We dined here a few weeks ago and were sorely disappointed. The atmosphere is dark and the temperature was quite cold. We started with the Cheese and Relish Tray appetizer. The charcuterie was a sliced Hot Dog. There was a liquid cheese in a little pot, raw vegetables, sliced cheese and typical crackers. Not what you'd find at a Supper Club. The Soups were OK. The Salad was mixed greens in a very small bowl so when you stuck a fork in it the greens fell out. The Entre's were the Surf & Turf, which was a 6 oz sirloin and scallops. The steak was average and one scallop was the sizeof a quarter and the other was the size of a nickel. The "Smashed Potatoes" that we offered were served cold. The waitress apologized and offered to warm them up - we passed. She came back and said there was something wrong with the heater and thanked us for telling her. The service was friendly, but the courses were served too closely together. An older gentleman in a blue T-shirt, on the staff, kept interrupting our dinner. They have a way to go before reaching the Supper Club moniker. read more

Im going to keep this short and sweet. Location was easy to get to. The building itself was really neat. The bar staff was awesome. Bar drinks were just that, bar drinks. The dinning room was a little weird. There were plants everywhere and the dinning table were a different shapes ( we had a round and square pushed together). It really didnt have a supper club feel. The food was less than desirable. We had 7 in our group and nobody had anything good to say about the food. Prime rib very bland and no Au jus or horseradish to dip it in. Vegetable mix was luke warm at best and still hard. I know restaurants can have an off night, but to have that many meals not be good in one visit doesn't give me confidence my next visit would be any better. read more

Friday Fish. Solid! . Pan seared Walleye and Rosti potatoes were spot on! My wife had battered cod and fries- both done perfectly. Tartar and slaw were fine- nothing spectacular. But both were warm.. First time dining since the reopening. We tried both the fried and baked cod. Although both were good, the baked was by far our favorite. The old fashioned was also a hit. The cherries were wonderful! Looking forward to trying the new ice cream drinks when that are coming soon! read more

Nice homey feel. Small dining room, but warm and cozy with a fireplace. Or I thought there was a fireplace. You first walk into the bar area (expecting someone to yell NORM!) I had the Walleye and it was my first time. It was so nice and delicate. No over powering sauce. The Chowder was creamy and thick but you can't notice the clams in there. My family has been coming here for about 20 years and always enjoy our dinners and a drink or two at the bar. Its too bad a couple reviews weren't very good but don't let those keep you away. Just about my favorite restaurant and we travel a lot. We've been eating at the Lake House at least once a week for years. The food is consistent and "old Wisconsin" with soup AND salad along with the traditional relish tray. The martinis are amazing and a great pour for the money. read more

this review is based on an experience in november of 2005: we arrived about 15 minutes early for our 8:00 reservation, so we sat at the bar to get a drink. after the hostess looked like she wasn't too busy, i told her that our party was ready; she put us at the worst table in the house (by the kitchen doors). we sat, unattended and without water, for ten minutes. finally some harried lady came rushing over to say she'd be with us in a second and sorry for the wait. at this point, we decided we were never going to get our food. about 3 minutes later, our crazy, rushed waitress came back and took our order. we ordered the deep-fried clam appetizer, and she said, "good luck getting an appetizer! i've been waiting for onion rings for the back room!" and she ran away. then, a completely different waitress came over and asked if we had been helped, and i said "yes, we placed our order, but we'd love some water." it had been almost 20 minutes since being seated. fast forward through the run-of-the-mill salads and pretty good clams to the announcement that our waitress had to "find" the french onion soup that we ordered; which we deduced was the reason for it being room temperature upon delivery. finally, our entrees arrived at 8:45. EIGHT FORTY FIVE. my walleye pike was so-so, but the filet is wrapped in bacon and we forgot to ask them not to. luckily the total was only $35 and some change. kurt was pained to leave only a 10% tip; his usual is over 20%. read more

The only reason why I can give my experience at Lake House Inn two stars is because our waitress was very nice and the menus are very cool with the history of the inn on them. The food was appalling...I ordered the grilled cod and it was rubbery, tasteless and I had to force myself to swallow it because it cost $14.95. The potato tasted like it had been cooked a week ago and the salad that came with my meal was old brown lettuce from a bag with Wal-Mart Italian dressing. It was shockingly bad. My husband ordered the unlimited fish fry and that was a bit better and the fries were decent. The bathroom was sad and the entire place was just dingy and dirty. My grandparents wanted to try this place after seeing it in an area magazine and took myself and my parents. Being an extremely hot and humid day, had to ask multiple times for our waters to be refilled. I had the seafood platter and it was okay. The cod was cold when it reached the table. Others had ribeye and prime rib stating the pieces were very thin and again okay in taste. Once the bill reached our table, within minutes the waitress was hovering my grandmother offering to help her. I wanted to respond and tell her to back off to not rush an 85 year old woman but grandma handled that. I've never had to answer so many questions to get my food brought to me. I thought there was a choice of soup or salad but no, it's soup and salad. I had the scallops, after asking if they were big (despite being told yes, they were in fact not big scallops and tasted like they came out of a freezer bag). Everyone at the table who ordered meat seemed to enjoy it so I'd recommend asking what's fresh and just going with that. The atmosphere and the service was great and what one craves when one visits a small town. Add in the fact that they have Spotted Cow on tap for an extremely reasonable $2.50 and you're getting a lot of value for what you pay. read more

The Axell family runs this old restaurant. The prices are reasonable, The beer and wine selection leave something to be desired. The wait is usually long from 7:00 on. The time at the table between seating and salad is TOO LONG. The waitresses are pretty good but many times they just seem overwhelmed if a party is in the banquet room. Quintesential Wisconsin supper club. Go there three times a year when on vacation in the Edgerton/Milton area. Fried chicken that is as good as any Henny Penny. Very flavorful fish fry. The fried frog legs our outstanding. The bartender is very personable and the charm of the historical building grabs your attention. It is a local establishment, so it is expected that the workers may engage more with the regulars. Once seated, though, their attention is directed to you. Seating - when we have been there on the weekends - can be immediate, but we once had to wait up to one hour because of the small, intimate dining room. But the way I see it, the longer the wait equates to a greater quality of food and respect of the patrons by the workstaff. A winning combination. read more

The bathtooms are filthy. Bartender tried to charge us $24.00 for one old fashioned. The waiters acted annoyed when we were not ready to order after having our menus for all of 30 seconds. I asked if we could get a relish tray and she said if we order a dinner. What? They are on the menu as a starter. Shouldn't we be able to have one if we ask for it? Then she did not come back to the table for over 15 minutes. So we sat there for at least 10 minutes feeling hungry and thirsty, watching relish trays be delivered to table after table. She said she didn't forget about us as she walked by, but then took the order of the table that was sat after us. I went to the hostess looking for a resolution and she was not helpful or appologetic at all. I was appalled that not one of the people working there tried to make us happy after being ignored and over charged. We walked out and I will never be back. The place is a dump. read more

I'm a frequent visitor to the Lake House, and every time I go there, I'm impressed with the down-home feel of the place. The bar is kind of dark and cave like, but the dining room is warm and inviting - especially in the winter when the woodburning fireplace is blazing. The fish/chicken combo is my fav, and I believe it's a special on both Thursday and Friday night.s The meal starts out with a tray of olives, radishes (hubby loves 'em), onions, etc. with dipping sauce. Then comes either the soup du jour or salad, both of which I find to be very pleasing. I always find the wait staff to be friendly and attentive, though usually busy since they wait a lot of tables. read more

My husband and I decided to give this place a try. We walked in to the hostess station and sat for over 10 minutes unacknowledged. The place didn't look especially busy. I got irritated enough that I approached one of the bartenders and asked if the hostess station was manned. She looked at me and half heartedly said they were busy and were trying to get organized. The other bartender stared directly at me and didn't say a word before I spoke with this one. Another customer at the bar actually asked if I needed help before either of the bartenders. Needless to say, we left. This place could care less about customer service, I will never go in there again. If you are busy, fine, at least greet me and explain that. I wouldn't bother with the Lakehouse ever again. As a positive, we went to Frederick's in Milton and had a great meal. read more

I asked the gal at the bar if she had an IPA to which she smugly replied "We certainly do not". Apparantly their Miller, Bud, Pabst selection was working well for them as it was a Saturday night, Packers-49ers game and there wasn't a sole sitting at the bar. Even the locals won't go there. The food wasn't even mediocre by supper club standards. I've had better fried walleye at Culvers. They offer an "au gratin" potato option but only if you're a party of less than 8....huh?....avoid this place. There's a McDonalds down the road, better food and service. read more

This used to be our favorite restaurant in the area. Unfortunately, we will not return. Reservations do not appear to be honored and it goes downhill from there. The service - normally exceptionally friendly- was abysmal. After waiting more than hour with no food in sight (and not a full house), we left. No one seemed too concerned about that. if you are sensitive to smells this is not the place for you. carpeting on entrance steps is covered with mold. my hats off to the wait staff...they were prompt and pleasant . my steak was good and prepared to the correct doneness for me. the sides arrived cold and were definitely canned. several others a my table experienced cold entrees...but our waitress graciously took them back to the kitchen and promptly brought replacements. the historic old building is beautiful but in obvious need of work. all in all I would not eat there again read more

Unless your a "local" and everyone knows you--dont expect to be greeted or seated (even with a reservation) without having to ask someone. We have been to the Lake House several times before with family who live in the area-so this was never an issue -- until Saturday. My husband and I decided we would go out for a nice dinner (without the local family joining us) and made reservations for 5:00. We got there at 4:59 and came into the bar and stood by the restaurant door waiting to be seated. The place was dead--the bartender looked at us and went over to visit with the only 2 seated people at the bar. We stood there and waited and waited-and then 7 local people came in right behind us. This tall, older man came out of the restaurant and looked at them and said table for 7. Since I was 2 inches from him--and we were standing there waiting--it puzzled me as to why he wouldnt even ask us if we needed to be seated. So I said to him--table for 2 please and he rudely said " Do you have a reservation" and I responded "Yes we do". We wont be going back anytime soon.... even though the waitress Emily and the food was wonderful. read more

Recommendation: STAY HOME! Call the Health Department for health code violations! RUN the other direction! So, this "Lake House Inn" visit (Sunday, June 9, 2013), was recommended by a close friend. This was to be a graduation celebration event. Tried to call for reservations on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday the phone number would not even go through, Sunday, rang through, no pick-up. Guess that should have been a BIG "hint" of what was to follow. My family and I arrived around 4 p.m. for a late lunch. On the way, and driving on the dirt road to the actual Lake House building, my children mentioned that the building looked "like it is falling down", and a "sketch" facility. NOT GOOD for first impression. We almost turned around before arrival. The room set-up was adequate, standard "1950's" style tables, chairs, cloth tablecloths, napkins, but very DARK interior - almost "creepy". We also walked into and through the front door which leads directly to the bar. I was not impressed with this "entrance", and neither were the rest of our family. Eventually, we placed an order to appetizers, along with a couple items from the luncheon menu. Note: one of my children decided against ordering any luncheon items after the rest of the family's appetizers arrived - SOGGY, GREASY and inadequately prepared onion rings, overcooked cheese curds, SOGGY, WARM, NOT in ICE shrimp cocktail. Then two meals arrived. One was a simple cheesburger - edible but not "great" Fries, so-so. The other was a steak sandwich which was ordered "medium, as in pink". It arrived PURPLE in color, and the toasted bread for the sandiwsh was BURNED. We sent back the onion rings, the shrimp cocktail, and the steak sandwich. These items were removed from our bill. I also tried to order a "lemonade", but after further inquiry decided against this, as was told the lemonade was "artificial". The prices for all this BAD FOOD were very steep, and certainly the "return on investment" was NOT worth the cost charged. At this point (about 45 minutes into this, our FIRST AND LAST "visit"), I mentioned to our waitress that we would be leaving, to provide us with our bill, and as we departed mentioned to the cashier how unhappy we were with our "experience". Reaction: BLANK STARE, and "oh". Note: on the way out, and down the stairs - someone (in between our arrival time, and departure time), had tied up their PIT BULL dog directly to the right of the stairs, and next to the front entrance. Needless to say, our family was deeply concerned that we would be able to leave without injury as the dog was barking and aggressive. Not sure if belonged to the business owner, or a patron. Expect they'll be sued in the near future, if they haven't already. What a dump! Never again!. read more
