Great place for information. Maps, advice, trinkets, art. Nice people. No bathrooms.

Excellent little spot full of information. Friendly staff. During the downtown Halloween extravaganza for kids to trick or treat, they had a haunted house in the cabin and the visitor center behind was open for business and giving away candy. So you know, there are two buildings with information. There is the rustic log cabin and the more modern building behind it. Just follow the yellow moose hood road from one to the next. Make sure to read up on the spirit bridge!

The Visitors Center was a great start for us to figure out some fun activities. We told them what we had planned, and they helped us fill in everything else. They have great organization there, separating out the brochures and maps by location and by interests. The staff, especially Joan, greeted us and made us feel like long lost friends! They were incredibly helpful and walked us through the walls of brochures and information. I recommend travelers stopping here if you have any questions or want to know some of the more local things to do when in Anchorage.

An excellent and helpful little visitor's center with lots of maps and guidance for the newly arrived tourist. They have a little gift shop section that sells great lip balm made in Alaska. Plus they have post cards you can write out and they'll mail for you. No complaints from me. They do have limited hours though so if you're looking for information after 7 pm, then you'll need to wait until the next day!

Surprisingly alot to do here - Trollys (some free) to alot of local attractions - including the zoo, ulu factory, brewery amongst other things. The log cabin itself is outfitted with a grass roof, gorgeous flower decor, and a giant rock. Lots of interesting articles and books about the great state of Alaska, as well as museum of monetary bills from around the world. Next door there is a indoor room with a collection of every Alaskan tourist pamphlet ever produced... in case that's your thing.

When in town, this is a good place to stop. There are two parts to the Visitor's Center: the Log Cabin, which is an awesome authentic log cabin and the separate building next door which is called the brochure center. I came downtown to rent a bike but the place I went to had closed for the winter. That's when I came into the Log Cabin to ask the volunteers where else there might be a bike rental place open? They got on the phone and called a bike store down the street and sent me over. The inside of the Log Cabin is charming. There is a stone fireplace and chimney with a fire going and it is surprising cozy. The ladies told me it was build in 1954 and is representative of the frontier spirit that Alaska represents. I was enthralled with the sod roof which had grass growing up on top! There were nice flower beds planted in the front--I LOVED the Log Cabin. Over at the brochure center next door, there was lots of information. An entire wall is organized and dedicated to maps, guides, brochures and hand-outs. Also, there is a computer that visitors can use to check their reservations and take a look at their email accounts. I had to deduct 1 YELP STAR because the 2 centers close down at 4:00 p.m. in the off-season, when there is still activity of people coming and going, including myself.

Being new to Alaska, we didn't feel comfortable doing any hikes on our own, and Bryce was a fantastic guide. He was on time for our pickup, friendly and informative throughout the drive to the trail head, and best of all, he stopped the van along the way for a surprise moose sighting in a lake by the highway. We were able to capture some great photos and videos of the moose grazing in the lake, from a close but safe vantage point, and without feeling rushed. Then the hike itself was great - again, beautiful throughout, and Bryce had great knowledge of the plants and area. He stopped a number of times to bring our attention to plants and mushrooms that are important or unique to the area and gave us time to admire the views at various stops (among them a stunning waterfall). Be sure to bring water and snacks for the hike, as it's long enough that we got a bit hungry. Go Hike Alaska has many offerings; this was the only one we did during our short Anchorage stay, but given our experience, we'll definitely seek them out again when back in the beautiful state.

It is not much of a park, it is more of a green space and outdoor amphitheater (lawn seating only). You will find it right by Anchorage's Visitor Center. There is metered street parking available within a reasonable walking distance and there are also commercial lots and garages available as well. The park's programming and events are facilitated by the Anchorage Downtown Partnership. In the Summer, the park hosts Music in the Park, a weekly lunch hour music series. The also hosts Music for the Little Ones, on Mondays in the Summer as well. The park is named after civil rights activist Elizabeth Peratrovich of the Tlingit Nation. Peratrovich fought tirelessly for Alaska Native equality. She was the catalyst behind the passage of the Anti-Discrimination Act of 1945, the first anti-discrimination law in the US. The park has been known to have high urban camper activity and they use this place to congregate and sleep frequently. This park does not have much of anything. No restroom, no picnic tables, no benches, no play area. So, its utility outside of a hangout spot or outdoor music venue is limited. It is in the heart of the tourist district though and you may find yourself here catching a quick recharge and strategizing.

Flight was on the ground and we were at the door at 5:55pm. Lady ignored us and locked the doors. There were a handful of renters that were left either finding a place to stay or staying in the parking lot in the rv. Checkout the following morning took a whole 10 minutes! So we had to delay our departure by 13 hours for a 10 minute process. For $4100 to rent the rv, I would think a reasonable amount of flexibility warranted. This delayed us getting to a scheduled fishing charter at cooper landing. The shuttle was also not running so we had to grab an Uber to get there. Be aware of this when considering flight times. The rv was ok.

Tour Company: Alaska Vacation Store OR WHitsett Travel, 330 E. 4th Avenue, Suite 203, Anchorage, AK…read more99501 Tour Operator: Wigi Tozzi 1(877)MY ALASKA (692-5275) Travel Dates: June 30 - July 6 2013 Experience Title: WORST EXPERIENCE DUE TO TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE This was by far the worst tour company I have ever dealt with. The owner of AlaskaVacationStore - Wigi Tozzi - lacks courtesy, etiquette, customer service and professionalism. He has no idea what 'customer satisfaction' means. I am really surprised the way this company operates and how they still manage to be in business?? Experience Details: Made first enquiry call to Wigi and thought of him to be trustworthy tour operator. He sent impressive tour details and quoted a very high price. Even then, I fell for the plan and trusted him - BIG MISTAKE. As soon as I took the bait and made the commitment, his communication style changed from excellent to I-do-not-care attitude towards me. All communications were always one sided...initiated by me... never once did I get a call back from Wigi... Usually the vendor calls customer for payment, but in this case, surprisingly, I had to call him 10 times so that he can accept my payment and finalize the bookings. Due to the high price quoted by Wigi, I had to cut bear watching tour from my itinerary to save myself some money, at the end of the planning Wigi increased the quoted price anyways siting hotel unavailability and other reasons. He completed bookings very late in June even when I said YES in March. His strategy was to make me wait for 2 months, so that at the last moment he can increase price and I'll have no option but to say yes to whatever price and hotel changes he offers me. Terrible and shameless way to make money out of your clients! This has been by far the worst experience for me. AlaskaVacationStore works purely on commission basis and doesn't care what their customers wants. Wigi Tozzi is by far the worst tour operator I have ever done business with. He lacks courtesy, formal communication skills, ethics, and flexibility. He made me pick high priced hotels as part of the package and later charged the extra price to me. In our trip, we could not take the Talkeetna Air Taxi due to bad weather and I asked Wigi for refund. After 2 months of numerous frustration filled phone calls and emails, he finally refunded the amount. I work in service industry myself and after coming back from my Alaska vacation, at least 8-10 of my American co-workers, managers and friends made serious enquiries about AlasaVacationStore and I honestly told them - NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH WIGI. 4 months of terrible customer service experience!!
