This place is unbelievably underwhelming. Service 10 minutes in is non existent, and the menu is very limited for people who don't eat meat. Their staff has little to no urgency whatsoever. They Usually have Bands that make it difficult to even hold a conversation. If I was coming for drinks and to enjoy a band, I can imagine this would be an excellent place. They also have a nice big playset for kids to entertain themselves, but its not monitored well so kids are constantly getting hurt. We have been here enough times now with similar experiences. I can confidently say we won't return. The smaller place across the river has been a much better experience for me and my family. read more

Hey..who ever had a bad taco...big deal right. The shells were nasty soggy rags. They put two together so they did fall apart. The beef? Not taco filling!!! Someone browned burger and put it in soggy shells..or possibly microwaved precooked burger. No seasoning. None. Not taco seasoning...no salt. We had heard that the old owners bought back anchor in, and we gave him another try. I ordered their prime rib sandwich.And when I got it, it was dry and old.I asked if I could get our shoe and I was told we only make a zhu on thursdays. I've been in the food business for forty eight years.I've never heard that in my entire life. My wife's hot dog was sub warm.Their onner rings are bought from some c***** a**.Vendor terrible. The only reason this place is open is because there are people here who don't care about their food.At all, they just will eat it anyway. Love Anchor Bar & Grill. Lots of great things about this restaurant & bar. Drink selections were outstanding. Tons of beers, seltzers & a full bar. Food was decent. I wouldn't say it was outstanding but what you would expect for bar food. This place is huge with a great outdoor seating area. My only complaint would be the minimum amount of tv's. If you are inside and in view of the bar they have 3 which is fine. Otherwise they don't have any others to watch. I really wish they had some outside under the covered deck. They also have a great playground for kids with a separate outdoor bar and patio(which does have 2 small tv's). read more

Went back since management changed back to the original owners. We were so excited. Food was okay. Nothing I need to rush back for. Service was very slow considering it was empty. One of my pet peeves is the staff just hanging around talking and not working when there is work to be done. I have been in the service business for 40+ years and that has always been frowned upon. read more

Stopped in during our travel to IL and we had gift cards so thought we would check it! Decent amount of parking and the restaurant is very welcoming - tall ceiling and a view next to water is always nice! We sat at the bar and the seats are very wide and comfortable! Beer list on the wall via tv screen not ideal so took a pic of it and zoomed in Food selection was diverse it was a Friday so the fish fry options looked good I choose an appetizer and side salad which was delicious the hubby had the grinder sandwich and fries which had lots of flavor Bartender seemed busy and distracted so not very attentive but likely just having a off night Live music from 6-9 on Friday so that was nice too! Stopped in at the Anchor for a Monday night dinner (wish they had live music on the weekdays). Servers were attentive even though they were very understaffed. Food was great. Cheese curds are some of the best on the Rock River! A must get. The pickle fries are okay, would recommend trying something else. I had the Shipwreck, Applewood smoked bacon, pulled pork & French fried onions w/smokehouse bbq sauce. Both burgers were excellent! This place is huge!! Outside two stages, fire pit, playground and an abundance of seating inside and out. Our server Allison is excellent! Prompt friendly and attentive! (She gave 5 Star worthy service) Jarryd the bartender unfortunately does not live up to the exceptional service level of Allison. When first seated I asked Jarryd if he would put the IndyCar race on one of the many televisions. He seemed put out by my request and said he needed to complete his drink orders first. That was fair enough..... however when the orders were completed , he had time to socialize, play on his phone and do many things not related to customers (paying attention to an outside female bartender) or simply put the race on one of the televisions. Luckily I have Peacock TV and watched the end of the race on my cell phone. It truly wouldn't have bothered me if he was too busy working, however being a rabid IndyCar fan, this dinged the establishment one star. read more

Over priced, small portions, lacking service, no water. This is why people don't tip. Burgers were overcooked, we were never asked how we wanted them cooked. They were pre-frozen so that was a turn off right away, I ordered a slice of raw onion instead I got the two most outer rings of the onion only, what a slap in the face... I also asked for a cup of mayonnaise to dip my fries in... Another slap in the face The server brought ONE packet of mayo. I mentioned to her that I asked for a cup of mayo, she said that's all they have... No desire to try and fix it or remedy it. The waitress came back said how is everything and I said terrible, at which she seemed shocked. I told her I had asked for a cup of mayo, yet the server brought out one packet of mayo and said that's all they have. I did finally get my cup of mayo, but in two hours never once was given water. The only thing that was important was to keep asking if we were ready to close out, are you ready to close out... Multiple times... No one cared to bring us water or ask us if you want another drinks just if we were ready to close out. Basically I don't intend on visiting this place ever again. Our experience for lunch was different than other patrons. Pulled in looking for a mom & pop place (not a chain) on our way from Chicago to central WI. This place has a huge parking lot and an Ada ramp at the entrance. Sign said seat yourself and Julie, our server, met us at the table b4 we sat down. She took our drink orders and gave us a few to look at the menu. Drinks came right away. We got the pulled chicken from the pit and the fish fry (cod). Another guy brought the food out in good time - chicken was warm and the fish was hot. Chicken was moist & flavorful. Served with creamy Cole slaw and roasted corn with a nice smoking spicy flavor. 6 sauces table side to choose from. Fish fry was beer battered, and the batter was flavorful, if I bit salty. No vinegar, but lots of lemons (I don't like tarter sauce, but it came with it). Served with Cole slaw and beer battered fries. There was a band setting up while we were there (this seems to be a big place for live music) We didn't know it was on the water, but they are and they have a huge outdoor patio with separate bar. There are tie-up for boats along the docks. This place should be hopping in the warm weather. Side note: the ladies room (3 stalls) was the CLEANEST smelling bathroom in a bar I have been in a long time. read more

Way over priced for what they serve! Food was horrible. Service was bad and I ordered loaded nachos. Wasn't what I was expecting, it just had some cheese sauce and boiled chicken on it. I gave it a chance but I didn't like it, because it was bland had no flavor. Only had 2 chips, and sent it back. We were still charged for it, so we asked to speak to a manager on our way out. The manger was SO rude, and said well you have food in your container, had to show her it wasn't the nachos(like really? There was two of us that ate) and then she refused to take it off the bill/reimburse us for the 17.00 nachos we didn't even eat. And we were never given water or asked if we wanted refill, nor did we get silverware. We will NEVER go back there, can't believe how rude they were. I'd give zero stars if we could. read more

I wanted to love this place, the concept is great. They have so much outdoor seating, grass and deck areas, on the river. They have live music at night. When we drove past on a trip up north, I was excited to see it on the side of the road for a lunch break. The menu is big - maybe too big. Lots of apps, tacos, sandwiches, fish, salads, wings, etc. after asking for the server's input I went with the mango chicken salad. It sounded light. My parents got a ham & cheese panini style sandwich and a BLT, both with fries. The food was ok. The sandwiches weren't bad, the fries delicious and the sauces were fun to try. My salad was good - lots of chicken, sweet mango, crunchy chips. There wasn't much mango and they forgot the dressing but I wasn't worried since the honey mustard was on the table anyway (and delicious). It was all good until I found multiple hairs lower down, very much mixed into my salad. While they were very apologetic & made me a new salad to go (we wanted to hit the road again) they forgot the chicken and dressing on this. Overall service was a mess. They didn't seem to have anything organized and kept taking unnecessary trips back and forth which really slowed everything down. When I went to ask about the hair, our waitress was nowhere to be found since she was apparently also working in the kitchen? This spot has so much potential if they get it organized with server sections, make their menu smaller and really focus on the drinks and live music. I'm sure it's a great spot to hang at night but the whole experience was a little frustrating even with our waitress being very friendly while running around somewhat aimlessly. read more

We were driving thru the town and saw that the Anchor offered breakfast. We stopped and grabbed a table outside. The place is nice and big. Our server was friendly and prompt. We all ordered cocktails. I got a mimosa and my friends each got a Bloody Mary. All the drinks were good. I got the broccoli and cheese omelet which was very good. It was a good size and came with American potatoes and toast. They have a nice stage set up outside and you can rent kayaks and paddle boats right there (not sure if they them or a place next door, I didn't inquire). They were clearly very understaffed and the one bartender they had wasn't very good. We saw several people come up to the bar- wait patiently for 20/30 minutes and never get asked if they wanted a drink when they had wallets out ready to order. Most gave up and walked out. The bartender wasn't even making others drinks just moving glasses around. This place could be making a lot more money and the bartenders could be getting a lot more tips if they would just serve drinks/food. My suggestion would be to give the bar a dedicated bar back so the bartender can make drinks and enter food orders. Really just one or two more people out there would make the difference. read more

Have been to Anchor many times by land and by boat, since we are year round residents. Had to call to find out which pier to park my boat at, and that was confusing as hell. Got off the boat went up and sat down at a table that looked like it was open, had a used uncleaned ashtray at it. 4 waitresses walked past us in 15 mins and didn't even acknowledge either of us were There, or that apparently we were sitting in a closed section. Finally asked waitress, and was told we were sitting in wrong area. Got up went to a new table and still not even so much as an offer to come back and take our order. We left and went to Lakeview where we will be well taken care of with fast speedy service! Very disappointed and probably won't be back. Been going to this place for Years!!!! read more

This place has so much potential....but someone needs to call professionals to help this mess out. Service was terrible, although they had a sign to bare with them cause they were the only ones that didn't call in. I ordered Shrimp and fries and I got 6 shrimp on a skewer that were cold and paid around &17.00 for that. Are you kidding me. I did get a refund. We (5) group would have had a better meal from Culver's. They were out of everything. My son wanted red beans and rice....Nope...no rice...so he asked for just the beans.
