We visited the ULU factory, the Captain Cook memorial, Earthquake Park, and a beautiful overlook where we saw the Chugach Mountains, Talkeetna Mountains and Denali (in the distance). Prince knew interesting stories and historical facts. We are tour directors here for the season and we learned a lot from him!

He went on and on about the free money Alaskans get from the oil companies every year, and then ranted about how oil companies should do the same thing in the lower 48. it was a waste of $50. We gave him a $5 tip anyway because we felt sorry for him. If you decide to take this tour, find out who the guide will be and where they will take you.

The group all seemed to know each other and the tour guide, so I felt like the odd one out. The training for the Segway was good and I felt I picked it up pretty well. We were doing fine for the first half, speeding down the road, watching seaplanes land, hearing stories of small craft aviation in Alaska. It was actually quite enjoyable and I was having a good time. Until we crossed the road to go over a grassy dip. The guide told us to power through it, but it was like going down the black diamond slope on your first time skiing. I tried to power through but didn't handle it correctly coming up the other side of the dip and ended up falling off hard. I recovered and got back on it, but a little while later, more grass to go over, I overcompensated and fell off. Then, a lip on an incline and I overcompensated and fell off. That's when I was done. My confidence was shot. What they don't tell you about Segways: your feet will hurt, a lot, from the vibrations and you can't exactly keep shifting them. You're at the mercy of the guide stopping to give you a break. Your feet and legs may also go numb after long periods of standing on the vibrating machine. These both make it harder to engage your upper leg and glute muscles to make fine adjustments to your balance. All this combined with unfamiliarity with how to navigate uneven surfaces makes it very hazardous for first-time users. And of course, after three falls, I was in more pain and feeling like a massive embarrassment in front of this group I felt I intruded on. It started as a fun adventure, but far too advanced for someone new. I wish we could have stayed on a flatter path and taken more frequent breaks. As an FYI for new folks: there's no easy way to bail off a Segway if you feel you're going to fall. If you fall, you'll fall hard. It's not like just falling over in snow. Segway Tours were very nice and their tour guide was very knowledgable, but this type of Segway riding may not be for everyone.

I love this little house museum located in downtown Anchorage. A visit at Christmas time is a must…read more-- it's all decorated for Swedish christmas and the tour guides give you not only a tour of the house but some really interesing history on Anchorage back in the day. It has a wonderful view of the inlet and it's located along the coastal trail so you could go for a walk after touring the house. It's definitely worth a stop and look.

The tour is reasonably priced and there was so much to see and do that wasn't part of any of the books or brochures. In addition to seeing great sights, the tour guide, Brittney, was amazing to listen to! She clearly knows so much about the state and shared her knowledge. I was sending questions her way, rapid fire, and she was very enthusiastic to answer all of my wild questions. We loved the tour so much, we immediately booked a different "Escaping Anchorage" tour for the next day. I recommend this tour to anyone looking for a great way to see the area! This was...an experience to say the least…read more 1) The Wilderness, Wildlife, and Glacier tour was insanely overpriced. Get a rental car and do it yourself, you'll save a ton of money. We did the add on glacier cruise, could have booked it cheaper on our own. Again. Just do these things on your own. Trip started in Anchorage, drove us to the wildlife conservation center. We had about an hour there, so basically only time to watch the bears. We never even looked at the other animals just due to lack of time. Then we drove to the Portage Glacier Lodge for lunch that you pay for yourself, on our way we stopped at two spots to take pics, again places you could just stop at. Food was insanely overpriced. Then to the cruise, the cruise itself is an hour long and seeing the glacier is cool, but the ship and crew were the most rinky dink operation I've ever seen. 2) our tour guide locked the keys to the van inside the van. She did not even call to get help until over an hour after discovering the keys were locked inside. We had to wait at the lodge for almost 2 hours before someone came to bring her the spare keys. During this time no one communicated with us regarding a plan and we were just sitting there waiting. Tour guide "Captain C" was nowhere to be found. She then drove us quite erratically back to Anchorage, I presume out of stress. The pics she took aren't great, not like the ones on other reviews and are mostly blurry. 3) Book with a better group. This was a waste of money.

Not only was she very knowledgeable, pleasant, a good driver, but she also treated us all amazing: she remembered all our names, took photos of each of us on our phones with the views in the background, did a little trivia game at the end of the tour, and took wilderness photos on her camera and shared them with us within 2 hours from the end of tour. And they were great! Secondly, the stops were really fun. We spotted a moose mom with her baby in the wild, saw a few bald eagles, some sheep too. We also had a tasty lunch at Portage Glacier Lodge on one of the stops. Thirdly, the rainy weather didn't affect our experience as all because of Grace's non ending good mood & cool headed nature. Even though the glacier cruise at the end got canceled due to awfully strong winds, we did other stops and had fun. Be flexible and have fun! Last year and this year, I stood at the at the Alaskan Parky display positively drooling. I want…read moreone soooooooo bad but they are so expensive. Worth every penny, but 900 dollars is a lotta moolah to come up with. What's nice is they do have some off the rack Parkys, most of what they sell is custom made. You specify your size, fur type and lining and you'll end up with a perfect fitting, cozy piece of Alaskan art. If you've never seen a parky, it's a bit of genius. Most winter parkas are just too darn short and your butt gets cold. Parkys are fab because they are a jacket with cute little skirt attached which 1- looks cute and 2- keeps your tookas toasty. They're adorned with ribbon and fur in just the right places to be both feminine and functional. Ladies, on those cold winter nights you can be warm and still look like a lady- I give you the Parky!
