After an unfortunate tailoring error, I came to the shop with an uneven hem and only 3 weeks out my wedding. All my worries and stresses were erased and I am happy to say my dress is gorgeous and fixed. We should have came here in the first place and I regret not picking And Something Blue. I was even given an extremely fair price for immediate help and appointments that fit my schedule. Every bridal shop I called in SF recommended me to come to And Something Blue for alterations, and I completely understand why. When I came to ASB I brought the insane challenge that was getting my dress down 4 sizes as I had lost a lot of weight. My dress was quite intricate in terms of structure so this was so small feat. The team at ASB went above and beyond to make sure the dress fit perfectly and still looked like my dress. I also ended up getting a custom veil and went through several rounds of alterations while they made sure to perfect the final result. Also, while I was there I regretted not coming there for my actual wedding dress as they all looked so so pretty. I highly recommend coming here if you are a bride!! read more

I have been a stylist is SF for over 20 years and have never been this shocked with the negative and degrading costumer service at this bridal salon. My client's experience went from sheer excitement about the perfect dress to being demeaned about her needs with the fit of dress and saying they can't work with her needs in alterations. I went to two fittings and both were so frustrating. They question her needs on the fit. She had lost weight and the associate actually commented on weight gain and lack of ability to make the dress fit in an acceptable way. The person in the dress g room next to us was having the same expedience. It was so surreal. This is about finding "your dress." Do not visit this store. I am shocked with the reviews. Very attentive appointment. When I arrived they helped me to pick out a few dresses to start and based on my reactions helped me to narrow down and pulled several other options. There were a few other brides in the shop at the same time either to try on or for alterations but we each had different areas and at least for me this was not an issue. When there were customizable options she made sure to show me examples in other gowns in store if not on the one I considered. I was really pleased with my experience here and would recommend it to anyone looking for wedding dresses in the area. Helen was great and attentive, but ultimately, I wasn't thrilled with the dress. I mostly felt pretty self-conscious. Obviously, a wedding isn't about a dress, but I didn't care for how it looked or made me feel while wearing it. I also received the final product 2 days before my wedding which left no room for additional alterations/tweaks or an alternate dress option. It was a very hectic process, particularly the week of my wedding. If the dress you're going with needs minor alterations, then I'm sure it would be totally fine! However, I was making some significant changes to my dress and I wouldn't recommend. I clarified before purchasing my dress that very specific alterations (complete with reference photos) could be done and what the cost of those alterations and timing would be. I basically wanted to raise the neckline and make it more scoop neck as opposed to a deeper sweetheart and add straps. I was assured that it was all very doable and would be able to be completed well in advance of my wedding. I even got my measurements taken and again assured it was all good. However, at my first fitting, it was still the original dress, and I was then told by the in-house tailor that "it wasn't possible" to alter the bodice like we had discussed. She also quoted me double what I was originally quoted for the alterations. I was pretty crushed since I specifically chose this dress/shop because of their assurances that the dress could be altered how I wanted. I explained my self-consciousness in the dress "as is" with the neckline and while they tried to be encouraging, I didn't want to feel self-conscious or uncomfortable on my wedding day! After forwarding them the email where we discussed the alterations and cost, the tailor did do it. She made a new bodice to the dress, but it definitely felt like she didn't want to. It seemed like a rushed job that didn't take into account my actual measurements. The fabric across my chest was wrinkled in a way that could not be steamed out - it was just because it was made that way. I expressed my concern and was first told it just was the overlaying fabric of the dress (it wasn't) and then that my body heat would smooth it out on the day (it did not!) The straps also didn't fit properly, and the dress didn't sit on my natural waist (what's the point of measuring?) so it was a bit uncomfortable/constricting all day. The alterations also took a long time and the week of my wedding I had to go back to the store 3-4x and it was still not right but there was no time left to tweak it. Again, a wedding isn't about a dress and ultimately it doesn't matter. But I am disappointed that in all my photos, the first thing I see is the messy bodice and ill-fitting straps. And I was generally just uncomfortable and didn't feel my most beautiful on my wedding day. It's not a dress I'm excited to keep or look at again. I also had to really advocate and fight for the alterations that we had discussed. I wish they would have told me that the alterations were not possible or wouldn't allow for a high level of execution, instead of promising something they couldn't deliver. I should have gone with the other studio and dress I was considering, even though it was nearly $2k more. They also altered my mom's wedding dress for me to wear at the rehearsal and welcome party. The tailor did do a pretty good job on that, even though it was way too big at the chest for me. Again, several comments about my concerns, but nothing done beyond adding some pads. I also felt like she quoted me pretty high for that job which makes me wonder if it was to "make up" for the other alteration. Helen was super nice, attentive and encouraging, but I didn't care for the tailor's work. So depending on the level of alterations you're making to the dress, I'm sure it would be a different and more positive experience. From start to finish working with ASB was a lovely experience. My initial two fittings were painless. The stylist was very respectful, patient, and helped me push out of my comfort zone to find some beautiful gowns that really opened my eyes to what I could be comfortable wearing. I found what I knew was the perfect dress. Sadly the rack size was itty bitty, and so I ended up YOLO'ing to get the dress ordered with no time to spare if it didn't work out. They reached out to get some extra details to ensure the dress was most likely to fit (a lot of concerns around the bust area). When I came for my fitting, it was perfect. The ladies were all so meticulous and helpful and kind and respectful. The only alterations were the bustle (which I do find weird isn't just part of a dress) and some extra support in the bust. I came to And Something Blue for alterations on the recommendation of my bridal shop, and I'm so glad that they pointed me to Irina! Irina did a fantastic job on my dress, and I left her shop extremely happy. I had an A-line duchess satin wedding dress with straps and illusion underarms, skirt pleats, and one skirt slit (no lacing or beading). Irina was quick with the appointments but always listened to my concerns and provided suggestions that were really helpful. She altered my dress amazingly and did the following: - Took in the waist by ~2 inches - Took in arm straps - Took out the original bra cups and provided/sowed new cups on the outer lining (so it sat directly against my chest instead of inside the dress) - Added some secret stitching to the front pleat of my skirt so that the pleat was more pronounced (I expressed how I wanted it more pronounced but didn't think redoing the entire skirt was worth it, and she offered the idea and did a perfect job) - Bustle with hook and eye (so perfect, looked gorgeous, and was super easy/quick to do) Irina was blunt, honest, and friendly -- we had some great, random conversations at the register! Some people might find her directness as cold but I don't think that's her intention, she's just to-the-point and you have to feel comfortable expressing any of your concerns with her (which you should do with any tailor to ensure your satisfaction), and she always listened and addressed my questions, even after I thought I was done asking questions and came looking for her at the front of the store 5 minutes later (still in my dress). After the first appointment, she told me my homework was to get boob tape and wear it at our next appointment, which I made sure to do. At one of our appointments, I told her that I thought we maybe needed to mark a larger cut for the arm straps, and she told me that she was very confident it didn't need to be larger and to trust her -- and trust her I did, and she was right (I also trusted that she'd fix it if it wasn't short enough). I absolutely loved working with Helen and Irena at And Something Blue. First, they have an incredible selection of dresses. They offer so many styles, some of which are designed by Helen herself. And they make you feel so at ease trying on dresses- a process which would otherwise be overwhelming. Second, their in-house seamstresses are incredible. When I asked them to tailor the dress in a very specific way, all I had to do was show them a Pinterest photo and they executed it flawlessly. Third, they are true perfectionists. Horrible place and attitude. Echoing some of the other reviews, this place will ruin what's supposed to be a special experience. I walked in as a new client and asked the front desk for the tailor to ask if they do alterations if I were to purchase a wedding dress outside of their store, and asked for help confirming my measurements since I'm just started my dress search. It was likely the most condescending and rude interaction I've experienced from complete strangers. Stunned that they would treat a potential new client like this, maybe they don't need more customers. So the front desk woman gets the tailor, and the tailor walks out, who turns out to be Irina, and off the bat her attitude was as if I was and inconvenience. No "hello" or "how are you?" just a "what do you want" She's Russian so I was like, ok direct and gruff, whatever, so I asked her my question and she exasperatedly takes out her tape measure and measures me haphazardly across my bust and waist and scribbles on a piece of paper. Mind you, this took her 5 seconds, maybe 10 seconds tops. And then I ask her one more question about if they do alterations and approximately what to budget for. She glances at one of the display dresses and gives me a terse response, "about $300 and up." Ok, not very helpful but whatever, and then she says to me "that will be $40." She tried to CHARGE ME for our 5min interaction!!! I was immediately confused, asking what is she charging me for?? And she was like "ok, $30. you asked me to measure you and I provided a service, don't you think I should be paid?" I was briefly stunned by her accusation but then recovered and asked if this so-called service was listed on their website, especially since she arbitrarily changed the cost in the same conversation from $40 to $30, and then she got annoyed and abruptly snatched the paper with her scribbles of my measurements (bust/waist) back, as if it was going to be of any use to me. Anyways what a BIZARRE experience. The kicker is that I live in the neighborhood and go to the coffee shop across the street, so using a throwaway account. I thought about not posting but this happened a week ago and I'm still SEETHING from what an insane interaction and person she was to completely ruin someone's day for no reason whatesoever. Attention all Brides! Don't go anywhere else!!! I don't know what I would have done if I had not found Irina. Not only was the whole experience of alterations so stress-free, but multiple "edits" were made to my dress to make sure it was just right, and I even laughed throughout the process. Irina gave me all the tips and tricks of a truly talented tailor and her team was awesome, including Olga who helped with my dress. My dress had crazy puff sleeves that kept falling down, and she recommended a men's toupee tape to keep them up. I mean, how else would I ever have known this? She taught me to pick up the bustle, took the waist in and out as needed, reshaped the breast area to not fall down and made the length adjustments based on my shoes. She was also totally calm and hilarious throughout and I never felt like I was asking too much. I loved coming here, it was one of the most joyful parts of the planning process. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment. P.S. my dress wasn't even from this shop, although I kind of wish I had found their selection before I bought mine. This was my first ever bridal appointment. I came because they were doing an Amsale trunk show and I've always loved their dresses. However was disappointed that they didn't have a ton of different styles to choose from. That aside, I feel like the stylists did a great job of explaining things to me and selecting other gowns to try after I tried on the 3 Amsale dresses that I had my eye on. They also showed me options of customizing a top and bottom -- selecting the patterns, cloth and everything which was great to learn about because I don't think other boutiques I've been to do that. Only reason I'm not giving it full 5 stars: it seemed like inventory was low, the space was huge but I don't think there were a ton of different styles. They also had 3 people working at the time and all 3 people ended up gawking and commenting on me when I was trying dresses on, which felt a little unnecessary. The First Lady who helped me abandoned after I selected my initial dresses, didn't help me get into the dresses or explain I'd she would or wouldn't help and then I was passed off to a younger woman who was much more helpful. read more

The folks at And Something Blue made me feel so special and really listened to the kind of unique wedding dress I was looking for. I really loved the sequin work of Anna Campbell (but couldn't afford one of her dresses), so Helen helped me try on her design, the Bjork dress, and brought out one of the Anna Campbell sequin tops and BOOM, my dream dress was there! And the consecutive appointments for fitting and alterations were quick and productive --- they know what they are doing! But they also let me stay in the dressing room with my friend at each appointment as long as I wanted to allow each one to feel like a special time I got to share with my friend. They were helpful and communicative via email. They give great advice about undergarments and boob tape. The dress was reasonably priced ($3k after taxes, etc.) and beautiful - I got so many complements, and it had pockets! Such remarks in a vulnerable setting were unexpected and shaming. This incident highlighted the pervasive issue of body shaming in society, worsened by the relentless pursuit of physical perfection seen on social media. I refuse to succumb to unhealthy practices just to fit into a smaller dress size. A more considerate approach from Something Blue, such as discreetly discussing price variations and weight sensitivities, would have been appreciated.Something Blue has the opportunity to guide brides towards self-acceptance and away from damaging body shaming. Horrible place. They were great when I was interested in buying a dress. Once I bought the dress, their attitude changed. It was horrible. After the dress arrived, I had 3 appointments and was rushed through each alterations. They were not welcoming (very different vibe from the one they give you when you want to buy a dress). On the last alteration appointment they had me wait for 1 hour while they were supposed to fix the remaining issues on the dress. They did not want me to try the dress on after that. When I arrived home and tried it on, I realized they did not fix the remaining issues. A total rip off, they made me feel miserable during this entire process. For a $3000 dress + $600 alterations I was very disappointed to have picked this place. Stay away! read more

Helen Miller at And Something Blue was willing to do an absolutely stunning navy-and-white dress that went perfectly with our maritime theme. The dress was gorgeous, fit amazingly with minimal alterations, and was comfortable enough to wear all night. My cousin had an appointment at 12:15pm. Shes from out of town and we got really lucky to get the appointment the next day. We came 5 mins early and they were running a bit late and asked us if we could stand outside or go grab some coffee. When we were inside & started I was surprised that we were not able to touch any of the wedding dresses on the wall, we were only able to tell the lady which one "catches our eyes" I've shopped for wedding dresses with my other family members so it's odd not being able to touch the dress to help look through them with my cousin. The lady who helped my cousin was definitely new and didn't seem to know what she was doing. She did a horrible job measuring my cousin's body. There are a lot of nice dresses to try on, but the experience was worse than what I've seen from David's Bridal. Cute shop, but I would look somewhere else. A year after our COVID wedding, we finally had a small ceremony with just our family; the only problem was, I had gained weight and could no longer fit my dress! With only 2 weeks until our ceremony, I reached out to Irina. My daughter picked out a dress which was a new design and it arrived with the wrong material and wrong lace. They got a replacement just in time because she's moving overseas. She came in and she tried it on for alterations and there were a few things to fix. They had her in for the final fitting and it fit worse. They tried to adjust it that day and never resolved it. They simply had us take it out of the store saying there is nothing they could do! They made her sign something and walk away. She's in tears with what should be one of the happiest moments. We got a free veil but that doesn't possibly cover $3000 and rebuying a new dress! read more

I had a wonderful experience dress shopping at And Something Blue. When we got engaged in January we were so thrilled to have a 18+ month engagement so we could not stress. Then in March shelter-in-place happened and we immediately had to kick our planning process into high gear as all the 2020 weddings moved to 2021. I am also not the easiest person to please, as a designer myself I am extremely opinionated and choosy about how I envision the bridal look. Many stores carry lots of lace and sequins, lots of tulle and layers, or trendy boho styles. I was looking for something simple, clean, minimal, and elegant. Irina was absolutely wonderful and had selected dresses in advance, and also let me select dresses I thought might be a good fit. The only reason I am giving And Something Blue a 4 instead of a 5 is due to the limited amount minimal dresses. The service and experience was definitely a 5. And Something Blue made dress shopping safe and fun. I felt relieved with how much time and attention they made in cleaning the store between appointments, and that everyone was required to wear their masks the entire time. I was so excited to try on dresses for the first time and chose "And Something Blue" because of the great reviews and location in presidio heights. Unfortunately, this was not a great experience for myself and the two friends I brought with me. We felt rushed through the appointment, were in a room that felt like a closet with lighting and colors that did not compliment the dresses. Besides the 7 dresses I picked out, my stylist did not bring me anything special to try on and my friend had to ask for a veil for me to try on. I got my Galia Lahav wedding dress in LA and while they strongly recommended alterations in-house, I didn't want to have to spend the time and money traveling back and forth for alterations appointments. I was so nervous about finding a place that would do a good job with such a detailed dress - And Something Blue was AMAZING. I went in only once to try on the dress, then came back a month later and it was PERFECT. I had a unique train that they had no problem creating a bustle for, they loosened the beaded straps beautifully, and hemmed it perfectly to my height. Not only is she incredibly talented but she exudes a sense of calm, making you feel like everything is going to be just perfect. I looked all over the Bay Area and finally found my dress at And Something Blue. Their gowns are high-quality and beautiful. Irena and Helen are extremely knowledgeable. They tell it to you straight and make sure you look your best. They are very straightforward and reliable. I always interacted with one of them, and appreciated that I was not tossed around to random salespeople, which I have seen happen to my friends at other stories. When unforeseeable circumstances forced me to push back my wedding, which meant I didn't wear my dress until 29 months after I'd bought it, Irena worked with me to make sure I still felt comfortable in the dress. Do NOT order your bridesmaid dresses from And Something Blue. And Something Blue has a good selection of bridesmaid dresses, and because the owner Lisa was so friendly and helpful, I had my bridesmaids order their dresses from here. Since our first visit to the shop, our experience has been painfully unpleasant: 1. They are rude. I scheduled a second visit so my bridesmaids could try on dresses I preselected and get measured. 15 minutes into our hour long appointment, Tiarra was already rushing us out. This was especially upsetting since appointments are limited and not easy to schedule. 2. They are difficult to reach. I received an email that the dresses were ready to pick up. I left messages on their voice mail over the course of a week. The shop is open by appointment only, but since no one was returning any of my phone calls, I decided to swing by the store during their open hours. There was no one there. 3. Did I already mention that customer service is nonexistent? We finally received the dresses, but they did not fit at all! A size 6 was about two sizes too big for my bridesmaid with DDs, yet a size 2 was too small for my slender bridesmaid who erred on the side of too big. The shop essentially told us that it was no longer their problem because all sales were final. These dresses were not cheap. On the positive side, my engaged bridesmaid now knows to go elsewhere. read more
