Love this place and the teachers. Great facility and happy energetic staff that really compliment my ever growing practice and have teachers that really care about the students. There are lots of classes to choose from, and every teacher has their own quirky style. Very clean, gorgeous studio. If you go here, park in the correct spaces! It is your responsibility to be a good customer. Overall, I enjoy practicing here. However, there are two pretty big cons for me that make it so I can't give five stars. 1.) They have heated classes and non-heated. They give most of the attention to the heated classes. If you go to a non-heated class, be prepared to accidentally go to a heated class. They don't air out the rooms enough or have any type of air circulation to keep things nicely warm instead of hot. I intentionally go to non-heated classes, and am constantly frustrated that I am in 80+ degree rooms. 2.) They over-pack the classrooms, the smaller classroom especially. The smaller classroom should only hold 24 people and the instructor. Instead, they try to cram 30 people in there. The over-packing of people also generates more heat, which goes along with the first problem I mentioned. Despite these two problems, Anchorage yoga is a really great place. The people are friendly and kind, and the instructors aren't intimidating. And everything is CLEAN. If you don't mind hot (not warm, but hot) classes when you don't plan for it, and you have no issue with personal place infringement, go to Anchorage Yoga. I have been going to AYC for a few years and have had uniformly good experiences. Teachers are knowledgeable and empathetic.

I was recommended Anchorage Yoga by my Massage Therapist. I had never tried yoga before but I knew it sounded like something I would be interested in: A blend of mind, body and spirit. I am all about hitting as many birds as possible! To my surprise it was even better than expected. The health benefits are amazing, and the workout is a good one - and there are so many variations to keep you interested - after a couple years I am now working on intermediate to advanced! This yoga studio makes me so happy I don't even want to try another one because I'm almost positive I won't be as happy: I love how clean it is, I have never been concerned about that here. The Ambiance is relaxing and comforting. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and inspiring. I love the vibe inside the studio, not to mention it sells Lulu Lemon workout clothes! (--Only place I know of in AK that does.) It is very rare that I will not try out other things my first time around. The only drawback I can think of is how crowded it can get - make sure to get there at least 5-10 minutes early, I know I'm usually late for things and it can be hard to find the spot you want. If it's your first time in hot yoga, be prepared to sweat & wear clothing that when it gets wet, you won't be embarassed, such as pants that are dark with a shiny material like spandex that will blend the sweat, or something loose fitting. Even if you do sweat in unflattering places it's not the end of the world, it's no secret that everyone else there is sweating in the same places. Overall an A+ Studio, I could only hope that other studios are like this one. read more

I attended a few classes this summer. I was worried because my friend said that classes can get super packed, but I guess summer is the low season. None of the classes i attended were full. The classes were great, the teachers very knowledgable, and the staff nice and helpful. The website is great. And when I pre-registered for a class and woke up with stomach flu, the owner was nice enough not to charge me even though I didn't cancel with 24 hour notice. She told me that since I was new, they wouldn't charge me and sent me the cancellation policy for future reference. One bummer was that I bought a skirt but it didn't fit. They told me they couldn't refund my credit card, only my Anchorage Yoga account. Since I don't lived in Anchorage and do not plan in returning anytime soon, that meant I was out $58! All that being said, I didn't give it 5 stars for the pure fact that I believe hot yoga is dangerous. In fact, I hurt my shoulder by pushing my body too hard. It's my own fault for not 'listening to my own body' but as a warning, hot yoga gives your body a false sense of flexibility and you can easily over do it. read more

Anchorage Yoga is more like a gym than a yoga studio. It is almost void of any spiritual practices and growth. I practiced almost every day for two months and not a single instructor remembered my name. Although Anchorage Yoga is very clean and set up with ample amenities, the environment felt very sterile and unwelcoming. I was in a car accident on my way to a yoga practice, injuring my shoulder, collar bone, and 1st rib. The staff at Anchorage Yoga were rude when trying to suspend my membership, argued about my condition very unsympathetically, and charged me fees when I eventually cancelled.I feel like Anchorage Yoga is just a very hot gym. If that is what you are looking for, Anchorage Yoga is the place. However, if you want spiritual growth and are more focused on the long term instead of instant gratification....Anchorage Yoga is not the place. read more

The teachers here are wonderful, teaching a diverse array of classes for all levels. Everyone is very kind and welcoming. Pissed that they changed their "late cancel policy" if you don't book a week ahead of time then you can't get into the classes but then if something comes up you must cancel 2 hours before hand which is fine. They used to charge you 10$ if you had a late cancel, AND the class was full. Now the policy is they charge you 10$ no matter what. I'm sorry, what? I got it when it was based on the class being full, you are taking away from money they could have made if some one else would've been able to go. But on top of my 100$ membership I am getting charged for a class that isn't full. Money hungry is what I call that. Anchorage Yoga has become the big box store of yoga studios and yet they charge the same that studios that give you smaller classes and more attention do. Definitely switching to Dharma next month, a yoga membership shouldn't add stress to your life. read more

Of course naturally I like some teachers (& classes) better than others, but it depends on what you are looking for (someone to push you vs someone to support you). I've been practicing yoga for over ten years and I'm happy with Anchorage yoga. I get challenged, although I prefer a variety and new asanas every class, and find some practitioners get stuck doing the same set of asanas. I've been coming to AY since they opened about 5 years ago. Every yoga studio is different, in fact, every teacher is different. As a lifelong Alaskan, yet well traveled and educated, Anchorage needs and wants AY. Their schedule begins at 6am and their last class typically BEGINS at 8:45pm with classes going on all day long. For Alaska weather, it is a pleasure to walk into a hot room. For those that have reviewed poorly on heat or cleanliness, the heat helps my body warm up from this cold climate and there's a lady I see almost daily cleaning the place. I feel Shavasana should be longer as I feel it's the most important time we can enter into meditation if guided correctly and come out blissful. All in all, I love this place because it gets people in and gets us sweating, it's not for granola yogis that like to judge. I'm one that adores the calm of life and meditation but I also love AY with their hot rooms, energy, and classes. I recommend trying AY. read more

I'm not into bikram but the align and refine is the best yoga I've done since I was 15. Anne is very informative and helpful especially when you have a particular need or injury. I pulled a muscle and I hadn't been able to do a downward dog again untill her class. She always makes me feel important and I leave feeling like I actually learned something. In a town where a most yoga leaves a lot to be desired anchorage yoga delivers! I bought a pass making classes only 13$!! Love it! Thanks Anne for being so awesome! read more

Looking for a studio with the worse possible customer service?- then this is the place for you! I'll split this review into two parts- First, the instructors are great- Melissa, Rick,Patrick, Allison and David- I really enjoyed their classes. Melissa encourages you to push yourself and I appreciated that. Now the second part- I don't like to give bad reviews, but I also didn't like how a situation was handled here. After a late Bikram class, I had changed and left my yucky workout clothes in a bag in the locker room, honest mistake. I called as soon as I got home and spoke to Kristin, how told me it would be fine to come in the next day to grab them. Around noon the next day I stop in and Nicole said yes, they were in the back. She returned with my top, but my $80 pants were nowhere to be found. Nicole called Kristin, who said that she had put both in to the washer and dryer together. This really bothered me, as these weren't cheap. Nicole gives me the managers name, I call later in the day and leave a message. Amanda, the manager called the next day, says she's asked around, doesn't know what else to do. I inform her that I would like the pants replaced- I was told they were both there together, a replacement is fair. She gets back to be a couple days later, and nope, nothing else she can do, they have never had a situation like this before, and any expensive gear they make sure to leave behind the front desk. Yet, another girl working with Nicole the day I came to get my clothes tells me after a class, she had left an expensive top behind the desk only to come in a few days later and it was gone. Huh. Amanda goes on to tell me that Kristin must have misspoken, those obviously weren't my clothes, ect. I had two weeks left on my yoga pass, and I told Amanda I felt very uncomfortable returning, after the theft and her way of handling this situation. She replies back with a curt "sorry you feel that way." Yes, I am sorry- sorry that I no longer have a place to practice Bikram, sorry I was screwed out of my remaining yoga pass,sorry that I took the staff at their word, and sorry someone was that spiteful to steal something that wasn't theirs. Very upsetting and strange situation, with the conflicting stories I received from the staff here at Anchorage Yoga. Update: The day after I posted this review, one of the staff members, Rachel, called me. She apologized for the frustration I felt with the situation and assured me should my leggings show up she would let me know immediately. She also offered a free week of classes, which I did decline, but appreciated her reaching out. **NEW** (1/20/16) I received a very nice email from one of the owners, Joshua Love. He had been out of town and when he return he became aware of this situation and offered not only to replace my pants but five free classes as well. I was very impressed and pleaded with the way this was handled, thank you so much! read more

I had a really bad experience with this studio and would not recommend that people go to it. I became really wiped out from their hot flow classes and after my hair started falling out, my acupuncturist told me it was not a good idea for me to attend their classes anymore, especially for my constitution. I discussed this with the owner and the owner told me to "get back on the mat" stop whining, and that my symptoms were simply my body "detoxing." Really horrible advice and bad business overall. I do not recommend this studio, as they bank on the western fitness model of yoga, culturally appropriating the practice. read more

This is the best yoga studio that I have ever been to. I have tried yoga studios in many other states and countries...nothing compares to this one. The facilities are so clean. The teachers are amazing-patient, kind, funny, always remember my name, respectful of injuries and health conditions, I could go on and on... Through routine practice, I have been able to quit smoking, gained more flexibility and strength in my knee after surgery, dramatic improvement in tendinitis of my hand, a 100% improvement in any and all back pain, no more headaches, no more muscle cramps in the night, and a host of emotional well being that I cannot put into words. First off, let me caveat this posting by saying I've personally never set paw in AY, but my Pops went 2-5 times a week, so much so that Ma claimed she was becoming a yoga widow. Here's what Pops told me about it. He absolutely loved AY, but he may have been biased because this was the first studio he ever practiced at. One day after choking down some sub par NYC street pigeon wings at Wings and Things, he decided to stop into AY and grab a schedule a price list. He went the next week after doing some online research about yoga studios in Anchorage. Initially, he intended to try a couple of the Anchorage studios to find which one he liked, but after doing a one month unlimited package at AY, there was no where else he wanted to try. He told me today he didn't realize how good AY really was until we drove from Alaska through Canada to Florida then up to Virgina practicing at numerous studios along the way. AY and its staff are really some of the best in North America! I sat down with Pops for this Yelp review and here's what he purred about: 1) Instructors are knowledgeable, friendly, approachable, and fun - each in their own unique way. The front counter staff is always friendly and helpful. 2) Studio ambiance - always clean throughout with nice bathrooms and showers. 3) Fellow yogis - easy to strike up a conversation about your favorite kitty litter before/after class with your mat neighbor. 4) Price (there was almost always a monthly special, so it usually worked out to $100/mo unlimited) 5) # of classes per week and the diversity of classes - convenient class times and they have everything from beginners yoga to deep stretch to Bikram to vinyasa. It's like the Baskin Robbins of Yoga! 6) the website - professional, up-to-date, contains all the info you need and you can sign up for class online. After looking for classes in the nearby vicinity on the drive across the continent, you don't realize what a simple, but nice feature this is! 7) Special events / Workshops - the guest instructors / workshops were interesting and good at exposing you to something "different." They bring in people from the lower 48 to get your "om" on with big salad bowls or find a way to combine beer and yoga. Here's a few other tips: The 0930 and 1000 classes on Saturday and Sunday are going to be packed, so get there 15-20 minutes early. This may be intimidating to new people, just go with it. There is a distinguishable, different energy a packed class generates versus a half filled class. Enjoy it! These classes seem to blend fitness and yoga practice nicely, if you are more yoga practice than fitness, well, you may not like it. For the hot classes, start hydrating (not with beer) the day before. So, what are the cons? Well, there's only one AY! read more

When I first walked in I felt very nervous and uncomfortable because I've never done anything like this before, but as soon as I walked in everyone made me feel very welcome and all the teachers explained everything perfectly. Anchorage Yoga and Cycle has such fantastic facilities and instructors that you will be inspired and motivated.

I like that with zero yoga experience I was able to walk in and feel like I was welcome and never once felt out of place or awkward.

I loved the studio space and ample amenities - from the Emergen-C to free towels and mats for first time students - to the bath products. Class was a great mixture of challenging poses, contagious energy, and meditation. I only wish I was in Anchorage permanently to enjoy the studio again. read more

I have now been attending AY for a year and joined their cycle studio as well. Since then I have noticed a lot more interaction with staff and customers in a positive way. It also appears there has been a change in front desk management. Whatever it is, the hype is positive, friendly, clean, modern, and it's still my favorite place to practice hot yoga. Some of the classes are fuller and you won't receive as much attention or adjustments (if that's what you like) verses the smaller classes. They still do a lot of teacher trainings and travel outside AK for further knowledge. I haven't been to any of the newer instructors, I just stick to my favorite teachers. And I believe that's the moral, just stick to what you like, persevere, and your face will become a familiar and likable one. read more

I've been beyond frustrated with Anchorage Yoga and Cycle. Overall, the facilities are great (if annoyingly crowded), and the classes and instructors are fantastic. Maybe that's the problem. I first went to yoga classes here a few years ago and was impressed, but they've grown super fast and their policies, pricing, and customer service just hasn't kept up to standard. Classes are often booked so you have to be "waitlisted" and only after a month of figuring out the system do you realize how to actually get in to desired classes, while also maintaining flexibility. Yoga and cycling are supposed to be positive parts of my life, but Anchorage Yoga has had some serious growing pains that are being passed on to clients. I'd recommend passing and going to another studio until they can get their act together. Just not worth it. read more

UNBELIEVABLE. I visited AK and paid for a few yoga classes in advance since their website encourages reservations. I looked all over their website for any cancellation policy, and the only thing I saw was that their retreats had a 7-day cancellation policy. Travel plans changed and I had to cancel a couple of the classes a few days in advance. I was never told at any point that I would not get a refund. Of course, I came back home and after following up a month later was told that oh by the way those reservations were nonrefundable. What horrific customer service and, not to mention, bad karma. read more

Like so many others, I wanted to like this place, and even did like it for a little while. I do like hot yoga; I like the way it loosens me up and I like sweating, too! However, as a previous person mentions they will pack the class until you cannot even do the poses without changing them in order not to knock the person next to you, or knocking the person next to you. This is my main complaint about this place. It's definitely more about business than yoga here. A couple of the instructors will also talk down to the class as though we are in third grade. Overall, again, I wanted to like this place but after being irritated one too many times I am over it! read more

Studio was dirty and smelly. They only have two showers and a teeny locker room which got crazy crowded.

The studio isnt cleaned properly, the bathrooms are very dirty. The cancellation policy on your subscription is highly inconvenient and illogical. I would go to another yoga studio if I were you. read more

This is about Josh Love. I have been practicing yoga for over 20 years and am a doctor. I have never encountered an instructor who needs to shame people in order to control their practice. After he belittled a teenage boy for leaving to use the bathroom, and another woman for speaking to her neighbor, he told me I was not using "appropriate yoga etiquette" because I refused to position my foot in tree pose over my hip due to my hip replacements and fear of dislocation. He didn't start the class asking about anyone's injuries, or medical issues because he didn't care. The vibe of the class was one of fear, dictatorship, and humiliation. In yoga we are taught to be present and mindful of our bodies. To have an instructor who shames and tries to force my body to do something that feels wrong or harmful is NOT YOGA. Josh was negative, harsh, shaming, and disrespectful, which says more about how he feels about himself, and what he is trying to project onto others. This man obviously does not love his life or himself, if his desire to control others superceeds his ability to teach yoga in a safe, disciplined, respectful manner. read more

I had never been to a yoga class before in my life and a friend suggested I accompany her to the hot flow yoga. I walked in semi-prepared with my yoga mat and apparel I thought would be conducive enough for me to sweat profusely for the next 90 minutes. I absolutely LOVED this class. It was so amazing. I had done some yoga before from instructional DVDs so I knew some of the lingo. The instructor had such a calming voice and she kept everything moving smoothly. I appreciated the fact that she walked around and corrected my form if I wasn't in a position properly- added bonus to learn poses the correct way. I walked out of that class feeling so refreshed and relaxed, all my stress was left in a pool of sweat on my mat! Very therapeutic to my mind and body, I was drenched by the end of the class. I paid 30$ for 3 sessions, good pricing it seemed since one session cost 17$. I can't wait to go back for another session. read more
