Tonight was the monthly art walk night in Carefree. Artists were also setting up for the Carefree Art and Wine show this weekend. That made parking a little more difficult. Nevertheless, we found a parking space. We visited with Tony and Pat and had a nice conversation with them. They feel like old friends to us. Tony had some new work to look at. Both of them say they're getting a little more attention now which is good. Shared parking spaces and Wi-Fi in the area. read more

Meet Ancient Walls, a new and unique gallery in Carefree, AZ. Our Artist has been creating for about 20 years, driven by a passion for rocks, history, and nature. All materials are sourced from canyons across Arizona, though none come from sacred lands. Many artworks are inspired by ancient ruins, reflecting a deep connection to historical contexts. The process is highly scientific and extremely innovative, utilizing static electricity to manipulate the rock being milled. This technique allows the creation of a variety of textures, from glass-like smoothness to the roughness of lava rock. A distinctive aspect of our gallery is our encouragement for visitors to touch our art, unlike most galleries. We believe that using your hands is essential to fully appreciate the texture and feel of our creations. Located in the Courtyard shops next to Venues Cafe, Ancient Walls offers a multi-dimensional art experience, blending natural beauty with creative ingenuity. A few months ago we had them return to build a stone water feature/waterfall adjacent to our pool. The job went quite smoothly, but required some mortar work between some natural stones, and unfortunately the subcontractor used a dark-brown colored compound that did not blend with the lighter-colored stones, creating sort of a zebra-like appearance. We notified the boss, John, who jumped immediately to correct the problem. That required several re-visits to get it right, and John was more diligent and demanding of his subs than even we were, with a really attractive and functional end result. We'd recommend John/Architectural Stone in a minute to anyone needing anything done well & creatively in the masonry category.

They did an extensive front area remodel --4100 square feet of pavers for a circular drive, re-designed the front hill by removing 20 tons of dirt and old plants, added a river bed, replaced all the granite, installed new lighting and watering system, added new plants, built stone accent walls and the list goes on. Once you give Sean a deposit and you agree on the work, he gives you a firm start and end date. Taking into account weather delays, the schedule is right on target. Our project encountered one entire week of rain but the crew worked through it (6 days a week, 7-5) and finished the project within only a few extra days from the original end date. The crew was timely, professional, pleasant and easy to deal with. If we ever had questions or needed to reach Sean, we received a return call, text or email within minutes. Having lived in Arizona for almost 50 years and dealing with many contractors, we can honestly say that Sean and Envirogreen Landscaping are the only contractors that we do not have one complaint to express. I interviewed several companies for our complete backyard remodel, and it was apparent from the beginning that Sean was the best. He came up with a creative design for our backyard that provided more privacy; an entertainment space with a bar, tv, fire pit; and an outdoor kitchen. He asks questions to understand what your needs are and how you envision yourself using your yard to come up with a 3-D rendering of your ideal space. Sean has an eye for design and thinks of the big picture and the small details. We had to wait several months for the crew to start, but in my mind that was a good sign that Envirogreen was well sought after. They were worth the wait! Envirogreen has their own crews, instead of a bunch of subcontractors. Their crew, led by Abraham, was punctual, reliable, and hardworking. They showed up 5-6 days a week and worked long days until our project was complete. This kind of work ethic and reliability is so rare these days. Sean communicated with us throughout the entire process and his insights allowed us to make some decisions to improve the original plan as needed (i.e.- installed one bigger propane tank to serve our smoker, grill, fire pit, and indoor stove instead of added another smaller one). Envirogreen does good quality work, and we are very happy with the results! When we are ready to have work done on our front yard, we will be calling Envirogreen again!

Hard to hear, but after seeing what he fixed the past 3 months and more pvc would burst as we fixed cracked spots i started making calls. I had 5 companies i reached out to. got 2 bids one day, then Sal was the 3rd on next day , with 2 more after him who both never showed. Sal wasnt the cheapest, nor the most expensive. What won was 1) he is licensed. So many landscapers are not. That is worth the job, quality, piece of mind. 2) I brought up high water pressure issues with our area/house to not only our regular guy , but the 1st to bidders who both said, its not water pressure, its your guy not knowing how to use or fix pvc properly (but my main guy has been w/us for 15 years+ and has done break fix over the years, no issues) Sal came and in immediately agreed its pvc/pressure. We hired Sal after the other 2 no showed. He initially said 5-10 days but was done in 2.5. His crew started at 7 and was done at noon. Fantastic work. He even redid my control box after the bid/estimate (no charge) and pointed out how to run everything, he labeled all our valves /zones. Incredible work in the hottest days we have had in Phoenix. We already have another much smaller job getting a quote. All his work is warrantied!!

I found Hall of Frames online and purchased two framed newspaper articles. The price point was steeper than I expected, but after seeing the finished product, it was definitely worthwhile. As I mentioned, the newspapers were not exactly hot off the presses when I sent them for framing, and they were starting to wear a bit. Hall of Frames preserved them beautifully. The newspapers are completely flat and wrinkle free in the frames within minimal sign of the slight color degradation they had experienced prior to framing. The newspapers look absolutely beautiful. Hall of Frames finished the service quickly and shipping was super fast. The frames were packaged incredibly well and arrived in perfect condition. Robert was also very helpful and communicative. The Hall of Frames team is clearly very skilled at their craft, and I highly recommend!

While it is still under some construction it was still a great site to see. I originally walked over to get a better look at the beautiful metal art display of a tree. Once closer it is so much more with intricate details using items like a water canister and such. I walked over at the perfect time to even capture a bird enjoying its "branches". The City of Surprise follows suit with Glendale, Chandler and Tempe among others to promote responsible and sustainable water use. Once complete this location will function as a host to events with a built in amphitheater while also helping to teach appropriate landscape maintenance and water practices with both tours and self guided materials.
