This is my go to hardware store and paint store and garden store! Been living in the neighborhood since 1990. Takesha is my absolute favorite! She's so helpful and knowledgeable. During the Covid shutdown, I made a huge fruit and vegetable garden at my house, and she gave me so many tips and inspiration. I built planters from wood lumber. The guys in lumber would cut things to size for me. I bought bricks and cinderblocks and chain-link. So much soil and dozens of large ceramic pots. It was a pleasure to come into the store sometimes multiple times in one day. I'm still doing projects at home and I always feel welcome and get the best help at this location. read more

Not good at all. One of the rudest experiences I've had at any venue, so I thought it's worth writing about. Two stars instead of one, because the manager on duty said they were going to talk to the main manager tomorrow. I was simply trying to get a couple pieces of wood cut and immediately was met with a miller who did everything from our first encounter to let me know he didn't want to help me. He refused to make any eye contact or even look at the information I had written down regarding the cuts I needed. I asked him his name, and when he answered, he even begged me to go complain to the manager, said he would even do it himself! ("what's happening!" I kept wondering." almost laughable, twilight-zonish.) He proceeded to get the order wrong, something I caught when I was prepaying for the cuts inside the store. Once I returned to him he (Jeremy) belligerently blamed me for his error, did his best to exude snarkiness, and seemed as though he was finally going to get the confrontation he seemed to want from the beginning. All very odd since I wasn't going to get into some kind of personal squabble with him. There are other details which could make this truly disturbing but I'll leave it at this and hope the managers at Anawalt Lumber, a place I've been going to for more than 30 years (without this kind of incident) respond appropriately and show it really cares about its customers. If not, I'll take my business to another Anawalt: I've found the one at Sepulveda and Pico to be pretty courteous and friendly. read more

Great choice of plants and insect traps. I've bought everything from sand, soil, painters tape, to bolts here. Helpful staff in every department. Unfortunately, today when I was buying the fly sticky trap, the 5 minutes it took for me to pay for my product, I got bitten by some nasty invisible mosquito and now both my legs are itching badly with multiple bites. Just have to say that Jesus went out of his way to make sure I had all my needs met. He even suggested some other materials I could use to rebuild the base to my couch that gave out and broke. I came to pick up some soil and they helped me get the bags to the car. The clerk answered my questions about the pricing before purchase. I noticed some of G&B soil bags had holes on the sides and made sure not to get those. There is a parking lot so just pull in the driveway and you can get out from the back. I was looking for organic plants but didn't see that marked anywhere so I didn't get any. read more

Anawalt Lumber on North Robertson in West Hollywood is closer to Beverly Hills than the Anawalt on Pico Bl in West Los Angeles. First off, I come here only for gardening stuff: plants indoor and outdoor, soil, pottery etc and get consultation from the store staff on plant or product. The staff is knowledgeable for the most part, and are helpful. They offer delivery, for a reasonable fee. The garden section here is much smaller than the WLA location, but it is always stocked with a tad nicer things, probably because the clientele can and has affordable means to be Beaucoup buck$ spendy. Always enjoy a walk through and always find something irresistible to buy for myself or for gifting. To receive or gift a living flowering plant is thoughtful and nice. Anawalt Lumber is a hidden gem in West Hollywood. They've helped me with no end of house projects and the cut lumber to order for my DIY projects. But the real pleasure of this place is the garden section. It's small but mighty and Takisha who runs the department most days is incredibly knowledgeable and knows me and many of her customers by name. I needed help with an antique door knob. The screw pins were worn out and stuck. No one could help me get them out for me to replace them. Victoria at Anawalt was amazing. She spent a lot of her time to find the right size pins and managed to get the stuck pins out. It was a miracle. I could not thank her enough. Anawalt is lucky to have her. read more

Love to shop here. The employees here are so helpful and friendly every time I come in. The other day, I needed to get material for wooden parallel bars. They had a great selection and were more than happy to size them for me right away, even tho they were busy. Overall, a nice place, decent service, plenty of selections. Way better than the nearby Home Depot! The only thing that needs improvement - is having more cashiers available (sometimes only 1 register is open, causing an unnecessary checkout line and long wait times), - and also it takes awhile a staff-member to show up -if you need help finding something. Here's the reason to patronize your local hardware store for lumber: excellent customer service. This weekend, I was looking for lumber to close gaps on both sides of my stove (so my cat wouldn't walk behind it). Jeremy in the Anawalt West Hollywood lumber department was amazing. He worked with me to size the boards from videos and photos, and because the space was inconsistent, he let me take the boards home, try them, and come back for adjustments. Jeremy was extremely patient, made great suggestions for each adjustment, and even recommended moving the stove to one side so it only needed one board. I was impressed with his expertise and willingness to work through this problem. I now have the two sides of my stove purrfectly blocked to kitty cats. Thank you Jeremy and Anawalt! read more

I love the indoor plants and pots at Anawalt WeHo and stuff in hardware section too for last minute things like lightbulbs or nails. I have 2 beautiful large indoor plants from Anawalt that have thrived over past 2 years (no bugs or issues when purchasing which sometimes happens from other places like Home Depot). I went to Anawalt last weekend for a beautiful ponytail palm and had to go back today for another large dracaena and pretty pot I couldn't stop thinking about. I cut my arm today while walking past a roll of fencing. That is not the issue. The manager was helpful and got me alcohol wipes and a bandaid because my arm was bleeding. My hands had blood on them so I went to the cashier to ask for hand sanitizer. She told me to use the hand washing station outside. I informed her that I had already tried to use it and that there was no soap, she just repeated, go use the hand washing station. What is the point during a pandemic if both of the soap dispensers are empty??? Then one of the men in line started yelling at me because he was agitated and in a hurry. He probably had no idea that I had blood all over my hands. So the cashier just turned her back and started helping him. Not a good experience. read more

I came in to get some supplies for a memorial garden I was looking to create and she helped me not only find everything I needed, but also made recommendations on what plants could thrive in the area and also how to construct the base layers. I'm not a gardener and had no idea what I was doing but she made it extremely simple and she helped me come up with a vision so all I had to do was execute it. We shop here pretty frequently and each time seems to be a little different...garden venter staff is pretty helpful but main building not so much all the way to downright rude. Today I looked up s place to drop some old paint cans via paint care .org When I arrived the cashier told me I could only drop off 2 gallons, their manager Ray told me 5, but when I started to ask logistics questions, her interrupted me, talked over me and completely ignored anything I was saying. I tried to tell him there was some wrong info being giving out about their store and he ignored that too and brushed me off. I drove around back to the lumber area (where they actually take the paint) and the guys were super friendly, eager to help and much more knowledgeable about drop off. Pro tip: just skip the store and drive to lumber where they were much more helpful.... Ray should brush up on his people skills and the whole staff should know the answer to a question before answering. Or get someone who does know read more

I've been coming here close to 30 years. I'm a local. I'm doing a huge food garden project right now for my non profit animal rescue. We plan to sell our yield at a local farmers market. The hardware and lumberyard and store in general are amazing with great customer service if you can manage to stay in the store long enough. I was in the store before noon the temp was 86 degrees outside. I had to check when I got to my car as I almost fainted from the heat and lack of air conditioning in the store. The store is so well put together but lack of airflow does not make it appealing to shop there, I believe this company could do better for there customers and employees by investing in air conditioning. read more
