Let me start off with, it's my fault for not asking the price before hiring them for this job,…read morehowever, I have done a lot of business with Best 1 over the last 20 yrs or so in servicing my home and my rentals and they have always charged by time and materials and been very reasonable.  Recently, I had a hot water heater changed out in my home.  To my surprise the bill came and it was billed as a lump sum of $1984. I was shocked to say the least.  This was for a 40 gal, 6yr warranty, reg gas water heater.  They can be found anywhere for under $575.  If you add in $100 for a couple of extra parts  and allow $100 for disposal of the old water heater (which is very generous) you have a total cost of $775. They arrived at 3 pm and left for 45 mins to go get the water heater from the shop, and were done at 5:00  ( 2 men). That is 1.25 hours working time. Allowing for the .75 hrs  to run to the shop (they should have had the water heater along) that's 2 hrs x 2 for a total of 4. 1209 divided by 4 is over 300 an hr.  Buyer beware...I have since gotten 3 other estimates, all under $1500.

When Trevor arrived I showed him the most pressing issues that concerned us, but while he was here, he took a peek around and found issues that I knew we had, but had forgotten needed attention. He hung light fixtures, created a new outlet for us in a difficult area in our basement, fixed bad wiring and bad outlets and installed some needed GFCI outlets. He was easy to have in the house, very knowledgable, and very easy to communicate with. I was very pleased with the work that he did for us. I would not hesitate to recommend them in the future.
