When he arrived, he really took the time to listen to our concerns and even asked to see some photos to get a better idea of what we were dealing with. After taking a look, he explained that the issue was actually outside the scope of what he usually inspects. But instead of just walking away, he stuck around, explained everything clearly, and gave us some super helpful advice. You can tell John really knows his stuff. He was professional, honest, and didn't try to sell us on anything unnecessary. In fact, he insisted on not charging us, saying he likes to "sleep peacefully at night." That says a lot about his character. He even sent us detailed suggestions on how to handle the problem--what kind of work would be needed, the materials to use, and even what kind of handyman to look for. He also gave us a few referrals to get started. Despite having completed our home inspection many months ago, as we settled into our home, we realized small things here and there that we didn't notice earlier. Every time we encountered something new, we thought any one of these questions - What can be causing this? How did this happen? How can we fix this? Will this cost much? Is this a small or big problem? The bottom line was where do we go from there?! ... JOHN to the rescue! Every time we had a question, not often, but the few times we did, we took John up on his generous offer of reaching out to him and, NOT ONCE, did John fail to respond within 1 day! Not only has John been extremely cordial and professional with every communication we had with him, but he takes the time to write out detailed, technical and specific instructions on how we could resolve our home issues. I went through the whole process of having them remove it just to be told they couldn't because it wasn't an actual oil tank which was fine but the representative I spoke to was kind of rude about the whole situation, she cut me off multiple times as I was speaking, she spoke to me as if I was a child and a bit unprofessional. We had the misfortune of employing him for removal of an oil tank during the sale of our house recently, after we had moved to a different state. The tank was removed and the next day the city inspector passed it for no further action. To our utter surprise, Teddy Slack turned against us and was threatening to report oil contamination to NJDEP and told us that he took soil sample (which we never approved nor requested) that showed soil contamination. We contacted NJDEP and were horrified to discover that Teddy Slack has quite a reputation there! They told us he was not even authorized to collect soil samples. He was running a shady company called Qualified Tank Services that he had shut down. It had a "F" rating in BBB. Google 'BBB and Teddy Slack' and you will see ratings for Qualified Tank Services. https://www.bbb.org/us/nj/lebanon/profile/oil-tank-removal/qualified-tank-services-0221-90078424 So we employed a different oil tank company to get a "No Further Action Report" from NJDEP. We asked Teddy Slack Jr. for these documents (1) local permit for tank removal (2) Tank content and the tank disposal documents. He ignored our repeated requests even after we paid the agreed amount for the tank removal. This delayed our house closing by more than a month and cost us 1000s of dollars. Our advice please avoid this very shady operator!

He showed up as scheduled and without wasting any time, he went straight to work. He used this handheld machine and tested different random painted areas. There was no need for me to follow him around and I just went on to do some work while waiting. He finished after about two hours plus. There was no moving of furniture needed on my part, or at least he did not ask me to. It was done just about the length of time he had advised me of. I received the paperwork and the report afterward via email. It was very detail and exactly what I needed. He was easy to work with. I found him to be both knowledgeable, thorough and professional. His fee seemed reasonable which was of similar rate as other contractors I had talked to before. I would certainly recommend him for the lead paint inspection. And I will be comfortable hiring him if I need an home inspection in the future since he also provides such service.
