I've always enjoyed this place, it may not be the largest, but there is always something fun to find. The holiday trinkets are terribly entertaining, but the garden area is the best, and yes, there are other things like paint and fixtures if you need that. They have most of the common items and the smaller store makes it easy to walk around and find things. Helpful and friendly staff and, most of the time, checking out is fast. We like their nursery a lot -- not too big so it's not too overwhelming and reasonable prices. They have a large parking lot right in front so it's easy to shop here. And if you come around lunch time, there's usually a food truck so you can pick up some cheap eats on your way out! read more

I tried to return some rat pellets today and the return lady was rude. She refused take it back even though it was within 30 days and didn't believe in customer satisfaction guarantee. Do not buy items like this from Anawalt. Go to Amazon or Ace. Also I don't see any written return policies posted in the store or online. By the way it was their salesperson that turned me on to these pellets. It was their recommendation. Also when the return lady was speaking to me there was a security guard witnessing the whole interaction. Her attitude was we are always right and there is something wrong with you. She stated that "all our products work". "If it doesn't work you must have a major infestation". I looked up on the internet and Kroger will refund this same product but not in store. The manufacturer of the product I spoke to was willing to give a refund with a receipt and product code from the back of the box. Like I stated I never experience a response like this from any retail store trying to return an item. This business has been around for generations as I remember as a kid seeing it at this same location. It is a small wonder why their customer service has not evolved through all these decades in existence. read more

I always have a good time visiting Anawalt in West Los Angeles. The guys there really helped me yesterday. I brought an attic fan in and hoped they would have a replacement for me. After I showed it to them, they said it seemed okay and then volunteered to test it in the back. I let them go with it. A few minutes later they waved me back to have a look. Sure enough, they had rigged it up to some power and the fan was working fine. I took it home and found the problem was a bad plug and had nothing to do with the fan itself. Just visited the lumber area at Anawalt Lumber (on Pico). Had a very simple request for the cost of a piece of plywood. The person behind the order desk had a lousy attitude. He was unhelpful and arrogant. When I explored options on my own, he came up to me and said "You can't look there!" I stated that there were no signs that instructed customers to keep out. He didn't care. He proceeded to show my two options (the first option did not align with the specifications that I shared). As he showed me a second option, he looked around and appeared disinterested/bored. Anawalt Lumber needs to evaluate salespeople and consider putting them throught a customer relationship/training program. I will never visit this location again. The salesperson couldn't care less, and had a very negative presence. read more
