This is a nice place with good service just north of the Illinois State Line in Wisconsin. Ambiance wise, you have "old steakhouse" vibes galore, but it stops there. The wine list is fair - they have some good wines at good price points. We selected a J Lohr Cabernet. The first thing served was their bread basket. It had two dinner rolls and two cinnamon rolls along with breadsticks. Quite good! My wife ordered their steak and 3 fried shrimp dinner. The waitress noted they got coconut shrimp, and provided a nice orange sauce with them, as well as the shrimp sauce. The steak was served with Au Jus/ I went for their 10 ounce Filet Mignon. Both of us selected a baked potato, and paid an upcharge for a cup of their baked French Onion Soup. The Baked French Onion soup threaded the needle between "too scalding hot to eat" and "not cooked enough to be hot" perfectly. The cheese and crouton over the top were PERFECT, the soup temperature was hot but not SCORCH your MOUTH hot - it was perfect! The steaks - well, not so good. We both ordered our steaks "medium rare" which is a warm red center. The best way to describe the steaks was just past rare, and not medium rare. Send them back? No, we don't do that. The baked potatoes were perfectly executed, cooked properly and were just great. The steaks were served on a bed of mushrooms (which I ate before I remembered the camera has to eat FIRST, sorry). For the filet, it wasn't as tender as I would have hoped for at the price point. They will also custom cut a filet or any cut of steak to your weight, shooting for 4 ounce increments, which is reasonable. Service was very good, the water glasses stayed filled, although we had to fill our own wine glasses. Dessert was Turtle Cheese Cake, which is a specialty of the location. It was quite good. The restaurant was comfortable - we ate with our coats off, and were near a door. The view out the back is quite enchanting. This place is worth a visit! read more

My mom and I stopped late on a Saturday night and the food was incredible - we had steak and scallops. It was quite chilly, so we would suggest you dress for that. Don't forget to plan time to enjoy an ice cream drink at the bar. The service could have been a tad more timely and waitress a little nicer - it was our first visit. Can I tell you that how much WE LOVED this supper club!!! We went here to visit our cousin who lived in Beloit and this place came highly recommended from Discover Wisconsin. We ordered out old fashioned (sweet and sour) and our server was extra caring and asked us if we wanted olives or cherries. The dining room we sat in was a nostalgic year blue color and look like a blast from the past which I absolutely love. It was a Friday, so definitely had to get the Fish Fry. The fish had the right amount of batter, and very little oil. The surface and turf was so succulent- the lobster tail poached to perfection and the steak was juicy af. What a great supper club! I always love coming here. The baked french onion soup is a great pairing with my amaretto sour & pasta. We stayed in the bar area after dinner and listened to the band. Everyone here treats you like family. Hands down one of my favorite WI supper clubs. We ordered the prime rib and the walleye with the side of Augratin potatoes. Our butter knives cut the steak better than the steak knives they provided. The potatoes tasted as if they had been sitting for a day or two. The walleye was not deboned well at all. Our server was the best part of the experience. Overall, extremely disappointed. read more

My family and I recently had a big get-together at The Butterfly celebrating my Dad's 80th birthday. I've been there before and will definitely go back, but this time around, it had some disapointing drawbacks, so I can't give it a 5-star review (this time). First, the good stuff: The Butterfly totally nails that Wisconsin supper club vibe. The lively bar area, with its band and busy cocktail waitresses, sets a fun tone for the whole night. Even when it's packed, the staff really tries hard to get well made drinks and food out pretty quickly, and the cocktails are always really good! Our group of about 20 was in a private reserved room. While it fit us, the long, narrow layout felt cramped. It was hard for both our family and the servers to move around, and you couldn't really talk to anyone who wasn't sitting right next to you. I'd give that room a 5/10 - I'd prefer the main dining area for a big group next time. Our servers were friendly enough, but they seemed too busy to give us their full attention, and their check-ins were pretty hit-or-miss so it was hard to get issues addressed in a timely manner. They did their job, but it wasn't very personal or warm. I'd give the service a 6/10. Unfortunately, the food was the biggest letdown of our visit. I'm not sure if we had a special menu for the large group, but the way the food was made and presented was the problem. Everything, from the salads to the main dishes, felt like a cheaper version of what I've had there before. Salads were just carelessly thrown on the plate, and the steaks - which most of us ordered - were way undercooked and looked sloppy leaving the 'crispy' onion ring garnish sitting in puddles and soggy. We still don't know what it mean to get a 'loaded' baked potato as it looked just like a baked potato with melted cheese on it. My wife ordered the 10oz filet, and I ordered the 6oz, but mine was significantly smaller, maybe even a 1/4 of the size of hers. I also ordered it medium-rare, but it was definitely rare. My wife's steak had to go back (also rare) and even then, it wasn't right (still rare); we ended up taking it home in a doggy bag. My brother's ribeye was basically raw; he asked for it to be seared, but it came back still rare but with sear marks on it. After waiting yet again to get our server's attention for the 3rd time, he gave up and ate it anyway, calling it "poached." The ingredients were all fresh, but the food just looked like it was thrown on the plates without any care. In my opinion the kitchen needs to focus on the overall quality and how the food looks, not just getting it out fast, your prices demand that. We made a reservation on their website for 4 people on a Wednesday. They have a fish fry special on Wednesdays. We got there early and sat at the bar. The service at the bar was great. The bartender came over immediately as we were sitting down and greeted us. Got our drinks within 1 minute of being there. VERY REASONABLE PRICES ! We were sat at our table. THE ONLY NEGATIVE THING I WILL SAY is the chairs are uncomfortable. Our waitress was a younger brunette girl- her service was great. She was quick and had a great attitude. My salmon was great. I am in Sales and took three associates from a valued client to the Butterfly Club for a Christmas dinner. The food was average however the service was unbelievably poor. The server did not greet or welcome us. She was very rude throughout our dinner. I was so embarrassed. It was very awkward. The server was especially rude to the female at our table. My client did not order a cocktail and only ordered a salad instead of an entree. The server acted upset that she ordered so little. Recently I have read poor reviews and heard from others that the Butterfly Club service is not what it used to be and that both the servers and managers are unprofessional. On our way out the young female manager asked how our experience was. I shared with her that our server was rude, seemed irritated and unfriendly. The response I received was a robotic "sorry you feel that way". She didn't ask any follow up questions and walked away. At one time the Butterfly Club was my favorite supper club experience. Based on this latest episode I will no longer patronize this establishment. I apologized to my clients for selecting this restaurant. The Butterfly Club used to be a special treat. Old time supper club bar. Soft music (some call it hokey but we enjoyed it) and decent food. So we made the mistake of making reservations on Valentine's Day 2026. We were fortunate to find a seat at the bar prior to our reservation; we arrived early to be sure. We noticed that the tables on the side of the bar that are usually reserved for bar patrons were being seated for dining as well as some patrons eating at the bar. That was strange. Not to mention that most drinks at the bar were $10-$12+++ This is not typical for a Wisconsin supper club. We reminded the hostess of our reservations when the time had passed, and were seated pretty quickly. We were horribly disappointed to be given a "special Valentine's menu" with prices basically doubled from their regular menu prices. I ordered a filet and shrimp and my husband ordered a ribeye. Mind you, at least $10-$15 over menu prices. The food was absolutely horrible. The steaks had no flavor what-so-ever. We both took some home hoping we could doctor it up for leftovers. NOT. My filet was edible. My husband had to throw his ribeye out as it was too tough to chew. But back to the dining experience. We came for the meal, and hoped to stay for the music. As we made our way to an empty bar table we were told we weren't allowed to sit there as they were too busy for Valentine's Day and had to use the tables for dining patrons. And there were no seats at or around the bar. So by 8 p.m. we were forced to leave on what should have been a special night. The Butterfly no longer cares about their patrons and I doubt we will ever go back. It is a longer drive for us, but we always felt it was "worth it." Food = 1 Service = 1 Ambiance = 4 I took my family here over the weekend. I would not normally have tried this as it rated 3 stars, but we wanted to try someplace new and decided to gamble. Lesson learned. We each tried a different meal, chicken pasta, NY strip and shrimp, kabob and roasted duck. The kabob and duck was just "okay". The strip and shrimp were awful. Quite possibly the worst steak I've ever had. I ordered medium and it was beyond well done. No flavor whatsoever and chewy. When you don't add any flavor such as butter or garlic it's hard to imagine how this gets screwed up, but they managed to do so. The shrimp was the same, dry and chewy, with a bunch of seasoning thrown in after being cooked. The chicken pasta was very bland and not cheesy at all. The service was also horrible with not much attention paid to us at all. It seemed like they were spread thin with our waitress having too many tables to manage. The only good thing that had potential was the over layout of the restaurant. Pretty cool, but not nearly enough to mask the rest. In all fairness I did read the bad reviews and still chose to go here. All the bad reviews were spot on. Save your time and money, pass. We will not return to this restaurant. read more

We went on a Friday night and they were very busy, but the wait was only 30 minutes and there was ample seating in the bar area so it was nice to be able to sit down and enjoy some wonderful Old Fashioneds. Those guys were hustling and they didn't leave us high and dry - they actually waited on us after about a minute and had perfect timing checking back with us. It was refreshing to not have to try to flag someone down for service! After being seated our little group ordered a Fried Cod fish fry, a Prime Rib dinner, and a Scallop & Shrimp pasta dish in a heavenly cream sauce. All were excellent and piping hot. And my clam chowder was some of the best I've ever had. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, we wanted for nothing - she made sure of that! We were at the Butterfly a couple of weeks ago. A group of us about 8. The minute the bill was paid...we were asked to leave, immediately. We didn't have any time to talk etc. I thought that was rude of restaurant. You want some time to digest the horrible food we just swallowed. And it wasn't like we were there for very long. Honestly some of the worst food I have ever had at a restaurant. I ordered a 10 oz fillet cooked medium and the outside was burnt and had no flavor whatsoever not to mention it was the shape of a softball. I think they shook it up in a bag of Charcoal when it was finished. The au gratin potatoes were raw and had the texture of an Apple. My salad was very good. My brother also ordered a filet cooked medium rare. A portion of the steak was not even edible from being raw. See attached pic. My last gripe is we brought up my meal issue with who I believe to be a manager. The manager had the audacity to say as I only ate half they would take it off the bill. Went yesterday ( Sunday). Dani was our server. Lovely. I had the liver special which was delicious. It was sliced very thin so medium rare would have not been an option ( should have been advised) BUT it turned out great with bacon and onions. Our main concern was that out of our table of four the food was lukewarm at best. Potato so cold butter would not melt. It seems like they are resting on their laurels?? My first time at "The Butterfly Supper Club" was an experience. The Ambiance delivers a 1960 lounge classic feeling. With bar lounge dedicated to the 60's!! Service was at best bare minimum- my waiter barely gave eye contact or communication. Presented my menu asked the standard questions & parted ways. I ordered a 10z filet mignon "medium Rare". Presented to me gray , moderately warm, with a few added grill marks! Tagged along with mild sautéed mushrooms. I hope my next visit will be a better experience *side tip* paying to have your steak seasoned is comical!! Chefs should take pride in seasoning and preparation for the cuts of meat !! We have been patrons of the Butterfly Club for over 30 years. We have always enjoyed the lounge, the scenery and the retro feel. We recently dined at the Butterfly Club with another couple. The other three diners at the table ordered entrees, and I ordered a bowl of soup because I was not hungry enough for an entree. During the meal my husband offered me a small corner of his steak which he put on my bread plate. I had a few bites and returned the rest to him. When the bill came the waitress added a five dollar plate share penalty. When we questioned the fee she said that she noticed I ate some of my husbands steak and since I didn't order an entree she applied the fee. We were shocked and asked to speak to the manager. I know it is legal for a restaurant to implement a meal split charge, this fee helps offsets the cost of the extra plate, silverware, water, and staff time used. However, this practice is usually applied when two people share a single entree, not when a small amount of food is simply tasted or moved to an extra plate. In many cases, the fee is disclosed on the menu or by the server beforehand. The fact that I already ordered my own meal (soup) and my husband only gave me a little piece of his steak, on an existing bread plate, makes the charge unusual and unfair especially because it wasn't disclosed. The manager would not listen to our logic and rudely refused to remove the extra charge. When asked why they don't have the meal share charge on their menu she said that would be "tacky". It seems "tackier"to charge a patron an extra five dollars for sampling my husbands steak. It looks like the Butterfly Club we once enjoyed no longer exists. We will not be returning. read more

First visit and really not impressed. Several people recommended it to us. Made a 7:00pm reservation Saturday evening. Got there at 6:50 and we were told to wait in the bar and gave us a electronic buzzer to let us know when o or table was ready. At 7:45 I went up the desk and looked at the reservation book. Everyone at the 7 pm slot was crossed off except for us. When I asked the receptionist why that was, she told me that many people started waiting there at 5 PM for their 7 o'clock reservation. They go by a number system and how quickly you check in. I've never heard of that in my over 50 years of dining experience. Finally seated and anxiously awaiting a good meal to be worth the exercise. We started with a shrimp appetizer that had been sitting in the salamander for way too long, then went to our main courses, which were walleye, (lots of bones), a decent prime rib, and a shrimp dish that was again, overcooked . Wrapping up this experience, it was disappointing as we had heard such good things about the restaurant and we will probably give it another try on a different day. One positive thing was the vibe in the bar area. They had live music and it was nice to see everybody having a good time . We live twenty minutes away and the Butterfly Club has always been a solid, reliable choice for good food, cocktails and lounge-style entertainment. If we've eaten here 30 times I can't ever recall being disappointed in a meal or the evening there. The cocktail lounge is centered around a huge bar and what'a a bar if the bartenders aren't pros? The bartenders here are among the best - super qualified and they'll make you your drink - no matter how fancy - quickly and perfectly. Real pros at work there. The food prices have gone up like everywhere else but unlike most places - they haven't gone up unjustifiably. My wife is a vegetarian and she loved the pasta Alfredo and they added mushrooms, peppers and other veggies to satisfy her request - price was $17 and they added $3 for the special veggie addition - very reasonable. They have two beef filets - the 8oz is $34 and the 10oz I had was $38 and outstanding - accompanied by two large fried onion rings, 4-5 delicious mushroom caps and a nice size baked potato. Dinners come with soup or salad and an outstanding bread/cracker basket. Service is excellent and professional - no teens working their first job who'd rather be elsewhere. Some folks like to have a drink before their meal and others afterwards. I'm in the former category and always get there an hour early to enjoy a cocktail or two and listen to what seems to be a standard trio of entertainers crooning Sinatra and similar entertainers tunes. This is NOT the latest twenty-something hotspot for the see and be seen crowd. Nothing wrong with those folks or those spots but this is a well-established and respected supper club dining. Enjoy! Edit - One item I was a bit surprised about - although it was reasonable - my wife whispered to our server near the end of our meal that it was my birthday and wanted something with a candle. It was only two of us and the waitress brought out a whole birthday cake and it was $12 on the bill. Not out of line at all but I've never run into that before. we enjoyed our friday night out at a the Butterfly. I was not our best supper club but we were very happy with our choice. The staff as very sweet and helpful. The meals delicious and the ambiance - classic supper club!! The flavors were subtle - french onion soup had too much bread and croutons, the horseradish sauce was very very mild and the blue cheese dressing seem d to be regular ranch dressing with blue cheese crumbles on top. But those minor kinks did not diminish our experience! We especially enjoyed chatting with long-time employee Joy and listening to the lounge singers in the cocktail lounge near the main entry. Decided to try this place for the first time Sunday afternoon. The menu online looked amazing. We were celebrating my husbands birthday. He ordered a steak medium rare, and his steak was over done. Barely had any pink in middle. I ordered prime rib with au gratin potatoes. My prime rib was cold to the touch upon arriving to the table. No au ju offered so it was very dry. And the potatoes had zero flavor. As someone in their 30s, I see why older people like this place- because their taste buds are burnt off and they can't tell their food has zero flavor.
