BE AWARE!!!! ZERO STARS!!! I am sharing my experience because I believe the public deserves to know how I was treated at this pharmacy, particularly customers who rely on Medicare and Medi-Cal. When I initially contacted this pharmacy, I was never informed that they would not be willing to provide the brand-name medication prescribed to me and would instead only provide the generic version. Had I been told this upfront, I could have made an informed decision and chosen a different pharmacy. Unfortunately, I did not learn about this limitation until after I had already chosen this pharmacy and transferred my prescriptions. I eventually spoke directly with the owner of the pharmacy about the situation. During our conversation, he explained to me that if he ordered the brand-name medication for me, he would lose money. He also told me that he would love to keep me as a customer forever, but that continuing to order my brand-name prescriptions would result in him losing money. I found this extremely concerning and upsetting. As a customer, my expectation was to be treated with honesty, professionalism, and respect--not made to feel as though the medication I was prescribed was a financial burden because of my insurance coverage. The way this conversation was handled left me feeling dismissed, embarrassed, and humiliated. Rather than feeling like a valued customer, I felt that the pharmacy's financial considerations were being placed ahead of my needs. I have Medicare and Medi-Cal, and this experience has made me seriously question whether customers with these types of insurance are being treated differently because of their coverage. I cannot speak for every customer or determine the owner's intentions, but based on my personal experience and what was communicated to me, I felt that my insurance and the financial considerations associated with it played a significant role in the treatment I received. That is why I feel it is important for other customers to know about my experience. Customers with Medicare and Medi-Cal deserve the same dignity, transparency, courtesy, and respect as anyone else. If a pharmacy is unable or unwilling to provide certain medications because doing so is financially disadvantageous to the pharmacy, customers should be told that before transferring their prescriptions. No customer should have to transfer their prescriptions first and then discover that the pharmacy is unwilling to provide the medication they need. Before choosing this pharmacy, I strongly recommend asking very specific questions, especially if you have Medicare, Medi-Cal, or other insurance coverage: * Will you fill my specific medication? * Will you provide the brand-name medication if my doctor prescribes it? * Are there medications you will not order because of cost or reimbursement? * Are there restrictions based on my insurance that I should know about before transferring my prescriptions? I am posting this review so that others can make an informed decision before placing their prescriptions and their trust in this pharmacy. I also need to add that they need to emphasize health and cleanliness with their counter staff. One young woman has worn the same pullover sweater all winter, and I've watched it get progressively dirtier and dirtier. It was black and white and now it's brown and black. She also doesn't bathe regularly, and when I went in recently, the whole store reeked. She's a lovely girl but clearly has issues. Any health facility-including a pharmacy-should focus on cleanliness. They also don't charge my insurance and I have to tell them every time. They want me to pay full price. I'll give it one last month but then after 30 years, I'm going to have no choice but to transfer everything to CVS. read more

Transfer of prescription from RITE AID-they keep telling me to come back instead of taking care of me. "I wasn't here yesterday and don't know what you need" is not an answer someone who needs their meds want to hear. 3rd time is not a charm. I was looking for something specific I gave them a call and the lady that answered the phone was amazingly helpful and when I got there she acknowledged me as soon as I walked in and helped me from start to finish I definitely recommend trying them and looking around they have a lot of neat stuff. read more

Anderson Bros drug store as been in Arcade as long as my family has been here, a bit over 50 years. In that time Ihave used it once about 45 years ago and chose to use other drug store since. Today, with out my wife to help me, she gone on vacation and I cant drive,I called them to get some Fixodent. The phone call was of pour quality but I thought that I got throught. After waiting an hour and half Icalled to check and leared that nothing had been done...They were waiting to confiirm my adress that I had told the clurk at least 3 times and what were the crose streets The reling clerk asked "Who told you ten thirty?" I explained that I thought that 1and 1/2 hours wait seemed reasonable. I just want to say how impressed I was today to meet the owner of Anderson brothers pharmacy. He was putting out flyers, letting people know that his pharmacy existed and that as other pharmacies closed his was remaining open. I definitely am changing and it's all because honestly, he was so friendly and it's also locally owned which I like in this day and age of so many people and stores going out of business. Just stopped in and picked up some last minute gifts. Amazing selection. Another patron and I said to each other - we're gonna need to do looking it we'll buy up the whole store. Is not just a pharmacy- great card selection, one of a kind gifts and the prices are great. When I checked out they even offered me some gift boxes and took the sticker prices off for me!!! Drove from my all day meeting trying to get sudaphed during a break to ease the pain of my sinus headache. Cute little store, but to my surprise they said they no longer carried sudaphed even for patients with a rx. This was my only break for the day and this meant I needed to go back to my meeting with a massive sinus headache. Boo. read more

I've used Anderson Bros. for a few years and the last couple of years they've definitely gone downhill. One incident comes to mind when the pharmacist switched my medication and didn't bother to tell me. They put a little red sticky note on the bottle, but I just didn't notice it. When I called to tell them that I had gotten the wrong medication, I was told it was not the wrong one, it was just switched (I don't recall the reason). I complained that no one told me my meds were being switched, and the pharmacist was extremely rude and basically said it was my fault that I didn't notice and that he didn't HAVE to tell me because he'd put the note on the bottle. I almost quit them then, but decided that since I'd been going there for so long, it was just an isolated incident. The next problem came when they didn't have on hand a medication that I need to take just once a year for a procedure. I was told they were unable (unwilling?) to get it from anywhere. Interestingly enough, Raley's pharmacy DID have it, and they don't seem to have a problem getting it, since I just ordered it again for my annual procedure. The next issue came when my doctor put me on a new medication. Anderson Bros. doesn't carry THAT medication either, and can't get it. (I don't understand why they can't get something that other pharmacies can.) Anyway, Raleys, again, DID have it, and they carry it regularly. Today I went in to Anderson Bros. to pick up two prescriptions. I specifically told the guy behind the counter that I had TWO prescriptions. When I got home, there was only one in the bag. When I called to find out about the other one, I was told the manufacturer isn't making it anymore and that they will contact my doctor to find out what she wants to do. I asked why no one bothered to tell ME, the customer, that they couldn't get my prescription, especially since I had called it in 3 days ago and it's one I need to take daily. She apologized and offered to sell me the 7 they had left. Fortunately, Raley's does still have some in stock. In addition to the above, what concerns me is the amount of chit-chat and socializing that I hear going on in the back room where they are, supposedly, filling prescriptions. I may be old-school, but I prefer the people who are preparing MY medications for MY health to be paying attention to what they're doing! Needless to say, I will be switching all of my meds from Anderson Bros. I've liked them in the past because they seemed to have a more personal touch (small neighborhood pharmacy and all that). But they have lost something. Also, there seems to be a lot of turnover - seems that every time I go in there, there's a new person behind the counter. They DO, however have a very good selection of gift items, so I will probably continue to shop there for those kinds of things. But for medications? I think not! read more

I have been going to Anderson Bros for my whole life. They always have my prescriptions ready when they say they are and usually the same day I call them in. When I walk in and want to wait, usually doesn't take more than 20 minutes. Definitely something that Walgreen's, Rite Aid and CVS has never done for me. When they have any issue with stock, insurance or anything else they call me and fix the problem quickly. The only issue that I have ever had is with the newer staff members. They are not the friendliest. Sometimes I feel they do not listen to me completely and I actually prefer to either speak with the pharmacist or I believe her name is Kathy. Kathy is amazing. She knows my name when sees me. Knows how many prescription I get and can tell right off the bat if something is wrong with them. I prefer to visit Anderson Bros over any pharmacy, even with the new pharmacy desk people. When I have gone to Rite Aid, CVS, and Walgreen's when Anderson Bros has been closed, it took hours to get the medication if not days. read more

Anderson Brothers Pharmacy aka Leader Pharmacy is in the Town and Country Plaza -- its around the corner from the Trader Joes. This pharmacy is a compounding pharmacy -- meaning that they will mix custom medications. Not many pharmacies do this anymore. My fertility clinic uses them exclusively when their Sacramento patients need certain medication. I had to go their to pick up progesterone suppositories because these need to be custom mixed apparently. Most of the pharmacy is your typical drugstore. I'm not sure how many people buy their non-prescription stock though. I picked up a box of ovulation predictor kits and the expiration date was over a year old. Why would they not do a stock check more often? I don't think this is excusable. The pharmacy counter is small and in the back. This is NOT the pharmacy to go to if you require confidentiality of any level. Medications are stacked on top of an open case right behind the counter. Someone with good eyesight could easily read the labels while waiting. I told the woman helping me that my clinic had ordered a medication for me. She looked in the computer and shouted across to me -- "you're here for the suppositories correct?". Ummm, yeah. Thanks for telling everyone else waiting that I'm gonna be sticking something up my something. When my Rx was ready, she asked if I wanted a pharmacist consult. There is no seperate space to do this. Other pharmacies at least set aside some space with a partition to do this -- its something towards creating a feeling of confidentiality. But at Anderson Bros -- its old skool. If you can't ask the pharmacist about how to stick a suppository in your hootie hoo in front of the geriatrics waiting for their Medi-Cal drugs, you'll have to figure it out on your own. God forbid you have to go there for emergency contraception, viagra, or HIV medications. Be forewarned -- you'll be explaining your need in front of all and sundry present that day (or worse, they might do it for you) . read more

Ordered a prescription refill, got the robo-call that it was ready, got to the store at 6:30, stood around and waited and waited while the pharmacist spent way too long with a customer who was trying to get pain medication before it was time ( and the pharmacy tech kept telling him over and over again NO!) Then when I should have been able to get my prescription (they were waiting for him to sign off on it) he got on the computer to place his order for meds for the next day. He had the gall to say if you come in at 6:30 at the end of the day you just have to wait.. I said REALLY? I am pretty sure if you are open until 7 then that is customer time, not paperwork time. Yesterday I drove my neighbor to pick up her prescriptions and experienced Anderson Bros Pharmacy for the first time! What a fantastic pharmacy and what great gift items, various sundries and Hallmark Cards as well. Well, I can't think of a reason to stay with my current pharmacy and not switch to Anderson Bros? My current has always been good, but this place was great! Plus I purchased a gift and they offer free gift wrapping, and I hate wrapping gifts. As you can see from my other "YELPS", I only post positive reviews based on my personal experience with a business. I've had very good service and have been coming here for many years. Yes, the over the counter items are definitely pricey, but that's because they are a small family owned business, no where near as big as Ride Aid or CVS. Three of the regular women behind the counter always remember my name. They have a little bit of turnover with the Pharmacy Techs because they have students who fulfill their internship there. I have had a couple not very friendly ones, but they don't ever seem to be there very long. The store carries adorable gift items and greeting cards. There is usually something to be found for that hard to shop for person. I recommend this pharmacy :) read more

I have never been into the Pharmacy, and can not speak for the med mix ups and now I wonder if I need to be more vigilant about the meds being delivered, but I do get to deal with their billing department more than I care to. I pay all the bills to them for our family and never once have I missed a payment or been late however now for the 3rd time this year they are behind for some reason in processing and are sending past due statements. The last 2 times I called the billing person was on vacation and the fill in person was of no help. It does not sit well with me to get past due statements when they want to collect apr 18% on unpaid balances. Will be checking into other pharmacies as I do not like the extra hassle I am having with them. read more

I would vote NO stars for this Anderson Bros pharmacy in Town and Country village on Fulton. My daughter's case worker told me this was a good pharmacy for people with disabilities on a lot of prescriptions. I transferred her prescriptions there from walmart. I told them we needed the meds in 3 days. I called on Friday evening to confirm that I would pick them up on Saturday. First, I was told they weren't ready, next I was told there were no refills(not true), finally I was told the prescriptions were going to cause Anderson Bros to take a loss. As far as I know, no pharmacy has ever said that. My daughters seizures are not controlled and I was filled with anxiety. I asked what I should do. The woman staff said "I don't know." "Can you send them back to wal mart?" I asked. " You'll have to call walmart,"she said. I called walmart and was informed that 4 of these medications were controlled substances and could only be transferred once and I had already tranferred them to Anderson bros. I called back Anderson Bros. and pleaded with the staff to fill them. The same staff told me that walmart was wrong. She said she would call walmart and call me back. It was almost closing and she never called so I called her. I was told they were on the phone with walmart and would call me back . The pharmacy closed and they never called. I called walmart. Turns out Anderson bros. had never called them. I was so angy and upset after being the recipient of such cavalier, irresponsible behavior and straight out lying by AndersonBros. staff that I just started shaking. It turns out walmart was right about the one time transfer of controlled substances. I ended up having to call Stanford Hospital that night to the neurology resident on call to get my daughters prescritions called into walmart. Originally, I left walmart hoping for someplace smaller and more personal. Now I'm staying with them because their pharmacist understood how scared I was that my daughter would be without the medications that keep her from screaming in terror when a seizure starts, turning blue and becoming unconscious. I called Anderson Bros the next day and spoke to the pharmacist who was on duty . It was not Steve Anderson, the owner. I never heard from him. I asked the pharmacist about the idea that they would not fill prescriptions because they were taking a loss. He said they could lose $10 to $20. Thanks a lot Anderson Bros! Don't you think I would have preferred a chance to pay the difference? And why didn't you tell me there was a problem 2 days earlier. SHAME ON YOU! read more

I really have had only excellent experiences with this pharmacy, and I've been coming here for over 20 years. They care about me personally, and they always have my medicine ready on time. They deliver my meds in fact, when I'm unable to get out because of back pain. I experienced just the opposite of what is described, my medication was talked about with me in a very low tone of voice in a private section where others could not overhear the pharmacist or me. They are top-notch on their knowledge too. I'm sorry if others had bad experiences, but I've been coming here a long time, and refer all my friends to this store, and they've all been very happy too. Thank you Steve and everyone else. I should add that I have 2 residences, 1 in Sacramento, and 1 in Woodinville, WA when I'm visiting my children. But my main address is Sacramento, and this is definitely the best pharmacy that I have ever been to!! I can't find anything like this in Washington, and truly miss it when I'm out of town. We have been Anderson Bros. customers for many years, and they have always been friendly, gracious, incredibly helpful, and very professional. They learn names quickly, and employ them whenever we visit. I cannot say enough about how they have helped us not only always have our special needs daughter's medications; but also work closely with my parents, and as they no longer drive, Anderson's delivers - it's been a godsend. Great pharmacy,great personal touch.They carry my med that is very hard to find and at the cheapest prices in town.Lost my wallet once and one of the pharmacy techs helped me out trying to find it.Outside of the pharmacy however,there's not much to look at as much of their OTC meds/products are ridiculously expensive but I guess that's what you get when you go to a small non-corporate (using the term loosely) pharmacy. Also for the ppl complaining that Anderson's didn't carry their med, they are more of a speciality pharmacy,they definitely have a ton of pain meds,as i can attest to and also have a lot of very specific meds at great prices,so you give and you take when this pharmacy doesn't have your particular XR version of Requip or whatever is missing. read more
