After visiting many places and feeling discouraged, I finally found Kalnel Living. It was exactly what I was looking for. A place that was intimate, upscale, contemporary, felt like home, had good food, wonderful staff and was able to handle her medical issues. It was asking a lot, but Kalnel rose to the challenge. It was night and day better than any of the other places I looked at and when my friend moved in she was very happy there. The director (?), Stella, was honest about what they could and couldn't do, she never overpromised and always made me feel like she truly cared. She was extremely knowledgeable and was happy to share her recommendations and opinions. She went out of her way to make the intake process as smooth as possible. I can't say enough good things about Stella and Kalnel living. That is where I would want to go if I ever needed assisted living.

I cannot begin to express the joy we had in creating something fun and festive for such a deserving place. First and foremost, the idea they had to celebrate a fun day, bringing joy and distraction to their front-line staff and beloved residents resonated with us so much and we were struck by how giving and loving of an idea this was. From the planning phase to execution the entire process was a delight in helping bring their vision to life. And the day of the event was something hard to describe in words--it was overwhelmingly magical. People danced and smiled, and posed for photos and enjoyed one-another. Residents felt the love and welcomed this bit of an uplift and distraction, and staff felt honored and celebrated. They all came together to share in the festivities and from what we were told, the magical after-effect lasted days and days. Kudos to Kalnel Living for their wonderful idea and for treating their staff and residents, as well as us (the outside service they brought in to assist) with such respect and generosity. -Leesa Zelken, Owner/Event Planner www.sitcevents.com 310-399-3733

What was once presented as a safe place for elderly residents has turned into an environment that no human being should have to live in, especially vulnerable seniors who depend on others for care and dignity. From the moment you walk into the building, there is a strong and overwhelming smell of urine throughout the halls and common areas. The facility appears poorly maintained, dirty, and neglected. The conditions are unacceptable for any care facility that is responsible for the health and well being of elderly residents. On the final day we came to remove our family member from the facility, we witnessed feces on the floors and even smeared on walls. It was absolutely horrifying and something I will never forget. Our family member's room looked like it had not been properly cleaned or cared for in a very long time. It was obvious basic sanitation and upkeep were not being handled consistently. No family should have to worry whether their loved one is being kept in a clean and safe environment, yet that became a constant concern for us. What was even more alarming was the lack of professionalism and proper care from the staff. Many employees appeared extremely young, inexperienced, and completely untrained. It genuinely felt like people were simply handed a pair of scrubs and placed in charge of elderly residents without the knowledge, guidance, compassion, or qualifications necessary to care for human lives. The lack of urgency, attentiveness, and accountability was shocking. Instead of empathy and professionalism, our family was often met with rude attitudes and dismissive behavior. We spent years hoping conditions would improve, giving chance after chance because moving an elderly loved one is not an easy decision emotionally or physically. Unfortunately, things only became worse. Eventually we reached a point where we no longer felt our family member was safe there. If you value the quality of life, dignity, health, and safety of your elderly family member, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. No one deserves to spend their final years in conditions like this. I would not recommend this facility to anyone, and honestly I would not place my worst enemy there. The conditions and level of care we witnessed were beyond unacceptable and in my opinion this facility should be thoroughly investigated immediately

Words can not express the gratitude our family has for Gary and his staff at Westside Quality Care…read moreManor. We had to make the decision this year to put my 90 year old grandmother in assisted/full time care due to her dementia. What I thought was going to be a daunting task turned out to be a seamless process once we came across Gary and the Westside Quality Care Manor. Gary is not only highly qualified in the medical field as a registered RN nurse, but he and his entire staff are caring, loving and have a great sense of humor during what can be a difficult time for families and there loved ones. From the moment we stepped into Westside Quality Care Manor, it was sparkling clean, warm, his care givers were cooking home made food, they were chatting with there residents, and we witnessed family members stopping by to see there loved ones (un announced) which they encourage and was very important to me. At that moment I knew my sweet little grandmother was going to get all of the proper care and attention she needed. They also have a sweet dog named Simba, which they made sure to ask if we liked dogs before allowing Simba into the living area were we would sit with my Grandmother. I must add my Grandma loved dogs and loved Simba. My Grandma was so well cared for during her time spent at this wonderful place, Whilma one of her favorite care givers here always had her dressed in her favorite cozy outfits, and always would wash my Grandmothers hair with the most divine shampoo & Conditioner. This always made my family so happy to know my Grandmas's hygiene was at the highest level. I think I can attribute all of this to the fact that Gary, his family and staff stand by the fact of only taking on 6 patients/residents at a time. This was also extremely comforting to our family knowing that this was a small family run care facility, in which attention to all of there residents were of the highest priority. I want to thank Gary, his entire family & Whilma for taking such excellent care of my Grandmother. My entire family will be forever grateful to you all. Our community here in Culver City is so incredibly lucky to have you all! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Love, Kali, Maggie, Mike & Bogie
