, but still find the care, promptness, and value to be hard to surpass, especially within 30 miles of Northampton. Paul's in Amherst is okay but sometimes sloppier and always pricier. I've never had a regret yet with Shu-Fix even after they moved from their old King St. location. But maybe the next 18 years will be different? I hope not. Shu-Fix has revived my favorite sandals twice now! The first day after I bought them, one of my puppy charges ate the strap across my right instep (not while I was wearing them ). He made me a new strap. Since then, I wore the bottoms out (they were a cheap knockoff of Berkinstocks). I brought them to him a couple weeks ago--a little teary-eyed--and asked if we could save them. He built them back on authentic Birkenstock soles! We've used this shop three times and been happy with all of the shoe work that has been done. One note -- the shop seems to always be a little backed up with work so plan ahead. From my experience it seems to take 2-3 weeks before your shoes are ready for pickup. read more

The couple who runs this place is SO nice! The prices are reasonable and the work is absolutely terrific. This is very much an old-school kind of place. They only take cash, you have to hang on to your ticket, and it can take a week or two to get the work done. But it's totally worth it. I've been going to this place for years. When I lived in Boston, I would bring my shoes in when I came back to visit family because I haven't found anyone else as skilled or reasonably priced. Plus the cobbler is such a sweet guy and will be honest if he doesn't think the shoes are worth repairing. Make sure to save your ticket with the shoe number! Having a pair of Danskos reheeled costs $15, which is quite reasonable. In winter, it took a little over a week, which is about the standard time everywhere. They polished up a scuffed and worn pair of clogs they reheeled amazingly well; they looked better than they had in years. read more

The first time I came here I could tell that the cobbler is a kind gentle man. He always has a smile on his face and is very friendly and helpful. I had a three-year-old pair of leather boots that had many signs of wear and tear and needed new heel tips. He made my boots look great by polishing up the leather and only charged $20. Strange little store, odd people running it. They did manage to save my favorite (but mangled) pair of cowboy boots lickety split, however, so consider me a fan. And so cheap! I have lived in Northampton my whole life, never even new this place existed. For Christmas I bought my daughter a pair of Bandolini boots. She instantly fell in love with them. After wearing them once the zipper split, I tried to exchange them but they were sold out. I brought them to Shu-fix, he fixed them in two minutes, when I asked him what I owed him he said "happy new year"!!!! My daughter is so happy and I was blown away.
