I purchased a one month pass so I could try out different classes. I'm a novice yoga student and have found this place very warm, welcoming and comfortable for new members. The instructors have a real passion for teaching yoga. I've done over 5 classes, both hot and normal and man does the time fly by. I've already noticed an improvement in my posture and mental well-being. I find this place to be very clean and has very well kept props to use. I highly recommend this place. read more

While I love the standard yoga and smaller recovery stretch classes, I am disappointed they continue to offer less appropriate classes - Kundalini and Bikram - despite the sexual misconduct and abuse allegations of both founders. This is a beautiful studio, very well appointed with a great staff. One of the best classes I've ever attended, and the space itself is really lovely. I was in town for a month and needed to find yoga. I've been practicing for about 10 years so I've come to appreciate a certain level of seasoned teachers that can challenge me. I took class pretty much every day I was there and loved each teacher and their unique styles. This is a top notch studio with excellent teachers. Trust me, I visited a lot of studios. Do not buy a month of unlimited yoga from here. They make you automatically sign up for debit autopay to get a few more bucks out of you on the sly. Before you know it, you are charged for a second month you didn't realize you signed up for. In addition: The partial Yin class I took was a less than satisfying. The instructor literally continuously talked THE ENTIRE 40 mins I was in the class, virtually. Her approach was distracting and didn't allow for the mind to quiet down and focus on the deep stretch a class of that type is supposed to provide. I couldn't even stay online for the whole thing because I just kept lying there, in my mind, going, "When is she going to stop talking and let me relax"? Do not recommend. In today's age of virtual classes, find somewhere that allows for some relaxation as advertised. read more

Horrible business tactics... went in for a trial month to try out a new yoga studio and was told it was not offered anymore after the fact. No mention of a 3 month minimum contract at any point during the process. It was pulling teeth to get my auto-renew cancelled which I was told I could do at any time at sign up. Response I received from Nichole Teeter- the Accounts Specialist: "As I mentioned, we only offer half off of the first month of membership ($79) when you make a commitment of at least 3 months. With the AYC membership specifically, we do not even offer a one month pass for both studios. The only way to gain access to both is either our annual AYC membership or monthly AYC membership. I do see that you have only attended yoga classes using your membership, but had you purchased a one month yoga pass, that cost would have been $178. While I can understand that there may have been some miscommunication regarding the purchase of the membership, we also have our clients read and sign a membership contract to avoid such errors. Please see your signed contract attached below. As I've reviewed your account more, here are the only solutions I can offer at this time: Continue the AYC membership for the duration of the minimum commitment and terminate your contract effective 10/12/20. You will have 2 more payments due on 8/13 ($158) and 9/13 ($158). You will have continued unlimited access to yoga cycle classes through 10/11/20. This is the MOST AMAZING yoga studio that I have ever had the good fortune to visit. Thanks to instructor, Nicole, and Director, Katey, for managing such a tremendous and beautiful studio. This studio is hands down, the cleanest, most spacious and most welcoming of any studio that I have ever visited. I Loved the complementary water refill stations, packets of Emergen-C, bath and hand towels. I wish that I could transport this studio to Santa Monica, so that I could enjoy! I came here having just completed a half-marathon the day before. The 90-minute hot yoga session (26 x 2) absolutely helped rid my body of all of the soreness. Nicole was an incredible and supportive instructor. She has an exquisite demeanor and is very patient and personable. My friend and I went to a yoga class here the other day. The class itself was amazing, but our experience with the woman working the front desk was not. She looked at my friend during check in and asked her if she had ever done yoga before. I found this question to be inappropriate. We were not asking her for any advice, just checking in and minding our business. My friend responded explaining that yes she has done yoga before. To which the receptionist said "Good because this is not a beginner class". It came across as demeaning and made my friend nervous when she was excited moments before. The class ended up being pretty chill and nothing that a "beginner" couldn't handle. After the class was over I wanted to look at some of the items for sale. The same receptionist then told me that I was not allowed to walk in the retail section with shoes on. I had done so before many times and no one ever told me otherwise. But that was not the issue, the issue was her tone and the way she made what should have been a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere into one that was not very inviting. My friend and I will most likely not be coming back due to this experience. read more

this is one of my favorite studios EVER ! i've been practicing yoga all over the country/world for 6+ years and this studio is remarkable. there's a great variety of classes offered at the right times. the vibe is a perfect blend of down-to-earth, body-focused, modern, and not over-the-top woo woo/spiritual, just the right amount of everything. the teachers are great, the staff is friendly, and the studio and bathrooms are always very clean. i also love that they don't keep the room SO DANG HOT. it's a nice 102-103 degrees at most, which is perfect for me since my blood pressure is a little low - i'm able to practice without getting too lightheaded. i got a membership and i've been going almost every day. thanks AYC! read more

This place is a total waste of time and money for advanced practitioners. I've practiced yoga daily for the past 7 years-- I mainly practice jivamukti, with a mix of vinyasa and ashtanga. I would characterize my practice as intermediate-advanced. I'm mostly familiar with the NYC and DC yoga scene. I'm in Anchorage for a year and have yet to find a decent studio--I've been practicing daily at home, but found myself really missing the community feel of a studio. I was also worried that I would be rusty once I'm back in my Manhattan home studio. So I set out to try the studios in Anchorage. I left this one for last because I've noticed that the people most obnoxious about the fact that they "practice yoga" are members here-- a sure sign that a studio has no grounding in yogic philosophy. That said, I went into my 30-day trial with an open mind. Long story short, today was the last day of my trial, and I didn't even bother to go in. Three major issues with this place: 1. As one of the other reviewers said, this place is more hot than yoga. Like most hot yoga studios, they use the heat to trick people into thinking that they are more flexible than they are. They also use it to make people think that the class was more rigorous than it actually was. There is absolutely no need for heat when you have a good teacher and an intense practice. I've sweat more in unheated jivamukti classes in NYC than I did here, in a 95-degree room. 2. The asanas are extremely limited. Their most "advanced" class, Power Om, would be an upper-beginner class at best in the NYC scene. The other classes are entirely designed for those brand new to yoga. And even in terms of introductory asanas, the ones they teach are extremely limited. I attended nearly 20 classes and not once did any teacher cue for malasana (so you can forget about bakasana entirely). Even worse, when I moved into advanced variations, some teachers actually got offended and told me not to do it. So much for the idea that each person's practice is his/her own. During the weeks where I forced myself to go in more often, this place actually stunted my practice. I had to come back home and practice for an additional 2 hours just to keep pushing myself forward. 3. The teachers lack a fundamental understanding of yoga philosophy. The classes are entirely devoid of any type of spirituality. The most spiritual element here is the muttering of a namaste at the end of class. Worse, the longest savasana here spanned a meager 1 minutes. Most savasanas last 30 seconds. It seems like they cue for it just to go through the motions. The kundalini teacher here is the closest they come to an actual yoga teacher (but that class, again, incorporated very limited asanas)-- she actually seems to understand that yoga is actually designed for meditation, unlike everyone else at this place. This studio is the quintessence of American bastardization of yoga. If you are a white woman brand new to yoga, and if you are mostly interested in wearing Lululemon, doing some easy stretches, and telling people you "practice yoga," you will love this place. Advanced yoginis need not apply. read more

Sick slick, wouldn't you say? As in these people have clearly cut a mold from the popular athletic-club style gymnastics that has little to do with the sacred yoke. I have alluded previously that I do not support hot yoga. My experience at Anchorage Yoga was that they were offering more hot than yoga and that's not only a drag, but it's dangerously irresponsible. No one has ever recommended practicing cardio in a sauna. Not to mention $17 a class - holy hell, who do you think you are? That said, the class was packed; this gym is popular, and yoga bootie cuties do what they want... hot yoga is hot. When moving up to Anchorage I searched for a Bikram yoga studio, and all I found was this. For over a year I debated on whether or not to spend money on a studio that didn't only teach my precious Bikram I loved so much. I think at max they have seven classes of Bik a week. I was devastated. Eventually, after spending hours looking in the mirror miserable, I figured I'd give it a shot. I AM HOOKED. Bikram is still challenging, but a little boring to me after learning about hot flow fusion. I walk in, searching for the girl who sounds exactly like Drew Barrymore, excited to see Katey. During her classes I'm pretty sure she's the devil, but after I leave I feel so much better about life. Suddenly, I'm happy with life. I feel calm and rested and relaxed and energized... and I'm typing this after one of her classes, I think I'm still hyped up from her class! Today I actually walked out with fingers that were so wrinkley it looked like I had soaked in a bathtub... and I kinda felt like I had swimmer's ear. If you suffer from depression, anxiety, sleeping problems, weight problems (all four of them I do) then don't walk, run to this studio and ask when Katey is teaching... then be prepared to get WORKED. Visit their website and LISTEN to their instructions about being properly hydrated and not eating a few hours before class... but do it. And if you're a guy reading this and think yoga is for sissy's... I double dog dare you to spend ninety minutes in this class. And there are plenty of guys in the class, so you wont feel alone, promise. Stop reading this and go sign up. read more

This my first time in a yoga studio. I attended the 8am Bikram class with Melanie. They greet you as you enter and are so kind. I was introduced to the instructor since they saw that I was new. A mat is provided for you your first time if you don't have one. The class was amazing. I loved that she knew a lot of the class members' names and she even remembered the few first timers that were in the class. Melanie gives out endless reminders and pointers through the class so it almost feels like it's a personal session. I also used the ladies room to shower. It was very clean and provided blow dryers, curling irons, a few tampons, and there is Dove shampoo and conditioner and body wash in all the showers. I even enjoyed their selection of music. I've heard others say that $18 for a drop-in price is steep but others have said that it's because it's a higher end studio. There's another one that has a $10 drop in and I'll try them before deciding on that. I say give them a try and see for yourself. read more

I visited this studio three times during my one-week work trip. The studio, facilities, store, and lobby area are very beautiful. I enjoyed every class, but I especially loved my 75-minute Flow 2 class with Katey I. In my 10+ years of yoga, she stands out as a top instructor, probably the best I've had. Her instructions were very clear and easy to listen to, and where she sprinkled in spirituality were well timed and were poetically said. Her routine was wonderful in every way - several times in the class, I wanted to scream out loud "YES!" because the asana was so delicious and felt so good - she described the flow as a dance, and I really felt that - artistically, powerfully, and spiritually. It's irritating to see that most bad reviews are from people who only have one review out there. That usually just tells me they have a grudge against the particular establishment. As far as AY is concerned, I've been going there for over a year & have never encountered a dirty situation. I see one of the cleaning ladies all the time, the bathrooms are immaculate, the showers are clean, & the instructors always wipe down the rooms after class. Needless to say, the place is clean. I can't say much about the cancellation policy because I haven't been in that situation. I attended a karma ($7 instead of $17) Hot Flow class taught by Heidi who is a new teacher. This was my first time. Everyone was so welcoming, and the class wasn't full since it was a Friday night. It was better than I expected. You really do get a good workout from it. Prepare to sweat a bunch. Don't be ashamed. Bring extra towels, and a big bottle of water; don't forget one like I did. My body, mind, and spirit felt cleansed afterwards. Will definitely try this again. read more
